Today, on Karl and Crew, we kicked off the week with a LIVE in-studio audience as we discussed the importance of sharing the Gospel in a sincere and simple way. The Gospel is to be accessible by all, therefore we need to be intentional about the way we share it with others. We should share it in a way that all can understand. We turned to 2 Corinthians 11:3 where Paul expresses concern about believers being misled by false teachers simply because they don’t understand the simple and truthful gospel. How can you share the gospel in a way where it makes sense to everyone? We also had Pastor Jon Kelly share his testimony of how Jesus met him in solitary confinement. Pastor Kelly is a husband, father and Lead Pastor of Chicago West Bible Church. He also is an alum of Moody Bible Institute. We also had Dr. Joseph Stowell join us. Dr. Stowell is an international conference speaker, author, and former president of Moody Bible Institute. He currently serves on the boards of CURE International, English Language Institute/China and International Aid. Today, on Karl and Crew, we continued our weekly theme of sober-mindedness and discussed its importance during prayer. Prayer is a time of deep intimacy with God, and we need to be fully present during that time of communion with Him. Do you feel fully present during your prayers, or do you find yourself distracted? We analyzed different translations of the scripture, 1 Peter 4:7, to understand how we should approach such an intimate time with God. We also tuned into Zimbabwe to see what Karl was up to with CURE International. Each year, on the 1st of December, the world commemorates World AIDS Day. The aim is to remind society of the need for global solidarity in the ongoing fight against HIV/Aids. According to the results from South Africa's latest HIV prevalence survey there's been a decrease in new HIV infections from 249 000 in 2017 to 232 400 in 2022. The number of people living with HIV has gone down from 7.9 million in 2017 to 7.8 million in 2022. Bongiwe Zwane spoke to Professor Thumbi Ndung'u, an international expert on HIV/Aids and director of basic & translational science at the Africa Health Research Institute (AHRI) in KwaZulu-Natal says now that Africa is turning the tide on HIV/Aids, with most new HIV infections occurring outside the continent, the hunt is on for a cure..
A study by Stanford and Encore.org found that the majority of older adults want to give back in some way. Jim Ansara, an AARP 2024 Purpose Prize winner, is making a big difference in his retirement with his organization Build Health International. How might you redirect your skills and experience to make a difference? Jim Ansara joins us from Beverly , Massachusetts. ____________________ Bio Jim Ansara is a retired general contractor who founded Shawmut Design and Construction in Boston in the early 1980's and led it to become one of the top 25 construction companies in the US. While at Shawmut he led several volunteer teams of employees to build low-tech, clean water systems in Nicaragua with the organization, El Porvenir. After retiring as Chairman of the Board, Jim redirected his energy to the developing world. In 2009 a trip to Haiti with Dr. Paul Farmer led to an invitation to build a small community hospital with Partners in Health (PIH) in Haiti's Central Plateau. The process took a major turn when a massive earthquake struck the country on January 10, 2010. For three-and-a-half years after the earthquake, through the outbreak of cholera and political unrest, through hurricanes and unbearable heat, Jim, his partner Dr. David Walton of PIH, and hundreds of Haitian and Dominican workers persevered to build Haiti's new 340-bed National Teaching Hospital in Mirebalais, Haiti. Since its completion, the mission to build and equip global health care infrastructure has continued via a new non-profit, Build Health International, based in Beverly, MA. The BHI team has undertaken projects in low-resource settings across 22 countries with PIH, the Kellogg Foundation, Cure International, Direct Relief International and numerous other NGOS. For Jim's philanthropy he has received Honorary Doctorates in Humane Letters from Amherst College and Salem State University, as well as distinction from Partners in Health, Health Equity International, The American Red Cross Northeast MA Chapter, the Political Asylum and Immigration Representation Project, Summer Search Boston, and more. He serves on the board of Health Equity International, and in years past on the boards of Salem State University, the Boston Children's Museum, Youth Build, and City Year. _____________________ For More on Jim Ansara Build Health International (BHI) Health Equity Humanitarian Delivers Hospitals for the Poor ____________________ Podcast Episodes You May Like Changing the World One Small Act at a Time – Brad Aronson Live Life in Crescendo – Cynthia Covey Haller The Best Day of My Life So Far – Benita Cooper Why People Make a Career Change with Purpose Top of Mind – Chris Farrell ____________________ Wise Quotes On Learning and New Challenges in Retirement "I'm passionate about tackling challenges and solving problems. And one of the things that really excites me in life is learning, not necessarily learning in traditional methods, but learning by sort of immersion, where I'm trying to keep my nose and mouth just above the flood tide. And I need a level of sort of challenge and the accompanying freneticism in my life to really be happy. I'd like it to be different. I'd like to be a more relaxed and easy-going person, but at 67, that's not going to change probably. So it's really a combination of those two things. And I found, and this is an area, Build Health International, where I could really exercise both of those things. It's informative about who I am and who I'm not." On the Transition to Retirement "I'd like to say that I got to where I am by lots of self reflection and and and that kind of thing, but it's not true. I really fell into it. But I kept sort of trying to figure out what was next for me. And I was also clear on what I didn't want to do. I knew some people who had sold companies and made some money, and many of them manage their money and got into business, either as consultants or advisors.

