But behind the polished branding and calls for civility lies a different story. In this video, we pull back the curtain on the real behavior coming from the frontman of Rethinking Hell. From calling arguments "stupid," to accusing fellow believers of slander, blocking anyone who dares to disagree, and even shouting on camera — the contrast between message and method is too loud to ignore. This isn't about theology. This is about integrity.

The topics of predestination and free will have been debated for centuries. On this week's episode, we'll hear from individuals with varying opinions on these complex topics. Bible scholar, writer, and podcaster, Chris Date believes in the theology of Calvinism (term often used synonymously for predestination) and sees one's salvation as something that God predetermined and that only individuals whom God chose will live with him for eternity. Chris and Joey Svendsen are joined by Pastor Chip Judd to discuss this belief. Chris and Chip also share sharp opinions on whether a person's actions or choices are authored by God and if he controls the outcome. At top of the episode, Tomelex Copeland, Roy Jacques, Lynne Stroy and Joey have their own discussion on predestination and they revisit a conversation from an earlier episode and assess whether it's possible for a person to remain quiet in a stressful, high pressure situation.Stay ConnectedWebsite | Facebook Discussion Page  In this episodeChris Date / Facebook / Website Chip Judd / Instagram / PodcastRoy Jacques, host / FacebookTomelex Copeland, host / FacebookLynne Stroy, host / InstagramJoey Svendsen, host / InstagramExecutive Producer: Josh SurrattProducer/Editor: Joey SvendsenSound Engineer/Editor: JT PriceSound Engineer: Katelyn VandiverMusic, including theme song: Joel T. This episode dives into the debate between the annihilationist view (also known as 'conditional immortality') and the traditional 'eternal conscious torment' perspective on hell that has been highlighted among scholars for years. Dr. Al Mohler, Former President of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, strongly opposes the annihilationist view, a stance he elaborated on in his daily podcast, The Briefing. On the other side we have Chris Date, a co-founder of Rethinking Hell, who argues in favour of the annihilationist perspective, a belief he adopted after extensive biblical study. The debate delves into scriptural interpretations and examines whether academic scholarship is actually shifting away from the traditional view of eternal torment in favour of an end of all ends. In this episode, Brian and Chad interview Chris Date about his view on conditional immortality, which is the idea that the final punishment of the wicked is death and total destruction rather than eternal conscious torment. Chris provides an overview of the two contrasting views and shares his journey of how he became convinced of annihilationism after originally believing in eternal conscious torment. He then dives into key biblical texts that are often used to argue for eternal torment, such as Mark 9:48, Matthew 25:46, Revelation 14:9-11, and Jude 7, demonstrating how these passages can actually better support conditionalism. Chris also makes a concise case for his view by looking at biblical evidence on immortality, the vision of eternity, substitutionary atonement, and the fate of the wicked described as death and destruction. For more resources from Chris on this topic, check out the Rethinking Hell website www.rethinkinghell.com and YouTube channelhttps://www.youtube.com/@RethinkingHellas well as Chris' personal website at https://chrisdate.info While Chris hopes listeners will consider his perspective, his ultimate desire is for unity in the body of Christ despite differences on this non-essential doctrine.================================We appreciate your feedback. If you're on TWITTER, you can follow Chad @TBapologetics.You can follow Brian @TheBrianAutenAnd of course, you can follow @Apologetics315If you have a question or comment for the podcast, record it and send it our way using www.speakpipe.com/Apologetics315 or you can email us at podcast@apologetics315.com

Hell is likely the least favorite topic of most Christians. It's often times considered one of the hardest doctrines to swallow. The idea of an eternity of misery separated from God seems horrendous, so it's no wonder we often like to avoid it. But there is a certain segment of Christians who believe we have gotten Hell wrong. In fact, they think the Bible portrays a very different image of Hell. Hell, they argue, isn't a place of unending suffering but simply nonexistence. In other words, the fate of the unredeemed is less like Dante's Inferno and more like just ceasing to exist altogether. Here to defend this view from a Biblical standpoint is Chris Date, one of the foremost defenders of the view often called Annihilationism.

The Seacoast Podcast: Things You Won't Hear On Sunday

Most of us were taught in Sunday school that the future destiny awaiting all who reject Jesus is an existence in some form of eternal death.  Some believe in the literal flames of hell and others utter darkness, but most all agree given the tortuous state with full consciousness, it's not a place one wants to find him or herself in.  Our guest Chris Date agrees there is an eternal death.  However, he takes the word “death” to mean a literal death.   Never conscious again, one is dead forever, this view greatly different from the traditional view of living forever in torment.   Chris and many others are fully convinced this "annihilationist view" is backed by an accurate reading of scripture while many Christians label it heresy. At the top of the episode, Jack talks through some church history.  From Constantine to the Roman Empire and the nature of Christian persecution at the time, Jack indulges us in a historical depiction of that time when being a “Christ follower” was a very new concept, the faith just born.  Stay ConnectedWebsite | Facebook Discussion Page  In this episodeChris Date / Web / Rethinking Hell Podcast His books on the subject: Rethinking Hell / A Consuming Passion Joey Svendsen, host / InstagramLynne Stroy, host / Instagram Jack Hoey, host / Instagram Executive Producer: Josh SurrattProducer/Editor: Joey SvendsenSound Engineer/Editor: JT PriceSound Engineer: Katelyn VandiverMusic, including theme song: Joel T. The full debate was hosted by Cameron Bertuzzi and can be found on his channel at the link below. I bookend my debate responses with some personal thoughts on why I find annihilationism unconvincing, at least at this point in time.* *For example, consider the following retributive dilemma that I did not fully discuss in the episode. It takes the form of a brief imaginary dialogue: Is it right that Hitler just be quietly annihilated, suffering the same fate as some petty criminal? "No, he has to be tortured some amount beforehand." Is there any amount he can be tortured that would be enough? If yes, why not let him go after he has "paid the last penny"? "There is no amount of torture that would be enough." If there's no amount that would be enough, then why even try? Why only torture him some random amount? More pressingly, why not torture him for literally ever, if you admit that no amount of torture would ever be enough? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pbg4w4FPVIc&t=2396s

