For Jewish girls, the bat mitzvah is a pivotal moment of becoming a young adult and joining the adult community. For Rebecca Minkoff, who had been designing and sewing clothes since she was eight years old, the celebration was also a chance to showcase her fashion skills—and her “newly budding rack.” Pulling inspiration from the 1700s (think Bridgerton), Rebecca designed a square-necked, Empire-waist number that checked her boxes (and her parents made sure it stayed PG-13). For Rebecca, this was a foundational step in the lifelong process of becoming a fashion mogul. Now, in 2021, Rebecca Minkoff has flagship stores in LA, Hong Kong and New York City, among others; she's also distributed by more than 900 companies worldwide. While Rebecca has enjoyed early boosts to her brand—Jenna Elfman wore her “I Love New York” shirt on The Jay Leno Show in 2001—Rebecca has also worked hard to cultivate her business's profile. For example, when she launched the Morning After Bag (also known as the M.A.B.) in 2005, she leveraged her industry connections, working relationships with Hollywood agents and stylists to ensure that the highly photographed celebrities of the early aughts all had a Rebecca Minkoff bag on their arm. But getting there wasn't easy: she's navigated debts, doubts, and setbacks along the way. For example, Rebecca tells us she was once fired from a job after the CEO pulled her aside and told her that  if she didn't start channelling the passion she was putting into her own side hustle into the CEO's fashion business, she'd be let go. Rebecca countered with, “I don't honestly think I can do that.” At the time, Rebecca had small collections in only a handful of New York City stores, but her dedication to her own vision meant letting go of her main gig. “There was no safety net,” she recalls. Rebecca has since been in the CEO's position, and she's made the same tough call. “When you're half-assing two things, you'll never be able to fully focus on either.”When the M.A.B. took off, Rebecca sensed her company's reputation was starting to hinge on a single product. So she quickly escalated production on a range of offerings, from jewelry to clothing. “We knew we wanted to be a lifestyle brand, and the only way to do that was to go full-force and launch these other categories.” Her company president at the time was from the apparel world, and Rebecca herself had experience with women's clothing design. She also brought on a shoe expert who could take them from design to manufacture. “We kept finding best-of-breed partners.” Unwilling to do a licensing agreement, she entered into manufacturing agreements—very normal in fashion—and she encourages people to explore different types of partnerships for themselves in their own businesses. One of her most important partnerships is with her brother, who joined the company full-time in 2011. He had loaned her seed money for M.A.B. launch years earlier, and their partnership over the years has had ups and downs. Rebecca tells us that when things get really intense, she and Uri “hired a business mediator to help us when we get those critical impasses:” someone to “unsnarl the tangles” when the business and personal relationships become complicated. Since 2018, Rebecca has also been channelling her creative leadership energy into the Female Founder Collective, a network for female business owners that offers education and resources. She's also recently published a book, Fearless, that walks readers through her 21 steps for bravery in the face of business uncertainty. “My goal with the book is to throw out the rules: know you're going to be scared, but do those things anyway.” She knows, from long personal experience, that taking risks is not a fearless endeavor, but moving through fear is a key step for success.ResourcesTo learn more about our guest, go to https://www.rebeccaminkoff.com/To learn more about FreshBooks and take advantage of an offer exclusive to our podcast listeners, go to freshbooks.com/podcast Follow us on social @freshbooks, and remember to subscribe to get the latest episodes as soon as they become available!

