Summary This conversation centers on the believer's journey out of the limitations of the past and into the present reality of life in the Spirit. While past experiences serve as important “benchmarks” that reveal God's faithfulness and establish spiritual foundations, they are not meant to hold us back or define our present walk. Instead, they become reference points that strengthen faith as we continue moving forward. The speakers emphasize that true life is found in the Spirit, not in the soul, flesh, or past experiences. Believers are called to live in the “now” reality of God's kingdom, where everything He has done remains alive and accessible. This journey is described as a return to our origin in God—an awakening to our eternal identity in Christ. Ultimately, the message reveals that we are being drawn upward into deeper realms of the Spirit, not by striving, but by aligning with God and allowing Him to lead. It is a continual progression toward our true home in Him, where we fully realize who we are and where we came from. Show Notes Main Theme: Living in the present reality of the Spirit while moving forward from past experiences into deeper realms of God. A Greater Heritage in GodOur inheritance in the kingdom far surpasses anything the world offers.Living in past failures or experiences limits present spiritual life. The Role of Benchmarks Past experiences serve as spiritual foundations, not destinations. They testify to God's faithfulness and guide future growth.Like climbing anchors, they prevent falling too far back. Moving Forward, Not Backward Spiritual growth creates points of no return.True progress means continuing onward, not revisiting old mindsets. Living in the Spirit vs. the Flesh Identity is rooted in the Spirit, not emotions, memories, or past pain.Focus determines whether the past has power over us. God's Faithfulness Revealed in the Past Looking back properly brings humility and gratitude. It reveals God's guidance and intentional work in our lives. A Journey of Impartation Each step forward brings new revelation and transformation.Believers are continually being drawn into deeper spiritual realms. Entering a New Realm A shift from time-based living to “now” reality in the Spirit.God's works are not past—they are alive and present. Return to Origin in God Believers come from God and are returning to Him.Identity is discovered through revelation of Jesus Christ. Eternal Identity in Christ We are not merely created beings but originate from God in Christ. Our journey is a return to our eternal home. Being Led by the Spirit Spiritual growth is not self-driven but Spirit-led.Alignment with God opens the next level of experience. Quotes “Do you want to live in what was, or in the light God has brought you into?”“Benchmarks are not places to stay—they are foundations to stand on.”“If you fall, you only fall back to the last place you knew God was real.”“We are not living in the realm of the earth—we are living in the realm of the Spirit.”“Everything God has ever done is still alive right now.”“We're not timeline people waiting for something—this is now.”“We came out of God, and we are returning to Him.”“Our identity is revealed as we see Christ.”“We are not doing this—He is calling us up, and we are aligning with Him.” Scriptural References Psalm 126 (1)“We were like those who dream.”Hebrews 7 (3)Melchizedek: “without father, without mother… having neither beginning of days nor end of life”2 Corinthians 5 (17)“Old things have passed away… all things have become new”John 16 (28)“I came forth from the Father… and go to the Father”Ephesians 1 (3)“Blessed us with every spiritual blessing in heavenly places”Ephesians 2 (6)“Seated us together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus”Romans 8 (14)“As many as are led by the Spirit… these are sons of God”Jeremiah 1 (5)implied concept) – Known before formationEcclesiastes 3 (11)Eternity placed in the heart Takeaway The past is not your dwelling place—it is your witness. God uses it to establish truth in you, but your life is meant to be lived in the present reality of the Spirit. As you move forward, aligning with Him, He leads you into deeper realms of understanding, identity, and union with Himself. You are not becoming something new—you are awakening to where you came from and returning to who you've always been in Him.