"Imagine a hospital environment and having a million different pieces of equipment from a million different manufacturers and trying to maintain that or to repair it would be really difficult. And so we standardized our equipment, we're standardizing our services and we're standardizing our practices and our policies and even the way that we manage people. I think now we've gone to a place where actually if we do standardize a lot of the practices, it allows us to deliver our mission better. What do you do when you are offended? Do you quickly let it go, or do you sit and ruminate on it? If you, like most people, tend to do the latter, it can create bitterness, resentment, and pent-up anger in your life and in your heart.Living in a place where we are constantly offended is an unhealthy place to be. My guest today knows this all too well. Brant Hansen is an author, nationally syndicated radio host, advocate for life-changing healthcare to children through CURE International, and the writer of Unoffendable: How Just One Change Can Make All of Life Better.In his book, Brant explains how giving up your “right” to be offended can be one of the most freeing, healthy, simplifying, relaxing, refreshing, stress-relieving, and encouraging things you can do.In this episode, we talk about:How holding on to things can harm usWhy you should use traffic as forgiveness practiceThe personal benefits of letting things goAnd so much more!I hope this conversation is helpful as we navigate anger and offenses in our daily lives!Show Notes: https://jillsavage.org/brant-hansen-196Join me at the Empty Nest Full Life Retreat: jillsavage.org/retreatCheck out our other resources: Mark and Jill's Marriage Story Marriage Coaching Marriage 2.0 Intensives Speaking Schedule Book Mark and Jill to Speak Online Courses Books Marriage Resources: Infidelity Recovery For Happy Marriages For Hurting Marriages For Marriages Where You're the Only One Wanting to Get Help Mom Resources: New/Preschool Moms Moms with Gradeschoolers Moms with Teens and Tweens Moms with Kids Who Are Launching Empty Nest...

What does it look like to meet the needs of very vulnerable people in the face of glaring global disparity? What does it look like to bring God's Kingdom through improving access to healthcare in the Global South? These are the questions we're looking at today as we dive into conversation with CEO of CURE International, Justin Narducci. Justin and his team CURE are distinctly rooted in Luke 9:2 where Jesus commissioned His disciples to proclaim the Kingdom of God and heal the sick. Brant Hansen has been a friend of MinistryWatch for a few years now. We've had him on the show before to talk about his previous books, and about some of the crazy things going on in Christian radio that we cover here at MinistryWatch. He has a new book out, and I think you'll find it humorous and helpful – and perhaps even a bit of a “palate cleanser” to go with some of the stories we report on here at MinistryWatch. Brant is a nationally syndicated radio host and podcast of The Brant and Sherri Oddcast. He also works with CURE International, a worldwide network of hospitals that bring healing and the Good News to children with treatable conditions. FINAL WORDS: Make a donation to MinistryWatch during the month of February and receive a copy of Theresa Sidebotham's book “Handling Allegations In A Christian Ministry.” To donate, click here. The producers for today's program are Jeff McIntosh and Rich Roszel. Until next time, may God bless you!