It’s week 2 of Your Personal Best with Dermot and Dave and Sport Ireland and our leaders are well and truly into their plans! As we all know, you are what you eat, and while Your Personal Best trainer Paul Opperman has the exercise boxed off, we wanted to take some time to look at nutrition and what little changes can be made to make sure that our leaders are feeling their best. Alan from, Rebecca from Limerick (but living in Kerry) and John in Cork have all been following their exercise plan as set by Your Personal Best fitness expert Paul Opperman and have had a sit-down chat with Sharon Madigan. Sharon is Head of Nutrition for Sport Ireland Institute and she had some tips for our leaders on how they can fuel themselves properly. And yes, that includes veg. [audio mp3="https://media.radiocms.net/uploads/2020/11/10142944/YPB_WEEK02.mp3"][/audio] ALAN BRADY FROM CAVAN IS A SELF-CONFESSED VEG HATER Speaking to Dermot and Dave, Alan revealed that he’s so against veg that he’s been having veg in smoothies just to try and get a bit of green. Sharon Madigan gave Alan some top tips on how to get more veg in his diet, including making himself a yummy winter soup! And for Alan, his main evening meals have changed as well. This week, he’s had more veg on his plate than he’s had in years. Plus, he’s been snacking on fruit Alan also explained that he’s been a fan of eating late at night, meaning that he wasn’t hungry in the morning which lead to some bad choices throughout the evening. To curb this, Sharon has some tips on having a balanced breakfast, a decent lunch and then a hearty dinner. This is something our Rebecca has been struggling with. Rebecca is a busy mum of young kids and a freelancer meaning she’s out on the road a lot. Her downfall was snacking so much during the day, focusing on getting the dinner ready for the kids which left her too tired for a decent dinner. Sharon has recommended some decent a quick breakfasts that Rebecca can have during the week which will keep her going and stop the snacking. One thing that Sharon has also told Rebecca to do is to eat her dinner with the kids in the evening. For Rebecca, there’s been very little fruit or veg in her diet, but now she’s taking the time to make a nutritious meal every evening. Sharon’s top tips for making a change to your lifestyle are simple to follow: Don’t try and make a massive change all at once-if you love a spoonful of sugar with your tea, enjoy it but cut down on the amount of teaspoons you’re having. Don’t cut out your takeaway but make sure it’s a treat at the weekend. Don’t cut out the food you love, just think about it differently. Avoid binging in the evenings-try to eat sustainable meals throughout the day so you’re not getting hungry (or hangry) and making bad choices. Keep a food diary of what you’re eating during the week and don’t ignore it during the weekend and go totally berserk from lunchtime on Friday.

On today's podcast, we help Rebecca launch her membership site! Rebecca has already written a book she sells on kindle, and is selling one off calendars and resources to parents on 3rd party sites. In today's podcast you will learn how to use print subscriptions as the core content of a membership community, the logistics necessary to turn your old content into a subscription product, and how to get excited about your online business again!   Learn how to create a subscription newsletter to grow your membership!   What You'll Learn: How to build a community around a subscription. (15:15) It's not as hard as you think. (19:00) How do you lead people into your subscription? (25:40) Story Notes Rebecca Haas is a speech pathologist and fitness coach and has been doing both nearly 20 years now. When she was pregnant with her twins (that are now 8-years-old) she was on bedrest which was hard for her. So, in her extra time she wrote her book “Talking With Toddlers: 52 Tips To Boost Speech and Language Skills” to keep herself busy. She continued to write after they were born and it reached the Best Seller category on Kindle when she published it! She started blogging and opened her own medical practice after working in a school system for 4 years (which she decided just wasn't her thing). It was her blog though that would get her foot in the door of the online business space and reaching more people! Rebecca had continued her journey online for several years. At one point she even made little calendars of activities and sold them on Teachers Pay Teachers. When the pandemic started they sold like hot cakes! The big reason she wants to expand her online business by incorporating the membership model is to use the material in her book and the calendars to reach more people than what clients she has in-person at her practice. She has seen how well her calendars have done online with no advertising. Her biggest question now? How to turn her calendars into a membership site!   How to build a community around a subscription. Rebecca's membership is a little different average. For this we're going to talk about how to build a community around a subscription. A subscription and a membership are not the same thing. A subscription is based around consuming something. Ex. a subscription meal box. You get and you're good. What makes something a membership is when you build a community and wrap that community around it. In the Flip Your Community - yes there's courses to consume but we've built a following around this. The same thing can be done in a subscription level too. This is exactly what we do with Membership Masters.   It's not as hard as you think. We don't think Rebecca should mail her calendar with: 4 or 5 sheets of paper, a letter from Rebecca, they open it up and it has two sides of the calendar and then the back has information for finding the resources online. You don't mail people all the resources because you want them to log into the community and interact. Rebecca's subscription would be really powerful because this parents would look forward to the subscription hitting their mailbox.  Rebecca could also experiment on her blog and write them a couple times a month. She can make it her mission to communicate with them. By talking about everything big to small or even unrelated to the membership she can truly build a community. They only thing missing is the community interacting with each other but that can easily be solved by creating Facebook group for her members.   How do you lead people into your subscription? For Rebecca her best lead magnet is her book - one of the best book funnels is “free + shipping.” Rebecca could send them a digital copy because she wants them to see how good her book is. Then, people start realizing how awesome it would be to have access to her each month and join her membership!   What are your next steps?

