Welcome back to another episode of Locked on Seminoles! Drake and Dave continue the way-too-early position previews, finishing the offensive side of the ball with the big guys up front along the offensive line.Since inheriting one of the worst offensive lines in all of FBS upon his arrival to Florida State, Alex Atkins has coached and recruited the position into a state of serviceability, if not better. Indeed, the offensive line has improved each year since Atkins' arrival alongside Mike Norvell, largely anchored by the play of transfers such as Dillan Gibbons, D'Mitri Emmanuel, and Jazston Turnerine in 2022, which saw FSU's run blocking improve to top-50 after being 120th-best the year prior. The Seminoles will once again lean on transfers along the offensive line in 2023, after bringing in yet another top crop of transfers including UTEP stat tackle Jeremiah Byers, Colorado guard Casey Roddick, and Auburn guard Keiondre Jones. Though injuries could have derailed FSU's offensive line in 2022, quality, functional depth shined through, and the depth should be even greater in 2023.With that in mind, Drake and Dave discuss expectations and performance of the offensive line in 2022, wants and needs for the line play in 2023, and underclassmen breakout candidates who could force themselves into a starting spot by season's end.As always, thanks for making Locked On Seminoles your first listen each and every day. Time to get cheesy. The No. 13 Florida State Seminoles (9-3, 5-3 ACC) and Oklahoma Sooners (6-6, 3-6 Big 12) have arrived in Orlando ahead of this Thursday's Cheez-It Bowl game, set to be played inside Camping World Stadium. FSU, after two losing seasons to kick off the Mike Norvell era, is in the midst of its best year since 2016 while the Sooners are stumbling into the postseason after a crash back to earth in year one under Brent Venables. According to DraftKings, FSU is currently a 9.5-point favorite over the Sooners with the over/under set at 65.5. Ahead of the matchup, coaches and players from both squads met with the media to talk about the week that awaits and other storylines surrounding the game. Learn more about your ad choices. Welcome in to Noles News Now, your audio home for all things happening in Florida State athletics on the Tomahawk Nation podcast network. What a welcome back to the FSU-Miami rivalry, Mario Cristobal. Better luck next time. Happy victory Monday to you our listener. Your Florida State Seminoles are now bowl-eligible after a thoroughly, dominant and I mean dominant 45-3 win over Miami this past weekend. Thanks so much for tuning in. I'm Brian Pellerin on this Monday, November 7th. Apologies for the late timing on this podcast this week, we're trying something different by recording on my Monday lunch break after Mike Norvell's usual Monday press conference. We start this afternoon in the obvious place and that is Saturday's blowout in Miami Gardens. The Seminoles asserting their will early taking a huge lead into half and never looking back. The stars on the day — Trey Benson who posted 15 carries for 128 and 2 TDs and then the FSU defense holding Miami to just 3 points in the game that came on their first drive. Otherwise, it was a lot of 3-and-outs plus turnovers. The Canes simply never had a prayer in this one. The stadium started emptying out in the second quarter and looked more like a normal Miami home game throughout the second half. Benson and OL-man Dillan Gibbons earned ACC Player of the Week honors as well. The victory puts Florida State back in the top 25 of the AP poll. They still remain a bit of a ways out in the coaches' poll. The college football playoff rankings drop tomorrow night. This week's opponent Syracuse, no longer in those polls after dropping a third straight game. That one was a battle of teams playing without their top offensive player. Cuse going without QB Garrett Shrader who appears to be moving close to a return after warming up this past weekend and Pitt is without their star running back. Either way, it was Pitt who came out victorious so Noles headed to Syracuse to face a team on a losing streak, desperate to right their ship. Oddsmakers like FSU as they opened as a 7-point favorite on the road. Outside of the field, two headlines in Tallahassee. First coming Saturday night when the broadcast showed Mike Norvell and Deuce Spann on the sideline where Spann was clearly frustrated as Norvell tried to get his head back in the game. Asked about it today, Norvell said “It's about me helping to get him back to where he's in control — when you get to that point, your mind can race to a million different places... He apologized and I just told him I loved him.” Norvell received some praise online for how he handled that moment. The other coming from a potential transfer off this team. This morning, Sam McCall posted online a note that he was entering the transfer