Sermon Title: Making the Love of Christ Your Great Quest Speaker: Rev. Dr. Ebenezer Okronipa Scripture Focus: 1 Corinthians 13 & 14, 2 Thessalonians 3:5, Ephesians 5:1-2 I. The Mandate: Love as the Primary Pursuit In the Christian walk, there is a distinct hierarchy of spiritual priorities. While the church often emphasizes power and gifts, Scripture redirects our focus toward love as the "more excellent way." The Command to Pursue: 1 Corinthians 14:1 instructs us to "Pursue love." The Greek word used here is dioko, which means to eagerly chase or hunt, much like a predator pursues its prey. The Difference Between Desire and Quest: You are told to desire spiritual gifts but to make love your quest. You can desire something without chasing it, but a quest requires an intentional, life-altering pursuit. The Goal: Love must be your "bullseye"—the very center of your spiritual aim. II. The Futility of Gifts Without Love 1 Corinthians 13 highlights that the highest levels of spiritual operation are rendered useless if they are not fueled by love. 1. Spiritual Utterances If you speak in the tongues of men or even angels but lack love, you are merely a "sounding brass" or a "clanging cymbal." Without love, powerful prayer and tongues become an "empty sound" that is frustrating and irritating rather than transformative. 2. Revelation and Knowledge One can understand all mysteries and possess all knowledge, yet if love is absent, the person is "nothing." 3. Miracle-Working Faith Even faith that is powerful enough to remove mountains is profitless without the component of love. 4. Extreme Sacrifice Giving all your goods to the poor or even giving your body to be burned (martyrdom) profits you nothing if the motivation is not love. Correction on Human Love: Often, we mistake "kindness" or "human affinity" for God's love. True Agape goes beyond loving those in our circle; it is a supernatural disposition. III. The Superiority of Love The Bible establishes that love is the greatest of the abiding virtues. The Abiding Three: Faith, hope, and love remain, but love is the greatest. The More Excellent Way: 1 Corinthians 12:31 transitions into the love chapter by promising to show us a way that is superior to all spiritual offices and gifts. IV. Defining the Quest: Walking in the Love of God To pursue love is to pursue the very nature of God. Directed Hearts: 2 Thessalonians 3:5 is a prayer that the Lord "direct your hearts into the love of God." This implies that our hearts need divine navigation to stay aligned with His love. Imitating the Father: Ephesians 5:1-2 calls us to be "imitators of God" as dear children. The Standard of Christ: We are commanded to "walk in love, as Christ also has loved us." This is a sacrificial love—one that gives itself up as an offering. V. Practical Application: An Excellent Church An "excellent" church is not defined by its social gatherings or the fame of its leaders, but by its operation in love and the Spirit. Love Removes Barriers: When a church walks in the love of God, tribalism, social status, and personal offenses disappear. Gifts Flourishing in Love: Spiritual gifts (prophecy, healing, miracles) should be evident in the church, but they must be exercised through the "more excellent way" of love to be effective. A Burden for the People: The greatest drain on a leader is not the exercise of power, but the emotional labor of counseling those who are not walking in love and are thus easily frustrated or offended. Conclusion and Call to Action Make the love of God your Great Quest. Do not be satisfied with merely being "spiritual" or "gifted." Ask the Holy Spirit to direct your heart into a love that is sacrificial, consistent, and modeled after Jesus Christ. Prayer Point: "Lord, direct my heart into Your love. Let my life be an imitation of Christ's love in every word and action."

God's Rescue Plan 1. Chosen by the Father (Ephesians 1:3–4) 2. Justified by the Son (Romans 5:9) 3. Sanctified by the Spirit (2 Thessalonians 2:13)
Pastor Chris Waldvogel ~ 2nd Sunday after Christmas Old Testament: 1 Kings 3:4-15 Epistle: Ephesians 1:3-14 Gospel: Luke 2:40-52 The post January 4, 2026 ~ “God is Your Father” ~ Ephesians 1:3-14 appeared first on Beautiful Savior Fargo.
