The nu metal revival is alive and well in 2025, so much so, that iconic bands from that era are returning to delight long-term fans, while gaining a whole new audience who have yet to experience them. One such band is Northamptonshire, UK's Defenestration. A five-piece who were active between 1999 – 2004, releasing three studio albums (One Inch God – 2001 / Ray Zero – 2003 / For Us it Ends When We Drown – 2004) and one split EP, (Year of the Slug with Scurge – 2002). Not only that, but they also toured all over the world with the likes of Raging Speedhorn, Napalm Death, Biffy Clyro, The Wildhearts, Skindred, and so many more iconic bands. So popular were they, that they opened the Wembley Arena leg of the 2001 'Tattoo the Planet Tour'. A set of shows that included Cradle of Filth, Static-X, Biohazard, Slayer and Pantera. Twenty years after their last live performance as Defenestration, the original members reunited for a ‘one-off' performance. Supporting Raging Speedhorn, the show was to raise money for record producer Russ Russell who was unable to work due to illness. This would be followed by another benefit gig for Russ Russell later in August 2024, Defenestration's first headline show since 2004. The itch was back, and another set of shows with Raging Speedhorn all but confirmed that there was a desire for Defenestration to return as an active band. Which is where we find ourselves now. Defenestration has reformed, is under new management, and is in the process of solidifying their legacy, while looking to the future too. This is what we discuss with vocalist Gen Tasker, getting excited about what the future might bring, while also spending plenty of time look back at their immense history too. Kenny Hickey joins the Talk Toomey podcast to discuss *Sun Don't Shine* and their latest single, "The Promise Song." He shares the story of Johnny Kelly's unexpected allergic reaction to a bee sting, which landed him in urgent care. Kenny talks about the band's songwriting process, recording challenges, and the decision to change their name from *Eye Am* due to trademark issues. He also reflects on the difficulties of being a frontman and the importance of maintaining a raw, natural sound in their music. The discussion covers the evolution of the name "Type O Negative", which went through multiple changes, including "New Minority" and "Repulsion," before settling on "Type O Negative," inspired by tattoos and blood type. They reminisce about the early hardcore scene and how the band's imagery was influenced by negative symbolism. The conversation shifts to the band's upcoming plans, revealing that they are focusing on writing and recording a full-length album instead of an EP. They reflect on the longevity of their peers, like Biohazard and Life of Agony, and the realities of aging as musicians. The chat ends with thoughts on nostalgia, band reunions, and the impact of legacy acts like Pantera. In this explosive episode of *The Metal Maniacs Podcast*, hosts Jay Ingersoll and Modd are joined by two heavy hitters from the scene: Luke Forton, the vocalist of **Reinventing Yesterday**, and Jeremy McClarey, the frontman of **Snake Out**. Together, they introduce Jay and Modd to the world of **hardcore**, diving deep into the extreme metal subgenre that has shaped everything from metal to punk and beyond. **Hardcore 101: The Roots and Rivalries** What comes to mind when you think of "metal"? Heavy riffs, brutal breakdowns, and epic solos? Now, what about "hardcore"? Luke and Jeremy help us explore the defining characteristics of hardcore as a genre, its connection to punk, and how it differs—and sometimes overlaps—with metal. We dig into the age-old debates: *Why can't we all just get along?* **The Evolution: From Punk to Metal** Hardcore's journey through music history is rich with influence. From its roots in 1980s punk with bands like **Black Flag**, **Minor Threat**, and **Bad Brains**, hardcore began blending into the metal world, influencing a wide range of extreme genres. We discuss how crossover thrash emerged, with bands like **Slayer**, **Metallica**, and **Anthrax** adopting hardcore and punk influences to shape the sound of thrash metal in the 80s. As hardcore evolved, it birthed new subgenres like **metallic hardcore** in the late 80s and 90s. Bands such as **Cro-Mags**, **Biohazard**, **Integrity**, **Madball**, and **Hatebreed** became central figures in the hardcore scene, mixing thrash, hardcore, and metal to create a new wave of aggressive, high-energy music. **The Blurring Lines of Metalcore** The line between hardcore and metalcore has always been fuzzy. As metalcore rose in popularity, many fans and critics argued about what truly defines the genre. **Proto-Deathcore and Beyond** As hardcore and metalcore evolved, so did the more extreme subgenres. **Deathcore** emerged as a brutal hybrid of death metal and hardcore, and while it's often debated whether it retains any hardcore essence, the influence of hardcore can still be traced in bands like **The Acacia Strain**, **The Red Chord**, and **Bleeding Through**. However, hardcore's reach didn't stop with metalcore or deathcore—it also inspired the rise of extreme bands in various niches of the underground scene. Luke and Jeremy give us their personal recommendations of modern hardcore bands, such as **Drain**, **Ingrown**, **Knocked Loose**, and **Candy**, discussing how they continue to carry the torch for hardcore with fresh, innovative sounds. **The Sound of Hardcore Today** In the second