portal, but later deleted the post, saying he made it off emotion. So it appears he will remain with the team for the time being. That is certainly something that could come up in this week's Tribe ‘23 Recruiting and Portal Thread with our experts Josh Pick, Tim Scribble, and David Stout. They've got the details on everything you need for potential roster shakeups in both recruiting and the portal. How about the ACC champs? Did you hear about that? Your reigning national champion FSU soccer team has added another trophy to their resume as they picked up the ACC title in a really even 2-1 victory against North Carolina. Florida State has now won nine of the last 12 ACC titles. Incredible run for that program. The NCAA tourney selection show is this afternoon at 4 so it may be out already depending on when you're listening to this. Good luck going forward, Noles. Let's go back to back. Hoops season is here also as the FSU men's team opens their year tonight at 7 pm against Stetson. The FSU women already rolled through its first opponent with a 113-50 win against Bethune Cookman this morning. That'll do it for today's Noles News Now. Until next time, I'm Brian Pellerin. Dillan Gibbons recaps the teams loss to Wake Forest and gives a glimpse into the vibes in the locker room. FSU is looking to move on and get back in the win column on the road against NC State.
Happy Monday and welcome in to Noles News Now, your audio home for all things happening in Florida State athletics on the Tomahawk Nation podcast network. I'm your host Brian Pellerin on this Monday September 19th. Thanks so much for joining me as we enter another game week with an F-S-U victory. After going into Louisville and grabbing a 35-31 win, Florida State is 3-0 for the first time since 2015. The Noles doing so with Jordan Travis, Jared Verse and others watching from the sideline after getting injured in the contest. Still not enough to stop this team. So how was FSU able to pull it off? Listen to this week's SeminoleWrap podcast featuring myself, Jon Marchant and Max Escarpio available today wherever you hear my voice right now as we answer that question, I try to get this deemed the Tate Rodemaker game and we look at how FSU will fair going forward if they are forced to play without those guys. All right now on this week's Seminole Wrap podcast. The first answer to how they'll do will be a bit clearer on Monday when Mike Norvell meets with the media to kickoff Boston College game week. He may be unlikely to share many details, but it'll be the first chance to hear from the head coach on those injuries though he may be vague on real updates until Saturday when they actually play against BC. The Noles are currently 16-point favorites against the Eagles so oddsmakers are confident they'll be fine if those guys do miss time. This is the first time FSU is a double-digit favorite since the 2020 season opener against Georgia Tech and their largest spread since 2016 against Syracuse. If you're going to be in Tallahassee this weekend, you've got a chance to help our Dillan Gibbons and his biggest fan Timothy Donovan. We've shared the story of their friendship before as Gibbons has been a champion for Donovan and his family through his big man big heart efforts. This week is Donovan's 20th birthday so Dillan is inviting fans to stop by their tent on the legacy walk for a slice of cake and help out his NIL efforts to continue giving to charitable efforts. Couple things to watch on the recruiting trail this week as two highly rated recruits will make their college decisions. Linebacker Blake Nichelson will hold his commitment ceremony on Tuesday. Then on Friday, it'll be wide receiver Hykeem Williams announcing his decision. Noles are in the running for both guys so keep an eye out for both of those guys. Elsewhere on campus, the FSU soccer team beat Boston College 6-0 on Saturday. They've now scored 5 or more goals in each of their last four games. Next up is a home match on Thursday night against Louisville. And the volleyball team won in straight sets against UAB this weekend. They'll open conference play at home on Friday against Notre Dame at 6:30. That'll do it for this week's Noles News Now. As always, please follow, rate, and review the show if you like what you hear. It helps us out a lot and allows us to continue bringing you the content we do every day. Including this podcast that you can catch three times a week — Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. So until Wednesday, I'm Brian Pellerin. Thanks for listening. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

