There aren't many actors that everyone will attest to just being an all-around great guy. Carl Weathers was one of those people. You may have first hated him as Apollo Creed in the Rocky movies, but I bet you jumped out of your seat when Rocky beat Apollo while racing down the beach in Rocky 3. And I guarantee you were the first to cry when his character is beaten to death by Ivan Drago in Rocky 4. He shined in whatever role he was given. Chubbs in Happy Gilmore. Freddie in The Comebacks. And even Carl playing Carl in Arrested Development. Today, when we heard Carl had passed away at age 76, we thought about those 10 minutes. What a gift it was. Thanks for the memories, Carl. We will definitely miss you. Here's our 2009 conversation with the late, great Carl Weathers. The Stuck in the '80s podcast is sponsored by The 80s Cruise. The Dead Milkmen were odd ducks in Philadelphia's 1980s hardcore scene. They played really fast, but with a clean guitar channel, and wrote satirical--often strange and very imaginative--lyrics. It felt like they were almost a ska band. And in fact, they did have a few ska songs in their set like "If You Love Somebody, Set Them On Fire," "Little Man In My Head," "Gorilla Girl," and a cover of The Specials' "A Message To You, Rudy." Today, we bring on Dead Milkmen guitarist Joe Genaro. We talk about the band's relationship to ska, Joe's love for The Specials, The English Beat, Philly locals The Hooters, Operation Ivy and what it was like to play a LIVE 105 radio event with Skankin' Pickle (Along with Duran Duran and Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine.) We discuss their recent cover of Heaven 17's "(We Don't Need No) Fascist Groove Thang," which they turned into a ska song, the influential role of Dead Kennedys' In God We Trust, Inc, Joe's love for Dr. Demento and Weird Al (And how excited he was when he heard himself played on the Dr. Demento show), Why they mentioned drummer Jon Wurster in the song "Stewart," and we breakdown the recording of Big Lizard In My Backyard, and discuss some of the weirder promotional events Dead Milkmen did when "Punk Rock Girl" broke, including a bonkers performance on Club MTV with Downtown Julie Brown. Plus we discuss the band's excellent new album, Quaker City Quiet Pills, which was released on June 9th. Support the show

For Episode 37 of The Hottest Party On TV podcast, actress, stylist, and Club MTV dancer Helena Apothaker reminisces about her time on MTV's iconic dance show. Before appearing on programs such as Married With Children, Days of Our Lives, Chicago Hope and House, Helena was busting a move on Club MTV in 1987 & 1988. It was really cool to get her perspective on the show during that time but also what it was like going out to clubs and seeing underground movements and trends start to bubble up and cross over into the mainstream. We also get into her thoughts on Downtown Julie Brown, why in her opinion a show like Club MTV probably wouldn't work today, and how she knew when it was time for her to leave Club MTV. Helena also tells the story of how she discovered the Club MTV Fan Page account on Instagram and how that helped get her through a really tough moment in her life. Episode produced by Esteban Vargas. In Episode 28 of The Hottest Party On TV podcast, we've got another OG Club MTV dancer. This time, it's Rochele Seskin! Rochele joined the show at the very outset, being cast for the show's pilot in the summer of 87 and sticking around thru most of 89. A dancer, theatre kid, and now someone who helps the next generation of performers get ready for the spotlight, Rochele describes herself back then as being quirky and a bit of a hippie. We unpack the audition process, her relationship with Downtown Julie Brown, being featured in Tiger Beat, and how being on the show kicked off an enduring longtime friendship with her bestie and fellow Club MTV dancer Billy Angell. This week, the always fierce, fabulous, and flamboyant M.A. Taylor is on The Hottest Party On TV Podcast. A professionally trained dancer, M.A.was on Club MTV from the pilot episode in the summer of 1987 thru most of 1990. Tall, dressed to kill, and always busting out his signature pirouettes and kicks, MA was hard to miss while watching Club MTV. He's quite the character. We talked about how he got on the show, why he and the show's iconic host Downtown Julie Brown hit it off right away, why he felt like the dancing was better in the earlier years of Club MTV and so much more. In episode 23 of The Hottest Party On TV podcast, Jeromme is joined by Club MTV dancer Melissa. If you watched MTV at all in the 90s, there's a good chance that you remember seeing Melissa on your TV screens. She joined Club MTV in 1991 and after the show abruptly ended the following year, she eventually became a mainstay on MTV's next big dance show The Grind. And if that's not enough, Melissa