The power of manifesting something into reality might seem… well, a bit silly at times. It's all over social media, for better or for worse. It can seem silly because we all know it's not as simple as saying it out loud, or creating a Pinterest board. Getting what you want, reaching mastery on a curve, it's hard, hard work. And yet it does start with saying it loud. If we want to turn our dreams into reality, then the first step is defining what you want. If you can't put that dream into words, then it's hard to put that on a timeline, and you risk others swooping in and defining that dream for you. Our guest today is an expert in manifesting what she wants. Tarsha Joyner is the owner and head treatmaker of Mrs. Joy's Absolutely Fabulous Treats, a bakery in Lynchburg, Virginia. Everything from cookies, to caramels and tailor-made cakes. And those cookies are award-winning – Tarsha has appeared on several Food Network competitions, winning the Christmas Cookie Challenge in 2015. It all started with a graphic design class, where Tarsha had to imagine a brand label for an imaginary company. She'll admit it herself – she was a terrible baker back then. But it came down to her confidence, her perseverance, her willingness to dream big – and – keep repeating that dream to herself until it was real.

In this episode, host David Ponraj is joined by Tarsha Hearns, Sr. Director at The DEC Network in Dallas, TX. Together, they shared the progress of our exciting, collaborative initiative to support underrepresented founders in Dallas. The Dallas-based Entrepreneur of Color Credit Enhancement Fund study was launched in 2023 with an anticipated fund implementation in the fall of 2024. This fund is a partnership between The DEC Network and Economic Impact Catalyst, with generous support from JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, Kellogg's Foundation, and TD Jakes Foundation. Tarsha Hearns knows these challenges all too well. As an entrepreneur of color herself, she has lived the same struggle to access capital holding back so many others. During a recent conference session, Hearns provided raw insight into how DEC is working to change the status quo for diverse founders in Dallas. As Hearns explains, DEC undertook extensive research to unpack why so many minority and women entrepreneurs in the city could not access loans or investments. They conducted focus groups, surveys, and outreach to both business owners and the ecosystem meant to serve them. The findings revealed a complex web of disconnects that contribute to capital gaps in Dallas's historically underserved neighborhoods. Many local community development financial institutions (CDFIs), despite a mission to provide equitable funding access, were still rejecting minority applicants at concerning rates. This is often tied to issues like low credit scores or lack of traditional collateral -systemic barriers that disproportionately impact entrepreneurs of color.Faced with this reality, The DEC spearheaded the creation of a novel, ecosystem-based solution: the Inclusive Entrepreneurial Capital Initiative. Recognizing the need for alignment, this initiative brought CDFIs and banks together with small business support organizations on the front lines in underserved neighborhoods. The fund plays a crucial role in promoting equitable access to funding by offering tailored lending, products, and programs that address the unique capital access gaps that exist for entrepreneurs of color, while recognizing the specific needs and concerns of the Dallas entrepreneurial community. The Dallas Entrepreneur of Color Credit Enhancement Fund is at work to shape the next generation of diverse entrepreneurs. The DEC website: https://thedec.co/ Recent Press about the Fund: https://dallasinnovates.com/bank-of-america-supercharges-the-dec-network-mission-with-120k-for-entrepreneurs-of-color/ Connect with Tarsha Hearns: https://www.linkedin.com/in/tarshapolkhearns/
Tarsha "HellGirlVibe" Blackhorn also known as L.D. Curtis sits down and talks about her journey from the military to being a published author. We also find out a secret about both of us while taping that neither of us knew. Compelling and as captivating as the stories she writes, L. D. Curtis, discovered her love for people and storytelling the morning she awoke to a camel spider, in her tent, at an unmarked location, overpowered by the summer heat, of Afghanistan. Years of traveling the world and exploring life played a major role in the development of this imaginative mind. Her stories often push the boundary between life and the possibilities of “What if?”. In her spare time, L. D. Curtis enjoys writing songs and creating visual art. As a child, reading was L.D. Curtis' way to escape everyday life and explore new worlds. Now, L. D. Curtis wishes to give that same feeling to readers all over the world. About a year ago Rachel went to be with the Lord. Before she passed, she said “yes!” to sharing her God story on my podcast. Unfortunately she passed before we were able to record. My mom, one of Rachel's good friends, had the idea to have some of the closest people to Rachel share on her behalf about Rachel and her story. Tarsha, Ginny and my mom, Terri share what they loved about Rachel, how she impacted them and what they know of her God story. Words like “fighter”, “determined”, “gracious”, “great mom”, “intentional”, “no fear of death”, “faith filled” and more were all used to describe Rachel. She was incredible and her friends did a great job giving us a glimpse into the heart and life of Rachel and her story. ✨God Stories with Cassie Instagram: @godstorieswithCassie ✨God Stories with Cassie Email: godstorieswithCassie@gmail.com
Tarsha shared her story of growing up in church and learning God's ways in a deeper way as she started taking some classes and going through some really hard trials. She sought the Lord and sought His wisdom and He was faithful in teaching her and so kind to bless her in new ways after hardship like divorce. She is passionate about living her life in God's ways now and encourages us to do the same. Life with God won't always be easy but the difference is that we can have His peace when we are following Him and His way. That's what Tarsha has now. ✨God Stories with Cassie Instagram: @godstorieswithCassie ✨God Stories with Cassie Email: godstorieswithCassie@gmail.com
Cookies, desserts, gingerbread—you name it, Tarsha Joyner can bake it. As a Food Network champ and owner of her own bake shop, Tarsha is known for her beautiful and tempting treats. But ironically, the best lessons she's learned in life don't come from the competitions she's won or the business she's built. Instead, the best knowledge Tarsha has gained in life was as a foster child when she recognized her value as a daughter of God. When she found the gospel, that knowledge only became more concrete. So while Tarsha may not give away her actual cookie recipes, on this week's episode “Mrs. Joy” is more than willing to share her secret recipe for a happy life. 1:20- Packaging First, Product…Second? 5:55- What You Should Know About Recipes 8:03- Knowing Your Worth As a Child of God 12:42- From Foster Care to Family 15:25- Someday When You're In Control 17:43- Mrs. Joy 20:33- Food Network 22:17- Believing in Yourself 24:28- Owning a Business 25:33- Joining the Church 33:49- Promised Blessings 35:53- Family History and Time Well Spent 41:30- What Does It Mean to Be All In the Gospel of Jesus Christ? “Most people are preparing for retirement and I'm preparing for eternity.” —Tarsha Joyner Links Video interviews with Tarsha- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_EvZ96kzfIU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hh5ZxEWn0ggSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Last week we talked about the importance of mental health within the education system and for teachers. This week we talk about the stigma of mental health existing within the Black community. This prevents company leadership from making necessary changes, and prevents people from feeling fulfilled, recognized, and included at work. At AllVoices, we want to change that by providing a completely safe, anonymous way for people to report issues directly to company leaders. This allows company leadership real transparency into what's happening in their companies—and the motivation to address issues quickly. Our goal is to help create safer, more inclusive companies.

Have you ever wondered why some marriages seem to flourish while others seem to continually flounder? Do you have a desire to make your marriage stronger and more connected? Research tells us that strong marriages have high levels of friendship and emotional connection at their foundation. But how do we do this when we are trying to raise our kids, work full-time jobs, and manage all of our other responsibilities? In this episode, I interview the dynamo couple, Tarsha and Stan Davis. They are focused on inspiring others to create strong marriages and feel “married alive'' versus the ball-and-chain “buried alive” version.
