We take you behind the scenes of one of the most unique — and heartwarming — challenges we've ever taken on: riding “it's a small world” at Magic Kingdom for 10 straight hours to raise money for the Dream Team Project, which supports Make-A-Wish. That's right — boat after boat, loop after loop, song after song — all for a cause that's close to our hearts. We share what inspired us to take on this seemingly never-ending voyage, how the idea came to life, and why giving back through the Main Street 16 Challenge Weekend has become such an important part of what we do. You'll hear the highs, the unexpected moments of hilarity, the not-so-magical parts, and the emotional impact of seeing our community come together to support something bigger than all of us.Throughout the day, we were joined by incredible friends, fellow Disney fans, and Main Street Magic listeners who hopped into boats with us — whether for one loop or several — and helped turn this challenge into a celebration of connection, kindness, and of course… a little bit of madness. We also cover how this event ties into the larger Main Street 16 Challenge Weekend, including race day fun, the scavenger hunt through Disney Springs, and our continued mission to support the Dream Team Project.Whether you love the ride or dread the tune, this episode is packed with magic, meaning, and memories. Tune in for the full recap and find out just how many loops we survived (spoiler: a lot).Main Street 16 Challenge Weekend is coming! May 15th – May 18th, 2025 in Walt Disney WorldThis event is a way to bring our community together and rally to raise money for a great cause. Part social gathering, part scavenger hunt, part ride challenge, Main Street 16 is a combination of all the things we love about the Disney Parks—The rides, the details, and most importantly, the people. And this event is about giving back to extraordinary people.BENEFITING THE DREAM TEAM PROJECTThe funds raised during the Main Street 16 Challenge Weekend benefit the Dream Team Project, an initiative founded by Lou Mongello of WDW Radio. The U.S. correctional system is responsible for having 10 times the number  of mentally ill patients receiving treatment than any state psychiatric hospital. People with serious mental disorders are 4 times more likely to be incarcerated for minor charges, such as disorderly conduct. Inmates with schizophrenia also remain in prison longer than others. Host Rachel Star Withers and cohost Gabe Howard examine the effect prison has on people with schizophrenia and the connections between living with schizophrenia and incarceration.  Guest Lloyd Hale joins us to discuss living with schizophrenia and his time in the correctional system after he was convicted of murder. Years later, he was found not guilty by reason of insanity.  About Our Guest Lloyd Hale is a father, certified peer specialist, and the founder of RIDE 4 S.P.M.I. (Ride 4 Serious and Persistent Mental Illness), a 210-mile bike ride across South Carolina to raise awareness around mental illness. As someone living well with schizophrenia, Lloyd has devoted his life to sharing his story in the hopes that others will seek treatment and receive the help and support they need. Lloyd has partnered with SC SHARE (South Carolina Self Help Association Regarding Emotions) to champion the READY FOR LIFE project and THE DREAM TEAM PROJECT, which aims to start healthy conversations in rural areas with youths and their families about mental health and resources in their community.  Featured in the Bevocalspeakup documentary “Beyond Silence” with executive producer, singer and songwriter Demi Lovato. While we love traveling to the Disney Parks, one of the saddest moments is having to leave. Whether it happens when you're boarding the Magical Express, crossing through the gates from Walt Disney World, boarding your plane, or arriving at your front door, the "Disney blues" are bound to set in at some point. To help cope with these Disney blues, we as Disney fans often purchase merchandise, watch videos, listen to Disney music and even light scented candles to help us rekindle that magic. In today's episode, we'll discuss our favorite ways to bring the Disney magic home with us. How do you cope with the "Disney blues" after your vacation? Welcome to our first "Disney This or That" podcast episode! Disney This or That is a game that is meant to stir up conversation and debate about our Disney favorites - favorite Disney Parks, attractions, movies, snacks, and much more. In today's episode (volume one), we debate who we would pick as our favorite Disney hero from the Disney animated movies between 1990 and 2018. Examples include Aladdin, Hercules, Mulan, Moana, Mr. Incredible and more. With so many animated Disney characters to choose from, you'll hear why we had so many differing opinions on the subject. Which Disney animated hero is your favorite? Would you have chosen a winner differently or do you agree with our group's decision? Send me your feedback via email or through direct or public message at any of the following and [with your permission] I'll include your message in a future show: Facebook: www.facebook.com/ImagineerPodcast Instagram: www.instagram.com/ImagineerPodcast Twitter: www.twitter.com/ImagineerAudio Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/imagineerpodcast/ NEW! I've known Lou Mongello for quite a while now. A couple of years, really. But I wanted to hold off on asking your favorite Disney Expert for an interview until I knew that I could ask him all of the most hard-hitting questions he'd ever get in a podcast interview. Actually, that's not completely true. I just wanted to make sure I wouldn't be in over my head on this week's show, Episode 50: A Conversation With Lou Mongello. Lou Mongello is a Disney Expert, a public speaker, a podcaster, and one of the most well-known Disney celebrities around today (even though he's never worked for the Disney Company.) He is a Disney fan first which makes him the real deal when it comes to talking all things Disney. This week I was so excited to get to talk a little bit of WDW with my friend and mentor, Lou Mongello. You can find Lou and pretty much everything he does over at loumongello.com and wdwradio.com To donate to Lou's Dream Team Project that benefits the Make-A-Wish Foundation, click HERE.

