What does it look like to live sober minded and presence centered in a world full of noise and distraction? In this message, Pastor Steve unpacks Psalm 27 and the kind of life that flows from covenantal intimacy with God—a life where His presence is the goal, the anchor, and the reward. David stands as a powerful example of someone who pursued God with a whole heart, but this invitation is for all of us: to lay down our lives, allow the Lord to reset our hearts, and return to what truly fulfills. When we live with clear minds and centered hearts, we're freed to love fully and walk in the reverence and beauty of a life wholly for Him. Recorded at Hope Church in Springfield, MO.
1 Peter series message 4Text: 1 Peter 1:13-21Peter begins with the holiness of God; Paul closes his letter to the Romans by applying His holiness. The Holy Spirit is telling us that God's holiness amplifies His grace and provides a compelling call to live by the fear of God and not be conformed to worldly passions during our heavenward pilgrimage.

SEND US A MESSAGE! We'd Love to Chat With you and Hear your thoughts! We'll read them on the next episode. In today's political climate, the American church, depending on who you speak with, is on the brink of a moral relapse or on the brink of a golden age. How did we get to such an impasse amongst Christians? Is DOGE that big a deal for Christians and their convictions? Where were those convictions the last 4 years? Are conservative Christians heartless for lacking sympathy for their neighbors affected by these grand changes? Have we gone too far with our allegiance to government? Have we neglected the deep implications of what it means to be the (C)hurch? How does a Christian live in this new era of American history where there are both things to celebrate and mourn? As we navigate these waters, Christians are reminded to revert back to their profession. This profession can be summed up into two words - believing loyalty. This loyalty belongs to God and only to God. It doesn't belong to democrats nor to republicans. Not to Trump. Nor to Obama, Biden, Clinton etc. However, when this loyalty is lived out, there will be uncompromisable principles we, as Christians are called to stand firm in. And you should never move one inch on those principles...for anyone. How should we wade these waters faithfully rather than gleefully with bitter vengeance in our hearts toward our neighbors? Maybe Brandon will address some of this. 1st Peter deals with the Christian's response to opposition from the world. In chapter 5 verses 7 and 8, Peter exhorts us, in the midst of this opposition, to cast our cares upon the Lord for He cares for us. This is God's assurance to us. Dr. Mitchell recounts the experience of a WW II Army pilot who carried and read his Bible during one perilous mission. This man read verses 6 and 7 of 1st Peter chapter 5. The Lord brought back the whole squadron with no one missing. Dr. Mitchell heard this story from this man when later he came to be a radio producer for 18 years for Dr. Mitchell. He was able to resist the devil during the opposition through faith in the Word of God. Here is Dr. Mitchell to share 1st Peter 5:7 & 8 on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

As we learned in our call to worship, there is a glorious in for those who walk in the fear of the Lord, and that word walk speaks of a lifestyle. It speaks of a commitment to behave in God's will, being committed to his purposes and understanding the knowledge of the Lord for what purpose that we might implement his truth in our life. Through the power of the Holy Spirit that lives within us we can be watchful, alert, and on guard against Satan's attacks. We can recognize spiritual warfare when it comes. We don't have to be caught unaware. We can resist, and with God's strength, stand against our enemy's attacks.Main Points:1. I have noticed that quite often the scripture calls for us as believers to be alert, vigilant, sober-minded, to watch, and to be on guard.2. The Word of God calls for us to be spiritually alert because spiritual warfare is a reality each of us will face. The enemy of our soul is not content to allow us to serve God without opposition.3. We must remain spiritually alert so that we can stand against Satan's attacks against our faith. The attacks come in the form of temptations, lies, false teaching, discouragement, unforgiveness, bitterness, and more. These enemies of the heart threaten our faith. As we are watchful in prayer we keep our hearts and our souls where need to be with God. With God's help, we will remain strong.Today's Scripture Verses:1 Peter 5:8-9 - “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith…”Ephesians 6:10 says we can “be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power.”John 8:44 - that the devil “…does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it."1 Corinthians 16:13 - “Be watchful, stand firm in the faith.”Quick Links:Subscribe to The 5 Minute Discipleship NewsletterDonate to support this podcastLeave a review on Apple PodcastsGet a copy of The 5 Minute Discipleship JournalConnect on SocialJoin The 5 Minute Discipleship Facebook Group
