Last Night at School Committee – July 9, 2025 The only Boston School Committee meeting of the summer opened with a goodbye to a leaving member, included a summary of the Superintendent's progress, and ended with more questions than answers. Here's what happened last night: The meeting began with another goodbye to Committee Member Lima Barbosa who previously announced that she will be leaving the school committee for another professional opportunity. Chair Robinson commended her work on the committee and wished her well in the future. Of note, there is still no word on the process for filling her position. The meeting included votes on various grants in the district as well as an ask from the district to ensure that the leased land permits for the Boys and Girls Martin Richard Foundation Field House Project were legally approved. The votes were approved unanimously. During the public comment portion of the meeting, there were 10 public speakers that advocated on behalf of different issues. There was a wide range of comments last night, including more testimony about the closing of the Dever, achievement gaps for English Language Learners, support for bus monitors, exam school policy concerns, and significant issues at the Mel King Academy. There were also several speakers focused on the poor support offered to students and families in need. One parent spoke to the cumbersome process of school placement related to the student's IEP, and another parent testified about the district's failure to adequately assist her medically-disabled son. Much of this testimony was heartwrenching, illustrating some significant gaps in the BPS' support for students with unique needs. Over the past six months, we have been closely following how the federal government's cuts could impact the district. Last night, Superintendent Skipper offered some insight into resource allocation for next year and beyond. Superintendent Skipper stated that, as of now, no positions will be cut in ‘25-'26 due to funding cuts from the Trump Administration. However, the Superintendent did note that certain title funding may be in jeopardy that could strip away professional development opportunities as well as English Language Learner programming. This will be an issue we continue to monitor. At the last meeting, the School Committee outlined their evaluation of Superintendent Mary Skipper, and they deemed that Superintendent Skipper was "proficient." During this meeting, committee members unanimously voted to approve their evaluation of the Superintendent, yet certain committee members questioned some aspects of the district's progress in terms of quantifiable data. Member Cardet-Hernandez inquired about how data was used to inform committee members' decisions, specifically in terms of graduation rate, enrollment numbers, and achievement gaps. In response, the Superintendent stated that she would provide members with “memos” when this data becomes available. Here at the Shah Foundation, we decided to conduct our own analysis of the committee members' evaluations, and we found a few notable pieces of data. First, across 48 written pages and more than 9,000 words of evaluation on the four standards, there were fewer than 50 data points cited. Second, two of the members did not cite a single specific number in their evaluation of the superintendent's performance. Third, just two members used more than 10 specific data points. Clearly, quantifiable data is not a crucial aspect of the members' evaluation process. With respect to media coverage of the evaluation, the Boston Globe ran a headline stating that “BPS Superintendent Skipper receives high marks in latest evaluation.” However, this attention grabbing title fails to adequately dissect and uncover the truth behind the committee's analysis. In the body of the article, the Globe notes that “progress remains uneven across schools” and much of the analysis from members echoes the same. Learn more about your ad choices. As sociedades humanas vivem o paradigma do consumismo. “They Told Me to Lie”: Officer Dever Says Karen Read's Defense Threatened Her In a dramatic and revealing moment from the Karen Read murder trial on June 2, 2025, former Canton police officer Kelly Dever took the witness stand—and what she said stunned the courtroom. Dever testified that Karen Read's defense team pressured her to falsely testify that she saw Brian Higgins and then-Canton Chief Ken Berkowitz in the Sallyport garage with Read's SUV—an event the timeline proves she could not have seen. When Dever refused to comply, she says a male member of the defense threatened her with perjury charges unless she repeated the false claim in court. Instead of folding under pressure, Dever took the high road and contacted the FBI, who informed her she would not be liable for perjury, as her retraction was made in good faith based on newly revealed facts. The moment marked a credibility catastrophe for Read's legal team and raised serious questions about their tactics. Why would a defense team threaten a police officer with perjury to secure testimony they knew was false? And what does it say about the strength—or desperation—of their case? This episode breaks down every crucial moment from Dever's testimony: her shift records, her admission that she originally misremembered the timeline, her calls to the FBI, and her unwavering stance on telling the truth—even if it meant facing off with aggressive attorneys. We'll also look at how this testimony fits into the broader prosecution narrative and what it reveals about the alleged conspiracy defense that's beginning to unravel under oath. For true crime viewers who care about truth, justice, and the dangers of defense overreach, this is one moment in the Karen Read trial you can't afford to miss. #KarenRead #KellyDever #TrueCrime #WitnessIntimidation #CourtroomDrama #PerjuryThreat #JohnOKeefe #PoliceTestimony #FBI #LegalEthics Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Karen