In this episode, I share my biggest lessons from co-founder of Modern Loss, Rebecca Soffer. My biggest takeaways: Life sometimes throws curveballs. If you don't learn from it immediately, you must learn from it eventually. Build your rich life. For Rebecca that meant living a life full of adventure, trying new things, and living a life of passion.Change can be scary, but be open to change. Eventually it can lead you to work that is even more fulfilling; way beyond where you were initially. You have limited time on earth... Nothing is guaranteed - so don't waste your time.Post traumatic growth and resilience are real. Rebecca's parents are not here, but she is still going to make the best life possible. We all have power; we just need to harness it. Sometimes being thrown into tough circumstances leads you to leaning into your inner power and developing resilience. You really need to believe in your mission, your story, what you are doing, and your goal. That is the only way you will deal with navigating roadblocks, naysayers, and when things get tough. These were my biggest takeaways. I'd love to hear from you with your biggest takeaways. It was also around this time that her father (celebrated stage director Peter Hall) gave her some advice: the key to being an actor is making sure that you remember to live! She talks about her time at University and finding success on stage before appearing on screen again. After The Prestige, Rebecca continued on to a truly incredible career that’s lead to multiple awards and critical recognition. Her work includes The Red Riding Triology, The Town, Parade’s End, Iron Man 3, Transcendence The Awakening, Frost/Nixon, The Gift, Christine, and Tales from the Loop. Later this year you can watch her in Godzilla vs. Kong. She’s a master craftswoman. From sketching actors in the back of her father’s stage rehearsals to directing her own projects, you’ll hear the stories of how Rebecca pushes beyond expectations to create the art and life that she wants to express. Managing Your Energy and Mental Health During COVID-19 with Rebecca Lepoff Rebecca first started noticing the energy of those around her while doing community mental health work.  One particular client was so negative that she felt his negativity and the negativity stayed with her even after meeting with that client. According to Elaine Aron, author of The Highly Sensitive Person, some Common characteristics of people who are sensitive to energy around them (such as empaths) include: People around you tell you that you are “too sensitive” You have a rich inner life Bright lights or strong smells affect you more easily that others You tend to avoid violent TV shows and movies The benefits of being a highly sensitive person: You can be aware of your surroundings and others which lets you have more empathy and compassion You have the capacity for high emotional intelligence, which can help you be a more effective leader in the workplace For Rebecca, one of the rewards for working in the mental health field is seeing people’s lives change for the better. Ways to stay grounded, especially during COVID-19 pandemic: Change your focus or thoughts about things that drain your energy to a focus or thought on something that uplifts you.  Observe your self-talk and deliberately change your self-talk so you talk more positively to yourself.  See yourself and/or your life in a more positive light.  This can have a very positive impact on that person’s mood and happiness level. To get the most out of working with a mental health professional, a client has to WANT to change his or her life and the client has to be comfortable with the mental health professional. To maintain your mental health during something like the COVID-19 pandemic: Limit your exposure to news media to once a day Deliberately spend time in activities (and with people) that you enjoy Tools to keep you grounded, especially if you are highly sensitive to the energy of others: Check in with yourself and determine what is your own energy and what is the energy of another person.  This takes practice but can be very helpful in the long run. Meditate, or participate in a guided meditation, daily. Focus on what you can control (not what you cannot control) Depression is having a hard time feeling motivated; feeling sad; sometimes feeling angry at ourselves or the world; feeling blah or having no emotions A lot of our anxiety comes from worrying about “What if . . .” and thinking of the worst-case scenario. Tips for easing anxiety and depression: Sometimes forcing yourself to do what you know will be good for you rather than waiting to feel motivated to do it.  