As Michael Enyart has pointed out, "If sharing your position is a good argument against your position... your position is probably bad." Heads up! - We've got another Open Theism debate coming up this Friday, June 10th at 5 pm (Mountain time). Will Duffy Vs. Chris Date on the Explore Christianity YouTube channel. "Does Open Theism Best Explain the Biblical data?" Calvinists we debate say that they trust God's decrees, but that they could not trust God Himself, if God were free. This was overtly exposed again in this weekend's debate between Calvinist theologian Matt Slick, founder of CARM.org, and Will Duffy, founder of OpenTheism.org. Bob Enyart airs Mr. Duffy's opening statement and then goes to the YouTube channel youtu.be/user/BobEnyartLive to respond to a commenter, Mirabilis, about the claim of Open Theism that God is free and has an actual free will, and that therefore the Father loves the Son freely, not by any compulsion or inevitability, but because He chooses to love the Son. Also, the Son loves the Father, and the Holy Spirit, freely. Of course! Today's Resource: Predestination & Free Will Debate Bob Enyart vs. Brian Schwertly Can God change? Does He change? Has God pre-planned all events? Is your life following a complete script, written before you were born? Has it been decided in advance which, if any, of your children will go to heaven or hell?

Our friend and colleague, Chris Date, recently produced a video calling Drs. Please watch Date's original broadcast in its entirety here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K9YnQNEMUU8&t=126s The portion of the statement in question (as represented here by the LBC of 1689, chapter 9, paragraphs 1&2) state: "God has endued the will of man with that natural liberty and power of acting upon choice, that it is neither forced nor by any necessity of nature determined to do good or evil. Man, in his state of innocency, had freedom and power to will and to do that which was good and well-pleasing to God,2 but yet was unstable, so that he might fall from it." While I (Joey) personally find very primitive and archaic the belief in a God-ordained predestination of souls, Chris Date's holding to this position  doesn't lessen the amount of respect I have for him as a biblical scholar.  Chip, Chris and I discuss and debate the philosophical components of whether people can have real choice while at the same time, God also ordaining that choice they will freely make.  In other words, can God ordain that people have real choice while also ordaining what choice they will make?  Chris thinks so.  We have plenty of “if I treated my kids the way God does” analogies, talk a bit about whether Jack and Jill had real choice to go up the hill if the author writes it (you'll have to listen) and even ponder marital affairs being “God ordained.”  Chris Date and Rethinking Hellhttp://www.theopologetics.com/http://www.youtube.com/theopologetics/https://fuller.academia.edu/ChristopherDatehttp://www.rethinkinghell.com/http://www.youtube.com/rethinkinghell/Chip Judd's "8-Minute Mind Shift"https://chipjudd.com/category/mindshiftJoey/PWNA Instagram:  www.instagram.com/joeysvendsenCurrent DonorSee: https://donorsee.com/pwnahelpsGet notifications each time we start raising money to get more information on our current opportunity to “save the day” for team humanity. Your true calling is found where your passions and your gifts collide. It's a great feeling to know what God has called you to, but what happens during the period of time where it's not quite time to quit your day job? How can we reconcile this deep, spiritual knowledge with practical wisdom? Here to talk about calling, theology, passions, and ordinary acts of obedience are Chris Date. By day, Chris is a software designer. His true passion is writing about and teaching on theology, specifically the concept of Hell and conditional immortality. If that sounds a bit heavy, hang in there. Chris has a lot of important ideas to share you do not want to miss.    Chris Date is an Evangelical author whose work has been published in the New York Times and National Geographic, among many others. When he's not designing software, Chris can be found studying for his Masters at seminary or spending time with his wife and four sons. Theology truly is his passion, and, Lord Willing, he is going to become a teacher and writer on the subject full-time. In the meantime, Chris is staying faithful to God by providing for his family with his software design job.    In today's episode, we get a little deep into some of the tougher topics of apologetics and the afterlife. What is so great about Chris is that he explains everything in a manner that is simple to understand. Above all else, he is bound by the authority of Scripture as God's Word, so you know what he is saying is sound. If you are interested in taking a deep dive into some powerful Scripture today, Chris is the man for you!  Show Highlights:   Chris shares all about his life, his passion, and his family.  Chris shares his testimony about his overnight transformation from atheist to born-again believer.   The inspirational quote and guiding faith from Acts 17:11. Chris is a young earth creationist, and even with his conservative views, he encourages a diversity of views and unity within the church.  Weighing in on “hanging out” with those with different views on the Trinity.  The Biblical picture of our eternal destiny.  Why Chris became passionate about education and pursuing a place in academia.  We need people to help us understand Scripture, so I am thankful for guys like Chris!  The upcoming Rethinking Hell Conference sounds like it is going to be amazing.  Was Hell even created for humans?  The advice Chris would give his past self.   Resources: Rethinking Hell  The Pastor-Theologian
