Today on the show, I share my review of the 2024 Great American Pure Flix movie "Average Joe," featuring Eric Close, Amy Acker, Ezra Richardson, and Anabelle Holloway. This true story illustrates the impact one man can have on others when he surrenders to God and stands up for the truth, even if it means doing so alone. Listen and then stand boldly for Jesus!
Eric Close is an accomplished actor and director most recognized for his roles on television shows Without a Trace, Nashville and Suits. For decades, Eric has built an impressive career in Hollywood while staying true to his core values: faith, family, and purpose. Today, Eric shares how his faith has guided every step of his career, the intentional choices he and his wife made to keep their family strong, and how he's learned to embrace challenges as opportunities for growth. Plus, he opens up about his struggles with anxiety, the wisdom he's gained from Hollywood icons like Clint Eastwood, and his experience portraying Coach Joe Kennedy in Average Joe—a man whose simple act of prayer after football games sparked national controversy. My friends, if you've ever questioned your path, battled self-doubt, or needed reassurance that your struggles have meaning, this conversation is for you. You'll leave with a reminder that we are never alone and the encouragement to stand firm in your beliefs.
In this episode, host Alita Reynolds sits down with special guests Coach Joe Kennedy and actor Eric Close, who stars in the upcoming film Average Joe, based on Coach Kennedy's life. Together, they discuss the incredible story behind the movie, the challenges and triumphs that led to its creation, and the experience of seeing real-life events unfold on the big screen. Eric shares insights into portraying Coach Kennedy, while Coach reflects on being represented in a feature film. Don't miss the conversation, and be sure to catch Average Joe in theaters on October 11!Watch the trailer, get tickets and learn more here.
Scripture says, "The battle belongs to the Lord", (1 Samuel 17:47). Coach Joe Kennedy can attest to that. His whole life of trials and frustrations, anger and pain, were preparing him for a battle over the right to pray on a football field. Kennedy is famous for winning a Supreme Court case in 2022, after being fired for praying on the 50 yard line after every game, as he promised God he would do, win or lose. Now a major motion picture will be released about his life and court battle. Actor Eric Close (Nashville, Suits, American Sniper), portrays Kennedy in the film. On this episode of Lighthouse Faith podcast, Kennedy and Close talk about making the film, and how they worked together in understanding Joe's journey from being a forgotten child, tossed between homes and growing up angry, to becoming a Marine, marriage, and then to a high school football coach. All the while, says Kennedy, God's hand was there. He says, "I didn't see until later in life that God had his fingerprints all the way from when I was in the womb, and all those trials and tribulations I went through. I didn't see how they fit all the puzzle pieces into the bigger picture, and it prepared me for the Marine Corps, prepared me for this battle." Learn more about your ad choices. I'm pretty excited to tell you about today's guest, Tanya Christiansen, because she's an actress who recently played in the movie, The Mulligan with Eric Close and Pat Boone. I've never interviewed an actress and it was so fun to go behind the scenes with her and hear how movies come together and the comradery that's shared between the cast and crew. Now, you may be wondering how a movie relates to building strong homes. Well, entertainment is a big part of Christian families' lives and it's really hard to find good quality movies that are clean, have a good moral and story and can be watched by children. This movie is one of those rarities. So, listen to my conversation with Tanya and find out why The Mulligan is a great movie to see. It's the story of second chances through the power of Jesus Christ. Tanya also shares about being in the movie, I Still Believe, based on Jeremy Camp losing his first wife to cancer. That's another great movie recommendation. I hope this episode will encourage you to support Christian entertainment so more good quality movies and TV shows will be made.