For example, if you have been working from home for a few days, you might have to “push” yourself to go outside for a walk, after which you will feel better.  The same is often true when it comes to exercise! Do more positive self-talk rather than fighting against your anxiety.  Dr. David Carbonell wrote a book called The Worry Trick in which he talks about not fighting anxiety.  When we say to ourselves “Don’t be anxious,” all our minds hear is “Be anxious.”  Distract your mind by deliberately shifting your focus. Do a “body scan” meditation where you focus on your feet and gradually move up and focus on other parts of your body.  This will help you “get out of your mind” and more into your body. Work with a competent mental health professional to help you with your anxiety and/or depression Look into Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) with a licensed professional There is less and less of a stigma about ensuring your mental health today than there was 20 years ago.  So many people feel alone in their anxiety and depression and sometimes that stigma of seeing a mental health professional keeps people from living happier lives. Those seeking help from a mental health professional can visit psychologytoday.com for a list of therapists and their specialties across the United States. If you don't know what that is, you're not alone so here is what it is:ASMR, which stands for autonomous sensory meridian response, is still a relatively new creation. It describes a feeling of euphoric tingling and relaxation that can come over someone when he or she watches certain videos or hears certain sounds. (Sleep.org)Now one thing you should also know is that there are TONS of different types of ASMR videos ranging from video to audio stimulation that has helped millions upon millions of people relax and be able to sleep. For instance, one of Jay Allen's favorites to view in terms of ASMR is listening and watching Barber Shop videos where you can watch the focus of someone giving a haircut while hearing the small sounds of electric razors, scissors cutting, and even squirt bottles releasing water for wet the hair. For Rebecca, she loves listening to Bible ASMR!

In episode 118, Kestrel welcomes Rebecca Burgess, the founder of Fibershed, to the show. A globally recognized project, Fibershed is working to address and educate the public on the environmental, economic and social benefits of de-centralizing the textile supply chain. "What are we doing? What is our consumption doing to other people's cultures?"  -Rebecca Burgess, founder of Fibershed  In this episode, Rebecca shares more on her exceptional and unexpected path into working in the textile industry. For her, it all started with agriculture, and a happenstance loom that happened to exist at her former university. For Rebecca, she has continued to uncover and discover so many more intricacies of the textile system through her curiosity and drive to consistently ask more questions. Throughout this chat, Rebecca also shares more in depth information on the power that farmers and ranchers hold today to turn around the health of our soil, while becoming climate change heroes. The below thoughts, ideas + organizations were brought up in this chat: Rebecca realized what a fibershed is while she was living in Southeast Asia: "a Fibershed is like a watershed or a food shed - it's a strategic geography that clothes you." "I think there's a danger in abstracting the wearer from the source of the material." Paige Green, photographer Rebecca partnered with in the early stages of building out Fibershed Prototype Wardrobe, project Rebecca developed in 2010 (the beginnings of Fibershed), where she worked with the community around her to develop and wear a prototype wardrobe whose dyes, fibers and labor were sourced from a region no larger than 150 miles from the project’s headquarters Carbon Farming: decarbonizing the atmosphere + re-carbonizing our soils is a process Rebecca has been working diligently on educating farmers, ranchers and larger brands about, in an effort to help them maximize their carbon capture "Everyone who manages a farm or a ranch has the potential of being a complete climate hero." North Face x Fibershed Climate Beneficial Wool project Drawdown, book by Paul Hawken - Rebecca shares how overall, regenerative farming is really how we are going to be able to reverse global warming "Bare ground is what you want to avoid in carbon farming." Gabe Brown, farmer in North Dakota who has been sequestering massive amounts of carbon into his soil through his regenerative farming approach, using cover crops of diverse species that he calls chaos gardens Climate Beneficial Wool, supports fiber production that measurably contributes to