Learn more about The Promise and Power of Easter here. Find out more about CH Ministries here Today's conversation on Back Porch Theology is the second to last in our series The Theology of Worship, and it's a really special moment for Alli and me because we get to share two dear friends with y'all for the first time here on BPT, Jeremy and Adie Camp. Of course, many of you are probably already familiar with Jeremy because while he's only 46, he's already a legend in Christian music with over 6 million albums sold, 44 #1 singles, and more than 2 billion streams. And many of you probably watched the 2020 movie, I Still Believe, which tells the unforgettable story of how Jeremy's first wife, Melissa, died of cancer when she was very young, and how that tragic loss tested his faith, taught him how to hang onto the goodness of God when life is anything but good, and ultimately led him to Adie. The most believable believers I've ever met are those who've waded honestly through woundedness without letting go of God's hand. Those who've trudged through dark nights of the soul only to come out on the other side trusting Him more fully, despite still having questions that will never be answered this side of Glory. Jeremy and Adie are those kind of people. Alli and I love them and can unequivocally say that we see Jesus more clearly as a result of their friendship. I can almost guarantee that you will too after hanging out with them today so please grab your favorite beverage, a couple snacks, and your Bible and come camp out on the porch with the Camps and us!

This week, Tommy is joined by actress Britt Robertson who currently stars in The Merry Gentlemen on Netflix. You know and love Britt from roles in Life Unexpected, The Secret Circle, The Rookie:Feds, I Still Believe, and so much more. In The Merry Gentlemen, Britt plays Ashley, a Broadway dancer who returns home to save her parent's small-town nightclub by staging an all-male Christmas themed review, led by Chad Michael Murray. Yes, this movie is quite steamy, but it's also full of heart and Britt captures the magic of Christmas perfectly. Today, Britt opens up about why it was a no-brainer joining this film, her journey of learning that work doesn't have to be the only thing that defines who she is as a person, how she bonded with Chad Michael Murray over hair, what teaming up with him was like for this film, her ideal sequel idea, why sometimes you need to be pushed out of your circumstances to open the door for life-changing opportunities, why its okay to not always be in control, how she is now conscious of making sure all of her cups are as full as possible, some eye opening things she has learned in therapy, where she sees herself in the future professionally, why she doesn't like to go to movies with anyone she knows and so much more.Subscribe, rate and review this episode if you enjoyed this conversation!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Bekx hails from the Heart of the South-Atlanta, Georgia. A city teeming with talent and a remarkably diverse musical industry. And even though she moved to Catalina Island off the coast of Southern California at an early age, Atlanta had already left its mark on her life to come. As a child, she was drawn to the stage. First with impromptu, but very choreographed performances, as famous choreographers from LA would travel to Catalina, the Island of Romance, and work with developing the children there. Then, by her early teens, she found herself in front of audiences in more prominent settings, like the Wilshire Ebell Theater in LA, as well as the famous Casino Theater on Catalina Island. Now, Bekx has launched her career into the music industry as she draws off her childhood years spent camping, surfing, horseback riding, hunting and fishing, as well as her years of vocal training, performances, competitions and so much time just doing what she loves–singing. She has grown as a performer, as an artist and as a person–she has dedicated her life to chasing her musical dreams and is excited to share her story and her talents with anyone who will listen. Now, she is eager to introduce youto Bekx. The journey hasn't been easy. Bekx has had her share of growing pains, life lessons and difficult or deals along the way. But no matter what has happened, she has always overcome and has used those experiences to mold a fresh new outlook on life. As a songwriter and performer, she summons both the good times and the challenging as she seeks to breathe life into her music and invite others to feel the emotions behind her powerful vocals.Bekx has come a long way since Atlanta first left its mark. She has lived in multiple cities from coast to coast and met many diverse and influential people. In early 2019, the journey led her to Nashville, where she plans to leave her mark on listeners and labels alike. Already in her short time in Music City, she has been in the studio with Grammy-winning country artist Rebecca Lynn Howard and rising hip-hop star JC. She has worked alongside veteran artist & producer, Lincoln “Barnone” Morris. She released her first single, “Scissors”, in June 2019, and confidently celebrated its rise to #51 on the Music Row charts. She followed that release with an original and exciting Christmas song, “I Still Believe”, as well as her firstEP,Rabbit Hole. Recently, she has completed a radio tour across the southeast, made an appearance on the Red Carpet in LA at the Saturn Awards, and has performed twice at the music festival SXSW in Austin,TX. Bekx has been in the studio for the last three years, churning out the lyrics and vocals for all of her current and upcoming original releases. Now, she is working on her second studio EP and cannot wait to share her more of her compelling lyrics and formidable sound. Subscribe today for access to our full catalog of bonus episodes, including 2+ new episodes every