Every great spicy wing eating competition consists of three parts or acts. The first part is called "The Pledge." The chef shows you something extremely spicy: a hot wing doused in bright red sauce. He shows you this object. Perhaps he asks you to inspect it to see if it is indeed really, truly, spicy. But of course... it always is. The second act is called "The Turn." The consumer then takes the wing and eats the entire thing. Now you're looking for the discomfort... and you'll find it, because of course this hot sauce is absurd. You want to see them sweat. You want to hear the hiccups. But you wouldn't clap yet. Because eating something spicy isn't enough; you have to keep it down. That's why every spicy wing eating competition has a third act, the hardest part, the part we call "The Prestige." Zach explains his bumpy tongue, Jared will not accept Melissa McCarthy as his Ursula, and Adam once ate spicy wings for medicinal purposes. Talking Points Include: Talking Points Include: The DJ Stylings of Diesel, Flame Protected Milkshakes, Potentially Unnecssary Paramedics, Dirt Identifying Tongue, Picasso's Wing Period, The Prestige Spoilers, The Spiciest Sauce We've Ever Eaten, Wing Bearers

Corrye explores the parallels between Insomnia and Nolan's masterpiece The Dark Knight; Luke gets hung up about one of Hillary Swank's character's "unrealistic" issues; Both Chumps agree Robin Williams was fantastic...but can't articulate what he did differently from every other serious Robin Williams film.PLUS: The fellas point out all the goodies in the brand new Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny trailer. Today's episode is a little different. Sam is really excited about the new Netflix show Kaleidoscope starring Ginacarlo Esposito. He'll explain why! We've gotten the chance to watch a couple of episodes of Kaleidoscope since our recording a couple of days ago. So far, it's really good. We started with the first episode listed in the season and then decided to change it up and pick another randomly. We we're a little floored by how well they worked together. It was almost like the second episode we watched perfectly answered the questions we had from the first we watched. It was a little creepy. I'm sure we'll watch another episode as soon as we can. This week, we watch a film version of a magic trick. With a star studded cast and a great performance by David Bowie as Nikola Tesla, the first viewing experience of this film will likely leave you with your mouth open. The Prestige (2006), directed by Christopher Nolan.
Pop Screen kicks off a special month dedicated to the films of David Bowie with perhaps his last great role, as the enigmatic inventor Nikola Tesla in Christopher Nolan's equally enigmatic thriller. A story of magic, revenge and dead wives (look, we said it was a Christopher Nolan film), it sees Bowie join a remarkable cast including Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Scarlett Johansson, Rebecca Hall, Andy Serkis and Gil from Frasier. On this week's show, Ewan from Cult Following joins us once more to get this Bowie celebration started, discussing the film's superhero-heavy cast as well as his favourite Bowie albums, Bowie's absence from (and return to) public life during the 21st century, Nolan's love of serious men in suits, the genius of Andy Serkis and a story about Ewan accidentally injuring himself in the shower for some reason. It's Pop Screen alright! If you want to help us out financially in our bitter grudge match with Thomas Edison's podcast, you can donate to our Patreon. Among many other goodies you'll get a monthly bonus episode of this show - and we discuss the next one on this episode... Today's guest has been around the arts her entire life. She is the acclaimed and generously creative British actor, writer, director and producer Rebecca Hall. Many of us first saw her in Christopher Nolan's The Prestige and soon after starring in Woody Allen's Vicky Cristina Barcelona. Rebecca witnessed early on what an artist's life could be. Her first on screen appearance was in the TV mini-series The Camomile Lawn at the age of 10. It was also around this time that her father (celebrated stage director Peter Hall) gave her some advice: the key to being an actor is making sure that you remember to live! She talks about her time at University and finding success on stage before appearing on screen again. After The Prestige, Rebecca continued on to a truly incredible career that's lead to multiple awards and critical recognition. Her work includes The Red Riding Triology, The Town, Parade's End, Iron Man 3, Transcendence The Awakening, Frost/Nixon, The Gift, Christine, and Tales from the Loop. Later this year you can watch her in Godzilla vs. Kong. She's a master craftswoman. From sketching actors in the back of her father's stage rehearsals to directing her own projects, you'll hear the stories of how Rebecca pushes beyond expectations to create the art and life that she wants to express. For Rebecca, it all comes back to the work. For exclusive content surrounding this and all podcast episodes, sign up for our amazing newsletter at AlyshiaOchse.com. Welcome to the latest episode of the MOTION PICTURES podcast. Your hosts, Tony Black & Carl Sweeney, on the eve of Christopher Nolan's TENET arriving in cinemas, discuss one of the lesser remembered films in his canon - 2002's INSOMNIA. Starring Al Pacino and Robin Williams as a troubled cop and serial killer respectively, Nolan's second feature is an interesting film - it has aspects of his technique and style but remains definitively unique as the only studio film he didn't create from the ground up. Where does it sit in the Nolan canon? Is it an important film in the development of one of cinema's most divisive auteurs? Crooked Table Podcast - The world of film from a fresh angle
It's April Fool's Day! And because we can all use a bit of silliness right about now, the Crooked Table Podcast is setting aside the usual format for a timely jaunt into the world of magic and illusions. No democratizing the film criticism conversation this week. And this week's special episode isn't even (exclusively) designed to be a tie-in to our just-launched Harry Potter series. Rather, the concept is directly inspired by a longtime friend and recurring guest of the show. The Famous Ashley Grant returns for a third (or fourth) time -- no one really knows -- to discuss her thoughts on the wackiest unofficial holiday, reveal why she prefers magic and illusions over pranks, and tease her latest project. Then we'll discuss some of the best movies featuring witches, wizards, magicians, and illusionists. Spoilers: The Boy Who Lived does get a special mention. So take your front row seat to a podcast episode the likes of which you've never seen, er, heard. And let us dazzle your ears with a fun, laid-back chat about April Fool's Day and all that it entails. Stay safe and sane out there, folks! SHOW NOTES Listen to our Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone episode featuring Bri Azmoudeh of Geeky Girl Gab. And check back in April for the next installment of our Harry Potter series! It's Nolan on the horizon, as the gang discusses the mind-effing films of the famous Christopher. We talk about Christopher Nolan's beginnings, his first films, and the moment where he became the modern day god of cinema, while also spending some time complaining about a certain kind of Nolan fan that really irks us. All of this in a non-linear narrative, of course. It's Nolan, bro. Follow @GeekFruitHQ on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
