Lady A (formerly Lady Antebellum) have been together almost 20 years as a group. Members Hillary Scott and Charles Kelley both announced they're expecting a new baby with their spouses! Dave Hayward also welcomed his third child last summer. This trio is one of my top 5 favorites bands, and I saw them 10 years ago while I was working in country radio. This week two movies about young women and the lengths they will go to for love and connections.     Tammy is a cheerleader with a crush on football player Michael. When Michael is abducted by Tammy's violent and jealous ex-boyfriend he is left in a coma hovering between life and death. Meanwhile, Dr. Wachinstein is preparing his new creation to show for his investors. All the potentially mad doctor needs is a fresh brain. What twist of fate will bring these three together? Can love blossom between a girl and a 1000 lbs. robot dinosaur? One of the titans of good bad film discussion viewed in all its restored and bloody glory, Tammy and the T-Rex: Gore Cut.     Star is living with her sexually abusive father and taking care of two half-siblings. When she meets Jake, the top seller in a travelling sales crew, he offers her the chance to get away. Joining the crew, Star navigates her feelings toward Jake, his approach to selling, and the tangled web of relationships between the rest of the crew. The fourth feature from Andrea Arnold and featuring a powerhouse debut performance from Sasha Lane, American Honey.     All that and a small change of plans as next week we will be placing the brilliance of Nakadai on the shelf for a bit and instead diving into some Lynchian nightmares.  Episode 396- Dino Dixie String Bikini

This collector-worthy release is an 8-Year-Old, 101-proof bourbon, with an additional blend of 8- to 9-year-old whiskeys, hand-selected from a few of Jimmy's favorite Rickhouses. Best enjoyed neat or over ice, this bourbon is a true tribute to Jimmy's legacy From his earliest days at the distillery sweeping the floors at age 18 to rising through the ranks to become Master Distiller, Jimmy has remained committed to crafting bourbon one way, the right way, even when it wasn't popular. In the 1970's and 80's when the bourbon industry was close to collapse, Jimmy stayed the course. 1855 Wholesale grocer Austin Nichols begins selling wine and spirits. The business would later go on to own and sell Wild Turkey. 1869 The Ripy brothers open their family distillery on Wild Turkey Hill in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. 1893 The Ripy Brothers' bourbon represents Kentucky at the World's Fair in Chicago, Illinois. 1940 Wild Turkey Bourbon gets its name after a distillery executive shares his bourbon with friends on an annual hunting trip — of course, they were after wild turkey. THE RUSSELL EFFECT 1954 Master Distiller Jimmy Russell joins Wild Turkey. He learns his craft from becomes the third in a line of master distillers for the brand which includes second master distiller, Bill Hughes, and Ernest W. Ripy, son of the original distiller. 1976 Wild Turkey introduces the world's first bourbon liqueur, introducing a broader audience and attracting even more drinkers to the bourbon world. The liqueur would eventually lead to the creation of American Honey. 1981 Eddie Russell, son of Jimmy Russell, joins Wild Turkey as a relief operator and begins to work his way up the distillery ladder. 1991 Wild Turkey introduces our premium Rare Breed bourbon, one of the first barrel proof bourbons to hit the market. 1995 Wild Turkey follows it up with the launch of Kentucky Spirit, a single-barrel 101-proof bourbon, one of the only single barrel American whiskey offerings of the time. THE NEW VISION 2000 Master Distiller Jimmy Russell is inducted into the Kentucky Bourbon Hall of Fame. 2004 Jimmy Russell celebrates his 50th year at the Wild Turkey distillery. 2010 Eddie Russell is inducted into the Kentucky Bourbon Hall of Fame by his father, Jimmy Russell. 2015 Eddie Russell is officially given the title of Master Distiller, then making Jimmy and Eddie the only active father and son duo of bourbon Master Distillers in the world. 2016 Famed actor and bourbon enthusiast Matthew McConaughey joins Wild Turkey as Creative Director. 2018 Wild Turkey introduces Longbranch, a small-batch bourbon refined with Texas Mesquite and American Oak charcoals, and the first co-creation from Master Distiller Eddie Russell and Creative Director Matthew McConaughey. 2020 Wild Turkey introduces Rare Breed Rye, our premium quality, masterfully crafted barrel proof rye.