Dr. Joe Rigney goes through the creation account in Genesis 1-3 to show the headship of the husband and wife relationship. Dr. Rigney emphasizes the importance of a courageous marriage in the 21st century, based on biblical teachings. He discusses the concept of male headship rooted in creation, highlighting the roles of husbands and wives. This session delves into the complementarity of the sexes in God's design and the importance of faithful fulfillment of specific roles. Dr. Rigney discusses the parallel between Christ and the church and husband and wife in complementarianism. The roles of husbands in sacrificial leadership and wives in showing respect and honor are emphasized for a harmonious and fruitful marital relationship. # Building a Courageous Marriage: Understanding Roles and Aligning Actions In a world that increasingly challenges traditional values, understanding the biblical foundations of marriage is more crucial than ever. Today, I want to delve into what it means to build a courageous marriage in the 21st century, focusing on the roles of husbands and wives, and how these roles align with God's divine plan. ### The Cultural Controversy In recent times, the church has faced significant controversies, particularly regarding gender identity and the biblical understanding of what it means to be human. These debates are not merely academic; they have profound implications on how we live out our faith and establish our households. As conservative, Bible-believing Christians, we often find ourselves culturally marginalized for our beliefs in the immutable nature of gender as created by God. ### The Role of Marriage in Shaping Children The home is the first school of learning. Here, children first encounter and absorb concepts of gender roles. The way a father loves their mother, the respect a mother shows to their father, these early observations shape children's expectations of their own future roles. In essence, marriage provides a framework for understanding manhood and womanhood, which is foundational for nurturing Christian children who can navigate the complexities of modern society with biblical integrity. ## Understanding Manhood and Womanhood The Bible provides clear frameworks in Genesis and Ephesians about what it means to be a man and a woman. These passages are not archaic texts but living words that still speak powerfully into our lives today. For instance, Ephesians 5 calls wives to submit to their husbands as to the Lord, and husbands to love their wives as Christ loved the church. This mutual submission and love are indicative of the harmony God intends for marriage. ### The Indicatives, Imperatives, and Applications To fully grasp the biblical texts, we must understand three key concepts: **Indicatives**: These are factual statements about reality as established by God. **Imperatives**: These are commands or duties derived from those facts. **Applications**: These involve applying the imperatives in our daily lives in a way that aligns with the indicatives. ## Aligning Actions with God's Commands The beauty of God's design for marriage is seen when these roles are lived out according to His commands. When a husband exercises his role as head of the family with love and integrity, and when a wife supports her husband with respect and grace, the marriage thrives. This alignment is not always easy. It requires courage, faith, and a continual reliance on God's strength and wisdom. In the face of challenges, may we find the fortitude to build homes that are beacons of Christ's love, truth, and grace. Let us hold fast to the truth, love earnestly, and lead our families with the courage that comes from God alone. www.ReformedRookie.com
Quite often it can become all too easy to strive for things that are beyond ourselves; to want authority or prestige that is not ours to obtain. To think of ourselves with sober judgement is wisdom often overlooked. What does it mean to think soberly? Alex unpacks this more in this message.
As we enter the month of August it's time to turn our attention to presidential politics. I've heard Christians say this year, more than I've ever heard before, that they plan to sit out this election because there's just not a candidate they can vote for in good conscience. I want us to consider: how do we approach politics from a biblical worldview? Andrew T. Walker, “Christian realism and the new GOP,” July 19, 2024. Erick Erickson, “It's Trump-Vance 2024,” July 15, 2024.