month! www.patreon.com/boysbiblestudy Billing itself as a light-hearted Christian family film, MOMS' NIGHT OUT is accidentally a chilling indictment of millennial parenting. Allyson is a busy full-time stay-at-home mom with aspirations to run a famous mommy blog. Feeling unfulfilled in her role as a mother, she decides to decompress with a night on the town accompanied by her two best friends Sondra and Izzy. Despite the full support each mom gets from her family for a well-deserved break, the act of the moms leaving their respective houses triggers a series of chaotic and traumatic events that are supposed to be funny but are actually extremely stressful. Every character is a terrible communicator, and you get the sense that moms having fun disrupts some kind of ancient social order to the point of severe consequences for everyone involved. Directed by the Erwin brothers (I STILL BELIEVE), MOMS' NIGHT OUT is a competently-produced and commercially successful film, drawing appeal from its relatively star-studded cast including Sarah Drew (GREY'S ANATOMY) Sean Astin (LORD OF THE RINGS), Patricia Heaton (EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND) and country singer Trace Adkins. Even more important to us at Boys' Bible Study are featured performances by Christian film scene veterans Andrea Logan and also Alex Kendrick, one of the famous Kendrick Brothers, who have created and starred in some of the highest grossing Christian movies of all time. We were excited to watch MOMS' NIGHT OUT for Mothers' Day, but forgot, so we watched it for “Mothers' Day In July” and ended up being horrified by the film's grating millennial humor and depiction of each character as simultaneously whiny and helpless yet obsessively self-important. Bible Boy Julian calls the depcition of family in MOMS' NIGHT OUT “scarier than THE HANDMAID'S TALE” and we think our gentle listeners will agree. With the recent re-release of the breakthru Call album Reconciled on vinyl and remastered, we felt it was a good time to welcome back keyboardist Jim Goodwin and guitarist Tom Ferrier (for the first time) to go deep on the album that changed everything for the band. The album includes the powerful singles "Everywhere I Go" and "I Still Believe", which was made iconic by the "Sexy Sax Man" (and friend of the show) Tim Cappello in Lost Boys. We also discuss the spiritual lyrics by the late great frontman Michael Been, working with Peter Gabriel and Jim Kerr of Simple Minds, and whether the album qualifies as "Christian Rock". Oh, and what's the deal with the baby on the cover? All of this and more will be revealed, and you'll be reminded what a strong album this is. It's getting to be that time of year! You know, the time of year when it feels completely wild to tell someone that you listen to a year-round winter-holiday music podcast? But don't worry, we've got two listener requests to kick your holiday spirit back into high gear. "Bing Crosby Wrote Festive Christmas Songs" by Angry Snowmans is a cover that puts a right jolly twist on a punk standard. Then the upbeat "I Still Believe in Christmas" by The Fleshtones puts us in the mood for prancing, dancing, dashing, and dondering! (Side note: if you want to know the origins of all of Angry Snowmans' songs, someone did that legwork and posted it on reddit three years ago!) The ranking music in this episode is "Bob Dylan Wrote Propoganda Songs" by The Minutemen. Thank you to Kevin for these requests!

Bringing Light to the Silver Screen In the often-murky world of Hollywood filmmaking, where violence, strong language, and other dark elements reign supreme, Parker Adams, a 2014 graduate of Cedarville University, is on a mission to illuminate the silver screen with hope and light. Witnessing the emerging efforts of Christian filmmakers during his student years, Parker knew he wanted to be a part of this transformative movement. After graduating with a degree in communication and making an unlikely break into the film industry, Parker created his own company, 1520 Creative, which specializes in the grueling monthslong process of editing film and sifting through hours and hours of footage to create a cohesive story that will resonate with moviegoers. Driven by a passion to spread hope through cinema, Parker understands the power of successful films to carry messages of faith to even the most resistant corners of the world. By contributing to box office hits, he opens doors for these messages to reach audiences in countries where other forms of evangelism are restricted. Parker's journey has allowed him to contribute to the success of several major films including, Woodlawn, I Still Believe, A Week Away, Ordinary Angels, and, most recently, Unsung Hero. To delve deeper into Parker's mission of rewriting the narrative of hope, light, and redemption for the big screen, tune in to the Cedarville Stories Podcast.

On our latest weekly roundup, we are still trying to teach our kids about conveying urgency in their texts. What we're watching: We finished season 2 of Reservation Dogs with episodes 9 ("Offerings") and 10 ("I Still Believe"), two more opportunities to weep through our laughter and cheer on the Rez Dogs as they finally make it all the way to California.Catherine's library find this week is a sweet picture book called The World's Best Class Plant by Liz Garton Scanlon and Audrey Vernick, illustrated by Lynnor Bontigao, and starring a surprisingly cool spider plant named Jerry. In the archives, we revisit episodes in which we discussed the perils of punctuality (March 18, 2021); (not) following your passion (March 18, 2020); and the sting of rejection (March 19, 2018). Mentioned: "I'm Just Ken" at the Oscars; our episode Working Hard, or Hardly Working?.Next week, we'll watch Girls5Eva (which has moved to Netflix) and talk about all of season 3. Until then (and anytime you're in need), the archives are available.