In this episode, Ash and Tiani Welch-Phillips dive into Ephesians 2:18, which says, “For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.” Together, they unpack how this short but powerful verse captures the beauty of the Trinity—Jesus making the way, the Holy Spirit guiding and convicting us, and God the Father welcoming us into deep relationship. Tiani shares her journey of learning to understand God as a loving Father after growing up without one, and how her perspective of Jesus and the Holy Spirit has deepened over time. Ash reflects on how the fruits of the Spirit—patience, kindness, gentleness, self-control—aren’t just “nice traits,” but ways the Spirit draws us closer to God. This conversation is a refreshing reminder that God’s presence and love are not reserved for the “religious” or the perfect—they are for every single person, made possible through Jesus.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Speaker: Pastor Josh Sherrell Main Idea: We are beloved children, to the praise of the Father's glory and grace. We see the Father's love for us as his children in this passage in three distinct ways: 1.We have been Blessed Beyond Measure (3) 2.We were Chosen Before Time (4) 3.We were Predestined for Adoption (5) Application— that we might live to the praise of his glory and grace (6).
“Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.” (Ephesians 3:20 NLT) When my oldest son was a little boy, I would take him to Toys R Us. We would look around. I would tell him to pick out something for himself. He would look at the Star Wars figures. I would look at the X-Wing Fighter with the remote control, thinking that I would like to get it for him. The truth is that I wanted to play with it, too. He would pick out his little figure. Then I would say, “I was thinking of getting you something better than that.” He always went along with my idea. After a while, he started to learn something about Dad, which was that Dad liked to get presents for his kids. He came to realize that it was better to say, “I don’t know what to get, Dad. You choose it for me.” He came to realize that my choices were often better than what he chose for himself. Paul sends a similar message about our heavenly Father in Ephesians 3:20. The difference is that God’s generosity is perfect because God is perfect. He isn’t limited by resources. He isn’t swayed by moods, feelings, or impulses. He doesn’t have to guess at what might be meaningful or right for us. He designed us. He knows our code. He knows us better than we know ourselves. Sometimes that can be hard for us to accept. We don’t always recognize God’s perfect generosity because we allow misconceptions to warp our view of who He is and what He does. We fall for the lie that He’s a cosmic killjoy, always on the lookout for things that bring us joy so that He can put an end to them. And we compound the problem by being dazzled by temporary thrills—opportunities that have surface appeal but no real depth. Things that have no lasting value, that bring no sense of meaning, purpose, or fulfillment. Or, like my son, we’re content to settle for something small, something that pales in comparison to what we might have. Our enemy knows our tendencies and weaknesses and does everything in his power to exploit them. Look at his temptation of Jesus in the wilderness. He appealed to Jesus’ immediate physical needs. He offered fame and power. He wanted Jesus to settle for something less than the grand, glorious plan of God to redeem the world. And he does the same to us. He emphasizes flash over substance. He urges us to choose immediate gratification over long-term fulfillment. One of the many reasons God’s Word encourages us to become mature in our faith is so that we will recognize His generosity and respond with a spirit of gratitude. A mature faith understands that even though we have done nothing to earn God’s favor, He wants only what is ultimately best for us. This week's message explores the incredible power and authority Jesus gave us as believers. After His resurrection and ascension to the right hand of the Father (Ephesians 1:20-21), He equipped us to be His hands and feet on earth. As His representatives, we are empowered to perform signs and wonders in His name—healing the sick, casting out demons, speaking in tongues, and more (Mark 16:17-18). This sermon dives deep into how we can walk boldly in the authority of Jesus' name, trusting in the power He's given us. When we truly understand this, we can confidently act as His ambassadors, bringing heaven to earth. Join us as we explore how to live out our faith and operate in the fullness of His authority today! Scripture References: Ephesians 1:20-21, Mark 16:17-18, John 14:12-14.
