We did something nuts: we got 50+ founders to reveal their net worth, portfolios, income, expenses. Its free and right here: https://joinhampton.com/mw-wrWhy this podcast exists:Hampton is a community for founders. Members do an ave of $20m/year in revenue.Tons of the convos within the community are about money: how to invest, how to spend, how much to pay yourself...all this stuff you can't Google. We thought "Let's just make these convos public". And thus, this podcast Moneywise came to be.We publish weekly. Click the subscribe button and the goodness will be delivered. Also...we've done 100+ episodes. If you want the aggregate info of all the numbers, meaning the net worth, spending, income of 50+ founders ranging from $10m to $1 billion: https://joinhampton.com/mw-wrOk, so let's talk David Royce, today's guest:He built the same pest control company four times — $13M, $30M, $135M, $1.5B — and says the first exit was the most life-changing.David Royce sold four pest control companies — Moxie, Eco First, Altera, and Aptiv — each bigger than the last, culminating in a $1.5B sale of Aptiv when it was doing $508M in annual revenue. He kept 100% equity through the first three, gave 25% of the last one to his employees, and personally walked away with hundreds of millions across the run. He's now on an indefinite sabbatical, investing through Iconic (the firm that manages Zuckerberg's and Dorsey's money), with half his net worth in S&P 500 and the rest in private equity, direct deals, and alternatives — including multiple Anthropic investments. This episode covers the exact mechanics of each asset-sale exit, why David kept restarting instead of holding, his full portfolio framework (including the 4-year cash buffer strategy), the "the answer is just a little more" moment that hit every entrepreneur in the room, and the story of flying his dying father on a private jet from a New Orleans hospital to Cedars-Sinai at 2am — made possible only by one call to a CEO WhatsApp chain.Timestamps:00:01:39 — David's full intro: four companies, four exits, what actually happened with the money01:55 — First company (Moxie): nearly went bankrupt the first year, how a cash flow crisis taught him "cash was king"03:14 — The asset-sale strategy: selling customers and technicians to Terminix while keeping the sales operation04:57 — "Pretty close" — David confirms Forbes' reported $13M and $30M exit figures05:37 — Why he gave 25% of Aptiv to employees and stepped back as chairman06:23 — Aptiv was doing $508M in revenue; Daniel and David settle on $1.5B as the sale range07:13 — What he actually took home: cap gains, California taxes, "hundreds of millions"08:37 — Net worth today: "do the math backwards and figure it out"09:09 — Portfolio breakdown: 4-year cash buffer in fixed income, S&P 500 with tax-loss harvesting, alternatives11:31 — "I just invested in Anthropic — three different times in the last year and a half" via Iconic14:35 — "The one that was life-changing was the first one" — $13M from nothing hits differently than $1.5B17:46 — Why pest control? On this episode of Escaping the Drift, we sit down with David Royce: founder of Aptiv, EY National Entrepreneur of the Year, and the man who turned a college summer job spraying for bugs into a nine figure exit to private equity. Before selling Aptiv for a number that made hundreds of his employees six and seven figure earners, David was a broke BYU finance student who sold zero pest control contracts in his first five days on the job. He went to a bookstore, bought half a dozen sales classics from Zig Ziglar to Brian Tracy, committed to 90 minutes of reading a day, and finished that summer as the top rookie in the entire company. In this episode, David opens up about the moment his boss casually mentioned selling his pest control business to Terminex for 10 million dollars, the ego he had to swallow to walk away from a Wall Street M&A career, and the white collar approach to a blue collar industry that built one of the fastest growing service companies in America. We dive into why the secret about unsexy industries is they have sexy margins, the Wall Street Journal data showing 43% of the top 0.1% of earners own boring businesses, and why door to door still grows companies seven to ten times faster than digital marketing. He breaks down the surgical software his team built to knock the right neighborhoods, the customization touches that separated Aptiv from every other pest control company, and why he gave 25% of the company away to his managers on the way out.If you have ever sat in a white collar job wondering what AI is about to do to your career, this conversation will hand you the playbook the wealthy have been quietly running for decades.

Aptiv makes a clear distinction between “intelligent mobility” and “autonomous drive.” It's easy to see how the two terms can be used interchangeably, but Aptiv is applying the former to many platforms that are not automobiles. And because of the company's experience in the automotive space, it can do so in a big way. To understand the difference between the two terms and the impact that Aptiv can have in this space, I spoke to Deepali Trehan, Aptiv's Senior VP and Chief Product Officer, on this week's Embedded Executives podcast.

