Episode 450 – What are Alcohol Withdrawals Like in the First Week? Today we have Sarah. She is 46 and lives in Buckhannon, WV. Sarah has been alcohol free since December 15, 2022. Our latest Ditching The Booze course begins tonight at 7:30pm EDT/4:30pm PDT and it is not too late to register. The 5-week course is called Writing a New Narrative and is designed to help you explore your sobriety story through journaling and writing prompts and it is free for Café RE members. Cafe RE - Use the promo code OPPORTUNITY to waive the set-up fee. Exact Nature: https://exactnature.com/RE20 [02:23] Highlights from Paul: We are four weeks into our ten-episode Q & A series and today's question is “what are alcohol withdrawals like in the first week?” This question as asked by Robyn in Café RE Blue. The answer to this is going to depend on how much you drink on a daily or nightly basis and it's not a one size fits all answer. I highly recommend detoxing under medical supervised care if you consume more than 6-8 drinks daily and have been doing so for several months or years. Quitting cold turkey can be life threatening. 72 hours is the magic number. Once you hit this number, the worst of the physical components are behind you. Paul shares some tips for navigating the first week and shares some of the changes our bodies go through. The whole withdrawal process from one week to several months has a term called PAWS or post-acute withdrawal symptoms. Check out the YouTube video Paul did about this. Thank you, Robyn, for the question, if you want a question answered on the podcast, send your questions to info@recoveryelevator.com. For fun Sarah enjoys arts and crafts, DIY things, and enjoys plants. In high school, Sarah did not drink but grew up around a lot of drinking by her extended family. She never saw anything negative about it. In her early twenties she joined the Air Force where drinking is prevalent. At one point she had a few friends approach her about her drinking to which Sarah took offense. Over the course of the next several years she continued to drink the same way. Despite small consequences, she didn't feel like she had a problem. Around 10 years ago she and her husband were in counseling. She stated in a session that she needed some help and went to rehab after which she was able to stay sober briefly. Sarah says she got a lot out of her time in rehab. For a short period of time Sarah was able to drink moderately, but it increased after a series of negative life events. She started noticing the negative side effects of heavy drinking physically and emotionally. When Sarah got sober this time, she knew she needed to join a community, and someone recommended Café RE to her. She has made great friends since being there and feels like this time in sobriety has been easy and she earned for it to be. Sarah's plan for recovery moving forward: to keep doing the work, attend more chats and start thinking about how to serve others. Sarah's parting piece of guidance: talk about it and reach out with others that have similar experiences. [59:20] Kris' closing: One last reminder that Thursday October 5th is the Recovery Reinvented conference. In person and online attendance is 100% free. Fall is here and Kris is ready for it. The material is prized for how it interacts with heat. It won't break, which is one of the reasons it's part of the building blocks of space exploration. It's a far cry from the historic use of coal as fuel, which is getting phased out from power plants in many parts of the country. It's not just coal that's used here, but also coal waste. "Most definitely, we can use coal waste to make valuable carbon products," Olson said. Luke Stout has been missing since July 2012 from Buckhannon, West Virginia. Despite his family raising alarm bells immediately, police showed reluctance to look into this disappearance, even in the face of evidence that potentially linked Luke to a murder-for-hire plot. Police would even refuse the help of a volunteer search organization that wanted to help the family. While this case remains an unsolved disappearance, there is plenty of evidence to allow anyone who cares to put together a comprehensive picture of what happened to Luke over ten years ago. Dr. Justin Bowers recently came to the College from Upshur County Schools. “For a long time, I have wanted to connect to higher education,” he said. “I was teaching at the high school last year. I loved the opportunity to teach, but really got passionate about helping upperclassmen think about next steps – whether that was higher education, employment or enlisting in the military – that was the most fun I had. “When I saw the position of director of career services and experiential learning was open, I felt like it was a great fit. Being a community member, I have floated around the outskirts of West Virginia Wesleyan College, but to be a part of this community in this role is really, really exciting to me.” The Office of Career Services and Experiential Learning has also moved. Students will find Bowers on the second floor of the Benedum Campus Center in the Student Development suite when they return in August. “My primary roles are going to be networking to make sure we have strong internships and experiential learning opportunities for students,” Bowers said. “I will also be developing career services to help students with building effective resumes and cover letters, interview skills, finding the right job or grad school after college.” Bowers views his office as a campus resource center for students as they look at their next professional steps. “Everybody comes to college thinking about what they are excited to learn, what they are passionate about, what career they want to pursue,” he said. “I think having a resource with very practical steps they can take to move toward their goals is very helpful.” Bowers grew up in Buckhannon and moved back in 2012. He earned a Ph.D. in organizational leadership and has spent the last 10 years pastoring a church locally and working in the school system while building a business for leadership developing and coaching and consulting. He and his wife, Carrie, have four daughters. Source: https://www.wvwc.edu/news/new-west-virginia-wesleyan-college-career-services-director-ready-to-assist-students/ Thank you for listening!