half of the episode, we dive into the current state of hardcore, where bands like **Twitching Tongues**, **God's Hate**, **Gates to Hell**, and **Fuming Mouth** have brought the genre to new heights. Whether it's the blistering speed of **Enforced** or the pummeling grooves of **Pain of Truth**, hardcore continues to push the boundaries of aggression, intensity, and emotion. Jay and Modd get to react to snippets of some of these bands' latest tracks, which leads to some fascinating conversations about the evolving sounds of hardcore and how the genre is both changing and staying true to its roots. The energy and raw emotion in these tracks are undeniable, and you'll hear firsthand the passion both our guests and hosts bring to the discussion. This episode is a must-listen for anyone interested in the deep roots of extreme music. Whether you're a seasoned hardcore fan or new to the scene, Luke and Jeremy break down everything you need to know about the genre's evolution, its influence on modern metal, and how it's still thriving today. So, tune in and get ready for an unforgettable ride through the world of hardcore! **Don't forget to subscribe** to *The Metal Maniacs Presents: The Last Week on Earth*, where we bring you all the latest and greatest in metal, hardcore, and beyond! Stephanie Ruby shares how Bio-One Franchise is a fast start up, low investment opportunity that makes big impact.3 Takeaways on This Episode of Close The Deal Podcast:
You can call this one a remake! Back in 1999, Capcom released their third Biohazard title. This episode is about the remake of that survival horror game, which was likewise developed by Capcom. With over twenty years and countless franchise entries separating the two, it is clear the actual development teams were comprised of different individuals. This leaves long-time fans to wonder: which team did it best? Updating Resident Evil for the modern action-favoring audience is sure to disappoint some purists, but will the graphical overhaul and tighter story prove a worthwhile trade? Join Tom and Chris as they take another shot at this famous franchise and learn if they really want to sink their teeth into this one. What do you think? Let us know! Billy Graziadei reflects on some epic tours and reunions, the interview kicks off with nostalgia over seeing Biohazard live alongside acts like Ozzy Osbourne, Sepultura, and Danzig. Memories resurface of Biohazard's early tours, including unexpected moments that kept the band from rejoining Ozzfest. Fast forward, the discussion dives into Powerflo's raw, intense process behind their latest album, *Gorilla Warfare*, which is built from heavy collaboration and Sunday jam sessions. Balancing multiple bands, each member is focused on their love for music over fame, bringing everything they've got to keep rock and metal alive. Reflecting on his band's unique blend of metal and hip-hop, Billy explains that their sound evolved naturally from their diverse influences, rather than a planned fusion of styles. He emphasizes that he doesn't intentionally write for one band or the other; instead, he allows songs to find their own place within his projects. When working with PowerFlo, he values the collaborative process, especially with vocalist Sen Dog, where ideas flow freely and they build on each other's strengths. This organic approach fuels a sound that feels raw and authentic, bringing the best of their musical backgrounds together. In this interview, Joshua Toomey welcomes Alan Robert, bassist for Life of Agony and accomplished artist, to discuss his creative projects. Alan shares insights about his latest endeavor, an official Beetlejuice coloring book in collaboration with Warner Brothers, which coincides with the release of the new Beetlejuice movie. He talks about the process of drawing scenes from the movie and how much fun it was to immerse himself in Tim Burton's world. Alan also reflects on his artistic journey, from illustrating other projects like the Universal Monsters coloring book to his early experiences learning from legendary comic book artist Walter Simonson during his time at the School of Visual Arts. He recalls how comic conventions were much smaller in the early days and how breaking into the comic industry back then was tough. He shares how he eventually balanced music and art, creating iconic band merchandise and album covers for groups like Black Sabbath and Pantera. The conversation also touches on Alan's roots, his longtime friendship with Biohazard's Evan Seinfeld, and how watching them succeed inspired his own musical career. Throughout the interview, Alan discusses the evolution of creating art, how digital tools have revolutionized the process, and the importance of meeting deadlines when working on big projects like Beetlejuice. Alan discusses the creative process behind his comic work, drawing inspiration from music, like Pantera's Cemetery Gates, which influenced his short story. He also highlights his collaboration with Z2 Comics and other projects like the Type O Negative graphic novel. Alan reflects on balancing his artistic endeavors with touring, recalling his earlier days of drawing comics backstage during tours in the early 2010s. He contrasts that with his recent approach, where he focuses on intricate artwork, like The Beauty of Horror, while at home and reserves touring for music. Alan also reminisces about his time at the School of Visual Arts and shares a fun experience watching Keanu Reeves live on The Late Show. He appreciates the balance of his current life, splitting time between touring and comics. He mentions recent recording sessions at a legendary NYC studio, hinting at exciting music releases soon. Finally, he touches on the importance of creator-owned comic projects and his freedom to expand his characters across multiple platforms.Joshua Toomey on Facebook/Twitter @talktoomeytalk Support Toomey on Patreon www.patreon.com/talktoomey Concept Cafes Coffee https://www.conceptcafes.com Subscribe to Talk Toomey on YouTube for in-depth interviews with the most exciting artists in aggressive music, deep dives into iconic artists' discography, and more. #talktoomey #lifeofagony #coloringbook #beetlejuice #bassplayer

