One of the biggest decisions an author has to make, and often their first question: What is the right publishing path for my book? Too many entrepreneurs get stuck comparing traditional, hybrid, and independent publishing without a clear way to evaluate what fit50s their goals. The question you should ask yourself is which path makes the most sense based on your priorities around time, money, control, and how much of the publishing process you want to understand and manage yourself. That's one of many conversations we have inside The Author ROI Lab. I help entrepreneurs step back and think strategically about the book before they invest months of effort. We look at what kind of support they need, what tradeoffs they are willing to make, and how to choose a publishing path that aligns with their business goals, resources, and desired return on investment. If you're considering writing a book and want to make smarter decisions from the start, learn more about The Author ROI Lab at www.RobbieSamuels.com/Lab. And now, let's meet our author panel… Laura Biewer wrote "The Compassionate Notary: A Field Guide to Signings in Hospitals, Hospice and for the Homebound," a practical and heartfelt guide that helps notaries navigate sensitive signings with professionalism, empathy, and confidence when serving clients in vulnerable circumstances. Around 17% of service members who deploy to combat zones come home with PTSD — and for many, the road to recovery is long, difficult, and often out of reach. A new study hopes to change that by pairing a single dose of MDMA — known colloquially as ecstasy — with intensive therapy, potentially compressing recovery into just two weeks.

Send us Fan MailCan bill pay be revived at credit unions? You may remember, perhaps a generation ago, when bill pay was revered by financial institutions because it was viewed as creating stickier members who, having inputted a dozen or two bill pay recipients, were reluctant to change FIs because of the work involved.Bill pay lost a lot of its stick when various fintechs rolled out widgets that collected billpay data so it could be transferred to another institution. The death blow came when many vendors - including most credit card companies - created auto pay tools where a user can choose to pay the minimum or the balance due or amounts in between automatically. That's what I use to pay all my recurring bills and the closest I've come to using oldfashioned bill pay is when I've paid contractors with Zelle a couple times.Cary Strange is on the show to tell how PayOnward plans to change that current practice and, hold on, know that PayOnward is a portfolio company of Black Dragon Capital which talks about PayOnward this way: “PayOnward is a cloud-native universal payments platform that empowers Community Based Financial Institutions to offer a full suite of AI driven digital payment solutions for both business and consumers through an easy to use and efficient integrated solution.”Now know that Black Dragon Capital is a private equity firm founded by Louis Hernandez, Jr. a dozen years ago. He's a longtime credit union tech innovator - think the DNA core system. Hernandez is not a guest on this episode but he is much referenced in it.Listen up.Like what you are hearing? Alan Rozenshtein, research director at Lawfare, speaks with Justin Curl, a third-year J.D. candidate at Harvard Law School, and Arvind Narayanan, professor of computer science at Princeton University and director of the Center for Information Technology Policy, about their new Lawfare research report, “AI Won't Automatically Make Legal Services Cheaper,” co-authored with Princeton Ph.D. candidate Sayash Kapoor. The report argues that despite AI's impressive capabilities, structural features of the legal profession will prevent the technology from delivering dramatic cost savings anytime soon. The conversation covered the "AI as normal technology" framework and why technological diffusion takes longer than capability gains suggest; why legal services are expensive due to their nature as credence goods, adversarial dynamics, and professional regulations; three bottlenecks preventing AI from reducing legal costs, including unauthorized practice of law rules, arms-race dynamics in litigation, and the need for human oversight; proposed reforms such as regulatory sandboxes and regulatory markets; and the normative case for keeping human decision-makers in the judicial system. In this episode, Kathi Enderes sits down with Rob McAuslan, Vice President for Artificial Intelligence at Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU), one of the world's largest and most innovative online universities with more than 200,000 students. Before leading SNHU's AI strategy, Rob taught, worked, and volunteered across Africa, the Mediterranean, and East Asia, working with populations ranging from K-12 students to refugees to graduate scholars. That lived experience shapes everything about how SNHU thinks about AI: not as a tool for automation, but as a means of expanding access, amplifying human potential, and meeting learners exactly where they are. SNHU is no ordinary university. As one of the largest and most innovative higher education institutions in the United States, it has built its reputation on making education accessible to learners who the traditional system has often left behind: working adults, career changers, veterans, and underserved communities. Rob's role as VP for AI sits squarely at the intersection of that mission and the most consequential technological shift of our time. Rob and Kathi discuss what it really means to deploy AI with humans at the center, and what that demands of institutions, leaders, and learners alike. The conversation moves through the practical and the philosophical: How do you design AI experiences that honor the dignity and complexity of every individual? What does skills-based, AI-enabled