also ended up on MTV's aerobics-meets-dance show Daily Burn in the late 90s after The Grind came to an end. We get into what it was like being an MTV dancer for nearly a decade, what the differences were between the Downtown Julie Brown-helmed Club MTV and the Eric Nies-fronted The Grind, and fun stories of everyone from Bell Biv Devoe to White Zombie. Plus, a first for the podcast, a parking lot shoot-out story. Episode produced by Esteban Vargas. Stay tuned for new episodes dropping every Throwback Thursday. In episode 19 of The Hottest Party On TV podcast, Jeromme chats with Club MTV's floor producer and writer Lou Stellato. Yes, there were writers on Club MTV. The producer extraordinaire wore a variety of different hats at MTV, one of which was being Downtown Julie Brown's righthand man/wrangler during Club MTV tapings. We get into what exactly that entailed and there's a lot of fun broader MTV talk, too. His journey to MTV, how the VJ segments were shot and put together, how MTV's artist interviews worked, and insight into what it was like being at MTV when it was truly the epicenter of everything hot and happening in pop culture. With wide-acclaim as a performer and musician, his fashion sense earned him the title of “Fashion Cop” for US Weekly!!!This was a get together that would DEFINITELY have happened in-person if the circumstances in our 2020 world were different. Dean Sabatino aka Dean Clean/May 19, 2014 Joseph A. Gervasi interviews Dean Sabatino, better known under his nom-de-Milkmen Dean Clean. Dean was born in Camden, NJ, but grew up in a rural area outside Philadelphia. By the early 1980s, he was in the two-person band Narthex and playing shows in Philadelphia, including at the (in)famous Hot Club. Upon the demise of Narthex, Sabatino joined The Dead Milkmen as their first and only drummer. We talk about Dean’s young life (where he was a fun of progressive rock!) and his incremental move to Philadelphia, where he ultimately lived with the three other members of the band for some years. The Dead Milkmen’s surprise hit song “Punk Rock Girl” earned them play on MTV and got the band a Club MTV in a performance (with a bemused and abused Downtown Julie Brown) that must be seen to be believed (but for the benefit of those who haven’t seen it, Dean discusses the performance in detail). Since Dean was the last remaining living original member of the band I needed to interview, we also talk a bit about the sad demise of Dave Schulthise (aka Dave Blood), the bass player in The Dead Milkmen who took his own life in 2004 at the age of 47. Despite breaking up for several years, The Dead Milkmen are back and continue to record and perform. Dean Sabatino is genial and thoughtful throughout the interview and I know any fan of the band or individuals curious about Philadelphia’s underground music scene of the 1980s will enjoy my talk with him. Welcome dear listeners to week one of what I am calling "Co-Host-A-Pallooza", my month long respite for people who are saying how much they love the show if it weren't for the guy doing all the talking. During the month I'm going to bring on some great podcasters and great friends to talk about the books I'm covering that week, and this time out it's a quartet of issues, starting with Green Lantern #63, where Kyle and Hal duke it out...wait, didn't this happen a few months ago? Well, maybe the ranting and raving of the H.E.A.T. fans gave Ron Marz a reason to settle them down. We'll also be taking a look at "The Way of the Warrior" storyline over in Guy Gardner, Justice League America, and Hawkman. Witness Guy mopping the floor with the then really lame version of the Justice League! Marvel at Wonder Woman's non-Wonder Woman costume that she bought off the rack at Hot Topic! Gasp at the not so subtle homoerotic advances of Obsidan and Ice Maiden! Shriek at the awesome bad-assery of Hawkman! And shriek again at the complete mopey-ness of Obsidian...seriously, it really gets on my nerves! All of this goodness is ampilfied by the addition of my very special guest host, Mr Luke Jaconetti, host of Earth Destruction Directive! over at the Two True Freaks podcast network, as well as the author of the blog, Being Carter Hall. We smash our way through this story , and find out just what the heck is up with the Hawk Dude in a synopsis of the character that makes more sense than anything about Donna Troy does. So unless you want to see more of Diana in her Downtown Julie Brown outfit (and trust me, you really don't), I suggest you grab your mp3 player of choice, download the show and start to listening!Feedback for this show can be sent to: justoneoftheguyspodcast@gmail.comJust One Of The Guys is a proud member of the Two True Freaks! Plus, how much Guns N' Roses' videos would cost, with inflation! David Fincher Versus Michael Bay! How Pauly Shore represents sexual slavery, in Julie's mind!