“What is a man?” asks Hamlet. If all he does is “sleep and feed,” then “a beast, no more.” That's not enough for Hamlet, and it's not enough for Brant Hansen, who spreads the Gospel by radio and in print. He's written a number of books, including his new one, The Men We Need, which asks and answers questions about men's special role in our world, and the opportunity for joy and meaning. Hansen's thesis is rooted in scripture and reflects what Catholics will recognize as the theology of the Body developed by St. John Paul II. It was a great book and our conversation was tremendously fun. This is the seventy-fifth episode of Almost Good Catholics and starts off our third season and the year 2024. Brant Hansen is an author, nationally syndicated radio host, and advocate for healing children through CURE International. He is also diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome and nystagmus, but he doesn't let those diagnoses stop him. Brant and Les discuss Brant's book, “Unoffendable,” and how being unoffendable is an act of obedience. Brant reminds listeners that spirituality is loyalty to God and encourages us that just because we can't feel God's presence doesn't mean He isn't close. He challenges us to think about what we pay attention to because what captures your attention determines who you're becoming. Brant's quirky, honest, and truthful demeanor inspires listeners to strive to live unoffended. Brant is a co-host of the Brant and Sherri Oddcast, which airs on various stations and streams on any streaming platform. Branthansen.com https://livingproof.co/
Brant Hansen is an author, nationally syndicated radio host, and advocate for healing children through CURE International. He's won national “personality of the year” awards for his work on his offbeat and quirky radio show, which airs on more than 200 stations. His podcast with his friend and radio producer, Sherri Lynn (“The Brant and Sherri Oddcast”) has been downloaded more than 10 million times. Brant's first book, Unoffendable, has prompted a national discussion on the idea of forgiveness, and our culture's embrace of self-righteous anger. Brant and his wife Carolyn have been married 30 years and have two grown children. Highlights 03:40 Introduction to Brant Hansen 09:50 Brant's message on his radio show is a message of encouragement. Humans are forgetful. We need constant reminders of Jesus and what we are supposed to be doing. 13:50 Why Brant wrote his book, Unoffendable 15:40 We all think our anger is righteous. We aren't taught enough about anger growing up. 21:30 There are constantly things to be angry about, especially when you are constantly on the news and social media. You can be angry and bitter or be different and take action. 24:15 Stop pointing at other people and observe yourself. The way to constantly force yourself into humility and gratitude is through forgiving people. 27:40 The dopamine hit we get from being right or having that victim mentality 29:00 Responding kindly literally lowers our blood pressure. It calms us and changes our hearts. Choose to forgive. 30:30 Social media is almost set up to create anger and offense. It might be best to take a step back from it. 34:00 “What if Christians were known as people that you can't offend?” 38:00 We have to forgive but we also aren't boundary-less pushovers. 40:15 Confronting difficult conversations as a leader 44:00 Forgiveness is freedom. Freedom from the abuse or wrongdoing you may have experienced at the hand of someone else. You have to forgive them in order to let it go. 47:00 How can leaders help those in their congregation that are struggling to forgive? 50:30 “We are displeased with others because we are convinced that God is displeased with us.” Links BrantHansen.com Unoffendable: How Just One Change Can Make All of Life Better The Men We Need: God's Purpose for the Manly Man, the Avid Indoorsman, or Any Man Willing to Show Up Read the TRANSCRIPT of this podcast Watch on YouTube Get 14-day access to the Core Leader Library The Leading Saints Podcast is one of the top independent Latter-day Saints podcasts as part of nonprofit Leading Saints' mission to help Latter-day Saints be better prepared to lead. Here's my impressive-sounding bio.Brant Hansen is an author, nationally syndicated radio host, and advocate for healing children through CURE International.He's won national “personality of the year” awards for his work on his offbeat and quirky radio show. His podcast with his friend and radio producer, Sherri Lynn (“The Brant and Sherri Oddcast”) has been downloaded more than 10 million times.His first book, Unoffendable, has prompted a national discussion on the idea of forgiveness, and our culture's embrace of self-righteous anger.His second book, both provocative and very personal, is Blessed are the Misfits: Great News for Those Who Are Introverts, Spiritual Strugglers, or Just Feel Like They're Missing Something. In this book, Hansen addresses his own, and many others', inability to “feel God's presence”, and how God might Himself feel about that.His latest, The Truth About Us: The Very Good News About How Very Bad We Are, hit bestseller lists in spring/summer of 2020.He has been married for 30 years to Carolyn, and they have two grown children.But.... here's My real