Live at AAPEX 2022, we are in the studio with Malcolm Sissmore, VP of Sales and Marketing for Delphi Technologies. Malcolm discusses aftermarket solutions for the 65 million work trucks on the road in the United States. He also has a simple solution for contaminated fuel tanks. Delphi Technologies has designed a tool to remove metal particles in a fuel tank. Guess what, it is free to the aftermarket! Malcolm Sissmore, Vice President, Sales and Marketing, North America Independent Aftermarket, Delphi Product and Service Solutions. Malcolm's previous episodes HERE Key Talking Points Want a Delphi Fuel Tank Cleaning Tool? Delphi Technologies, a brand of BorgWarner, is offering free samples of their cleaning tool. Supplies are limited, so request one today by emailing: internalcommunications.aftermarket@borgwarner.com There are 65 million work trucks on the road in the United States and Canada- a lot of work trucks have been worked hard with the fleet during the past 2 years “All around the work truck” with Delphi Technologies Most fleets are less than four vehicles We often have to think about the aftermarket part of that. Is it going to be a rebuildable part? Is it gonna be a part that as intellectual property is not available to be sold in the aftermarket? How do we make sure that it's gonna be available when that vehicle comes out of warranty? The fuel being put in your gas tank today is different than it was 10 years ago Emission coil for Volkswagon- created a bent in the coil so that the pressure would come up and out and not unseat the coil Looking at the failure rates by product category. And starting to predict, what does that look like? 80% of the failures have been caused by contamination in the fuel tank. Delphi Technologies has designed a tool that is about 15 inches long and has a swiveling head on the end that has three magnets built into it. It has a replaceable cloth that you put on that. You take this tool, and you drop it straight down into the tank, and you push it around edge to edge, and if there are metal particles stuck to that magnet, your tank is contaminated Borg Warner purchased Delphi 2 years ago Fleet telematics Connect with the Podcast: Aftermarket Radio Network Subscribe on YouTube Visit us on the Web Follow on Facebook Become an Insider Buy me a coffee

Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Tuesday 5th October. It's a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too. Welcome to new PATREON PRODUCER JEREMY WARNER RECORD SHARE FOR WESTERN EUROPEAN EV REGISTRATIONS IN SEPTEMBER "The monthly share of new zero-emission BEV (Battery electric vehicle) passenger car registrations as a percentage of the total new car market achieved a new high in September. 15.3 per cent of all the new passenger cars entering West European roads during the closing month of the third quarter, were pure electric passenger cars, according to exclusive data published each month in Schmidt Automotive Research's in-depth monthly European Electric Car Data Trend Report." Matthias Schmidt writes: "Just under 136 thousand new pure electric cars entered the 18 market West European region monitored by the report each month. Despite volumes falling 30 thousand short of the all-time monthly volume high, recorded in December 2020, as passenger car manufacturers made a last-ditch attempt to meet newly phased-in CO2 fleet emission targets, achieving a 15.1 BEV per cent mix of the total market, the September BEV penetration of the 18-market region saw levels surpass that. A number of reasons impacted the new record in September, namely; the boost from Tesla's end of quarter volumes, achieving a monthly record of 34,000 units, or every fourth BEV – boosted by both the Model Y introduction and shipments from China – as well as the semiconductor situation deflating the total passenger car market." https://www.schmidtmatthias.de/post/western-european-zero-emission-passenger-car-registrations-achieved-a-new-record-share-in-september U.S. SALES UPDATES: ID.4, VOLVO, PORSCHE TAYCAN, MUSTANG MACH-E All from InsideEVs: "Volkswagen ID.4, sales improved slightly from 5,756 in Q2 to 6,049 in Q3, which probably will further increase over the next quarters. The ID.4 share out of the total Volkswagen sales was 7.6%. The company notes that its data indicates that more than two-thirds of ID.4 customers are switching from other brands." "The Volvo Recharge plug-in sub-brand accounted for about 18.2% of the total volume, which is about 1,700 units. In California, the share increased to a record high 52% so the company sells more plug-ins than non-plug-ins there. We estimate that the total plug-in volume in Q3 was 5,960. Volvo's Recharge lineup is currently comprised of a total of seven models, two all-electric (the C40 is coming soon) and five plug-in hybrids. By 2030, all Volvo models wiil become be completely electric. In 2022, the company plans to launch the electric successor of the XC90, based on the Scalable Product Architecture (SPA2), that will be produced in Ridgeville, South Carolina, together with the Polestar 3, also based on the SPA2." "The Taycan/Taycan Cross Turismo (all versions) sales increased marginally, by 0.2% year-over-year to 1,861, far behind the outstanding Q2 result, but enough to remain the third best selling Porsche model. The all-electric Porsche stands for nearly 12.2% of all Porsche sales during the period. Porsche's BEV lineup currently consists a total of nine Taycan/Taycan Cross Turismo versions:" "In the case of the Ford Mustang Mach-E, in September sales amounted to 1,578 (1.1% of Ford's total result) - below the monthly average so far this year. The total volume in the Q3 was 5,880. "Mustang Mach-E retail sales expanded 9.2 percent in September. With 18,855 Mach-Es sold through September, Mach-E ranks second in full electric SUV sales behind Tesla's Model Y. Over-the-air modem activation rates for Mach-E are the highest in Ford's portfolio at 97 percent." The gross stock of Mach-E is at about 5,000 in the U.S. (at dealerships and in transport, we assume). That's two times more than the 2,600 