In this episode of Postcards from the Kitchen, we continue our deep dive into the world of food banks with Derrick Chubbs, President and CEO of the Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida. Derrick shares eye-opening insights into the challenges faced by food banks, the critical role they play in addressing hunger as a public health crisis, and the innovative ways they are partnering with healthcare organizations to promote healthier lifestyles.Derrick also highlights how everyone can get involved in their local communities to make a difference—whether through advocating, volunteering, donating, or simply spreading awareness. From the surprising fact that food banks purchase a significant portion of the food they distribute to the importance of the farm bill, this episode is packed with valuable information that will inspire you to take action.Key Points: 1. Hunger as a Public Health Crisis: • Hunger is not just a social issue; it is a significant public health crisis that affects millions across the United States. • Food banks play a vital role in addressing this crisis by providing nutritious meals to those in need. 2. Partnerships with Healthcare: • Innovative partnerships with healthcare organizations and insurance companies are crucial in promoting healthy eating and reducing long-term health issues like diabetes. • Data tracking shows the positive impact of healthy eating on conditions like A1c levels in diabetes patients. 3. Ways to Get Involved: • Advocating: Start by spreading awareness about local hunger challenges within your networks. • Volunteering: Food banks rely heavily on volunteers—32,000 annually for Second Harvest—saving millions of dollars. • Donating: Every dollar counts. Food banks can stretch donations to provide more meals, with $1 translating into four meals. • Connecting: Help those in need find their local food bank through tools like the “Find Food Now” tool. 4. The Reality of Food Banks: • While many assume food banks rely solely on donations, a significant portion of the food is purchased to ensure a balanced diet for recipients. • The cost of food for food banks has doubled, with Second Harvest spending over $10 million annually on food purchases. 5. Feeding America's Network: • Feeding America assists in logistics, helping food banks across the nation by facilitating large-scale food donations from major companies. Keywords: • Food banks • Public health crisis • Hunger in America • Community involvement • Volunteering • Donations • Second Harvest Food Bank • Feeding America • Healthy eating • Food securityVisit Feeding America or Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida to learn more, find your local food bank, and discover how you can get involved in the fight against hunger.Thank you for tuning in! In this episode of “Postcards from the Kitchen,” host Elaine Acker sits down with Derrick Chubbs, CEO of Central Florida's Second Harvest Food Bank, to discuss the critical role food banks play in disaster response and ongoing community support. With a background in disaster management from the American Red Cross, Derek shares how his experiences prepared him—or, in some ways, didn't—for the challenges of leading a large-scale food distribution network.Keynotes: 1. Transition from Disaster Response to Food Security: Derrick reflects on how logistical skills from disaster management were both helpful and limited in addressing the complexities of food banking, such as supply chain management and distribution partnerships. 2. Food Banks' Role in Disasters: Food banks often serve as first responders in disaster scenarios, working closely with organizations like the Red Cross to ensure food security during crises. 3. Operational Challenges: The conversation delves into the operational intricacies of running a food bank, including managing audits, distribution channels, and the diverse needs of over 750 partner agencies. 4. Growing Demand for Food Assistance: Derrick highlights the alarming increase in food insecurity post-pandemic, exacerbated by inflation and rising living costs, leading to a surge in demand for meals—now back to 300,000 meals a day. 5. Health and Food Connectivity: A discussion on how Second Harvest is innovating with medically tailored meals for individuals with specific health conditions, like renal failure, emphasizing the importance of nutrition in healthcare. 6. Community Impact: Derek underscores the multifaceted role of food banks, which extend beyond food distribution to include educational programs, culinary training, and health initiatives that support vulnerable populations, including children and seniors. Keywords: Food Security, Disaster Response, Food Banks, Community Support, Supply Chain Management, Hunger Relief, Health and Nutrition, Medically Tailored Meals, Second Harvest Food Bank, Feeding America. This episode provides a deep dive into the critical and often overlooked role food banks play in not just feeding communities but also supporting overall public health and resilience during times of crisis.Do you want to publish a cookbook? Hey y'all it's the intern again. Way behind on this episode. The bosses already scolded me and took away my water allowance for the month so I don't need to hear it from you! Anyway, good episode here as always. Tom is mad about water, Beef breaks his camera, and Chubbs is not built for water sports (too fat). Advice no one asked for: wipe front to back. Like what are you doing man.
On this week's episode of You're Wrong... And Here's Why, your hosts Chris Horwedel and Greg Crone start off by talking a bit about Caitlyn Clark's adjustment to the WNBA and talk about a potential teammate of hers. They then move into discussing the new NCAA Football 25' trailer, the announcement of Happy Gilmore 2, the MLB, NBA Playoffs, and more!
