Gladbach ist ein sehr großer Verein, ein Traditionsverein, das war sehr ansprechend für mich.“ Über seine Rolle und Spielweise bei den Fohlen sagt der neunfache deutsche Junioren-Nationalspieler: „Als Mittelfeldspieler bin ich klassisch das Bindeglied zwischen Offensive und Defensive. Aufgrund dessen, dass ich gerne viel laufe, versuche ich immer mitten im Geschehen zu sein, immer anspielbar zu sein, auch mal mit nach vorne zu gehen, aber immer die Balance zu halten. In dieser Rolle fühle ich mich sehr wohl. Ich mag es Verantwortung zu übernehmen und eine gewisse Ruhe auszustrahlen im Spiel, um der Mannschaft Sicherheit zu geben.“ Darüber hinaus berichtet Engelhardt, der aus einem kleinen Dorf in der Nähe von Göttingen stammt, vom Leben in Italien, er verrät, was auf den Tisch kommt, wenn er den Kochlöffel schwingt und was für ihn die Fankultur in Deutschland besonders macht.