In this episode of Keep Moving Forward I interview the original Disney entrepreneur, Lou Mongello. What would you say if I told you that you could actually “live the dream”? I don’t mean it in a sarcastic way, nor do I mean it as this far-fetched notion that can never become reality. But what if you could actually live your dream? Turn the biggest passion of your life into a lucrative business venture? Lou Mongello is living proof that this dream career of yours is within reach. Lou dropped everything, moved from New Jersey to Orlando, abandoning two successful careers as both a litigator and an IT Consultant to chase a business idea spurned by his passion: a love of Walt Disney World. Today, he hosts WDW Radio, a 9x Best Travel Podcast; has written numerous books; began the Dream Team Project which helps children with severe illnesses and their families make a trip to Walt Disney World possible; and is a renowned speaker, hosting entrepreneurship conferences all over the country. Lou decided that he was tired of not pursuing his true ambition...so he just decided to start. He is the embodiment of the Walt Disney quote “the way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing” and his enthusiasm is contagious. Every dream that you dream really can come true, so long as you’re willing to work hard enough to achieve it. It was a privilege to speak with the man who turned his love of Disney into a successful business and I hope that you enjoy my discussion with the original Disney entrepreneur, Lou Mongello. If you would like to learn more about Lou, you can visit http://www.loumongello.com/ and keep up to date with his podcast by subscribing on iTunes under WDW Radio and at http://www.wdwradio.com/. Furthermore, you can follow him on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter @LouMongello and @WDWRadio. Always remember, you can beat the odds and go the distance, if only you keep moving forward.

We're so excited to chat with Lou as our featured guest on this episode of Gen X Amplified. During our conversation, Lou talks about his journey from being a lawyer, to trusting his instincts and embracing his knowledge and love for Disney - and then turning that into a lucrative career. Key Takeaways From This Episode: How Lou first became fascinated with the wonders and magic of Walt Disney World. What was the original name of Lou's Disney-related podcast? How you can stand out in a competitive market because of your unique personal brand and story. The reason why Lou puts more priority on the quality on content he produces and providing value, and does not focus on subscriber and download numbers. This is show #66 for the week of May 11, 2008. First things first – Happy Mother's Day to all moms and mothers to be. Now on to the show… There's no news this week, as I produced the show early in anticipation of my Walt Disney World trip, but I have a number of segments I think you'll enjoy. This week, I wanted to address a question that many of you have sent to me via email and voicemail, which involves staying off Disney property and renting a vacation home. Steve Trover, CEO of All Star Vacation Homes joins me to answer many of your frequently asked questions, as well as looks at the pros and cons of renting a vacation home, who is might be right for and who it’s not, addresses some possible concerns, and talks about the process. It's a great primer on renting a vacation home, and you just might be surprised as to some of the reasons why it might be a viable option for you and your family. One of the most important aspects of what I do is that of giving back to others with the help of so many people through my Dream Team Project. Of course, I'm certainly not the only one, and as I’ve done in the past, this week I want to profile someone who is truly making magic, and a very big difference, in the lives of children and families that need it most. He is Bert Weiss, a radio personality at Q100 in Atlanta and founder of Bert's Big Adventure, an all expense paid trip to Walt Disney World for families that have children with life-threatening illnesses. It is an inspirational story that once again demonstrates the incredible generosity and dedication of people in the community as a whole. I also welcome back Jeff Pepper to join me in exploring not just a hidden treasure and character connection, but a fun place to grab a hot dog and a Coke, ride the bleachers and catch a few toons. So we’ll take you out to the ballgame at Casey’s Corner on Main Street, USA. So to all you moms out there, sit back, relax and enjoy this week's episode of the WDW Radio Show. In the Walt Disney World Rumor Mill, I have some listener-submitted rumors about the DVC, changes to one of Main Street, USA's original stores, Space Mountain, and are there big changes coming to a pavilion in World Showcase? In the next of my Legends of Disney Imagineering interview series, I have a chance to sit down and talk with a man who has not only worked on the recent updates to Pirates of the Caribbean and the Haunted Mansion, but wrote the definite books on those subjects. He is Jason Surrell, and his latest book is