In the final hour, Danny Parkins discussed how Andy Dalton has all but been named the Chicago Bears' starting quarterback. And although rookie Justin Fields has asked Bears fans to stop booing Dalton, Parkins says "screw that -- keep booing." Also, Score contributor Dave Wannstedt gave the Mully & Haugh Show some information earlier in the morning that's likely extremely privileged and embargoed. Doesn't matter to Wanny! Joined by the legendary Danny Fields, Mark and Barney hear tales of his days with the Stooges and the MC5 – and the five years he spent managing the Ramones. He also recounts the tale of the night Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin wound up rolling around on the floor of Steve Paul's The Scene in a ball of cartoon smoke and fists. The week's free feature focuses on Primal Scream: Mark, Barney and Danny compare notes on the band's frontman Bobby Gillespie and weigh up the influence of 1991's Screamadelica. The trio then listen to excerpts from a 1978 audio interview with George Clinton, in which the P-Funk chief talks about what "funkadelic" means and how the classic 'One Nation Under a Groove' was born. To round out the episode, Mark presents highlights from the articles added to the archive, including a 1966 interview with Kim Fowley, a 1976 review of Shirley Bassey live at the Royal Albert Hall and a 1983 report on MTV. Meet Dan and Dan! Dan Reed, Music Director and Afternoon Host at WXPN/Philadelphia and Dan DeLuca, Music Critic and Columnist for the Philadelphia Inquirer sit down on a bi-weekly basis to talk MUSIC! Who is Danny Fields? Well, we'll find out on the new Dan and Dan Music Podcast. The guys welcome Brendan Toller to the podcast. Brendan is the director of a new music documentary about Danny Fields called 'Danny Says'. It's an extraordinary new film that explores the life of a man who among other things signed Iggy and The Stooges, managed The Ramones, and worked with Jim Morrison. In addition to our interview with Brendan, the guys also honor the late Leonard Cohen and Leon Russell.
DANNY SAYS is a documentary on the life and times of Danny Fields. Since 1966, Danny Fields has played a pivotal role in music and “culture” of the late 20th century: working for the Doors, Lou Reed, Nico, Judy Collins and managing groundbreaking artists like the Stooges, the MC5 and the Ramones. DANNY SAYS follows Fields from Harvard Law dropout, to the Warhol Silver Factory, to Director of Publicity at Elektra Records, to “punk pioneer” and beyond. Danny’s taste and opinion, once deemed defiant and radical, has turned out to have been prescient. DANNY SAYS is a story of marginal turning mainstream, avant-garde turning prophetic, as Fields looks to the next generation. DANNY SAYS is lead by Fields voice and is largely crafted from over 250 hours of present-day interviews and items from Danny Fields’ immense archive (thousands of photographs, audio cassettes, ephemera). Director Brendan Toller joins us for a conversation on the wild, hedonistic, boundary pushing times when Danny Fields was the first and last word on music that changed American culture. On today's episode of Deep Focus, host Tom Breen talks with local filmmaker Brendan Toller, director of the new documentary DANNY SAYS, about two movies that have had a profound influence on him as a watcher and maker of movies: BENJAMIN SMOKE, a 2000 documentary about a singer-songwriter, drag queen, speedfreak, misfit named Benjamin from Atlanta, Georgia, and SILVERLAKE LIFE, a 1993 documentary about a California couple living and dying with AIDS. On the second segment of the show, Tom interviews local filmmaker Russ D Martin about his new movie, ...an inappropriate affect.