David Royce is a four-time founder and serial entrepreneur who has quietly built an empire in “unsexy” home services. Starting as a broke college kid who was terrible at sales, he turned door-to-door pest control into a personal masterclass—eventually founding and exiting multiple companies for a combined enterprise value approaching $200 million in his 30s, and later scaling Aptiv Environmental to over $500 million in annual revenue and 6,500 employees across 5,000 cities. He's an expert at creating powerful sales engines, leveraging door-to-door in overlooked industries, and structuring exits so he can keep the “golden goose” that drives growth. On this episode we talk about: How David went from broke college student to top rookie in door-to-door pest control sales in a single summer Why door-to-door sales is still one of the best training grounds for future entrepreneurs The strategy behind building four pest control companies and repeatedly selling the “book of business” while keeping the sales engine How he used culture, training, and transparent data to massively outperform competing sales programs Smart compensation structures and retention tactics for commission-based sales teams Why he finally exited Aptiv in 2025 and what he's thinking about for his “post-money” chapter The massive opportunity in blue-collar businesses and what excites him about AI and the coming “silver tsunami” Top 3 Takeaways You don't have to be naturally gifted at sales to win; stubbornness, daily learning, and high-volume reps can turn you from zero deals in your first week into the top rookie in the company. The real asset isn't just the customers—it's the growth engine. If you keep the sales systems, leadership, and culture in-house, you can sell the book of business, reload with capital, and build again on the same foundation. Culture perks get people in the door, but elite training, clear data, and a high-performance environment are what actually keep great sales reps and drive outsized results over time. Notable Quotes “You can be killing it and dying at the same time if you don't understand cash flow.” “We'd sell the customers, but we'd never sell the growth engine. We kept the golden goose.” “Door to door is one of the best educations you can give yourself—especially in a world where AI will automate so much. Those soft skills are going to win.” Connect with David Royce: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/david-royce-22539425/ Other (Recruiting / Opportunities): https://www.aptiverecruiting.com/ Travis Makes Money is made possible by High Level – the All-In-One Sales & Marketing Platform built for agencies, by an agency. When we talk about cybersecurity, it's often easy to think in terms of firewalls, passwords, and high-profile breaches. But what happens when the vulnerability isn't within your own systems but somewhere deep in your third or fourth-tier supply chain? In this episode, I spoke with Ben Edwards from Bitsight about the unseen infrastructure propping up much of the global digital economy and the new risks emerging from it. Our conversation begins by challenging the assumption that larger technology providers are automatically safer. Bitsight's research reveals that scale often introduces complexity and a larger attack surface, which can make it even harder to stay secure. In fact, UK supply chains are now around 10 percent larger than the global average, reflecting a more advanced digital economy but also introducing more room for hidden weaknesses. One of the most sobering parts of the discussion focused on geopolitics. Around 30 percent of UK and US supply chains rely on Chinese military-linked companies like Huawei and China Telecom. That's not just a cybersecurity concern. It's a geopolitical time bomb. Ben broke down the ripple effects that potential restrictions or bans could have, including costs, infrastructure overhauls, and widespread operational disruption. Then there are the “hidden pillars,” smaller vendors like Aptiv and Yardi, which may not be household names but play disproportionately influential roles in sectors like aerospace, education, and real estate. Their obscurity makes them dangerous single points of failure, especially when regional dependencies form without anyone noticing. The bottom line? End-to-end supply chain visibility remains elusive. Shadow IT, employee workarounds, and a constantly shifting tech landscape mean organizations must approach cybersecurity as an ongoing process, not a checklist. Ben urges companies to continually assess the criticality of their providers and, just as importantly, understand their own role in others' ecosystems. If you're curious about how internet balkanization, AI, and outsourcing are shaping the next phase of cybersecurity strategy, this episode will give you a lot to think about. Y

Global Agile Summit Preview: How to Measure and Visualize Software Improvement for Actionable Results with Mooly Beeri In this BONUS Global Agile Summit preview episode, we explore how to effectively measure and visualize the continuous improvement journey in technology organizations. Mooly Beeri shares his data-driven approach that helps software teams identify where to focus their improvement efforts and how to quantify their progress over time. We discuss practical examples from major organizations like Philips and Aptiv, revealing how visualization creates an internal language of improvement that empowers teams while giving leadership the insights needed to make strategic decisions. Visualizing Software Development Effectiveness "We visualize the entire SDLC end-to-end. All the aspects... we have a grading of each step in the SDLC. It starts with a focus on understanding what needs to be done better." Mooly shares how his approach at Philips helped create visibility across a diverse organization built from numerous acquisitions with different technologies and development cultures. The challenge was helping management understand the status of software craftsmanship across the company. His solution was developing a heat map visualization that