We've finally found our home on the putting green and covered Happy Gilmore, the seminal millennial sports comedy classic that largely inspired us to start this podcast. If you love Happy, Chubbs, Shooter, Subway ad placements, hockey shenanigans, and the rest of the 90s Happy Madison crew as much as we do, then you've stopped by your happy place! Grab a pitcher of beer and gallop that horse-y around your own personal heaven cause you've hit jackpot! And stay tuned, because Happy Gilmore is the first in a bracket of Sandler vs. Ferrell sports comedies coming your way this spring and summer! Cheers!
The boys are back at it (except for Beef for the first minute). I'm in trouble again because I'm behind on editing so my salary has been reduced from $0 to -$15/hr. I am now paying these clowns money to work for them. Whatever. This episode took a lot of work to edit. The guys really need to reel things in here so I don't have to cut so much. Beef hates chocolate (no surprise there) but loves Casey's pizza, almost a little too much. Tom carries the show for a bit while Chubbs and Beef turn their brains on. Then they wrap it all up by giving advice to a creepy old man. Great show all around.Sub to socials plz thx.
Damon, Damo, and Tisha are joined by COMNAVSURFPAC CMDCM Charles “Chubbs” Smith for an episode full of jewels. The crew starts just catching up with each other to see how things are going. Chubbs talks about the power of having a squared-away uniform, remembering a sea story from his time as an undesignated Seamon. He then discusses passing on the legacy of service to his son, who's currently enlisted in the Navy. Damo talks to Chubbs about being the “first-generation” of family members to achieve certain things. They discuss the idea of unapologetically being yourself. Tisha asks Chubbs about the differences between being a TYCOM Command Master Chief and being the CMC of a vessel/command. Chubbs remembers one of his craziest DRB experiences and talks about how he holds his Chiefs accountable in the event they violate UCMJ. Has the Navy recovered from COVID? Damo and Chubbs have a light debate about the differences they've seen in the recovery process. We can't talk about Covid without discussing extremism. How did Chubbs' TRIAD handle the protests? Experiences with racism are expressed. Chubbs drops some jewels for any Senior Enlisted Leader going to their first command. Board Eligible results are out! What's next for eligible Sailors? Chubbs gives advice to all the Sailors that are up for Chief. Tish asks about marriage and personal life. Chubbs provides an entry to our #DoBetter segment about collateral duties and manning issues. Damon has a “selfish” #DoBetter for retirees. Remember to follow the ‘Permission to Speak Freely' podcast on TikTok, Facebook, Discord, Instagram, and Twitter, and subscribe on YouTube. Kenny is always an entertaining guest to have on the show, and this episode is no different. Not only is there a great deal of turkey talk and laughs, but we even get to discuss banana pudding and nilla wafers. We all get down a few rabbit holes in this interview, but that is part of what makes Kenny's interviews so fun and popular. Listen in! Episode 90! Only 10 episodes and 3-5 business years away from episode 100! The bosses have a good one today. Chubbs is already senile at the ripe age of 26 but still manages to score a goal in hockey, Beef snores so loud it causes an Earthquake in California, and Tom suggests a woman who snores should flashbang her boyfriend to solve the issue. Great intellectual conversations as always on this one. Also, my pay got docked because I'm behind on editing episodes, but I don't get paid anything anyway since I'm an intern. Whatever, subscribe to our socials.