NEW YEARS DAY singer Ash Costello joins us on this week's edition of The Loaded Radio Podcast NEW YEARS DAY announced their fifth studio album “Half Black Heart” in late 2023, following the release of the tracks “Vampyre” and “Secrets”. The record also features the band's 2022 hit “Hurts Like Hell” and more recent single “I Still Believe”. Last fall they also embarked on the “Kiss Of Death” tour with IN THIS MOMENT and ICE NINE KILLS, in addition to being featured on WWE NXT‘s “Halloween Havoc”. Kerrang! magazine counts NEW YEARS DAY among an elite handful of bands inspiring the next generation. Led by “the vibrant force of nature that is frontwoman Ash Costello,” NEW YEARS DAY unleash anthems of discontent and empowerment, delivered with gothic flair and theatrical bombast. Saints and sinners, victims and victors. In sound and vision, NEW YEARS DAY walk the line between darkness and light. The band's duality comes to fruition on “Half Black Heart”, an unrepentant and unashamed album championing discovery, from the darkest secrets to one's inner strength. Unrestrained fury collides with arena-ready glamor, confrontational DIY passion, and melodic hooks. “Hurts Like Hell”, “Vampyre”, “Bulletproof”, “Fearless”, the title track, and the rest of “Half Black Heart” join an already impressive catalog of songs, like “Come For Me”, “Skeletons”, “Kill Or Be Killed” and “Shut Up”. Fans have streamed “Angel Eyes” more than 14 million times on Spotify alone. “Victim To Villain” (2013),“Malevolence” (2015) and “Unbreakable” (2019) deeply resonate with listeners who cherish them as timeless keepsakes, marking different times in their own personal evolution. It's because Costello, who skillfully conjures horror and comic book aesthetics as allegory, is one of them. In cinematic music videos, transcendent live performances, and daily interaction (virtual or in-person) with like-minded misfits, this band makes pleasure from pain. Even when it hurts like hell. In the podcast, Ash Costello talks about the “reunion” of NEW YEARS DAY‘s classic lineup, how the band got involved with the WWE and Rhea Ripley, boring RAMMSTEIN after parties and tons more.

Even with champions like Peter Gabriel, U2, Jim Kerr, and others singing their praises, and songs like “The Walls Came Down,” “I Still Believe” and “Let The Day Begin” scratching out a presence on college and alternative radio, The Call never lived up to the commercial potential their fans knew they deserved. And when frontman, vocalist, and primary songwriter Michael Been passed away in 2010 while on the road with his son Robert Levon Been's band Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, it became heartbreakingly clear that The Call was on 80s band we would not be hearing more music from. Or would we? Recently the band found several previously unreleased – and in some cases unfinished songs. The surviving members regathered, adding fresh tracks to fill in the empty spaces, and giving them an incredible polish. They then reached out to fans via a new Kickstarter campaign to raise the funds necessary to release this LOST TAPES project – a campaign that closes in late February 2024. When the band reached out to us, to see if we would like to talk about this incredible project, we jumped at the chance. So on this special episode we sit down with keyboardist Jim Goodwin to hear not only about The Lost Tapes, but about what it was like to write songs, record, and perform with the band back in the day. Hopefully you heard our full-length special episode featuring a previously unheard 1994 interview with Been, rescued and restored from an ancient cassette tape. If not, please do. And if you have not backed the Kickstarter campaign, you can do that HERE. (We certainly hope you will.) A week late is better than not at all, right? YEAH we're off schedule and YEAH Walter still isn't on this episode and YEAH we're doing the best we can. Give us money and then we can do this full time. Until then? Shut up and listen.Oh yeah anyway this episode is the next in our ongoing series on faith-based films, both good and bad. I Still Believe, based on the true story, is about the Christian singer and song-writer Jeremy Camp as he deals with great tragedy and how it intertwines with his faith and career. Also KJ Apa plays Jeremy Camp for some reason. I'd have liked it if he played Jeremy Camp as Archie from Riverdale. That would've made it so much better.