September 14, 2024 Today's Reading: John 12:20-33Daily Lectionary: 2 Chronicles 33:1-25; Jonah 1:1-4:11; Colossians 1:24-2:7“And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.” (John 12:32)In the Name + of Jesus. Amen. The cross looks like defeat, but faith sees the victory of Jesus over sin and death. The cross looks like helplessness, but faith sees the power of God for salvation. The cross looks like humiliation, but faith sees the exaltation of Jesus and His coronation as King. “I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to Myself.” The death of Jesus on the cross is a result of sin. And since everyone who has ever lived on the earth (except Him) is a sinner, the cross is where He draws all sinners to Himself. He “came and preached peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near. For through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father” (Ephesians 2:17-18). The Greeks said to Philip, “Sir, we wish to see Jesus” (John 12:20). In response, Jesus spoke of His coming death as His glorification and said, “If anyone serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there will my servant be also” (12:26). The servants of Jesus are with Him in His death: “Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life” (Romans 6:3-4). Jesus gathered you to Himself on the cross by your baptism so that you would be always with Him, not only in death but even more– in His resurrection. “For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his” (Romans 6:5). This is the mystery and contradiction of the holy cross: here, Jesus wins victory in defeat, power in weakness, and exaltation in humiliation. “Sing, my tongue, the glorious battle; sing the ending of the fray. Now above the cross, the trophy, sound the loud triumphant lay; tell how Christ, the world's redeemer, as a victim won the day. … Faithful cross, true sign of triumph, be for all the noblest tree; none in foliage, none in blossom, none in fruit thine equal be; symbol of the world's redemption, for the weight that hung on thee” (LSB 454:1, 4)! In the Name + of Jesus. Amen.Merciful God, Your Son, Jesus Christ, was lifted high upon the cross that He might bear the sins of the world and draw all people to Himself. Grant that we who glory in His death for our redemption may faithfully heed His call to bear the cross and follow Him, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Wisdom is necessary to win the battles waged in the ongoing spiritual war. The battles are between the “old man” or “the flesh” and the “new man,” which is forming in the covenanted ones.In this teaching, Elder William Jackson points out that too many covenanted ones have fallen due to laziness and being in a state of slumber. For through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father (Ephesians 2:18). Thank you, Father!
How to be an intentional father; recognizing that being an intentional father is a sacred calling
Ephesians 3:14-24 with Pastor Greg Denham
Five Needs of Fathers MESSAGE SUMMARY: Introduction -- Father's, we need to understand God's expectations of Fathers. In Ephesians 6:4, Paul defines God's expectations of fathers: “Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.". Also, Proverbs 22:6 presents what expectations we might have if fathers adhere to God's expectations: “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.". Dads are to bring up their children in "the way they should go" (their calling). Discipline, wisely administered by fathers, is an important attribute and need for fathers, as the author of Hebrews tells us in Hebrews 12:9-11: “. . . we have had earthly fathers who disciplined us and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits and live? For they disciplined us for a short time as it seemed best to them, but he disciplines us for our good, that we may share his holiness. For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.”. Today's Message -- The Five Needs of Fathers: 1) Companionship – As God said in Genesis 2:18, the majority of men were made not to be alone; 2) Respect – honor, appreciation, respect, as Paul tells us in Ephesians 5:33: “However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband."; 3) Know How to Face Temptation -- when we are tempted (temptation is not a sin), God will provide us a way out of succumbing to the temptation, 1 Corinthians 10:13; 4) Not to Be Foolish -- Proverbs 13:20; and 5) and Remember that God, the Father, Expects You to Be a Father -- Ephesians 6:4 and Proverbs 22:6, tells us that fathers are to train their children so that their children are raised: “in the way he should go' and in a way that meets God's expectations of both the father and the child. Men are motivated when they know they will be held accountable, and God is holding us accountable for how we fathers raise our children. There is a void of faithful men and fathers today; therefore, fathers', should ask God to help you to be faithful as a father. Fathers should hope that, when we are judged by God, that He tells us: “Well done good and faithful servant!”