bio:Brant Hansen has no idea what he's doing.He keeps showing up, and people keep asking him to do stuff, and he keeps saying yes.Except when he has to say no, and then he feels kinda guilty about it.He has ideas, and sometimes they leak out on paper or over the airwaves, and people read them, or hear them, and then look at him funny.He doesn't want to brag about it or anything, but he was PRESIDENT of the Illinois Student Librarians Association. He was also All-Conference in “Scholastic Bowl”, and lettered in basketball and football (both for keeping statistics) and was President of his own Stamp Collector Club, which consisted of himself.Brant always looks inappropriately intense. He can't help it.He also has nystagmus, which causes his eyes to shake and his head to move involuntarily. He's always been ashamed of this, but it is what it is. Brant's wife thinks he's handsome anyway, so when he's around her, he doesn't have to think about it.Brant is really, really skeptical. More skeptical than skeptics, as it turns out, especially the one-way sort who are only skeptical of religious claims, but not themselves.He thinks Jesus is the only person who really makes sense. Jesus said “No one is good but God” and this affirms Brant's observations of himself, others, andSupport the showNext Steps Share your thoughts with a review - https://www.uncensoredadviceformen.com/reviews/ Let's connect on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/joshuabrucewilson/ Subscribe and Watch on YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCI11BikVb5CbEwIwjmR89Iw
Brant Hansen, author of The Men We Need--God's Purpose for the Manly Man, the Avid Indoorsman, or Any Man Willing to Show Up, joins the show today. Hansen, who hosts a morning radio show syndicated on 200+ outlets across the country, writes:"I'm here to answer a simple (but not simplistic) question: what are men supposed to actually do? This book is about a big vision for manhood. We've lacked that vision, and all of us: men--women, and children--are hurting because of it. The vision is this: we men are at our best when we are 'keepers of the garden.'"Hansen--whose voice you may recognize from the MediShare commercials on WFIL :)-- elaborates in the book how just like Adam was charged with being keeper of the Garden of Eden, so men are to provide for and nurture their families first & foremost...and in the process, everyone around benefits as well. He is not against things sometimes associated with being manly (physical strength, outdoors-type activities, etc), but his challenge is to men--starting with himself--to serve the Lord first and care for his wife and children, in whatever ways that needs to happen. Hansen writes in a humble and humorous manner & provides much-needed (and Biblical) perspective.In addition to his writing and radio endeavors, Hansen also works for CURE International (based in PA)--top-notch surgical hospitals run by believers which help kids with treatable conditions and share the gospel in the process.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This episode will teach you how to be perfect in all things, at all times, in all ways. Your listening experience will be perfect. Your fingers will glide across your iPhone with ease, your forefinger will touch every button correctly the first time. Your mind and spirit will be perfectly calm, you will comprehend every word spoken and be able to recite it with perfect recall on the first listen. Sounds a little cray cray, right? If that were the expectation, you probably wouldn't want to listen at all. So why do we expect things to be perfect in other parts of our life? For Brant Hansen, perfection prevented him from writing his first book. But then it occurred to him, that he couldn't write the perfect book anyway. Once he accepted that reality, he made the decision to go ahead and start by committing to write at least one chapter. Brant discovered that those perfectionist tendencies enabled a bad habit of procrastination. One of the cures for this? Live radio. You can't procrastinate when the little red light is about to turn on in 3 seconds. What comes out of your mouth is what you've got to give in that moment. If you're terrible - or worse, mediocre - you just have to suffer through it and live to suck another day. Brant is a devoted follower of Jesus, and by his own admission, one who is perfectly “imperfect.” He came to realize that being "perfect" is not about being without sin, or fault. It means endeavoring to use our gifts to build His kingdom here on Earth to the best of our ability. Not to have our identity wrapped in these gifts, but in Him, now and forever. In our conversation with Brant, you'll hear: -Why not shipping your product is hidden protection for the ego...3:15 -How live radio is a panacea for procrastination...8:20 -How perfectionism plays out in Brant's relationship with his children...10:15 -Brant's spiritual journey...15:20 -Why perfectionism may be a mental illness...21:05 -What to do with the phrase "Be ye perfect" in the Bible...24:55 -How Brant has used his "handicaps" to his advantage...29:50 -How not to be an "analytical Christian"...35:40 -One thing you, dear listener, don't know about Brant...39:30 -Wendie and Todd's takeaways from the episode...42:30 