As most parents can tell you, coming up with names isn’t easy. It sometimes takes a while to settle on something that sounds just right. It wasn’t easy for the people who named the constellations, either. Some of the names sound like they just gave up. They picked a region of the sky with few stars, gave it the name of a nearby bright constellation, then added the word “minor.” All three of these minor constellations are in good view at dawn: Ursa Minor, Canis Minor, and Leo Minor. The most famous of the bunch is Ursa Minor – the little bear. Seven of its stars form the Little Dipper, which is in the north – directly below the Big Dipper, which is part of Ursa Major. The constellation is especially well known because its brightest star is Polaris, the Pole Star. It’s at the tip of the little bear’s tail. Canis Minor is the little dog. It’s about half way up the sky in the west-southwest. It has only a couple of bright stars. The brightest is Procyon – a name that means “before the dog.” That’s because the little dog leads the big dog across the sky. In ancient Greece, in fact, the constellation was known as Procyon. Finally, Leo Minor is high overhead. It’s the little lion, standing on the shoulder of Leo. That region of the sky wasn’t depicted as a separate constellation until 1687. Today, though, it’s one of the 88 official constellations – even if it is a “minor” one. Script by Damond Benningfield
This episode of the Pilates Association Australia Podcast introduces newly elected committee member Kimberley Garlick, studio owner, senior Polestar educator and long-time industry leader. In conversation with host Bruce Hildebrand, Kimberley traces her journey from ballet and human movement into Pilates, layering in decades of additional study in neurolinguistics, bioenergetics, kinesiology, massage and yoga. She speaks candidly about what motivated her to “put her hand up” for the PAA committee after nearly 30 years of teaching — a desire to stop waiting for someone else to create change, and instead step directly into the process of shaping the industry's future. From there, the discussion moves into Kimberley's aspirations for her term on the committee. She identifies membership growth as a top priority — not as a vanity metric, but as the foundation for a strong, representative industry body that can advocate effectively for Pilates. She talks about engaging the younger generation of instructors (including those she mentors through Polestar and even her own daughter), lifting education standards across diverse training organisations, and working instrumentally rather than emotionally to bring coherence to a fragmented training landscape. Rather than criticising individual providers, she wants to help create clear, shared benchmarks so that all education pathways support a credible, respected profession. Kimberley and Bruce also explore broader themes: listening deeply to clients instead of assuming based on appearance; nurturing vulnerable new teachers instead of “crushing” them; and protecting the subtle, mindful nature of Pilates in a culture addicted to intensity and quick fixes. They reflect on how the method has exploded into the mainstream — sometimes in diluted forms — and why the reinstatement of health fund rebates and clearer industry standards are such pivotal steps. Kimberley is optimistic that, with collaboration under the PAA “umbrella,” the industry can move from merely adapting to survive toward truly thriving, building an organisation and a profession designed to last not just 10 years, but the next hundred. Jen Guest (Physiotherapist, senior Polestar educator and long-time PAA leader) joins Daniela Di Fabio to unpack the pelvic floor in practical, teacher-friendly terms. The conversation opens with clear anatomy — the pelvic floor as a diamond-shaped stack of muscles and connective tissue — and a concise breakdown of its five key functions: support of the pelvic organs, sphincteric control, sexual function, lymphatic/venous return and its role as the base of the core “cylinder” (with the diaphragm, transverse abdominis and lumbar stabilisers forming the rest). Jen emphasises how the pelvic floor's connective tissue interconnects with the hips, lumbar fascia, inner thigh and even the shoulder via fascial lines, reinforcing why Pilates is a true whole-body system. The episode's most important clinical distinction is between hypotonic (weak) and hypertonic (over-tight/guarding) pelvic floors. Jen explains common causes for each — pregnancy, repetitive loading or cough for weakness; pain, nerve irritation, surgery or chronic guarding for tightness — and why symptoms like urinary leakage can appear in both cases. She walks through the primitive “pain-protection” response that drives chronic hypertonicity and stresses the risk of mis-cuing (for example, always asking clients to “lift” the pelvic floor can worsen a hypertonic state). Because presentation can be similar, Jen is clear that teachers should screen carefully and refer to pelvic-floor physiotherapists when a specialist diagnosis is needed.Practical, studio-ready guidance closes the episode: for hypotonic clients use traditional Pilates breath, coordinated transverse abdominis engagement, glute activation and targeted loading (Pilates V, turnout cues) to encourage lift and support; for hypertonic clients prioritise relaxation, widening the pelvic outlet (foot position, external rotation), exhale-led movement and gentle stretching to invite release rather than further contraction. Throughout Jen urges teachers to know their scope of practice, use thoughtful screening questions, collaborate with allied health, and view referral as a mark of professionalism — not failure. The episode is both a clinical primer and a call to thoughtful, evidence-informed teaching practice.PAA Course Competency Criteria standardsVisit the PAA website Find us on Facebook Join the PAA Member Forum (Members only)Find us on InstagramEmail us at support@pilates.org.au

Kilowatt Podcast - Episode SummaryIn this episode of Kilowatt, Bodie dives into the latest in electric vehicle and energy news. Tesla gets the green light to test robotaxis with safety drivers in Arizona. Polestar 3 owners in the U.S. can now power their homes with their vehicles thanks to a partnership with dcbel, showcasing real-world benefits of vehicle-to-home (V2H) technology. Meanwhile, GM is telling suppliers to move away from Chinese sourcing by 2027 amid rising geopolitical tensions. Bodie also discusses two key Recurrent studies showing that modern EV batteries degrade less than expected over three years and almost never need replacement. This data could ease fears for anyone considering a used EV. The episode wraps with practical advice on which EV generations to consider and why the battery concerns are largely overblown.Support the Show

As seen from most of the United States, the Big Dipper is plunging toward the northern horizon as night falls, as if it’s about to dip into a pail of water. If you line up the stars at the outer edge of the dipper’s bowl, and follow that line to the upper right, the first moderately bright star you come to is Polaris, the Pole Star or North Star. Earth’s north pole aims toward it, so Polaris forms the hub of the northern sky – all the other stars appear to rotate around it. And it’s always at the same point above the horizon – night and day, all year long. There’s a southern pole star, too. It’s not as prominent as Polaris, though. In fact, it’s barely visible. The star is Polaris Australis. It’s also known as Sigma Octantis because it’s in the constellation Octans, which depicts a navigational instrument known as an octant. Polaris Australis isn’t as impressive as Polaris mainly because Polaris is huge and brilliant. Compared to most stars, though, the southern pole star is impressive, too. It’s more than half again the mass of the Sun. It’s expanding as it nears the end of its life, so it’s several times wider than the Sun. And its outer layers puff in and out, so it brightens and fades a tiny bit every couple of hours. On average, it’s more than 40 times brighter than the Sun. But it’s almost 300 light-years away. So that keeps Polaris Australis from being a better pointer to the celestial south pole. Script by Damond Benningfield
CAPÍTULO 6: GREAT WALL MOTOR, EL ESPECIALISTA EN SUVs.

Vamos a responder a dos preguntas aparentemente sencillas: ¿Qué significa hoy en día "Made in Europe"? ¿Qué significa "Made in China"?
