United States Treasury bonds have long been viewed as a highly liquid investment with very little risk of default. They have served as a safe haven for investors and also provided a benchmark interest rate for mortgages, car loans, corporate debt, and other bonds. Typically, Treasury bond yields fall at times of financial stress as demand for Treasury securities rise. But this time is different. Bond prices have fallen and yields have risen in the wake of the policy volatility of the past month. Jeremy Stein joins EconoFact Chats to discuss the reasons for the increase in interest rates, its possible consequences, and policies to calm the bond market. Jeremy is the Moise Y. Safra Professor of Economics at Harvard University. Previously, he served as a member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve. He was also an advisor to the Treasury Secretary during the 2008 Global Financial Crisis.

Like most grunge music fans in the 90's, Jeremy formed his first garage band in 1995 and would spend the next decade playing in various clubs and bars in different groups throughout Washington, DC and Baltimore, also finding a new love in photography and working with bands on graphic design and the early stages of social media. In 2005, Jeremy moved to Florida after a fateful 2002 introduction to Rhonda, which happened oddly because of the band Creed. After getting married and starting a family, in 2015, Jeremy left the corporate world to form a marketing company, focusing on basketball and eventually professional speaking and podcasting. Living in Florida, a love of Walt Disney World grew and in 2017, after an abundance of questions from their family and friends about Disney, Jeremy and Rhonda decided to launch the Main Street Magic Podcast. Main Street Magic is hosted by Jeremy and Rhonda who, along with their 2 girls, have currently visited Disney World consecutively every month for over 5 years and continue to hit the parks and stay at the resorts on a regular basis to bring the latest content, news and reviews.