examines the entire software development lifecycle (SDLC) - from requirements gathering through deployment and support - with an effectiveness index for each stage. This creates an at-a-glance view where management can quickly identify which teams need support in specific areas like automation, code reviews, or CI/CD processes. This visualization becomes a powerful internal language for improvement discussions, allowing focused investment decisions instead of relying on intuition or which team has the most persuasive argument. The framework creates alignment while empowering teams to determine their own improvement paths. Measuring What Matters: The Code Review Example "We often hear 'we have to do code reviews, of course we do them,' but when we talk about 'how well are they done?', the answer comes 'I don't know, we haven't measured it.'" When one team wanted to double the time invested in code reviews based on conference recommendations, Mooly helped them develop a meaningful measurement approach. They created the concept of "code review escapes" - defects that could have been caught with better code reviews but weren't. By gathering the team to evaluate a sample of defects after each iteration, they could calculate what percentage "escaped" the code review process. This measurement allowed the team to determine if doubling review time actually improved outcomes. If the escape rate remained at 30%, the investment wasn't helping. If it dropped to 20%, they could calculate a benefit ratio. This approach has been expanded to measure "escapes" in requirements, design, architecture, and other SDLC phases, enabling teams to consciously decide where improvement efforts would yield the greatest returns. Balancing Team Autonomy with Organizational Alignment "Our model focuses on giving teams many options on how to improve, not just one like from top-down improvements. We want to focus the teams on improving on what matters the most." Mooly contrasts his approach with traditional top-down improvement mandates, sharing a story from Microsoft where a VP mandated increasing unit test coverage from 70% to 80% across all teams regardless of their specific needs. Instead, his framework agrees on an overall definition of effectiveness while giving teams flexibility to choose their improvement path. Like athletes at different fitness levels, teams with lower effectiveness have many paths to improvement, while high-performing teams have fewer options. This creates a win-win scenario where teams define their own improvement strategy based on their context, while management can still see quantifiable progress in overall organizational effectiveness. Adapting to Different Industry Contexts "TIP: Keep the model of evaluation flexible enough to adapt to a team's context." While working across healthcare, automotive, and other industries, Mooly found that despite surface differences, all software teams face similar fundamental challenges throughout the development lifecycle. His effectiveness framework was born in the diverse Philips environment, where teams built everything from espresso machine firmware to hospital management systems and MRI scanners. The framework maintains flexibility by letting teams define what's critical in their specific context. For example, when measuring dynamic analysis, teams define which runtime components are most important to monitor. For teams releasing once every four years (like medical equipment), continuous integration means something very different than for teams deploying daily updates. The framework adapts to these realities while still providing meaningful measurements. Taking the First Step Toward Measured Improvement "Try to quantify the investment, by defining where to improve by how much. We encourage the team to measure effectiveness of whatever the practices are they need to improve." For leaders looking to implement a more measured approach to improvement, Mooly recommends starting by focusing teams on one simple question: how will we know if our improvement efforts are actually working? Rather than following trends or implementing changes without feedback mechanisms, establish concrete metrics that demonstrate progress and help calculate return on investment. The key insight is that most teams already value continuous improvement but struggle with prioritization and knowing when they've invested enough in one area. By creating a quantifiable framework, teams can make more conscious decisions about where to focus their limited improvement resources and demonstrate their progress to leadership in a language everyone understands. Teen-Turn, an EU wide digital impact organisation of the year, connects girls from underrepresented communities with women who are STEM role models at Ireland's leading companies for summer work placements called "Teenturnships" in order to tackle the deficit of young women in STEM. This year, Teen-Turn's program commenced with 81 girls being introduced to their mentors. These mentors are accomplished women who are STEM professionals, including engineers, data scientists, cybersecurity and AI specialists, and senior managers from prominent companies such as Dell, BNY Mellon, Hostelworld, BD, Aptiv, Bearing Point, and Trane Technologies Thermoking. The participating girls, from DEIS (Delivering Equality of Opportunity in Schools), rural, and underserved schools across Ireland, will engage in a two-week immersive experience in August. During this period, they will work on STEM projects under the guidance of their women-in-STEM mentors, gaining firsthand experience. Teen-Turn believes that more girls, from areas where third level education is uncommon, exploring and gaining an interest in STEM will lead to more women earning STEM qualifications, therefore meeting a demand for skills that is outpacing supply. Throughout the program, participants will learn from their mentors and engage in various activities each workday. Additionally, they will document and share their experiences through blogging, providing insights into their journey and the impact of the program.