learning look like for someone who has never had access to it before? And what can higher education teach the corporate world about building AI that actually serves people rather than simply processing them? If you're a CHRO, CIO, learning leader, or business executive wondering how to move beyond pilots and hype, this conversation will show you what responsible, scalable AI adoption really looks like—and how to get started in your own organization. Designing for Excellence: How AI is Transforming Sales Enablement—Insights from Laura FuIn the rapidly evolving world of sales, the integration of artificial intelligence is no longer a futuristic concept—it is a present-day imperative for staying competitive. In a recent episode of The Thoughtful Entrepreneur Podcast, host Josh Elledge sat down with Laura Fu, Head of Revenue Operations and Strategy at DevRev, to discuss the intersection of mechanical engineering, culinary precision, and modern sales strategy. Laura, the author of Designing for Excellence: Sales Enablement in the AI Native World, shares how high-growth organizations can leverage AI to automate the mundane while doubling down on the human elements that actually close complex deals. This episode serves as a strategic roadmap for leaders who want to move beyond the hype and implement AI in a way that truly augments the expertise of their sales professionals.Systems Thinking: Balancing Michelin-Star Rigor with AI VelocitySales enablement is often mischaracterized as a series of disconnected training programs, but true excellence requires treating it as a holistic system that integrates every department from product to marketing. Laura Fu explains that much like a Michelin-star kitchen, a successful sales organization relies on absolute consistency and predictability; every customer interaction must meet a specific brand standard, regardless of which representative is leading the call. By applying "systems thinking," leadership can build repeatable workflows where AI handles the high-velocity, routine tasks—such as call summarization, prospect research, and note-taking—freeing up the human reps to focus on high-value activities like deal qualification and nuanced relationship building. This balance ensures that technology serves as a lever for productivity rather than a crutch that replaces foundational sales skills. The shift toward an AI-native sales environment also demands a fundamental change in leadership engagement and coaching ratios. Effective change management is as much about people as it is about technology, requiring transparent communication to address fears of job displacement while clearly defining where human judgment must remain the final arbiter. Organizations that thrive in this era maintain low rep-to-manager ratios—ideally six or seven to one—to ensure that managers can provide the personalized coaching necessary to interpret the nuances AI might miss, such as tone, context, and unspoken buyer cues. By focusing on leading indicators like the quality of meaningful conversations rather than just lagging revenue metrics, leaders can guide their teams through the discomfort of AI adoption and build a culture of continuous experimentation.Ultimately, future-proofing a sales organization involves establishing strong foundational processes before layering on complex technology. AI moves at the speed of human adoption, meaning that the most advanced tools in the world are useless without a team that is trained to validate AI outputs and prioritize authentic, empathy-based relationships. Leaders must champion this integration by piloting new solutions with small groups, soliciting frontline feedback, and celebrating early wins to build momentum. When AI is used to accelerate research and eliminate administrative debt, it allows the sales force to return to what they do best: building the deep, credible rapport that serves as the bedrock of trust in every high-stakes transaction.About Laura FuLaura Fu is the Head of Revenue Operations and Strategy at DevRev and a seasoned tech leader with an unconventional background in mechanical engineering and culinary arts. Her diverse career path has instilled a unique appreciation for discipline, structure, and creativity in business operations. She is the author of Designing for Excellence: Sales Enablement in the AI Native World and the host of the State of the AI Union podcast, where she explores the impact of artificial intelligence on buyers, sellers, and investors.About DevRevDevRev is an AI-native platform designed to bridge the gap between product development and customer growth. By connecting developers with end-users and sales teams, DevRev helps organizations build more customer-centric products and streamline their revenue operations. The platform leverages advanced AI to provide real-time insights and automate workflows, allowing businesses to scale their excellence while maintaining a deep focus on the customer experience.Links Mentioned in This EpisodeDevRev Official Website: laurafu.aiLaura Fu on LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/laurazfu/Key Episode HighlightsCulinary Discipline in Sales: Applying the rigor of Michelin-star kitchens to create repeatable, high-quality sales processes.Enablement as a System: Why sales success requires breaking down silos between product, marketing, and sales leadership.Augmenting vs. Replacing: Using AI for research and summarization while keeping human judgment at the center of deal qualification. The Manager's Role in the AI Era: The importance of maintaining a low rep-to-manager ratio for high-impact coaching and nuanced deal oversight.Change Management Strategies: Leading teams through technology adoption by prioritizing transparent communication and experimentation.ConclusionThe conversation with Laura Fu highlights that while AI is fundamentally changing the sales landscape, the core tenets of discipline, consistency, and human empathy remain the primary drivers of success. By treating sales enablement as an integrated system rather than a one-off program, organizations can harness AI to eliminate "busy work" and empower their teams to focus on strategic, high-impact engagement.More from The Thoughtful Entrepreneur