branthansen.com https://amzn.to/3qR2rGZ (Lynchpin by Seth Godin) https://smile.amazon.com/Unoffendable-Just-Change-Make-Better/dp/0529123851/ (Unoffendable )by Brant Hanson https://amzn.to/2INWdpX (Blessed are the Misfits) by Brant https://branthansen.com/truthbook/ (The Truth About Us) by Brant BIO: Brant Hansen is an author, nationally syndicated radio host, and advocate for healing children through http://cure.org/ (CURE International). Today on Karl and Crew Mornings, we concluded our weekly theme "Love Conquers", and discussed the life-changing love and grace of God on this Freedom Friday. We asked, "When was the last time you really experienced God's grace?". The scripture reference was Titus 2:11-12, and we highlighted a quote from Christian scholar, Dallas Willard: "Grace is God's action in our lives to accomplish what we cannot accomplish on our own." Karl's church is hosting a free webinar this Saturday, Nov. 7th, called Grace Changes Everything. It's being held from 9am to noon, and the speakers are Robby Angle and Bruce McNicol, founders of TrueFace and authors of "The Cure". Bruce was able to join us this morning and explain more about the event. This week, we also joined together with CURE International. Brant and Sherri talk about loving people who are wrong, the great work at CURE International, being spiritual, living a luxurious life AND Brant mimes the news;
Several years ago I emceed a fundraising event that was being headlined by a well-known, well-respected public speaker. Since we were both seated at the head table, I had the chance to chat with him for a bit during dinner. To say I was surprised (and disappointed) by his demeanor would be a gross understatement. From stage, this man was articulate, passionate, and a pillar of kindness and grace and selflessness. In person, um...not so much. As best I could tell, this man played a role when he got behind a microphone. One-on-one he was disinterested, short, and rude. In front of a crowd, he was...pretty perfect. Though not a politician, he certainly could have filled those shoes rather nicely. Unfortunately, I think it's fairly common for public figures (and maybe all of us) to have two personalities. Which is why it's so stinking remarkable when you come across someone who is genuinely authentic, no matter what is happening or who is watching. Lisa Williams is one of those people. I knew of Lisa long before I actually knew her. She was the radio star at that big station in Orlando...and then at that big network in California. Then, one day, she became my morning show consultant. And then my friend. And I can tell you--beyond a shadow of a doubt--Lisa is as real as they come. Her heart is always on her sleeve. And always in her voice. Lisa Williams has been on the radio for the past 26 years, and is currently the host of the nationally syndicated radio show (and podcast) “Life with Lisa Williams”…heard on 62 stations around the country. During her career, Lisa also spent time on the K-Love radio network and Z88 in Orlando and as an on-air talent consultant. SHOW NOTES: 0:32 - Lisa is happy to learn she is NOT our token female. 1:29 - How Lisa's podcast kinda-sorta turned into a nationally-syndicated radio show. 2:47 - It was in the early 1990's when Lisa had her (very long) worst interview ever. 8:05 - What did Lisa learn from that interview and how would she deal with it now? 10:20 - Lisa loves RINGR. You can try it for free here. 11:08 - Lisa almost didn't graduate from high school. Hear how a teacher--in 30 seconds--turned Lisa's life around. 14:14 - You can find Lisa on the web here...and you can learn more about the sponsor of her show, Cure International, here.
When they were younger, my boys used to ask me "why" a lot. Why do we have to go to the store? Why are clouds white? Why can't I stick my sandwich in the DVD player? Stuff like that. If you're a parent, I'm quite sure you can relate. And while some of my kids' questions had perfectly logical and easily explainable answers...many of them did not. For example, I was never really sure how to respond to "why is our car blue" or "why is the cat's tail so fluffy" or "why does the bathroom at Target smell like Fruit Loops" other than with, "just because." When it comes to Brant Hansen, I find myself trying to explain his likability in similar ways. He's funny and relatable and real, but there are other people who are those things too. Brant is different. And despite my best efforts, I can't articulate exactly why he's so stinking enjoyable to listen to and interact with. So, I'm forced to leave it as, "just because." You'll see. Brant Hansen is a nationally syndicated radio host heard on more than 200 radio stations across the country. He is an author, a speaker, an advocate for Cure International…and he also loves toast. A lot. His talents include playing the accordion and telling amazing stories (including the one you'll hear on this episode). SHOW NOTES: 0:24 - Brant is slightly offended at being the "worst interview ever." 2:23 - The story of Brant's interview with the National Whistling Champion. 6:36 - Learn more about RINGR. 7:08 - Brant's tips and tricks for rescuing a bad interview. 10:01 - What moment in Brant's life changed him forever? 13:01 - Get in touch with Brant at his website.
