With special guest: Karen Clarke…in conversation with Bill Kable Have you been bullied? Has anyone in your family been bullied? In her book From Bullied to Brilliant: How to artfully avoid fitting in, our guest sets out how to understand and deal with bullies. In the program today we get to hear directly from Karen Clarke how to bounce back and turn pain into gain when confronted by bullies. We learn that bullying can be experienced by anyone at any stage in life and it is nothing to be ashamed of if you are the victim. It is one of the myths of bullying that the victim has shown some weakness that the bully seizes on but in fact bullies are often attracted to people who possess the very qualities they secretly or unknowingly admire. The seventh episode of 1 in 5: From Bullied to Healed digs into the unique story of Rishi and Tyler, two friends who truly went from bullied to inseparable. While Rishi grew up as an Indian Hindu who was ruthlessly targeted by his classmates for his culture, ability to speak English, and various medical issues, Tyler's primitive years were filled with merciless words and actions directed towards his ADHD, passion for nature, and love of video game music. Although their childhoods were much different from one another, the commonality of Rishi and Tyler's stories as victims of bullying led them to the start of a beautiful friendship during their senior year of high school. To this day, their brotherhood is stronger than ever thanks to the mature realizations they each had as they began to open up with one another. Rishi and Tyler sincerely exemplify what it means for a bully to admit that he or she was wrong, and for a victim to wholeheartedly forgive his or her bully.

From Bullied to Badass to Benefactor - Justin Wren has spent much of his life fighting – from a stellar early wrestling career as prep national champion and Junior National Champion to becoming a star UFC fighter. Early in Justin’s fighting career, he appeared on the Spike reality show, “The Ultimate Fighter,” cementing his reputation as a dominating force in the heavyweight division and his current record is 16-2. But many are surprised to find this 6-foot-3-inch, 265-pound fighter has an even bigger heart. After discovering his faith following a six-year struggle with addiction and depression, Justin stepped away from MMA to find God’s purpose for his life. He soon felt called to serve the Mbuti Pygmy people deep in the jungles of the Congo. While he knew they were an incredibly impoverished people group, he did not know the depths of their pain until he spent time living among them and shared in their suffering. They are enslaved by rivaling people groups, are even cannibalized, and refer to themselves as The Forgotten People. A turning point in Justin’s life was holding a young boy, named Andibo, as he died of a water-related parasite after being refused care by local doctors. Justin’s story is too big to summarize in a short bio so let’s get to our the interview. Let's connect: Website | Facebook | Twitter About Your Host Jim Harshaw My name is Jim Harshaw. And I know where you’re at. You’re working hard and qualified for what you do but you aren’t getting what you want. You have plans on getting to the C-suite or launching a business but ultimate success seems as far away today as ever. You’re at the right place because you can get there from here. And I can help. Who I Am I’m a speaker, coach, and former Division I All-American wrestler that helps motivated former athletes to reach their full potential by getting clarity on what they really want and taking aggressive action to lead their ideal life not just despite their prior failures but because of them. I’m a husband and father of four. And I’m a serial entrepreneur. I’ve launched multiple successful businesses as well as the obligatory failed one. I’ve been the executive director of a non-profit and have raised millions of dollars. I’ve worked in sales. I’ve even been a Division I head coach. While I was born in a blue-collar home I have spent my life surrounded by Olympians, CEO’s and millionaires. Jim Rohn said, “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” I’ve been lucky. I’ve learned the habits of successful people and guess what. You’re just like them. I know because I know your type. You’re programmed for hard work, which is a prerequisite for success, but you’ve never been shown how to use what you know to create the life you want with the tools you have. I will show you how. Why You Are Here You've worked hard to achieve greatness. You’ve set goals and maybe even set records. You’ve definitely failed and you’ve at some point found yourself questioning if you were on the right track. You need to understand this: You are far more prepared to succeed than those who’ve not tried, competed, struggled and overcome like you have. That’s the value of your education as someone who aims high. You are prepared to be as successful as your wildest dreams will allow. Here I will teach you, with the help of brilliant minds that have been shaped by failure, struggle, and adversity, to be who you want to be. I sense that you want this because you have read this far.