In a special edition of Mailbag Monday, the Locked On crew takes on a listener question about what the Madden ratings for this team would look like. Instead of giving ratings for each player, they discuss which Seminole would have the highest rating in each category. This leads to several conversations about which FSU players are the best at individual aspects of their position, followed by a debate of which player should have the best overall rating. Would you grant any current player admission into the coveted "99 Club?" Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

It's another largely quiet weekend on the FSU campus, but we are slowly moving closer to football season as the ACC hosts their ACC Kickoff media days this week in Charlotte. That gets underway on Wednesday. Florida State will go that same day. The Seminoes representatives there will be head coach Mike Norvell, quarterback Jordan Travis, defensive tackle Fabian Lovett and defensive back Jammie Robinson. ACC commissioner Jim Philips will also speak on Wednesday. He'll actually be kicking off the proceedings. Interesting to see what he'll have to say in light of the recent conference realignment moves that ACC has largely sat on the sidelines of. Will hetake a strong position on the jostling or will he spew cliches? That exact question was one of the ones tackled on this week's Seminole Wrap podcast. Myself along with Max Escarpio and Jon Marchant talk through what he maybe willor should say. Plus we talk about the ongoing rebuild through the focus on offensive line recruiting. Should we be calling this the Alex Atkins rebuild, instead of the Mike Norvell rebuild? The new O-C putting in tons of strong work on the recruiting trail to uplift this roster that will pay dividends now and into the future.Check it out. That episode dropping Monday morning wherever you get this podcast and on Tomahawk Nation dot com. Coming this August, Doak Campell will get a new bit of a new look as FSU announced their plan to update the facades on the press box and suites with more of the program's history. It'll have retired numbers, championships, bowl appearances, and all Americans alongside Bobby Bowden's name. A chance for FSU to really showcase its deep, prestigious history to fans, players, and potential recruits. The first chance to check it out is that home opener in August. In case you missed it at the end of last week, members of the FSU football team are banding together to help their fellow teammate Greedy Vance and his family restore their home in New Orleans. Vance's family home was impacted by Hurricane Ida last August and the family is still working to get back on their feet. Many of us I'm sure live along the coast know how difficult that hurricane recovery process can be. So offensive lineman Dillan Gibbons alongside Jordan Travis have started a GoFundMeto support them get through that process. If you'd like to check it out and help however you can, we've got an article on our website about it linking to that fund. Elsewhere on campus, new head baseball coach Link Jarrett keeps filling up his first staff with guys from his old staff as pitching coach Chuck Ristano is the latest guy to make the leap from Notre Dame to Tallahassee. Ristano had spent the last 12 years at Notre Dame. Another big get for Link. In hoops, a lot of former Noles continue to showcase their skills in the final few games of the NBA's summer league and on Sunday, nobody did so better than John Butler who had a perfect night from the field. 9/9 shooting including 6/6 from beyond the arc left with 25 points and 7 rebounds for the Pelicans. That's a young group inNew Orleans that needs some knockdown shooting. Maybe he can catch on there this fall. He'll likely start that process as a two-way player first, but we'll have to see how that process unfolds. The soccer team has announced their 2022 schedule as they get set to begin their first under new head coach Brian Pensky. It'll be a bit of a tougher task as the roster has lost 3 of their bigger names in Emily Madril, Kirsten Pavlisko and Yujie Zhao, but this team should still have enough talent to compete this year. I'm Brian Pellerin, your host to lead you into the weekend... a rather uneventful weekend in terms of games I might add as we slowly build our way back toward the fall sports season. The most notable of those is of course football, which is about two months away now, but we are in the middle of preseason all-American season and we had a few Noles land on the Phil Steele magazine All-American team as well as a few others on the All-ACC teams on Thursday. Your second-team all-American according to them is DB Jammie Robinson. Jammie also grabbed first team all ACC. The others named to their All-ACC teams are Alex Mastromanno on the second team, as well as Dillan Gibbons, Mycah Pittman, Robert Cooper, and Camren McDonald on the third team. On campus this weekend, the biggest competition will be in recruiting as four-star linebacker Blake Nichelson should be arriving for his official visit today. They'll look to keep the moment rolling from the commitment they scooped up earlier this week from a late 2022 defensive