We recently chatted with Deepak Chaudhari, Country Head of TCS Ireland, to find out more about their business, their operations in Ireland and their future plans. Tell us about Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and your business? Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is an IT services, consulting and business solutions organisation that has been partnering with many of the world's largest businesses in their transformation journeys for over 55 years. A part of the Tata group, India's largest multinational business group, TCS has over 600,000 of the world's best-trained consultants in 55 countries. Earlier this year, we were rated as the second most valuable IT services brand in the world in the 2024 Global 500 IT services Ranking by Brand Finance. Our overall mission and goal at TCS is to become the number one IT services and consulting brand worldwide and the partner of choice for large enterprises in their 'growth and transformation' journey. Has TCS a strong presence in Ireland? Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has been operating in Ireland for over 20 years with a track record of sustained investment in the country. Today the TCS Ireland business employs over 1,000 people and is one of the largest employers in the North-West of Ireland, where we have established a Global Delivery Centre, in Letterkenny. TCS in Ireland provides business, digital and technology services, supporting local Irish companies, global companies that have a presence in Ireland and customers based internationally. What clients do you work with? TCS Ireland proactively draws on the experience, IP, and track record it has gained internationally which it can bring to local projects. With over 30 customers in Ireland today, TCS counts indigenous organisations such as ESB, Eirgrid, Aer Lingus, Bank of Ireland, Aptiv and multinationals such as Aviva, AIG, Ericsson, Citibank among its key clients. We are growing our customer base being serviced from Ireland and recently partnered with the newly established business, AIB life and Nest, the UK's largest workplace pension scheme, on two significant new digital and cloud-based administration platform solutions. The TCS customer base operates across key industries like financial services, insurance, retail, manufacturing, life sciences and public sector. The company's offerings cover the length and breadth of business and technology services from consulting to transformation initiatives, cloud solutions, blockchain, cyber security and cognitive business operations. Tell us about some of your most recent innovative client wins to date? TCS was selected as the strategic partner for AIB life, the newly formed joint venture between Allied Irish Banks plc and Great-West Lifeco, to help build and launch a digital first, full-service life company for the Irish market. TCS helped create a modern, cloud-based technology stack ground up, with our flagship insurance platform TCS BaNCS at the core that gives AIB's 3.2 million customers the ability to access financial advice and a range of integrated AIB life protection, pensions, and investment products in their branch, by phone and via the AIB mobile banking app. The solution also integrates with AIB's nationwide network of 120 financial advisors from whom customers can seek financial guidance. In addition to designing and deploying the enabling technology stack, TCS is also providing IT, customer, and claims handling services for AIB life in a managed insurance services model. The end-to-end policy administration services will be provided from the TCS Global Delivery Centre in Letterkenny, Co. Donegal. Recently, AIB Life was awarded the prestigious global Celent Model Insurer Award in the category of 'Digital and Emerging Technologies'. The award was very much based around AIB life's ability to demonstrate extraordinary results for best practice in technology usage. In this episode, I'm in conversation with Serge Guzenko, Founder and CEO of Wezom, about custom code. With over 24 years of experience in the industry, Serge has led WEZOM to become an international IT company known for its innovative solutions and client-centric approach in developing custom code. Wezom is a global custom code business. I'm really interested in this niche and critical role of custom software development, particularly within the oil and gas industry. I start by asking Serge to explain the unique advantages of custom software. It's not obvious to oil and gas professionals, who view their businesses as generally undifferentiated, why they might value the flexibility and features that address the unique needs of the oil and gas sector. Custom solutions can be tailored to enhance operational efficiency, integrate with existing systems, and handle complex data management tasks that generic software often cannot. The discussion highlights several key factors to consider when opting for custom software, such as the specific operational needs of the company, unique requirements, and cost effectiveness. Serge points out areas within this sector that particularly benefit from custom solutions. We talk through cost of delivery, the need for ongoing maintenance, and the availability of skilled developers familiar with the industry's nuances. Looking forward, Serges shares his view of the future of custom