. “God, how many more {hours, days, and years} do I have, as a father, to meet your expectations and to receive the joys of being a father”. TODAY'S PRAYER: Keeping the Sabbath, Lord, will require a lot of changes in the way I am living life. Teach me, Lord, how to take the next step with this in a way that fits my unique personality and situation. Help me to trust you with all that will remain unfinished and to enjoy my humble place in your very large world. In Jesus' name, amen. Scazzero, Peter. Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Day by Day (p. 129). Zondervan. Kindle Edition. TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: Today, I affirm that because of what God has done for me in His Son, Jesus, I AM FORGIVEN. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9 SCRIPTURE REFERENCE (ESV): Ephesians 6:4; Proverbs 22:6; Genesis 2:18; Proverbs 19:22; Ephesians 5:33; 1 Corinthians 10:13; Proverbs 13:20; Hebrews 12:9-11; (Click the Bible References, in blue, below to read the full Bible text for these Scripture References.). This is what we are as men; we are originators of our children. An originator is the beginning of or the starter of. God is our Father Ephesians 4:4-6 Psalm 68:5 Psalm 27:10 We as Fathers…With His Attributes Over the years, we have seen the attack on the institution of fatherhood and the strategy to make fathers unloving and ineffective is a primary goal of Satan himself. Why? Because if fathers are distant, distracted, disconnected, or even abusive, children will believe all fathers are this way, even a heavenly Father who claims to love them unconditionally. But this is clearly not God's plan. God's desire is for all fathers to reflect aspects of His character, an earthly mirror of a heavenly reality. Genesis 2:26 We know things Matthew 6:8 We have an adoptive heart Psalm 27:10 Matthew 27:9-11 When you contemplate the symbolism in Jesus' examples in Matthew 7:9–11, a deeper meaning, especially for fathers, is evident. For example, consider the comparison of bread to a stone. Especially to a small child, a piece of bread and a small stone may look the same and feel the same. But they are not the same. Bread was, and remains today, a key source of physical life and sustenance, and it represents spiritual life as Christ's body, which was broken for the salvation of the world. A stone, especially in the time of Christ, could be a tool of destruction and death. Remember, stones were used to martyr Stephen. Now consider the symbolism in the comparison of a fish to a serpent. The fish is a key symbol of the Christian faith. Of note, Jesus' first disciples were fishermen whom He transformed into “fishers of men.” These men fervently shared the good news that salvation is available for all men. In contrast, the serpent is the symbol of the Evil One who seeks to thwart the gospel and lead humankind down a path of destruction and death.
Love is the measure of who we are (1Corinthians 13:2,3,8,13, Matthew 20:26). Although feelings, decisions, thoughtfulness are manifestations of love, they are not the ESSENCE of LOVE, which is SPIRITUAL, coming from the Presence of God in us, for God is love, and all love is of God (1John 4:7,8,16), and the fruit of the Spirit is love (Galatians 5:22). God is the Source of love and He pours His love it into our hearts through the Holy Spirit (Romans 5:5). This then empowers us to think loving thoughts and making the decision to act in love. We cannot generate love from our own soul, for it comes from the Spirit of God (Matthew 5:3). In our soul, we must believe in and receive the love that He gives us, and surrender to His Love as He pours into our hearts, and yield to it in our lives (obedience). This is our soul aligning to the Love of God that comes from the Spirit. How much you know God (through your fellowship with Him) determines how much you are connected to the Source of Love, which determines how much love you can express in your life. We GROW in LOVE by (1) RECEIVING His LOVE into our heart by faith, and then (2) RELEASING His love through our words and actions. First, we must PRAY and ask God to FILL our HEART with His LOVE. The classic PRAYER to be FILLED with the LOVE of God is Ephesians 3:14-19, which Derek expounds. God wants us to comprehend, receive and experience: "(1) the WIDTH (John 3:16) and (2) LENGTH (Jeremiah 31:3) and (3) DEPTH and (4) HEIGHT of the LOVE of CHRIST, which passes knowledge (it does not come from your mind, but from the Spirit)." In this way, we "may be filled with all the fullness of God (who is love).” God is ready to fill us with Himself abundantly above all that we ask or think, through the power of the Holy Spirit who is working within us, but He is limited by our (1) THINKING and (2) ASKING, so we need to (1) meditate on His Word and pray for more revelation of the 4 dimensions of His love, and (2) come to Him in confident faith and lay hold of His love, with which He wants to fill our hearts (Ephesians 3:20). God's ultimate purpose is that He would be glorified through His Church; that is, through our union with CHRIST, the GLORY of GOD (the manifestation of His LOVE) would shine through us by the power of the indwelling HOLY SPIRIT, to the glory of GOD, the FATHER (Ephesians 3:21).

