Georgia and Texas square off in the SEC football championship game, a rematch that Georgia won earlier this year. Oddsmakers favor Texas by 2 1/2 (as does our composite computer model) with an over-under of 49, making for an implied final score of Texas 26, Georgia 23. Tennessee pulled off a massive upset in Week 12, knocking off CJ Stroud and the Houston Texans to pick up its third win of the season, and first with Will Levis under center for the entire game. Just three weeks ago, the Commanders were in the lead in the NFC East, but they've dropped three games in a row to fall to 7-5 and are now in danger of missing the playoffs in the NFC. Chase Robinson and Chris Lee preview Florida vs. Miami in their opening game of the 2024 college football season and share their predictions for the matchup at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville. Both Florida's Billy Napier and Miami's Mario Cristobal need to win this one badly. Miami added one of the best players in the transfer portal in Washington State transfer quarterback Cam Ward. The Hurricanes have a loaded receiving room that includes Xavier Restrepo and Jacolby George. Miami returns four of five starters on its offensive line. Miami's defensive front seven appears loaded, with Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Rookie of the Year Rueben Bain returning at end, and big-play linebacker Francisco Mauigoa. Florida has a solid offense, led by underrated quarterback Graham Mertz, running back Montrell Johnson Jr., and receiver Eugene Wilson III. The Gators have an experienced offensive line led by Austin Barber. Florida added defensive line depth in the portal with Joey Slackman (Penn) and George Gumbs (Northern Illinois) that could come in handy on a hot, humid afternoon. Florida's reloaded secondary features returnees Jason Marshall and Jordan Castell, and was also bolstered with the additions of Asa Turner (Washington), DJ Douglas (Tulane) and Trikweze Bridges (Oregon). Oddsmakers have Miami favored by about two points; computers we watch have it as a toss-up. Will Florida's home-field advantage in The Swamp make the difference here? The Tennessee Titans surprised virtually no one when they selected a tackle in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. With a glaring need at the position and a host of top prospects available, they went with Alabama's JC Latham (6-foot-6, 360 pounds), who was a two-year starter at right tackle in college. ... Latham is unusually athletic for his size was a left tackle in high school, where he became the country's top-ranked offensive line prospect, and impressed Titans coaches during pre-draft interviews. All of that factors into the team's belief that his transition to the left side in the NFL will be smooth. ... Oddsmakers had Notre Dame's Joe Alt as the Titans' most likely selection, but he ultimately was not available when Tennessee was on the clock at No. 7. Indications are, though, that the Titans might have taken Latham even if Alt was available. ... In addition to the tackles, there were other notable prospects at several positions available to the Titans. Plus, a number of teams called with trade offers. Ultimately, though, general manager Ran Carthon elected to stay put and go with Latham. ... In his post-draft press conference, Latham came across as intelligent, well-spoken, enthusiastic and highly motivated, all of which should make him someone Titans fans easily can root for. ... Latham's addition seemingly settles things on the left side of the offebnsive line. The right side, however, is a different issue. ... With two days and seven rounds remaining in the draft, the Titans still have needs to fill. They hold the sixth pick of the second round, which likely will generate more trade opoportunities, and then won't pick again until the fourth round.