software development, featuring increased integration of AI tools that can further enhance the capabilities and efficiency of custom solutions. AI's role in supporting coding work is only just starting. This episode not only highlights the persistent relevance of custom software development in a world dominated by generic ERP solutions but also illustrates its strategic importance in industries where customization can lead to significant competitive advantages and operational improvements. Serge is deeply passionate about his work and is dedicated to delivering exceptional results for his clients. Throughout his career, Serge has demonstrated strong leadership skills, overseeing a team of over 250 employees and delivering more than 1000 IT solutions for companies, enterprises, startups, and government entities. Wezom worked with projects of such companies as Metinvest, Aptiv, CooperHunter, and JohnDeer. Additional Tools & Resources:

To be fair, it's one of the riskier ideas on this list, with shares losing 13% year-to-date… Air Products and Chemicals also carries a moderate buy view with a $272 price target, implying 15% upside potential. If you want a potentially discounted opportunity among socially responsible stocks, this might be it. 5) Mondelez (NASDAQ:MDLZ) A multinational confectionary, food, beverage and snack company, offers everyday relevance for investors and consumers. And if the economy gets a bit wobbly, Mondelez should rise as a beneficiary of the trade-down effect. Notably, Mondelez ranked as number 15 on IDB's top ESG list… Experts rate Mondelez a strong buy with an $83.47 price target. 6) Bunge (NYSE:BG) A critically important name among socially responsible stocks, Bunge operates as an agribusiness and food company worldwide. It conducts operations through four segments: Agribusiness, Refined and Specialty Oils, Milling and Sugar and Bioenergy. On IDB's ESG list, Bunge came in at number 11… Analysts are optimistic with Bunge's chart performance, rating it a moderate buy with a $115.30 target. That implies more than 16% growth potential. 7) Adobe (NASDAQ:ADBE) Another top-tier technology enterprise, Adobe is a software giant. It's perhaps best known for its Photoshop program and other products aimed at the creatives community. Because of the rise of the gig economy, Adobe could be more important than many people realize. As for its inclusion as one of the socially responsible stocks, Adobe ranked as number 14 in IBD's top ESG list… Analysts rate Adobe a moderate buy with a $620.63 target, implying over 24% upside potential.” End quotes. ------------------------------------------------------------- Benefits of Sustainable Investing and 3 Companies Paving the Way! This next article comes from a site I haven't seen before – techbullion.com. Its author, Adriaan Brits, offers some good insights backing his stock picks. It's titled Benefits of Sustainable Investing and 3 Companies Paving the Way! Here's some of what Mr. Brits says about his picks. “1) AGCO: Advancing Agricultural Sustainability  AGCO, an American agricultural machinery manufacturer, has emerged as a compelling option for sustainable investing. AGCO integrates sustainability into its core business strategy, emphasizing innovation and technology to make agriculture more efficient, productive, and environmentally friendly.  2) ICL Group: Promoting Sustainable Agriculture and Nutrition  ICL Group, a leading global specialty minerals company, and one of the largest fertilizer manufacturers in the world, offers another attractive opportunity for sustainable investment. ICL's operations center around producing a sustainable food supply, focusing on soil health, plant nutrition, and food quality.  3) John Deere: Pioneering Precision Agriculture  John Deere, a familiar name in agricultural machinery, has been pushing boundaries to make farming sustainable and efficient. The company's focus on innovations to improve machinery efficiency and promote agriculture makes it a promising prospect for sustainable investors.” End quotes. ------------------------------------------------------------- Why I Keep Loading Up on These High-Yielding, Renewable-Energy Dividend Stocks Lastly, is another article by an analyst who is frequently covered in these podcasts: Matt DiLallo at The Motley Fool. This article is titled Why I Keep Loading Up on These High-Yielding, Renewable-Energy Dividend Stocks and it's seen on finance.yahoo.com. Quotes… “The transition to renewable energy is one of the biggest investment megatrends of our lifetime. Over the coming decades, the world needs to invest trillions of dollars to decarbonize the economy. That should power above-average growth for companies focused on those sectors in years to come. I want to cash in on this megatrend. That's why I've been loading up on renewable-energy stocks. I recently bought a few more shares of NextEra Energy Partners and Brookfield Renewable. Here's why I believe they could generate powerful total returns over the long term. 1) NextEra Energy Partners (NYSE: NEP)  NextEra Energy Partners has hit a speed bump in recent years. Surging interest rates have driven up its cost of capital. Not only have borrowing costs risen, but its stock price has lost nearly 70% of its value from the peak in early 2022, driving its dividend yield up to 13%. That has made it more difficult to secure new funding at an attractive rate to refinance existing financing as it matures and obtain new capital for acquisitions. Because of that, the company has had to alter its strategy… If NextEra Energy can execute its plan, it could produce powerful total returns. It would pay a very lucrative and growing dividend. On top of that, it has significant stock-price appreciation potential as its share price recovers. While there's a high risk of a dividend cut due to its high payout ratio, a reduction could accelerate its recovery by enabling it to retain more cash to fund growth and strengthen its balance sheet. This high upside potential is why I continue loading up on its stock. 