As the cherry blossoms in D.C. began to burst into bloom, we laced up for an episode infused with the vibrancy of spring races and heartfelt stories from the running tracks. We're over the moon to bring you episode 133 of Rise and Run, where the warmth of community triumphs and the spirit of giving shines as brightly as a medal at the finish line. Our conversation takes us from the buzz of the 2025 Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend to the Cherry Blossom 10-Miler, all while emphasizing the joy of connection in our ever-supportive running family. In the heart of this episode, we're joined by Ken Facey from Give Kids the World, who shares with us the profoundly touching work of the charity, bringing dreams to life for critically ill children and their families through dream vacations. Ken's stories are a powerful reminder of the difference we can make, running not just for personal glory, but for a cause that echoes far beyond the pounding of sneakers on pavement. Wrapping it all up, we jaunt through a medley of race recaps and personal stories that exemplify the essence of our running community. Each step taken is a narrative woven into the larger tapestry that is the runners' collective journey. Whether it's tales of pirate-themed sprints or personal records smashed, we celebrate each achievement together. Join us, as we bring the heartbeat of this community to your ears, inspiring you to tie up those shoelaces and join in the grand marathon of life.Give Kids the World LinksGive Kids The WorldGKTW Gingerbread RunRun GKTW Charity Bibs Rise and Run LinksRise and Run Podcast Facebook PageRise and Run Podcast InstagramRise and Run Podcast Website and ShopRise and Run PatreonPassport to RunRunningwithalysha Alysha's Run Coaching (Mention Rise And Run and get $10 off)Support the showRise and Run Podcast is supported by our audience. Surprise! We are in between seasons, but we wanted to share our experience at 2024 Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend. Join us for a full rundown including the details of the "modified" half marathon course. We, also, came up with a few original race weekend ideas. Let us know whose idea you liked most!Congrats to all the runDisney runners across Walt Disney World and Disneyland over the past two weekends!
Standing side by side with the Pease brothers, Kyle and Brent, whose story of resilience and unity in the face of cerebral palsy has reshaped the contours of our spirits, we were reminded that the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend is more than just a race; it's a vibrant celebration of human potential. Within this episode, we're sharing the heart-tugging narratives of those who traversed the marathon's magical miles, including the emotional encounters with participants like William, who shed over 200 pounds to cross the finish line, and Glenn who returned to running post-brain surgery. The power of these stories lies not just in the triumphs, but in the transformative journeys that led each runner to the starting line.Weather may have rolled in with a plan of its own, but the runDisney community's spirit remained unshakable. We recount how a rainy half marathon day, reminiscent of a past half marathon's cancellation, became a testament to the unyielding support amongst runners, volunteers, and staff. The joyous defiance against the elements shone through as we reminisced about impromptu rain dances and finish line celebrations. We share a little behind-the-scenes look at weather contingencies, revealing the delicate balance of safety and sentiment that guides such challenging decisions.Wrapping up our marathon recap, laughter bubbles to the surface as we recount the light-hearted moments that punctuate the intensity of race weekends. From Carissa's punchy commentary that left an imprint of humor on the runners, to the playful naming of the anthem-singing Dapper Dans, we're embracing the full spectrum of marathon weekend experiences. Join us as we weave through the shared laughter, the collective focus, and the individual feats that make the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend an event where every step tells a story.Support the showLet Registered Dietitian Carissa Galloway lead you through a science-backed plan to transform the way you think about your diet.Visit www.GallowayCourse.com and use the code PODCAST at checkout for a great discount!Become a 321 Go! supporter. Annual Passholders were given more dates for previews, May 8 - 10, May 15-16, and May 18-21. DVC dates were booked in less than hour, while the AP dates lasted a little longer. Source: Disney Vacation Club email Polynesian Permit shows layout of the Disney has filed the first permit for the new Disney Vacation Club building at Disney's Polynesian Villas and Bungalows, and there is a layout image showing the location between the Fiji Building at the Polynesian and the wedding pavilion at the Grand Floridian. Though the plans do not provide a lot of detail, it does show the building along the water with a new parking area to the west. On the south side near the existing buildings is both a feature pool and a children's play area. Not surprisingly, there is no monorail station shown at the new resort, so members will have to walk to the exiting Polynesian station or take the slightly longer walk to the Grand Floridian station.