I Still Believe. . . on and on and on, there seems to be no slowing down of "Christian" media (especially media that is being created for a profit!). Dennis visits the L.A. home of his friend Matt Zarley for Listening Party of the songs from Matt's newest project 11 O'Clock Number, a musical video project about a man who harnesses the power of musical theater songs to help him cope with lost love, losing his mother and the stresses of the pandemic. Matt talks about where the idea originated from, how working on the project helped keep him sane during the COVID lockdown and how he approached the vocals as if he was, in his words, “never going to sing again.” Matt also discusses why he chose each of the 12 tracks: “Never Enough” from The Greatest Showman, “Still Hurting” from The Last Five Years, “With You” from Ghost, “I'm Not That Girl” from Wicked, “I'd Give My Life For You” and “I Still Believe” from Miss Saigon, “Take Me Or Leave Me” from Rent, “He Used To Be Mine” from Waitress, “The Human Heart” from Once On This Island, “Anything But Lonely” from Aspects of Love, “I'm Here” from The Color Purple and “What I Did For Love” from A Chorus Line. Other topics include: Broadway curtain calls, stage door memories, baring almost all in Broadway Bares, the show that got away, his decades long friendship with Billy Porter and why he loves to sing. www.mattzarley.com

Long before the Twilight books and movies made vampires cool, the motion picture The Lost Boys was a hit. This dark comedy/action drama centers around Michael and Sam Emerson and their experiences with a biker gang who are secretly vampires living in the California beach town of Santa Carla. When Michael is drawn into the influence of the vampires, he must make a choice between becoming a vampire himself or fighting the conversion by killing the head vampire. The name comes from the Peter Pan stories, because much like the lost boys in that tale, vampires never grow up. The cast included Kiefer Sutherland, Jason Patric, Corey Haim, and Corey Feldman, and was a box office hit.The film also created a hit with The Lost Boys: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. Featuring a number of notable rock stars and groups including INXS, Foreigner's Lou Gramm, Echo & the Bunnymen, and The Who's Roger Daltrey, it spawned multiple singles. The soundtrack contains both original songs and covers, all either alluding to events in the movie or to what could be considered “vampire culture” - lostness, staying up at night, and similar characteristics. The film is credited for changing the perception of vampires to a more youthful and appealing monster. Subsequent adaptations of the vampire genre which would be inspired by the film include movies as diverse as “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and the mockumentary film “What We Do in the Shadows.”John Lynch was up all night “staking his claim” on this podcast feature. Cry Little Sister by Gerard McMannSinger-songwriter Gerard McMahon wrote this anthem under the pseudonym Gerard McMann. It would be considered the theme for the movie, and was specifically written for the film. McMann was thinking of a Gotham-like image in which you have to turn to faith in order to escape the doom in the night.Lost in the Shadows by Lou GrammGramm steps out from the shadows of his group Foreigner for this solo effort. The video for this song would feature clips from the film. Fuzzy guitar distortion and harmonica drive this deep cut, and was also written specifically for the movie. Don't Let the Sun Go Down On Me by Roger DaltreyThe Elton John hit is covered by Who front man Daltrey, and the allusion to vampires is pretty clear to see. The film ends with morning breaking and the sun coming up, and Daltrey is singing this song as the credits roll.I Still Believe by Tim CappelloThe Call's song is covered by saxophonist Cappello, who also makes a cameo where he is playing the song on the boardwalk. The lyrics are about the 40 days of fasting that Jesus undertook at the start of His ministry, and the reference to belief plays into the theme of faith versus giving into darkness that runs through this film. ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:Once Upon a Time...Storybook Love by Mark Knopfler (from the motion picture “The Princess Bride”) It would be inconceivable for us to pass up this theme from the Rob Reiner movie which was in the theaters in the fall of 1987. STAFF PICKS:One Slip by Pink Floyd After the departure of Roger Waters, Pink Floyd released the album "A Momentary Lapse of Reason" with only David Gilmour and Nick Mason listed as members. Bruce brings us this staff pick which was co-written by Gilmour and Phil Manzanera of Roxy Music. It is about unintended consequences of impulsive action, in this case an unintended pregnancy. Hourglass by SqueezeRob features the debut single from Squeeze's seventh album, “Babylon and On.” The fast-paced chorus is distinctive and catchy. Songwriters Chris Dilford and Glenn Tilbrook typically wrote the lyrics and music respectively in separate sessions (much like Bernie Taupin and Elton John), but collaborated in the same room on this song. The memorable video is full of surrealism and optical illusions.Luka by Suzanne Vega Wayne takes an uncharacteristically softer and slower pick with singer-songwriter Suzanne Vega's song about child abuse. The song was actually written prior to Vega's first album but didn't make its studio debut until her second album, “Solitude Standing."” The name comes from a boy who played in front of Vega's building and stood apart from the other children. Bad by Michael JacksonLynch brings us the title track to Michael Jackson's massively successful follow-up album to “Thriller.” Jackson wrote this song in an attempt to change his persona to a tough guy. The video was directed by Martin Scorsese, and Prince auditioned for the video. He departed as soon as he read the line, "your butt is mine," and Wesley Snipes would take the role. NOVELTY TRACK:Wipeout by the Fat Boys featuring The Beach BoysWe finish off with this unlikely pairing of beatbox rappers of the 80's and beach music founders of the 60's.
