The goal is to build a 600HP LBZ with 10K that meets a bunch of goals like driveability, completeness, reliability, towing, and potential for long-term dependability. There may be a few other things tossed into the judging mix - but you get the idea. Paul Wilson goes head-to-head with Wehrli Custom Fab's Tyler Franzen (aka Tranny). The so-called judge in this orgy of f-bombs, disputes, and other rowdy behavior is none other than Chris Ehmke. Tighten the seat-belt for this one! Charlie Keeter joins Paul Wilson and Chris Ehmke for a rip-roaring good time with the two-time Diesel Power Challenge winner. How did he do it with a Ford 6.0? No doubt it takes skill to win the challenge two years in a row - but some of it was just dumb luck.
The lift pump is probably one of the most important bolt-ons you can get for your diesel truck. Lift pumps help the CP3 maintain fuel pressure, remove impurities, and seem to add life to the high-pressure side of the fuel system. The manufacturers say lift pumps improve mileage through anecdotal claims, mostly. So what are the other benefits of lift pumps? Hosts Danny Voss and Chris Ehmke talk in great detail about the lift pump and explain why it should be your first bolt-on. They talk about the two top manufacturers - Air Dog and Fass - and explain the important of filling out and sending in the damn warranty card.
The dead pedal on a new diesel can be frustrating, especially if the owner has driven a diesel with a tuned, responsive throttle. In this episode, Nick Priegnitz and Chris Ehmke continue their conversation about the dead pedal - but this time focusing on how to fix it. Instead of deleting the emissions equipment (like some suggest) they say the best solution is to tune the truck. Both Nick and Chris explain why. The Diesel Performance Podcast celebrates 100,000 downloads! When we launched the podcast back in November 2015 we had no idea what to expect. All we knew was that diesel enthusiasts have a real passion for the performance aftermarket. Sure enough, the podcast found an audience. Thank you for listening. We hope you enjoy our celebration episode, which contains a few surprises: We analyze Danny's one-liners, Chris Ehmke's laugh, and Paul's inability to admit he has made a mistake. And the producer, Rich Kuenneke joins the team to talk about the past, present and future of the Diesel Performance Podcast.
Nick Priegnitz and Chris Ehmke dissect the dead pedal problem found in newer trucks. What exactly is a dead pedal? It's an unresponsive throttle that really throws new truck owners for a loop - especially if they're a previous owner of a tuned truck. Nick and Chris explain the problem and what causes it. This is the first part of a two-part series. The two guys solve the problem in the next episode on the topic.
Diesel Performance Podcast host Nick Priegnitz welcomes Chris Ehmke of Calibrated Power Solutions and Duramaxtuner.com to talk about drop-in turbochargers. What's the difference between drop-in turbochargers when compared to those that require a pedestal, oil lines, and various other components? As Nick and Chris discuss, the manufacturers had a good reason to use the size of charger they did and it relates to driveability, ease of installation, and common sense. But everyone has to experience the blast-off from a big charger, right?
Jon Flament's '06 Cummins hit 11 seconds - but is destined to shave another second - at least that's what Jon wants to do - go fast, real fast. In this episode of the Diesel Performance Podcast, Chris Ehmke talks with Jon about his build and future plans for his truck.
Paul and Danny welcome Chuck Dilly to the podcast to talk about his fully built Duramax. DPP guest and diesel expert Chris Ehmke joins the conversation about Chuck's amazing 900 horsepower monster he drives every day in any weather. The guys tackle the important issue of what to do if your truck fails after a major build. Some give up and go home - but not Chuck! The crew also talks about the importance of setting goals for a truck build - figuring out exactly how much horsepower you want. This is a rowdy, explicit conversation worth every minute of your time.
Chris Ehmke of Calibrated Power describes each generation of Cummins engine and explains the differences between them and what you need to make power. The various recipes require a level of knowledge not obvious because the generations of Cummins diesel engines date from the early 1990s to 2016. Chris goes through every generation and gives us a good reason why owners say they drive a Cummins instead of a Dodge.