Read Trial Day 25 Recap: Defense Witness Turns on Them, Alleges Defense Member Threatened Her! In a dramatic day inside the Norfolk Superior Court, the Karen Read murder trial took a turn that no one saw coming—when the defense's own witnesses began pushing back. From allegations of witness coercion to a controversial dog bite theory, Day 25 of the trial was packed with explosive revelations and intense courtroom exchanges. Former Canton Police Officer Kelly Dever delivered one of the most impactful testimonies of the trial so far. Dever told the jury that Karen Read's defense team pressured her to testify to a story she knew wasn't true—that she saw Higgins and Berkowitz alone in the garage with Read's SUV. When she refused, she claims they threatened her with perjury. In open court, she directed the accusation directly at defense attorney Alan Jackson. This wasn't a moment of confusion—it was a pointed, emotional standoff that put the defense's tactics under the microscope. Then came Jonathan Diamandis, a friend of former State Trooper Michael Proctor. He confirmed the authenticity of Proctor's now-infamous group chat texts, which were laced with crude, insulting, and misogynistic remarks about Karen Read. But the texts didn't say what the defense needed—they didn't mention any planted evidence, altered reports, or a cover-up. Just hostility. Just bias. And just as easily turned against the defense's credibility as the prosecution's. In the afternoon, the defense called Dr. Marie Russell, a forensic pathologist, to bolster their theory that John O'Keefe's injuries were more consistent with a dog attack than a car crash. But her testimony lacked any physical evidence—no dog DNA, no bite mark match, and no autopsy. The prosecution wasted no time in pointing out that her conclusions were drawn from photos, not science. This video breaks down the legal strategy, expert testimony, and ethical fallout—step by step. #KarenReadTrial #TrueCrime #WitnessCoercion #JohnOKeefe #ForensicEvidence #MichaelProctor #DogBiteDefense #KellyDever #LegalEthics #CourtroomDrama Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Wow! What a day in court! First up was Jonathan Diamandis, who was on the notorious text group chain with former Trooper Michael Proctor. Hank Brennan read Proctors mean texts which failed to have the impact of last trial. However, the real shocker came next with former Canton police officer Kelly Dever as called to the stand by the defense. Dever testified she was threatened that if she didn't lie on the defense stand they would make sure she was charged with perjury. Finally, the defense put up self proclaimed dog bite expert Marie Russell to the stand. Hank Brennan was eating her alive in cross-examination before court ended for the day.Get access to exclusive content & support the podcast by becoming a Patron today! https://patreon.com/robertaglasstruecrimereportThrow a tip in the tip jar! https://buymeacoffee.com/robertaglassSupport Roberta by sending a donation via Venmo. https://venmo.com/robertaglassBecome a channnel member for custom Emojis, first looks and exclusive streams here: https://youtube.com/@robertaglass/joinThank you Patrons!lKaren Pacini, Jen Buell, Marie Horton, ER, Rosie Grace, B. Tudo vem das mãos do Senhor e tudo é grandioso.

This podcast is a part of a collection of podcasts recorded at ISC West 2025 and previously shared on social media. At ISC West 2025, BluebirdSales.io, an outsourced sales and marketing firm dedicated to the technology sector, showcased its deepening partnership with floLIVE, a global cellular MVNO (mobile virtual network operator) known for simplifying and scaling connectivity in security and IoT applications. Tom Dever, president and self-described “strategy guy” at BluebirdSales.io, explained the company's mission: “We're not just about sales—we're about helping technology companies build strategic paths to market. That means understanding the technical problems and delivering the right solutions to the right partners.” At ISC West, Dever and his team were onsite supporting floLIVE's booth, helping introduce the company's carrier-agnostic connectivity to a range of security-focused exhibitors and attendees. floLIVE enables OEMs and integrators to embed global, multi-carrier eSIMs into their products, providing automatic access to networks like AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, and U.S. Cellular—with no need for separate SKUs or carrier contracts. “It's a game-changer for manufacturers,” said Dever. “One SIM, one integration, and you're connected nearly anywhere.” floLIVE's technology is especially useful for security and monitoring devices—such as IP cameras and smart sensors—that need to transmit critical data from remote or variable locations. Their local IMSI capabilities ensure compliance with global data sovereignty rules, converting devices into local nodes on the cellular network and avoiding roaming restrictions in regions like Brazil and Turkey. Dever also spotlighted floLIVE's channel-friendly approach. MSPs and MSSPs can white-label floLIVE's platform or refer it as a connectivity solution, offering new revenue streams while enhancing customer deployments. “Partners can resell the service or embed it in their offerings—either way, it's a win-win,” he said. In addition to floLIVE, BluebirdSales.io is also engaged with global tech brands like Arduino and Grin. The latter showcased an M.2 module at ISC West featuring floLIVE-enabled connectivity with both cellular and Skylo satellite support—ideal for rugged deployments in agriculture, energy, or isolated security locations. BluebirdSales.io continues to bridge the gap between innovative products and effective go-to-market execution. As connectivity becomes increasingly central to physical security solutions, partnerships like the one between BluebirdSales and floLIVE are helping integrators, manufacturers, and MSPs meet the moment—with confidence and scale.
