There's a word I don't use very often because, let's be honest—it sounds boring. Sober. But biblically, sober-minded doesn't mean dull, restricted, or missing out. It means clear, awake, steady, self-controlled, and grounded in truth. Scripture tells us to be sober-minded and watchful—not because God wants to take something from us, but because clarity gives us access to discernment, peace, and wise decisions. Here's what I see over and over again with women I work with: We don't just numb pain—we numb guidance. We numb conviction. We numb connection. Alcohol, busyness, scrolling, over-functioning… they all create noise. And when there's constant noise, it's hard to hear God. It's hard to trust yourself. It's hard to respond instead of react. A sober mind is a powerful mind. And here's the part we don't talk about enough: You don't sustain this kind of clarity alone. Sober-minded living requires support, truth-telling, and accountability—not labels, not shame, not perfection. That's exactly why I created the Collective. It's a space for women who want to live awake, grounded, and aligned—with faith, with their values, and with their lives. If you're done numbing. If you're craving clarity. If you want support instead of trying to do this on your own… You can learn more and join us through the link below. Sober-minded isn't boring. It's powerful. And it changes everything. What does it look like to have Christian fortitude in the age of agitation and anxiety? How can we be sober-minded when emotional mobs are demanding our empathy? Joe Rigney talks through these Biblical character traits - what it looks like when it goes wrong (both in the Church and culturally) and how Christians can stand for what is good and right. Dr. Rigney served as a professor and president of Bethlehem College & Seminary in Minneapolis, a pastor at Cities Church in St. Paul, and a teacher at Desiring God. On this episode of Uncommon Sense with Ginny Robinson, we confront the horrific attack at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis. The shooter, Robert “Robin” Westman, once walked those same halls as a student. Years of unchecked mental illness and spiritual rebellion ended in bloodshed.America is in denial. We refuse to face the truth: the transgender movement is built on a Satanic lie. No one can change the sex God gave them. Pretending otherwise doesn't heal broken souls, it destroys them and puts others in danger.Christians must speak plainly. Love does not mean affirming sin or confusion. Love means pointing people back to Christ, who alone gives us our identity. Until our nation repents and turns back to God, tragedies like this will only increase.Pray for the victims and their families.--https://policecoffee.com/collections/coffee

What does it look like to live sober minded and presence centered in a world full of noise and distraction? In this message, Pastor Steve unpacks Psalm 27 and the kind of life that flows from covenantal intimacy with God—a life where His presence is the goal, the anchor, and the reward. David stands as a powerful example of someone who pursued God with a whole heart, but this invitation is for all of us: to lay down our lives, allow the Lord to reset our hearts, and return to what truly fulfills. When we live with clear minds and centered hearts, we're freed to love fully and walk in the reverence and beauty of a life wholly for Him. Recorded at Hope Church in Springfield, MO.

SEND US A MESSAGE! We'd Love to Chat With you and Hear your thoughts! We'll read them on the next episode. In today's political climate, the American church, depending on who you speak with, is on the brink of a moral relapse or on the brink of a golden age. How did we get to such an impasse amongst Christians? Is DOGE that big a deal for Christians and their convictions? Where were those convictions the last 4 years? Are conservative Christians heartless for lacking sympathy for their neighbors affected by these grand changes? Have we gone too far with our allegiance to government? Have we neglected the deep implications of what it means to be the (C)hurch? How does a Christian live in this new era of American history where there are both things to celebrate and mourn? As we navigate these waters, Christians are reminded to revert back to their profession. This profession can be summed up into two words - believing loyalty. This loyalty belongs to God and only to God. It doesn't belong to democrats nor to republicans. Not to Trump. Nor to Obama, Biden, Clinton etc. However, when this loyalty is lived out, there will be uncompromisable principles we, as Christians are called to stand firm in. And you should never move one inch on those principles...for anyone. How should we wade these waters faithfully rather than gleefully with bitter vengeance in our hearts toward our neighbors? Maybe Brandon will address some of this. As we learned in our call to worship, there is a glorious in for those who walk in the fear of the Lord, and that word walk speaks of a lifestyle. It speaks of a commitment to behave in God's will, being committed to his purposes and understanding the knowledge of the Lord for what purpose that we might implement his truth in our life. Through the power of the Holy Spirit that lives within us we can be watchful, alert, and on guard against Satan's attacks. We can recognize spiritual warfare when it comes. We don't have to be caught unaware. We can resist, and with God's strength, stand against our enemy's attacks.Main Points:1. I have noticed that quite often the scripture calls for us as believers to be alert, vigilant, sober-minded, to watch, and to be on guard.2. The Word of God calls for us to be spiritually alert because spiritual warfare is a reality each of us will face. The enemy of our soul is not content to allow us to serve God without opposition.3. We must remain spiritually alert so that we can stand against Satan's attacks against our faith. The attacks come in the form of temptations, lies, false teaching, discouragement, unforgiveness, bitterness, and more. These enemies of the heart threaten our faith. As we are watchful in prayer we keep our hearts and our souls where need to be with God. With God's help, we will remain strong.Today's Scripture Verses:1 Peter 5:8-9 - “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith…”Ephesians 6:10 says we can “be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power.”John 8:44 - that the devil “…does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it."1 Corinthians 16:13 - “Be watchful, stand firm in the faith.”Quick Links:Subscribe to The 5 Minute Discipleship NewsletterDonate to support this podcastLeave a review on Apple PodcastsGet a copy of The 5 Minute Discipleship JournalConnect on SocialJoin The 5 Minute Discipleship Facebook Group