Rebecca Hardcastle Wright, PhD, founded the Institute for Exoconsciousness to research and apply the abilities of human consciousness sourced in extraterrestrial contact. She created the concept of Exoconsciousness to study of the extraterrestrial origins, dimensions and abilities of human consciousness.Rebecca's signature is bridging consciousness science and extraterrestrial experiencers. Her work encourages us to explore the questions: Do humans have an innate ability to experience extraterrestrial contact? And if so, how does it manifest and what are the implications for our species, our planet and the universe?Exoconsciousness is confirmation of humanity's relationship with the Extraterrestrial Presence. At its heart, it is a social, cultural movement that joins with consciousness scientists, energy healers, spiritual beings, paranormal researchers and near death experiencers to transform how we know ourselves. Her research has broad implications for brain-based neuroscience, transhumanism and quantum based cosmic consciousness. Rebecca's commitment is helping ET experiencers live healthy, integrated and affirmed lives--finding their voice, their power, their community. For Rebecca, the most important thing is "the work of investigating through science and experiences that our human species is created, equipped to experience ET Contact--and that this ability is sourced in our consciousness--our Exoconsciousness." Exoconsciousness normalizes psychic abilities, superpowers, once thought beyond human capacity, as essential for a 21st century species in direct contact with extraterrestrials. She refers to this holistic integration of ET contact experiences that accelerates higher consciousness as "living in the non-local with your feet on the ground." Her research focuses on telepathic communication as well as psychokinesis and the creation of a consciousness craft for space travel.Rebecca is the author of Exoconsciousness: Your 21st Century Mind (2008). In this emerging field, she collaborates with consciousness scientists associated with Quantrek,a zero point energy research group, and the Institute of Noetic Sciences. She is a frequent guest on radio talk shows, appears in films and is a featured keynote speaker. In 2005, Rebecca taught one of the first ufology courses in the United States at Scottsdale Community College, in Scottsdale, Arizona. Currently, she is on the faculty of International Metaphysical University (IMU), where she teaches Exoconsciousness. Rebecca has extensive experience working with UFO and extraterrestrial experiencers. Practicing as a healer, coach and hypnotherapist, Rebecca, a life-long ETI experiencer, developed the field of Exoconsciousness while working with UFO and extraterrestrial contactees. Rebecca trained with Ruth Hover, PhD, who was affiliated with Harvard's John Mack, MD and his Program for Extraordinary Experience Research (PEER). Raised in Clarksburg and Buckhannon, West Virginia, Rebecca then moved to Dayton, Ohio. While living in Phoenix, Arizona, Rebecca was active in the Phoenix Lights community who witnessed the largest and longest mass UFO sighting in the United States. Currently she lives in Washington, DC. Rebecca received her bachelor's degree in philosophy and religion from Otterbein University. She studied continental philosophy (Karl Jaspers concentration) at the Institute for European Studies in Basel, Switzerland. She received a Master of Divinity in philosophical theology at Boston University School of Theology. Rebecca received her doctorate in Parapsychic Science from American Institute of Holistic Theology. She earned her hypnotherapy and life coaching certification from Southwest Institute of Healing Arts.