2) Brookfield Renewable (NYSE: BEPC)(NYSE: BEP) Brookfield Renewable has gotten caught up in the growth concerns weighing on NextEra Energy Partners. Its shares are more than 55% below their high in 2022. That pushed its dividend yield up over 6%. However, its issues were more a matter of timing than problems with financing. The company grew its funds from operations by 7% per share last year despite rising rates and supply chain issues. That was slightly below its target of 10%, largely due to later-than-expected transaction closings in the fourth quarter. It also had one that didn't close because shareholders voted against the deal… Brookfield's dividend income and earnings growth alone could power total annual returns in the mid-teens from here. Add in a recovery in its stock price, and the upside potential is even more significant.” End quotes. ------------------------------------------------------------- One Other Honorable Mention 1) Title: Strong Buy Renewable Energy Stocks to Add to Your Q2 Must-Watch List on investorplace.com. Olaf Sakkers joins to discuss the purpose of mobility and transportation, the challenges of the current system, and the potential for a more efficient trip economy. Takeaways The purpose of transportation is to connect cities and enable economic growth. The current transportation system in the US is underperforming and has negative externalities, such as high rates of car accidents and wasted time in traffic. The trip economy, characterized by shared mobility services, offers more efficient and convenient transportation options. Efforts to improve the transportation system should focus on removing parking minimums, incentivizing better choices, and transitioning to autonomous vehicles. Creating positive change in transportation requires recognizing the flaws in the system, engaging in constructive conversations, and building companies that offer innovative solutions. Akshay Jaising, VP of Commercialization, Motional joined Grayson Brulte on The Road to Autonomy podcast to discuss Motional's commercialization strategy and how Motional is scaling robotaxi operations in multiple cities. The conversation begins with Akshay discussing Motional's commercialization strategy. We have taken a very partner centric approach. We want to focus on what we do best, which is building the autonomy stack and then partners with players in the ecosystem to make robotaxis a reality. – Akshay JaisingSince 2022, Motional has had a partnership with Uber. Beginning with autonomous Uber Eats deliveries in Santa Monica, CA, the partnership has since evolved into a 10-year multi-market deal where consumers will be able to order a ride in one of Motional's all-electric IONIQ 5 robotaxis. This will be the largest deployment of autonomous vehicles on a ride-haling platform. Las Vegas will be the launch city followed by Los Angeles. With the expansion into Los Angeles, Motional will be operating in the 2nd largest city in the United States. Los Angeles is a diverse region that has an interest in alternative transportation modes. Anything to reduce the amount of time sitting in stop and go traffic while having to pay attention becomes a win for the millions of individuals who call Los Angeles home. We feel it's a pretty critical market that has shown customer acceptance for ride-hailing. Our initial pilots and tests in Los Angeles with Uber Eats have been extremely promising and well received. It's a really strong proving ground to demonstrate how this technology could scale and solve very critical transportation challenges. – Akshay JaisingAs Motional and the autonomous vehicle industry as a whole begins to scale and commercialize, attention is starting to turn from the technology to the economics of the business. Do the unit economics make sense and can the business operate profitability? These are big questions that will have to be answered. In order to answer these questions, AV companies will need long-term patient capital and this exactly what Motional has with Aptiv and Hyundai. In addition to Motional's access to long-term patient capital, the company through the Aptiv/Hyundai joint-venture is currently having robotaxis built to automotive grade standards on the line. A factory-built autonomous vehicle is scalable. With over 130,000 autonomous vehicle rides completed to date, Motional is preparing to further scale in Las Vegas and fully commercialize the service. One of the main advantages to scaling in Las Vegas is that individuals arrive in Vegas and stay on average for 72 hours. When they are there, they gamble and enjoy all of the experiences that Vegas has to