Traditional tools are adequate for many collection development scenarios, but the increasing variety of acquisitions models, combined with entrenched budgetary challenges, present the need for new methods and inventive thinking. Enter the rubric! If you thought rubrics were stuffy or excessive, or only used to grade college essays, it's time to take another look. Rubrics are not only instruments of collection analysis, but informative objects that help guide their own values and philosophies in their collection's practices. These four librarians from the George A. Smathers Libraries at the University of Florida have been exploring the use of rubrics for collection development. They'll share two rubrics currently in use. One designed for open access investments and another for monograph purchasing decisions. A New Approach to Building Community Wealth Introduction   In many leftist circles, the term "wealth building" can trigger skepticism. It often brings to mind the language of neoliberal capitalism, where wealth creation is synonymous with the exploitation of labor and the concentration of resources in the hands of the few. With wealth inequality reaching historic highs, housing costs soaring beyond reach for many, and environmental devastation rampant due to the unbridled market forces of capital, should we rethink how we approach wealth? The concept of "community wealth building" offers an alternative rooted in collective ownership and control, challenging the individualist, competitive frameworks of traditional wealth accumulation.   Community wealth building seeks to empower workers and communities through cooperative models of enterprise, public ownership, and socially controlled financial institutions. It challenges the logic of capital by redistributing economic power from corporations and financial elites to the people. As Colin Bruce Anthes argues in his article "Canada Needs A Federal Community Wealth Building Agenda" for Canadian Dimension, this model represents a radical departure from the status quo, positioning economic justice as the foundation of democratic life. This is a really serious issue that should be considered ahead of starting an agonist in these patients.” TS 12:39 “I don't think we'll see any dramatic changes in treating breast cancer, since the role of these agents is a lot more limited and simply really exist to suppress estrogen and premenopausal patients. A breakthrough way of producing hydrocarbons, crucial to the aviation industry, could reduce costs and accelerate decarbonisation.Sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) is a key component in the aviation industry's path to decarbonization, which contributes to only 2% of global carbon emissions but is actively seeking cleaner solutions. Airbus and other aerospace companies are leading the charge, with Airbus integrating over 11 million litres of SAF in its operations in 2023, reducing carbon emissions significantly. The industry aims to increase SAF production to 17.5 billion litres by 2030, supported by initiatives like the IRA. On this episode of Wood Mackenzie's The Interchange Recharged, David Banmiller speaks with Andrew Symes, founder and CEO of OXCCU. They're developing a more efficient way of converting CO2 and hydrogen into hydrocarbons, potentially a monumental step towards more scalable and environmentally-friendly fuels. Despite technological advancements, challenges in financing, regulatory support, and talent acquisition persist. SAF's integration with existing aviation infrastructure without the need for modifications is one key benefit; it could create a smoother transition to greener aviation, with expectations for SAF to achieve cost parity with Jet A fuel (the current standard) as technology and scale improve. The SAF industry enjoys broad support from airlines, governments, and regulatory initiatives, who are pushing for increased SAF adoption towards a net-zero future by 2050.