lineman. Elsewhere in the ACC, a tough blow for Boston College as their best offensive lineman will likely miss the entire season following an ACL tear. Star guard Christian Mahogany is considered one of the top prospects for the next NFL Draft so that's a tough blow for B-C. He'll surely be tough to replace this season. Noles host the Eagles on September 24. The NCAA is still working to catch up to the quickly changing landscape of their sports as they are apparently recommending some guidelines to the transfer portal. That includes recommending a transfer window process, which basically gives athletes certain times of the year to enter the portal instead of being free agents able to bounce around at any time. They're also recommending an expedited process to punish teams that commit infractions. Right now, that process drags for years. That is certainly not a sustainable model in this day and age where you can use the portal to retool a roster in one season. Those recommendations will go before the board later this month. The actual vote could come as early as August. That is all according to ESPN's Heather Dinnich. Quicker infractions and punishments could be a big problem for Miami and their mega booster John Ruiz. The self-proclaimed billionaire cutting the program's NIL deals met with the NCAA to discuss those payments. Ruiz told CBS Sports that he took the meeting voluntarily and that it was nothing to be concerned about if you're a Canes fan, but certainly not a good look to be the first school under the microscope given their history we'll see where that leads. Never too early to look into the future at some other upcoming seasons. That includes the FSU hoops team that has their roster ready to rock for their winter season. The hoops-dedicated podcast crew looked at the group suiting up for the New Bloods this year to get your expectations set for Leonard Hamilton's boys. And if you're already missing softball season, Gwyn Rhodes continued her fantastic coverage of that program and dropped the first of her meet the team series looking at the Super Seniors for 2023. A group that'll be tasked with righting the wrongs of this season's conclusion and hopefully getting FSU back to OKC. As always, anything that comes up through the weekend will be on TomahawkNation.com. For now, I'm Brian Pellerin. Thanks for listening to Noles News Now. We'll be back again on Monday. Welcome to the Monday, June 6th edition of Noles News Now, your home for everything happening in Florida State athletics here on the Tomahawk Nation podcast network. I'm your host Brian Pellerin. Thanks for starting your week with us. The biggest headline heading into today comes on a sad note as the Florida State baseball team's season has come to an end in the Auburn Regional. The Noles opened the weekend with a victory over UCLA on Friday afternoon. Parker Messick took the win in that one holding the Bruins to 2 runs over 5 innings. The bullpen chipped in 4 one-run innings to close it out. The winner's bracket game on Saturday though, wasn't as successful for the Noles on the hill as Auburn wallopped Florida State to a 21-7 final score... Yeah, it sounds like a football score. Four errors in that one didn't exactly help the Seminoles either. Regardless, they'd need one hell of arun on Sunday to keep the season alive, but they couldn't find the bats in the elimination game against UCLA as the Bruins got revenge and sent them packing with a 2-1final. The Noles who were top 15 in the preseason polls ended up as one of the last teams into the tournament and taking third place in the regional... a long shoutfrom where they hoped the season would end. We're still about 2 months from football season, but the recruiting year never stops. For Mike Norvell's group, it's camp time. Saturday started with the annual elite Camp. The goal is a pretty simple one — get some of the nation's top prospects on campus for workouts... meet the coaches and tour the facilities. The group that came to Tallahassee included every 2023 commit including 5-star running back Kam Davis, 4-star Q-B Chris Parson, and 3-star Q-B Luke Kromenhook. Parson did announce while speaking with the media that he plans on taking some official visits to other schools for the first time since committing to FSU so something to keep an eye on. As we counting down to the start of the season, the Seminole Wrap podcast crew including yours truly, Jon Marchant, and Max Escarpio took a look at the five most important players for Florida State this year. That's not necessarily the 5 best players but the 5 that will need to play a big role if this team hopes to take a step forward in 2022. We get some good back and forth in a 20-30 minute episode. I think it's a fun listen so give it a shot and let us know who you think we may have missed. Meanwhile, a current leader on the Noles offensive line continues to