Send us a textGary Meskil is the founding member and driving force behind Pro-Pain, a prominent hardcore metal band that emerged in the early 1990s. Born in New York City, Meskil's early exposure to the thriving punk and hardcore scenes of the 1980s heavily influenced his musical direction. Prior to forming Pro-Pain, Meskil was a bassist for the hardcore band Crumbsuckers, which laid the foundation for his future endeavors in the heavy music genre. In 1991, Meskil founded Pro-Pain with the intention of creating a band that combined the aggression and intensity of hardcore punk with the heavy riffing and technical proficiency of metal. Pro-Pain's debut album, Foul Taste of Freedom, released in 1992, was a critical and commercial success within the underground music scene. The album's raw energy, socially conscious lyrics, and Meskil's powerful vocal delivery set the tone for the band's future releases.Pro-Pain quickly gained a reputation for their relentless touring schedule and ferocious live performances. Meskil's leadership and vision were central to the band's success, guiding them through numerous lineup changes while maintaining their core sound and message. The band's music often tackles themes of political and social issues, personal struggles, and resilience, resonating deeply with fans who appreciate the blend of hardcore urgency and metal precision.Over the years, Pro-Pain released a series of influential albums, including The Truth Hurts (1994), Contents Under Pressure (1996), and Act of God (1999). Each release showcased Meskil's growth as a songwriter and his ability to adapt to the evolving landscape of heavy music. The band's sound incorporated elements of groove metal, thrash, and even hints of melodic death metal, ensuring their relevance in a genre known for its rapid shifts and trends.Despite the challenges faced by many bands in maintaining longevity, Pro-Pain has remained a consistent force in the metal and hardcore scenes. Meskil's dedication to his craft and his refusal to compromise the band's integrity have earned Pro-Pain a loyal and passionate fanbase worldwide. The band's relentless work ethic and commitment to their message have solidified their place as one of the enduring acts in heavy music. In 2017, Meskil faced a significant personal challenge when he was brutally attacked and robbed in Belgium while on tour. The incident left him with serious injuries, but his resilience and determination shone through as he recovered and returned to the stage. This episode further highlighted Meskil's unwavering dedication to Pro-Pain and his indomitable spirit.Gary Meskil's impact on the metal and hardcore scenes through Pro-Pain iwww.BetterHelp.com/TheBarnhttp://www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn http://www.betterhelp.com/TheBarnThis episode is sponsored by www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn and brought to you as always by The Barn Media Group. Welcome to a somewhat experimental episode of the Resident Evil Podcast where the team looks back specifically at the original PSX trilogy and the influences in horror gaming that our beloved title drew from. This means an examination of some older horror titles that shaped the industry before Biohazard including Sweet Home, Alone in the Dark and Clock Tower with an analysis on what aspects worked to bring the scares in a low polygon era. We then discuss why Resident Evil was so special and despite perhaps not being the first "survival horror" title (albeit the game that coined the phrased), the OG trilogy in particular became the benchmark in jump scares, tension and cinematic gaming. The conversation then switches to the games that were influenced by Resident Evil - and boy are there many! From the obvious like Dino Crisis and Silent Hill, but also some obscure titles like Deep Fear and Run Like Hell that have really flown under the radar! In the news we also share our thoughts on the recent fan film - The Keeper's Diary and theBatman reveals the creation process for his recent REmake mythology! Musical credit to WackySB for the incredible remixed save room themes (https://tinyurl.com/ye2acphr) Enjoy!

This is First Aid Spray - a Resident Evil podcast by fans, for fans! We return to where it all (sort of) began with Biohazard prequel Resident Evil Zero! By being a story promising to deliver on mysteries from the first game, the final “classic” style Resi and a protracted development time, RE Zero should be a major part of the franchise. But is that so? What does it do well, amongst the otherwise disappointing? Is the soundtrack the best in class? Does this game have the worst villain in series history? And Psy loses her mind thanks to the nonsensical disconnect. In the news, Resident Evil returns to PC via GOG and Capcom give their first tease for what's next.