10/02/2022 Morning Service -“Paul’s Prayer, Part 1: I Bow My Knees To The Father” by Jon Kile. Ephesians 3:14-17 The post Paul's Prayer, Part 1: I Bow My Knees To The Father (Ephesians 3:14-17) appeared first on Faith Community Church, Vacaville, CA.
Once Peter arrives at Cornelius' house in Caesarea God does something remarkable—He pours out His Spirit on all the Gentiles even before Peter finishes preaching! In Acts 10-11, Simon Bar Jonah, becomes a greater ‘Jonah' than the Old Testament prophet. He joyously preaches to the Gentiles and reports their conversion! Christ Jesus “has made Jews and Gentiles one… broken down the middle wall of separation… and granted us both access by one Spirit to the Father” (Ephesians 2). Join us as we worship and continue our journey through Acts!

Sunday Morning Expositional Message
Sunday Morning Expositional Message
Today, Wednesday November 24 “Praying in the Holy Spirit” Jude 1:20-21 “But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.” Jude is exhorting his readers to stand and not to be stumbling over the lies and deceitfulness of the apostates, the false teachers. He gives several things to think about and to do if we are to continue to be faithful to our “faith”. We are to remember the Word that was given to us from the Lord! We are also to be growing and building up our lives on that Word, the Holy Spirit. It is also very important that we pray! The power for building the Christian life comes from prayer: "praying in the Holy Spirit" (Jude 20). The Word of God and prayer go together in spiritual growth. If all we do is read and study the Bible, we will have a great deal of light, but not much power. However, if we concentrate on prayer and ignore the Bible, we may be guilty of zeal without knowledge. We read the Word to grow in faith (Romans 10:17), then we use that faith to ask God for what we need and what His Word tells us we may have. The Word of God and prayer certainly go together (Acts 6:4). Evangelist Billy Sunday used to give his converts three rules for success in the Christian life. Each day they were to read the Bible and let God talk to them. They were to pray; in other words, they were to talk to God. And they were to witness and talk to others about God. It would be difficult to improve on those rules. What does it mean to "pray in the Holy Spirit"? First, did you notice the contrast with the false teachers in Jude 1:19? The Holy Spirit was not evident in their lives or prayers. "…having not the Spirit". It means to pray according to the leading of the Spirit. It has well been said, "Prayer is not getting man's will done in heaven—it is getting God's will done on earth." This agrees with 1 John 5:14-15: “Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.” As Christians, we may pray in solitude (Matthew 6:6), but we never pray alone; the Spirit of God joins with us as we pray because He knows the mind of God and can direct us. “Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.” (Romans 8:26-27) The Holy Spirit can give us wisdom and knowledge from the Word: “Therefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers: that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him” (Ephesians 1:15-17). The Holy Spirit can also help us approach the Father through the access we have in Jesus Christ: “For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father” (Ephesians 2:18). We worship God "in the Spirit" (Philippians 3:3), and the Spirit initiates true prayer and also motivates us to pray, for He is "the Spirit of grace and of supplications" (Zechariah 12:10). When the believer is yielded to the Spirit, then the Spirit will assist him in his prayer life, and God will answer prayer. Today, is your time in prayer what it should be? God Bless!