In today's episode, Jeff and Becky chat with Chris Hiatt, the President of the American Honey Producers Association (AHPA). AHPA, with a history dating back to its establishment in 1969, has been a cornerstone of the beekeeping community. Their mission has always revolved around advocating for beekeepers and the honey industry, and they've consistently upheld this commitment. The AHPA has played a pivotal role in advancing the beekeeping industry, with a primary focus on the needs and concerns of all beekeepers, from the hobbyist, to the commercial and sideline beekeeper. They work tirelessly with organizations promoting bee health, research and awareness, such as the Honey Bee Health Coalition, Bee Informed Partnership, Project Apis m., and Pollinator Partnership. (All of whom have been guests on this podcast!) AHPA is also deeply involved in honey promotion and marketing. They understand that creating a strong demand for honey and honey-related products is essential to support the livelihoods of beekeepers. Through collaborations with industry partners (such as the National Honey Board) and various initiatives, they work diligently to ensure that the efforts of beekeepers are rewarded fairly. Additionally, AHPA is actively engaged in honey standards and advocacy, working to ensure that the quality of honey products is maintained, and that beekeepers' interests are well-represented on regulatory fronts. Listen as we sit down with Chris Hiatt to gain insights into the important work being done by the American Honey Producers Association. His wealth of experience and expertise as President of the organization provides valuable perspectives on the current state and future of beekeeping. While mainly focusing on the matter at hand which is the last two projects (Pipeline and Crowded, for brevity), you'll hear a ton about Sasha's process, working relationships and working boundaries, and all that comes with the work on screen. There's such a lot happening on said screen and behind the scenes so it's great to get an honest perspective on things, which is what Sasha truly delivers.* BUDDY NOTE!The sound on Sasha's side is a little tricky sometimes and at worst, a little hard to make out. I've done a fair job and retained what I could, but this was the only option we had - luckily our ears are tough little things and can get used to this sort of stuff, but apologies for a slightly less easy listen than you've become accustomed to. Just wanted to let you know that's all. In today's episode, we have two guests, both deep in the promotion of honey and honey bees.  First up, Jeff talks with Allison Hager, the 2023 American Honey Princess, and then we talk with Keith Seiz, of the National Honey Board (NHB) and how they are promoting the use of honey and how this benefits beekeepers across the United States. First up, we learn about the American Beekeeping Federation Honey Queen program. This program selects an ambassador to represent the beekeeping industry, promoting honey and educating the public about the importance of bees. Jeff talks with Allison Hager, of Iowa and the 2023 American Honey Princess,  about the Honey Queen Program and upcoming visits. The National Honey Board was established in 1985 through an Act of Congress and managed by the USDA's Agricultural Marketing Service's, Research and Promotions Program, as an industry-funded organization promoting honey and honey products. They became operational in 1987. Their mission is to increase consumer awareness, research, and education about honey, as well as support the sustainability and success of beekeepers nationwide. While originally funded by honey producers, as of 2008 the funding has switched to US honey packers and importers, where the first handler or packer is assessed $0.015 per pound of honey and honey products. The NHB serves as a valuable resource for beekeepers, offering essential information on best practices, research advancements, and market trends. Check out their wonderful and informational website today! Just in time for July 4th week: today these A24 fans review the 2016 film "American Honey" written and directed by Andrea Arnold. Starring Sasha Lane and Shia LeBeuof: American Honey is about a woman named Star. We drop into her life as she takes care of her half brother and half sister. When Star is getting food at a supermarket: she meets a man named Jake (played by Shia Lebouf) who offers her a job making “$300 a day.” After one rough day at home with her sexually abusive father, Star decides to drop her half brother and sister off with their biological mom at the local Frogwild Saloon before she joins Jake on the road as part of a magazine sales crew. Andrea Arnold was inspired to make this film after reading a 2007 New York Times article written by Ian Urbina about the brutally unregulated industry of door-to-door magazine sales. How will the fleeting scent of patriotism make the A24 Rocks crew discuss this American film? Caution: movie spoilers. Next 4 A24 films we're reviewing before the 2016 A24 Oscars: 42. Moonlight 43. Oasis: Supersonic 44. Podcast Ep-07 - The American Honey Bee These show notes provide a background in the genetic study of honey bees. Called by some, the third industrial revolution in agriculture, it features the development of genetically modified organisms and how that topic relates to honey bees. Determining what makes up the honey bee genome was pioneered by Dr. Gene Robinson, who wrote an article on the subject in the December 2000 Bee Culture Magazine dedicated to the memory of his advisor, Dr. Roger A. Morse. This is summarized in Dr. Sanford's website. The identification of the races of honey bees has always been somewhat of a mystery. Historically it was best determined by measuring physical characteristics of various subspecies. Called morphometrics, this was pioneered by Fredrich Ruttner. It has been replaced via determining the genetic haplotype of honey bees, as described in Dr. Alburaki's publication referenced above, concentrating on lack of genetic diversity in the genome of New World U.S. honey bees, almost all exclusively imported from the Old World.