all about Imagineering at its Peak, as he covers all of the Disney Mountains. We talk about the book, Imagineering and the Imagineers, and Jason gives us the exclusive sneak peek on what major project he's working on next. Hang on to them hats and glasses, ‘cause this here's an interview that I'm sure you're going to enjoy. Walt Disney World is full of Hidden Treasures, and I love being able to introduce you to them on the show. While some may be small and relatively unknown, there are others that are hidden in plain sight. Disney's Boardwalk is just one of those, as it is filled with countless hidden treasures including shops, restaurants, entertainment and unique experiences. Listener Jamie Curci joins me to explore the promenade in detail and familiarize you with all that it has to offer. I talk about why we do what we do, and the efforts of my DisneyWorldTrivia.com Dream Team Project to give back to the community and help those who are less fortunate and in need of some true Disney Magic. This week, I'll announce another of our efforts, the 25 Days of Disney Giving, again thanks to a listener, where you can help the Make A Wish Foundation of America, and wind up with some great Disney memorabilia for yourself. And speaking of the Dream Team, we'll announce the winner of our Walt Disney World Half Marathon Challenge Contest, and Matt Hochberg joins Eric Hollister and myself to present the clues to our next challenge. There's a lot of fun and interesting things to cover this week, so as always, sit back, relax and enjoy this week's episode of the WDW Radio Show. Welcome to the WDW Radio Show. This is Show #23 for the week of July 15, 2007, and thank you for tuning in once again. This week's show will be just a bit different, due to this weekend's MagicMeet, so there won't be any news or email due to when I had to record and get the show up, but I promise to make up for it next week as I already have a whole lot of news to cover, and tons of your emails to get through. My apologies again for the delay in getting them read on the air. But unlike last week's show with one detailed segment, there's a whole bunch of great topics to cover with plenty of special guests, including "Walt Disney World: Fact or Fiction?" with Cody Pepper, who proves the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, and Hidden Treasures with Gary Chambers. This week's visit to the Walt Disney World Rumor Mill is full of exciting and interesting rumors about the Disney-MGM Studios, Spaceship Earth, Space Mountain and more. In our Character Connection segment, Jeff Pepper and I talk about the Duck behind the Magic of Mickey's Toontown Fair, Cornelius Coot. Jonathan Dichter's Voices Behind the Magic covers the talented Angela Lansbury and Mike Scopa joins me for another Best of the Best - this time, it's the Best General Rule for Touring the Parks. We will also announce the winner of our first WDW 1/2 Marathon Challenge contest, and introduce our second Challenge, where you can play for a chance to win great prizes and entry to win our Grand Prize at the end of the contest. Thanks to Eric Hollister from GeoMouse.com, this contest will help make a child's wish come true, through his donations to the DisneyWorldTrivia.com Dream Team Project. Sit back, relax and enjoy this week’s episode of the WDW Radio Show. You can email the show at lou@wdwradio.com or call the voicemail at 206-202-4WDW. Welcome to Show #21 of the WDW Radio Show for the week of July, 2007, and thanks for tuning in once again. I'm your host Lou Mongello, and I have a lot of fun segments planned for you this week. My visit to the Walt Disney World Rumor Mill includes discussion and audio evidencing some possible big changes and improvements to the resort and ADR reservation systems, plenty of rumors from the Disney-MGM Studios, an abandoned venue, as well as a possible new addition to Cinderella Castle, and the Canada pavilion in World Showcase. Eric Hollister and I introduce the first of our Walt Disney World Marathon Contest challenges, and I announce the winner of our first "Where in the World Have You Seen This?" Contest. I announce the next in our 7 Wonders of Walt Disney World series - the Walt Disney World monorail, and discuss with Jeff Pepper its origins, technology, fun facts and intangible qualities that make it a true wonder. Fred Block's Magic Meet event is coming up soon, and once again he was kind enough to allow us to hold our DisneyWorldTrivia.com Dream Team Project charity auction to benefit the Make a Wish Foundation of America. Pat Whitson joins me to talk about the auction, some of the amazing items and experiences which are included, as well as how the generosity of so many Disney fans will once again help make a seriously-ill child’s wish come true to visit Walt Disney World. Gary Chambers joins me for another Hidden Treasure of Walt Disney World, this time in Epcot. This week's email segment talks about handheld technology in the parks, July 4 fireworks in WDW, Adventureland then and now, Seasonal vs. Annual passes and so much more. You can email the show at lou@wdwradio.com or call the voicemail at 206-202-4WDW.