we noted in August." https://insideevs.com/news/538003/us-volkswagen-id4-sales-2021q3 https://insideevs.com/news/538106/us-volvo-recharge-sales-september2021 https://insideevs.com/news/538000/us-porsche-taycan-sales-2021q3 https://insideevs.com/news/538343/us-ford-mache-sales-2021q3/ 800 VOLT CHARGING GOING MAINSTREAM "Porsche designed the Taycan to also be compatible with the existing 400 V DC fast-charging infrastructure. The car comes with 50 kW capability as standard, with a 150 kW unit as an option GM, with its wide ranging product lineup is designing the Ultium modular electric powertrain so that it can underpin both 400 V and 800 V applications. So while most vehicles will initially have 400 V battery packs capable of fast-charging up to 200 kW, the larger truck platform on which the GMC Hummer is built, will support 800 V with a 350 kW fast-charging capability." says Electronics 360: "Another mainstream, high-volume brand already planning to implement the 800 V powernet is Hyundai. The recently announced Ioniq 5, based on the new and dedicated E-GMP EV platform, will have an 800 V architecture that can be charged at 232 kW. Confirming the growing interest in 800 V charging, power electronics suppliers Delphi Technologies and Hitachi have both developed 800 V inverters. Delphi claiming that it will be supplying its 800 V “Viper” inverter to three out of the top four global premium automakers by 2024." https://electronics360.globalspec.com/article/17190/will-800-v-charging-become-the-ev-industry-norm CITROEN SAYS IT HAS ALREADY TAKEN MORE THAN 1,000 ORDERS FOR AMI "With the fuel delivery crisis still rumbling on and petrol prices expected to rise by around 5p-a-litre in the coming days, more drivers are reportedly considering buying an electric vehicle. The latest EV due to hit the market next year is Citroen's diminutive Ami, which is as long as a standard UK parking space is wide and has a range of just 46 miles." according to thisismoney: "The French maker, having confirmed that it will sell the tiny battery model in Britain from 2022 just a fortnight ago, says it has already taken over 1,000 reservations online. A total of 1,130 pre-orders have been placed on the car company's UK website, which requires a £250 deposit that is refunded if the driver changes their mind. The Ami uses a 5.5kWh battery that recharges in three hours from a conventional domestic socket. This provides a top speed of just 28mph and a claimed range of 46 miles." https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/cars/article-10056649/Citroen-says-taken-1-000-orders-6-000-Ami-EV.html?utm_source=pocket_mylist VOLVO CARS IS COMPLETING PLANS FOR IPO IN STOCKHOLM "Volvo Cars, the Swedish auto maker owned by Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co. of China, is completing plans for an initial public offering and is set to announce details of the listing as early as Monday, in a deal that could value the car maker at as much as $25 billion, according to people familiar with the matter." says WSJ.com: "A listing, if it goes ahead, would represent one of the car industry's most dramatic turnarounds. Ford Motor Co. , weakened by the global financial crisis, sold the Swedish company to Geely for $1.8 billion in 2010." https://www.wsj.com/articles/volvo-cars-is-finalizing-plans-for-ipo-in-stockholm-11633283394 ELECTRIC CAR SALES COULD 'REDUCE ENERGY BILLS' FOR ALL UK CONSUMERS "ELECTRIC car sales could reduce energy bills for everyone across the UK, according to a new report from Ofgem. They have predicted a high number of electric cars could reduce costs for all bill payers, including non EV owners. They said EV's will allow the electricity network to work better which would then reduce average costs." writes the Express: "Ofgem said the market was currently trying to introduce products and services tailored specifically towards electric car owners. These EV tariffs offer cheaper rates overnight to encourage owners to charge their car at off-peak periods. However, they said energy supply was increasingly being bundled in with electric car services." “We believe that high numbers of EVs on the system could reduce total costs of energy for everyone, even non EV owners, particularly if [it] is the norm that EVs charge in ‘off-peak' hours, using smart charging. EV owners are expected to benefit from cheaper running costs of EVs compared to petrol or diesel vehicles, but non-EV owners will also benefit. This is because EVs will enable a better utilisation of the electricity network and generation assets, thereby reducing unit costs.” https://www.express.co.uk/life-style/cars/1500116/electric-cars-sales-energy-bills-savings-ofgem-report-uk GERMANY'S BMVI OPENS TENDER PROCESS FOR NATIONAL FAST-CHARGING NETWORK "Germany's Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) opened the tender process for the national fast-charging network: Deutschlandnetz. Companies and company consortia can compete for the bid to set up and operate around 900 fast-charging locations throughout Germany. (Earlier post.)" says Green Car Congres: "The Germany network is intended to ensure the basic supply with fast charging infrastructure in medium and long-haul traffic with around 8,000 additional fast charging points. It complements the already existing large fast-charging locations and thus ensures a nationwide and needs-based fast-charging infrastructure throughout Germany. In a second tender, the construction and operation of around 200 fast-charging locations at unmanaged rest areas on the federal motorways will be tendered. The tendering of the nationwide motorway lots will be carried out in autumn by the Autobahn GmbH." https://www.greencarcongress.com/2021/10/20211004-bmvi.html HUMMER EV DRIVEN BY TOM MOLOUGHNEY https://insideevs.com/reviews/538170/hummer-ev-first-drive-review/ 80 ACTIVISTS BLOCK SHELL'S PORT TO PROTEST AGAINST ‘GREENWASHING' ADVERTS https://www.euronews.com/green/2021/10/04/climate-ngos-launch-campaign-to-ban-fossil-fuel-adverts-in-the-eu NEW QUESTION OF THE WEEK WITH EMOBILITYNORWAY.COM Returns on Sunday 10th October!