offer. They come flush with cash and open mind to trying to new experiences.Creating the perfect opportunity to scale a profitable autonomous vehicle company as riding in an AV for the first time is an experience. Adding to the experience element, by the end of the year, Motional is planning to operate fully driverless in Las Vegas. Queue up the TikTok and Instagram posts. Another defining moment will be Super Bowl 58 which will be taking place in Las Vegas. With 325,000 visitors expected to attend the Vegas Super Bowl, Motional is actively preparing driverless operations which will be operating during Super Bowl Week.We do expect to have driverless vehicles on the road in February 2024 when Super Bowl 58 will be there, and we are excited about that. – Akshay JaisingAs Motional scales operations in multiple cities including Las Vegas and Los Angeles, Motional will be taking a hybrid approach when it comes to drop-off and pick-up zones. The company will utilize zones when they are available and at times they are not, the robotaxis will integrate into the normal traffic patterns. Wrapping up the conversation, Akshay discusses how Motional will roll-out service in each market from an economic standpoint.Follow The Road To Autonomy on Apple PodcastsFollow The Road To Autonomy on LinkedInFollow The Road To Autonomy on TwitterRecorded on Tuesday, February 21, 2023See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

LOTUS ELETRE OPENS A NEW FRONT IN ELECTRIC SUVS - the new era of Lotus as an EV maker begins with this, the Eletre. It takes elements we've seen on the Evija battery-electric hypercar and Emira ICE sports car, wraps them in a larger package, jacks them up, and throws in a lot of new tech for the brand and the market. - The Eletre is 201 inches long on a 118.9-inch wheelbase, about 79 inches wide, and 64 inches high. Every one of those dimensions puts the Lotus within a couple of inches of the Aston Martin DBX - All we're told is the pack is more than 100 kWh and output starts at 600 horsepower. Every Eletre is all-wheel-drive, with a motor on each axle. - The 800-volt electrical architecture can handle up to 350-kW fast-charging, 20 minutes at a station at that charge rate restoring 248 WLTP miles of the Eletre's estimated 373-mile range in WLTP testing. 62 miles per hour in under 3 seconds and hit a top speed of 161 mph. - The electronic side mirror housings each contain three cameras, one camera for the rear views, one to help stitch a 360-degree overhead view, and one to help enable self-driving. - A slim gauge cluster and a head-up display provides the driver with relevant info, front passengers get a similar slim display that can display infotainment options. Between them, a 15.1-inch infotainment touchscreen that lays flat when not in use. Active ride height and active anti-roll bars, along with rear-wheel steering and torque vectoring will be available as options on the Eletre, along with 23-inch alloy wheels - Four different drive modes—Range, Tour, Sport and Off-Road—adjust steering and accelerator pedal response, along with damping rates and powertrain output. And Individual mode will allow drivers to mix and match some settings to suit their personal driving styles. - The four LIDAR units, one at the top of the windshield, one at the top of the backlight, and one on each front fender, are hidden when not in use, thus preserving the Eletre's svelte appearance. - For context, the Eletre has 2.1 inches more space between the axles than a Tesla Model X and is 2.6 inches longer overall and 0.8 inches lower. This is not a small Lotus. - The rear is dominated two large vents that are bridged by a thin light bar, and a roof spoiler system that comprises two carbon fibre winglets cantilevered from the roof cant rails. The winglets function just like a conventional, full-width roof spoiler, guiding airflow down the backlight and on to a spoiler that deploys out of the tailgate at speed. Original Source : https://www.motortrend.com/news/2025-lotus-eletre-first-look-review/ LOTUS' ALL-ELECTRIC ELETRE SUV HAS A GRILL THAT 'BREATHES' - SUVs are entirely new to Lotus. Even long after Bentley and Porsche brushed aside tradition and released their own first SUVs, Lotus remained a sports-car-only company. With SUVs becoming the dominant passenger vehicle type, it may have been inevitable that Lotus would eventually throw its hat into the ring. As might be expected, Lotus brought a lot of its old sports car tricks into the design and manufacturing of the Eletre. - Lotus says the Eletre features “extensive” use of carbon fiber and aluminum to keep the (still undisclosed) weight down. The exterior body panels are aluminum, and all the black exterior trim pieces, such as the wheel arches, rear spoiler, and side-view mirrors, are carbon fiber. Hard interior trim pieces are also carbon fiber, and the seats are wrapped in a wool-blend fabric that, according to Lotus, is 50 percent lighter than typical leather seating. - An active front grill comprises interconnected triangular panels which stay closed when the Eletre is stopped or when it needs to reduce aerodynamic drag and automatically open to scoop air to the radiator to cool the electric motors, battery pack, or front brakes when needed. During this locking and unlocking sequence, the active grill “breathes” as the illuminated