It has begun! The Filmlosophers and Intern Amy begin their annual journey into celebrating one of the most beautiful forms of cinema: anime! They kick off the festivities with a look at one of the incredible works of the late Akira Toriyama, 2013's Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods.
Royalty runs in the bloodline this episode. Only the mightiest can take the stage for this Dragon Call. We've had numerous queens join the show, but never a prince. A voice that many 90s babies heard in the morning as they ate their cereal on a Saturday morning or packing their backpack for the bus stop. The accolades speak for themselves; the resume is so lengthy it would turn this episode description into a CVS receipt. We ask that the Dragon Ball 4 Lifers summon ALL of their MIGHT and tap into this episode, as it is a very special one. The Prince of all Saiyans answers today's Dragon Call – Mr. Christopher Sabat himself! So when you listen to Seth and Robert you know you're gettin' that good good.Trunks spars off against Black, even more exposition about the Black/ Zamasu relationship, and our boi Piccolo comes up with the idea of the saga (MPV candidate) but Goku says he'd rather learn from Master Roshi!? The manga shows Goku Black as a Super Saiyan in between base and Rose, did you know that? Now you do. Vegeta wrecks the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, again! Yajirobi just keeps showing up to save the day so Trunks can fist Black after the old gay couple (B&Z) have more tea before Mai snipes em... to no avail (Confusing?! ... that's how these episodes feel). On this week's episode, Alex and Catherine chat about test tube babies.Brandon took a rare vacation this week, so Alex was forced to find a replacement in his stead. Fortunately, his sister, Catherine, was in town and picked up the slack. After discussing the weather, moving, and birthdays, Catherine chooses this week's subject for the ABC's of Geekdom segment, and chooses a prisoner you don't want to mess with. After that, they move on to the corrections segment, including Legion of Collectors, Game of Thrones, Lou Ferrigno, Sub Zero, Christopher Sabat, Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite, Cuphead, Kingdom Hearts III, Clonetroopers, Detroit: Become Human, Kirby, Metroid, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, and the Nemesis. Then, since it's still early in the show, they cover a bit of news, including some Dark Phoenix movie announcements, Julian Dennison cast in Deadpool 2, Michael Beach cast in Aquaman, a title and release date for the Jurassic World sequel, and Ron Howard replacing Chris Miller and Phil Lord as the director of the Han Solo movie. After the break, they give their thoughts on some trailers, including Atomic Blonde, The Foreigner, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Pitch Perfect 3, A Bad Moms Christmas, Death Note, Inhumans, Forces of Destiny, Netflix interactive shows, and the LEGO Ninjago Movie Video Game. Then they hop back to the news, including a reboot of the Saw franchise, Carnage confirmed for the Venom movie, a new Watchmen series coming to HBO, a reboot of the Fantastic Four franchise, enemies confirmed for Godzilla: King of the Monsters, future release dates for Fox Marvel movies, the passing of Michael Nyqvist, and Jake Busey's role in The Predator. After that, they give some Hot Takes, including You Get Me, Schindler's List, Sense8, Flaked, the Arrowverse crossover, Orange is the New Black, Moana, 30 Rock, and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Then, because Catherine is a baby, they skip a feature topic this week and go straight into the Fan Fic Fight, this time waging war between two masters of the sea.Last but not least, this is your final reminder to watch John Wick: Chapter 2 and tell us what you thought before we discuss it next week.
