I met this week's guest recently and we been yapping about dnb non stop....talking about all kinds of stuff really ..he's hilarious and a genuine force of positivity in our community. Representing Texas and North America at large, please welcome J. Augustus. He's a Producer, MC, DJ, and a highly sought-after Host of events. He has worked in various facets of the music industry, including lo-fi, hip-hop, Boom Bap, Drum and Bass, and other underground subgenres. He has been a staple in the Texas live music scene since the late 90s, cementing his talent and ability to connect with his audiences, bringing his own originality to the table. With that, he founded Quaziscience Recordings to showcase his production and offer a platform to other artists across the globe. His exceptional skills have earned him a place on lineups and shared stages with numerous acts like J Boogie, KADILAK, Jel, Kid Koala, GOLDIE, BLACKMILK, SPIRIT, Red Man, KLUTE, Too Short, LIONDUB, Esta, Nicky Blackmarket, Sango, EMPRESS, Mellow Hype, AK1200, Mr. Lif, MC ASTRO,  FALCONS,  GENERAL MONKZ, Rev Kathy Russell, Merrick Brown, Freestyle Fellowship, and DJ Craze.  The year 2024 has seen J. @Philth steps up for SUNANDBASS Podcast #82, and this one’s personal. A long time fan and attendee of the festival, it always means a lot to him to play there, a place he often calls his ‘happy place’. In this mix he’s really showcased what SUNANDBASS, San Teodoro, and Sardinia means to him, something that is also so important to us. In customary Philth style, he’s put together an epic mix chock full of both fresh and classics, so get stuck in – but before you do, here’s a few words from the man himself to explain the context of it all: When I was asked to record the latest Sun and Bass podcast I didn’t want to just gather up some promos and smash out a mix, I wanted to think about the festival and what it means to me and choose tracks that reflect what it feels like to spend a week in San Teodoro digging out some of my all time favourite tunes as well as exciting new music. As I collected up my music I thought about the main locations at Sun and Bass and how they all have their own particular vibe, then I selected a folder of music for the Beach, the Ambra Night ‘Garden’ and ‘Gazebo’ stages, just like I would do for the festival. The mix progresses on this journey, starting with mellow warm Beach vibes; picking up the energy and the euphoric feeling dancing under the stars in the Garden; and finishing up with the dark rinseout tunes to get sweaty to in the Gazebo. The final track is the sunrise at La Cinta beach before battling up the hill to get home... Sun and Bass is a place where the crowd are always receptive to deeper flavours of DnB so that definitely had an influence on my selection, along with a healthy sprinkle of classics, music that reminds me of good times at the festival both on the decks and dancefloor. There are plenty of my own productions but I didn’t want it to just be a dubplate mix - there is too much good music going on across the scene to only play my tracks. The mix features forthcoming Philth and Phil:osophy tracks coming on Dispatch, Flexout, Integral and Peer Pressure in 2019 so listen carefully no tracklist no ID’s!

VORSO emerged with inimitably dynamic force in 2017, with his fresh approach to production and distinct, intricately heavy sound making immediate ripples and garnering widespread attention from open-minded listeners. Initial releases on the exploratory US bass imprint UPSCALE left a searing impression, with his dynamic touch and exceptional funk attitude coming through in a series of collaborations with artists such as CLOCKVICE, CHEE & FREQUENT. Later, his track NEEDLE on FLEXOUT caught the ear of APHEX TWIN, who was heard playing it during a tour that touched down at Spain’s legendary Primavera festival, as well as the prominent INSPECTED label which picked up and released the VIP in 2017, a year that finished with his self-released SPECTRE EP dominating the bass music scene. With influences spanning a list of artists that includes Noisia, Ivy Lab, Emperor, Alix Perez, Joe Ford and KOAN Sound, and with many of these artists supporting his output on tour, Vorso’s spirit is firmly rooted in a diverse range of bass music, with ultra-refined production values. A fresh wave of material is under construction, and with his recruitment into the ranks of the MethLab collective and agency – expect to see Vorso at live shows across Europe very soon. We are very proud to host D-Vox.D-Vox (aka Daniela Rhodes) is a multi genre dj, vocalist and mix show host covering house, dnb, techno and hard trance. A dj for fourteen years and live vocalist for ten, she has crafted her unique ability of accompanying instrumental tracks across these genres with live, ambient vocals. As well as touching on her own personal experiences within her lyrics, she also likes to project words of inspiration and encouragement in life to her audience. Since her amazing opportunity to play at Ministry of Sound last year, D-Vox has been inundated with offers for club bookings, local festival slots, guest sets and vocal collaborations with producers and is enjoying every minute of working hard and getting involved with as many projects as she can handle.As vocalist Daniela Rhodes, she is signed to Dark Room Recs & Unified Cortex with collabs in the pipeline.