flush-fitting door handles deploy, opening and closing the vented panels. According to Kyle Conner, the weather was perfect, maybe beside from some wind during part of the test. The result is a pretty solid 254 miles (409 km), including the few last miles covered around the fast charging station at lower speeds. - For reference, the EPA Combined range is 274 miles (441 km), Original Source : https://insideevs.com/news/576754/kia-ev6-awd-70mph-range/ TESLA GIGA BERLIN-MADE MODEL YS ARE DELIVERED TO MANNHEIM, GERMANY - Giga Berlin-made Model Ys have been delivered to Mannheim, Germany. BUY AN ELECTRIC VAN AND SAVE 25% ON RUNNING COSTS, ENVIRONMENTAL GROUP SAYS - The average electric van in Europe is 25 per cent cheaper to own and operate over its lifetime than the diesel equivalent, despite much higher upfront costs for zero-emission models, according to the environmental campaign group Transport and Environment (T&E). - In a new study covering six countries - France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain and the United Kingdom - which account for 76 per cent of the European van market, T&E found an electric van costs €0.15 per kilometre to run, compared to €0.20 for a diesel van. - Even when excluding government subsidies on the purchase of electric vehicles, T&E found electric vans were still cheaper overall in five of the six countries, while in Germany the cost was the same. Electric vehicle owner Max Wilkinson - who is also a Cheltenham Councillor - recently bought a four-year-old hybrid Mini Countryman. He went home - but returned two hours later by which time the hybrid Mini was about half-charged. A week later Max received a penalty notice saying he'd been fined £90. Mr Wilkinson has paid the fine and doesn't dispute it. But he does think it doesn't quite make sense to restrict car charging to 90 minutes as well. - He said: “It seems illogical that quite a lot of EV and hybrid owners won't be allowed to spend enough time in the car park to get a full charge.” Email me any feedback to: hello@evnewsdaily.com It would mean a lot if you could take 2mins to leave a quick review on whichever platform you download the podcast. Chris Anderson, President, Sala Consulting joined Grayson Brulte on The Road To Autonomy Podcast to discuss the Vegas Experience and why mobility companies can offer unique immersive autonomous vehicle experiences only in Vegas. The conversation begins with Chris discussing the current state of the Las Vegas Economy. It's recovering quickly. It's going really well. If you go down to the Strip on a Thursday, Friday, Saturday night, Sunday, it is packed as it ever was. – Chris AndersonOver the years, Vegas has constantly reinvented itself and introduced new trends that would be exported to the world. One of those trends is experiences. Chris explains why the trend of immersive experiences truly began in Vegas when Jay Sarno developed Caesars Palace in 1966.[Caesars Palace] was really a project that took Las Vegas from being just gambling halls and extremely gaming-focused to a more of an experiential resort. – Chris AndersonThe trend of immersive experiences accelerated with Steve Wynn opening the Bellagio Hotel in 1998. The opening of the Bellagio also transformed the image of Vegas from midnight buffets and cheap rooms to a luxury destination. With Vegas emerging as a hub of mobility with Aptiv, The Boring Company, Lyft, Motional, Nuro, Uber, and Zoox, all operating in Vegas, Grayson, and Chris discuss why Las Vegas. We have a very welcoming community that is very welcome to innovation and new people, new companies. Our regulatory framework reflects that. – Chris AndersonIt's not only the community and the regulatory framework it's the Vegas brand. It's the ultimate branding opportunity. If you launch in Las Vegas, you are going to get hundreds of millions, if not billions of impressions around the world, because Las Vegas is such a destination. – Chris AndersonWhile a majority of the revenues generated in Las Vegas today are non-gaming revenues, online gaming is growing at a rapid pace. With the growth of online gaming and Motional and Zoox preparing to offer autonomous vehicle services for paying passengers, Grayson asks Chris when bespoke online gambling experiences will be offered in resort branded autonomous vehicles. There is no doubt that that is going to happen. Obviously, we have great online sports betting opportunities right now. Sometime in the future, I can see full internet gaming being an option. So, when those products are ready for it and the autonomous vehicle industry is ready for it, there is no doubt in my mind that that will happen. – Chris AndersonAutonomous vehicles companies that will benefit from this trend the most, are companies that have chosen to build a bespoke vehicle from the ground up.Autonomous vehicles that are not retrofitted will enable unique partnerships with gaming companies due to the design and the user experience in the vehicle. The immersive user experience will expand to sports teams such as the Las Vegas Raiders and the Golden Knights.Wrapping up the conversation, Grayson and Chris discuss Casinos and their role in the growth of online gaming and how in-autonomous vehicle gamming could expand globally.Recorded on Tuesday, November 11, 2021.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