balancing the carbon cycle Natural Resource Conservation Service Comet, tool that allows Fibershed and/or farmers model different scenarios, to help them determine how they can maximize their carbon capture Citizen Science Soil Sampling Protocol, developed with UC Davis - it's a toolkit that allows the rancher to take their own soil samples, and they send them to the lab to receive carbon data in their soil per acre (it also allows the farmer or rancher to understand how much carbon they are actually sequestering) The Fibershed blog, stories from their producer program The Fibershed Affiliate Directory, provides a point of connection to the grassroots network of communities organizing around regional fiber systems Post Colonial Bandaid Strategies: "it's like we're rich white people with money and we're going to invest in things that make us feel better in developing countries, and we're going to invest in big global technologies that have high returns and scale really quickly." Rebecca believes that people of means need to be investing in community-based infrastructure. This episode with the lovely Rebecca Niziol is all about recognizing our flow states. Flow is something that's naturally accessible in our bodies and it feels different for everyone. For Rebecca, it's the feeling of ease. For me, it's losing track of time because I'm doing something I'm so immersed in and I totally love. We're this steady stream of love but as we go through life, we get blocked from the pain, trauma and forced actions we experience. Rebecca explains how we can acknowledge our blocks so we can heal, remove them and get back into our natural state, which is of course flow. About Rebecca Rebecca Niziol is the Creator of Work with Soul, an ever-expanding community of support that connects who we are and what we do in soulful ways, as well as the host of The Work with Soul Podcast. She is a movement specialist who brings spiritual tools and practices in down to earth ways. She has taught yoga to the men's national soccer team, guided a group of over two thousand people in meditation. Inside this episode, Rebecca shares Why we're afraid to face our pain and how we can view it in a different way. Why we continually create the loop of feeling stuck and how we can break out of it. How to release the blocks that build up in our natural state of flow. What you'll hear: 3:49- Viewing pain as a portal to the divine. 10:00- How to detach from the feeling of being stuck. 14:47- The difference between forced action and inspired action. 19:29- Getting over the fear of doing something new and trusting the process. 25:49- How we can take inspired action to connect to our natural flow state. My guest is Rebecca Kay Thompson of RKT Wellness Solutions. She’s a lifestyle and wellness coach who brings a holistic approach to solving a broad spectrum of challenges, from health and wellness to relationship coaching, personal finance, and home/office organization. Her honest and practical coaching style helps her clients become proactive in maintaining a fulfilling life of whole wellness. Rebecca emphasizes the simple question, “What does wellness mean to YOU?” This allows her clients to look at the big picture, break down shortfalls, and then focus on improvement. Rebecca has a bachelor’s degree in Leadership Development from Villanova University, where she graduated with many accolades in her 40’s! After conquering her personal battle to achieve wellness, Rebecca has recently added nutrition coaching to her 20-year repertoire. TWEET: “Ep 92 is all about #wellness and how to make it a way of life!” #RebeccaKayThompson “The Wellness Factor” Are you experiencing wellness? Of course, this can mean different things to different people. In addition, the motivation to pursue wellness takes many different forms. For Rebecca, it took losing her mother to pancreatic cancer in 2013, after watching a lifetime battle against wellness. Through chronic illness and countless medications, Rebecca watched her mom struggle and die “the slowest, most torturous death.” When she found herself falling into the same pattern, she put the brakes on her misery from being overweight, unhappy, and unwell. She gives us insight into the critical “Aha moment.” TWEET: “A #sanctuary day is taking the time to be #mindful about myself.” #RebeccaKayThompson “What the universe says to you . . .” Have you come home from a day’s work and simply felt unfulfilled? If this is a recurring feeling, then you may need to take the first step like Rebecca did. She said, “That’s it. I’m going to pursue my dream.” She tells of the many great things that have happened in her life since she changed her focus. A job to pay the bills isn’t