collect honors for his work off the field. Dillan Gibbons won the Starfish Award from the Big BendBoys and Girls Club. Congrats Dillan. A guy who has been incredibly impactful with his platform. Keep up the good work. We're proud to call you a Seminole. And one more thing to keep an eye on today in the hoops world is Baba Miller who is set to announce his next destination today. The 6-foot-10 Spaniard could be a big impact on the wing for the Noles. So check in with Tomahawk Nation throughout the day to see if he's Tally bound. That'll do it for today's edition of Noles News Now. Thank you for listening and remember to rate and review this podcast if you like what you're hearing. I'm BrianPellerin. We'll see you again on Wednesday. Learn more about your ad choices. On the September 4th, 2021 edition of Notre Dame Federal Credit Union's Irish Sports Saturdays, host Angelo Di Carlo interviews Notre Dame graduate Dillan Gibbons who will start for Florida State against the Irish in the season opener. Dillan recently transferred to Florida State and it will be very unique for him to face off with some of his closest friends. He also has an incredible story off the field, including his friendship with diehard Notre Dame fan, Timothy Donovan. Timothy is teenager who has battled serious medical issues since his birth. Dillan and Timothy have been friends since 2017, after they met following an ND game. With the start of Name, Image & Likeness, Dillan started a Go Fund Me for Timothy to get him to the ND-FSU game. What transpired next, was incredible. More than $50,000 was raised. Not only is Timothy and his family going to the game, they are also receiving a lot of money to help offset Timothy's expensive medical costs. Dillan is a strong Catholic and he reflects fondly on his time at Notre Dame and how his faith guides him. Florida State offensive lineman Dillan Gibbons met with local media via Zoom on Wednesday. Here's the full thing in audio version. “When I started my college career back in 2017, if you'd like me to get into that story and how I built that relationship I can at some point, but the bottom line is once I met him and built a connection with him, I made a very distinct decision in my life to engage with him. And not just have a one-off relationship. ...I want to do as much as I possibly could. You see, before the last couple months I wasn't allowed to do anything among the lines of a GoFundMe or anything like that. So most of the things I gave him were my time, a connection, having a person to talk to. Once I started hearing things about Name and Likeness from major media sources probably a year ago, and I just started hearing that it could happen in my college career. So I mapped out a game plan at one of my strategic business classes at Notre Dame of how I could actually raise the money for his family. Initially it started as just trying to get him to the game. But as everyone has seen here, it's blossomed into something else. It's making a radical impact on him and his family's life.” “It's actually one of the main reasons why I did transfer to Florida State. See, having my family at games means the world to me. It costs my family a lot of money to get to South Bend every weekend for all the home games. We were lucky enough to have a house up there because my brother went to law school at Notre Dame. At the same time, it was financially pretty tough to get up there. Another part of it, too, is my grandpa had multiple open-heart surgeries the past four years. He can't fly. It's one of the things he's been struggling with for six years now, so he's never been able to see me play college football. Being closer to home for my last two seasons, I'll be able to have the whole family there with my grandpa.” --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tomahawknation/message

On Monday night FSU landed Dillan Gibbons a transfer from Notre Dame. There is a lot to like about this addition and we will discuss his game further below. This pickup for Mike Norvell and Alex Atkins is all about moving the floor of your OL room up. Gibbons comes in with a wealth of experience, game ready strength, and maturity. Can you say #CLIMB? Gibbons shows an understanding of zone blocking schemes and running a track. In clips of him playing you see an awareness while running his track to pick up, come off, work in tandem with the players around him. Gibbons gets on his path and stays on it and just works throughout the entire play. He allows the running back a chance by getting a hat on a hat. It’s nice to see a well oiled machine at work and that is what Notre Dame’s OL is. Watching Gibbons be a cog in that wheel is exciting. We’ve seen in Tallahassee recently miscues when doing this. Bringing in a player like Gibbons will help sure up some of these issues. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tomahawknation/message