Welcome to Waxing the Porpoise, the podcast that dives deep into the unexplored depths of cinema and occasionally the unexplained. This week G-Baby and the Usual Suspect Steve raise the flag and welcome back esteemed guest of honor (Ruth's) Chris from the Mount Molehill podcast to rap about a flick he recommended - Bad Influence from 1990 starring James Spader and Rob Lowe, a film that Chris has categorized under the sub-subgenre he coined himself "the disruptive stranger" which perfectly encapsulates the essence of the film and I'm stealing the phrase effective immediately. Join us as we dive in fin first to discuss one of the best colloquialisms of all time - in this case for the harmonica aka the mouth harp and almost get sidetracked with future plans to cover Crossroads starring Jami Gertz and Ralph Macchio. We'll also discuss the films odd similarities to I Love You Man, and touch on G-Baby's new obnoxious Tank Girl/Aquabats/Simon Birch glasses. The porpoises, midnight companions and keen observers, ride the waves of intrigue in this tantalizing punch bowl of suspense, psychological manipulation, and moral ambiguity - just the kind of cocktail we've come to expect here at WTP. Special note - we recorded this episode the day before the terrible news of Carl Weathers' passing and we happened to mention him at the top of the episode by pure happenstance. Besides being an iconic action star in films we've all seen a hundred times from Apollo Creed to Action Jackson to Predator to Chubbs, by all accounts he was one of the great humans in the world -- thus from this point forth, he shall be posthumously recognized as one of our patron saints. So pour one out, rest in peace Chubbs - good night sweet prince. We've only just begun to live, white lace and promises baby. Let's wax this disruptive porpoise. https://linktr.ee/waxtheporpoise #RIPCarlWeathers #chubbs #film #thriller #disruptivestranger #waxit Always an honor to have Ruth's Chris's on - please be sure to support his excellent show Mount Molehill, where even the smallest mysteries become mountains. We hear from one of our former interns who was nominated for a Grammy for his work on a video game soundtrack. There aren't many actors that everyone will attest to just being an all-around great guy. Carl Weathers was one of those people. You may have first hated him as Apollo Creed in the Rocky movies, but I bet you jumped out of your seat when Rocky beat Apollo while racing down the beach in Rocky 3. And I guarantee you were the first to cry when his character is beaten to death by Ivan Drago in Rocky 4. He shined in whatever role he was given. Chubbs in Happy Gilmore. Freddie in The Comebacks. And even Carl playing Carl in Arrested Development. Today, when we heard Carl had passed away at age 76, we thought about those 10 minutes. What a gift it was. Thanks for the memories, Carl. We will definitely miss you. Here's our 2009 conversation with the late, great Carl Weathers. The Stuck in the '80s podcast is sponsored by The 80s Cruise. Oh look! It is our annual Christmas Special! This year, our gift to you is an in-person episode with terrible audio! There are some good parts though. Chubbs has a gift for Beef and Tom, and in return Tom has Chubbs wear a shock collar. Plenty of guests, sponsors, and producers this year too! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone, rest in peace to your ears! Follow our socials thx.
Dang this one is super spooky. Tom is very pro-recycling, Beef is bringing back denim, and Chubbs put together his costume two minutes before recording. It's the Halloween episode! There are maybe like 3 parts that have anything to do with Halloween. There is a lot of very bad podcasting out there, but this one might take the cake. Tom opens wine with power tools (it's just my toothbrush Dad), Beef hates pretty much every food that isn't something from Culvers, and Chubbs has beef with Chipotle, well actually no he doesn't because they're all out. Enjoy! Or Don't! follow us on socials. thx.
We are joined this week by a fellow Parkland survivor, Danielle Gilbert. Danielle talks about her experiences from that day, the challenges she experienced, and the ways she healed (with Chubbs). For inquires: triggertherapypodcast@gmail.com IG: @triggertherapypodcast Triggertherapypodcast.com
The bosses are back and so am I! Interns have never been cooler. Great news is I have a job again. Bad news is I am still not getting paid and not sure that I ever will. Anyway the guys are back and discussing all of the same stupid stuff they did less than a year ago. Beef has some 'What Would You Do?' scenarios for Chubbs and Tom, the boys chime in on some people asking the internet for advice, and Beef has some pretty fantastic questions that will really stretch your brain. Side note: the video format of this pod looks wayyyy different because the bosses have outsourced all editing to the intern. So I'm cutting corners left and right. Might even drop some hints in some future episodes just for shiggs. Follow our socials, we never post there.
On this week's very special bonus episode, y'all had so much to say this week we had to record an entirely separate episode just devoted to mailbag! It's also just a real free wheelin' kind of a deal of an episode. The guys quibble about if they should actually intro the show, Aviv is dog sitting and shares how Chubbs continues to escape. Matt and Cassie return from Vegas and had a great time. All this and more!Give us a rate and review wherever fine podcasts are sold, tweet at us @svupodcast (which we cannot stress enough is the official Twitter handle of Law and Order SVU, and you can take that to the bank, the blood bank senator!) and for longer or weirder stuff, or tweet sized emails because fuck Elon Musk, send us an email specialviewingunit@gmail.comThis show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/5621744/advertisement

The Turkey Hunter Podcast with Andy Gagliano | Turkey Hunting Tips, Strategies, and Stories
Turkey Talk with Kenny Mount Part 2 This week, Cameron and Andy share part 2 of the interview with Kenny Mount, aka Chubbs. They also share some stories, lots of laughs, and some BS with Kenny as well. Cameron and Andy riddle Kenny with listener questions that were submitted to Cameron's IG account. Kenny takes the questions in stride and offers quite entertaining and thoughtful answers. The guys discuss social media and wild turkeys, slings, cigar smoking, hunting small tracts of land, pet peeves while hunting, and several other topics. This is a very entertaining episode. Listen in!