the same as one that fulfills your passion and chases your dreams. Rebecca explains why you may need to rethink your college degree field, figure out the next step, and create the BEST version of yourself. TWEET: “When you’re #passionate about something, it will change the world.” #RebeccaKayThompson New Dreams? How many dreams can you chase at once? Can they change over time? The answers are that you can chase as many dreams as you want, and YES, they can change over time. For example, Rebecca wants to write a book someday; she also wants to be a hero. No one knows what the future holds or what opportunities may come, but remember this: multiple dreams ARE allowed and you ARE allowed to change them! TWEET: “When the #universe speaks to you, #LISTEN.” @RebeccaKayThompson Rebecca’s Recommended Action Step: “If you want to be a pig farmer, then call yourself a pig farmer!” Whatever it is that you want to be, create the best version of yourself and don’t forget to dress the part! Rebecca Hardcastle Wright, PhD, founded the Institute for Exoconsciousness to research and apply the abilities of human consciousness sourced in extraterrestrial contact. She created the concept of Exoconsciousness to study of the extraterrestrial origins, dimensions and abilities of human consciousness. Rebecca's signature is bridging consciousness science and extraterrestrial experiencers. Her work encourages us to explore the questions: Do humans have an innate ability to experience extraterrestrial contact? And if so, how does it manifest and what are the implications for our species, our planet and the universe? Exoconsciousness is confirmation of humanity's relationship with the Extraterrestrial Presence. At its heart, it is a social, cultural movement that joins with consciousness scientists, energy healers, spiritual beings, paranormal researchers and near death experiencers to transform how we know ourselves. Her research has broad implications for brain-based neuroscience, transhumanism and quantum based cosmic consciousness. Rebecca's commitment is helping ET experiencers live healthy, integrated and affirmed lives--finding their voice, their power, their community. For Rebecca, the most important thing is "the work of investigating through science and experiences that our human species is created, equipped to experience ET Contact--and that this ability is sourced in our consciousness--our Exoconsciousness." Exoconsciousness normalizes psychic abilities, superpowers, once thought beyond human capacity, as essential for a 21st century species in direct contact with extraterrestrials. She refers to this holistic integration of ET contact experiences that accelerates higher consciousness as "living in the non-local with your feet on the ground." Her research focuses on telepathic communication as well as psychokinesis and the creation of a consciousness craft for space travel. Rebecca is the author of Exoconsciousness: Your 21st Century Mind (2008). In this emerging field, she collaborates with consciousness scientists associated with Quantrek,a zero point energy research group, and the Institute of Noetic Sciences. She is a frequent guest on radio talk shows, appears in films and is a featured keynote speaker. In 2005, Rebecca taught one of the first ufology courses in the United States at Scottsdale Community College, in Scottsdale, Arizona. Currently, she is on the faculty of International Metaphysical University (IMU), where she teaches Exoconsciousness. Rebecca has extensive experience working with UFO and extraterrestrial experiencers. Practicing as a healer, coach and hypnotherapist, Rebecca, a life-long ETI experiencer, developed the field of Exoconsciousness while working with UFO and extraterrestrial contactees. Rebecca trained with Ruth Hover, PhD, who was affiliated with Harvard's John Mack, MD and his Program for Extraordinary Experience Research (PEER). Raised in Clarksburg and Buckhannon, West Virginia, Rebecca then moved to Dayton, Ohio. While living in Phoenix, Arizona, Rebecca was active in the Phoenix Lights community who witnessed the largest and longest mass UFO sighting in the United States. Currently she lives in Washington, DC. Rebecca received her bachelor's degree in philosophy and religion from Otterbein University. She studied continental philosophy (Karl Jaspers concentration) at the Institute for European Studies in Basel, Switzerland. She received a Master of Divinity in philosophical theology at Boston University School of Theology. Rebecca received her doctorate in Parapsychic Science from American Institute of Holistic Theology. She earned her hypnotherapy and life coaching certification from Southwest Institute of Healing Arts.