https://teachhoops.com/ Breaking down film is only half the battle; the real victory lies in transferring those observations to the hardwood. Film study should act as a "diagnostic tool" that dictates your practice curriculum. If your weekend game footage reveals a recurring breakdown in transition defense or a failure to "box out" from the weak side, those specific clips should be the "pre-game meal" for your Monday practice. By showing players exactly where the breakdown occurred on screen, and then immediately walking onto the court to drill that specific scenario, you bridge the gap between "knowing" and "doing." This creates a sense of urgency and relevance in your drills that generic practice plans often lack. To maximize the impact of film on your practice, you must move from "general observation" to "tactical scripting." Instead of watching a whole game, focus on "Themed Edits"—three minutes of ball-screen coverage, two minutes of offensive spacing, or a segment on "Special Situations." Use these edits to create "Constraint-Based" segments in practice. For example, if film shows your team struggling against a "1-2-2 trap," script a 5-on-5 segment where the defense must trap every first pass. This "Film-to-Floor" pipeline ensures that you aren't just practicing; you are problem-solving. When players see the direct correlation between the video session and the drill work, their "buy-in" and focus increase exponentially. Finally, utilize film to empower player-led accountability. Give your captains or position groups specific clips to "scout" and present to the team. When a player has to explain the "spacing leak" to their teammates, they internalize the concept at a much deeper level. In the mid-season grind, use film to celebrate the "Culture Clips"—the hustle plays, the extra passes, and the vocal communication that often go unnoticed in the box score. By balancing "Correction Film" with "Celebration Film," you maintain high morale while relentlessly pursuing technical excellence. This integrated approach turns your film room into a "classroom of growth" and your practice gym into a "laboratory of execution." Alan Rozenshtein, research director at Lawfare, speaks with Justin Curl, a third-year J.D. candidate at Harvard Law School, and Arvind Narayanan, professor of computer science at Princeton University and director of the Center for Information Technology Policy, about their new Lawfare research report, “AI Won't Automatically Make Legal Services Cheaper,” co-authored with Princeton Ph.D. candidate Sayash Kapoor. To receive ad-free podcasts, become a Lawfare Material Supporter at www.patreon.com/lawfare. Founder and Head of Product Clint Brauer has developed robots that help reduce—or even eliminate—chemical use while improving the efficiency of farming practices. This innovative approach not only protects workers from exposure to harmful substances but also addresses growing concerns about the safety of food and its environmental impact.Clint's journey began with a deeply personal motivation. “Greenfield comes from my dad,” he explained. “I got Parkinson's years ago, about 20 years ago. And so I decided to do something about it. And I thought it was from farm chemicals.” His mission quickly evolved into creating technology that could solve problems for all farmers, regardless of their stance on chemicals. The robots Clint and his team developed are capable of cutting weeds and providing precise foliar feeding. “We weed by day and we foliar feed by night,” Clint shared. By targeting the stomata of the plants, these robots can deliver nutrients effectively while avoiding the need for excessive synthetic fertilizers. This process not only protects crops but also helps regenerate the soil, creating a more sustainable farming ecosystem.Greenfield Robotics has already seen promising results. Operating in 17 states with about 80 robots in the field, the company is steadily scaling its operations. Clint emphasizes that the work is still in its early stages, but the potential for widespread adoption is clear. In addition to its technological breakthroughs, Greenfield Robotics is raising capital through a regulated crowdfunding campaign on StartEngine. Clint's goal is to make the company a grassroots movement, with farmers and consumers becoming co-owners. “We want farmers and consumers to own Greenfield,” Clint said. “Food is one of the very few things we all share.”By reducing chemical use and fostering a more sustainable future, Clint and his team are paving the way for a revolution in agriculture. It's an inspiring story of innovation and determination, with robots leading the charge for cleaner, healthier food.tl;dr:Greenfield Robotics uses robots to reduce farm chemicals, improving safety, efficiency, and sustainability.Clint Brauer's mission is personal, inspired by his father's Parkinson's diagnosis linked to chemicals. The innovative robots weed and feed crops, helping farmers transition to regenerative practices.Greenfield Robotics is scaling operations and raising capital via StartEngine crowdfunding.Clint's relentless perseverance drives his mission to revolutionize agriculture for farmers and consumers alike.Guest ProfileClint Brauer (he/him):Founder & Head of Product, Greenfield RoboticsAbout Greenfield Robotics: Greenfield Robotics is revolutionizing weed control with autonomous farming robots designed to reduce operational and maintenance costs while removing herbicides from the process. Demand has been exceptional: Our entire fleet is sold out this year and with reservations already filled for 2026, our BOTONY™ fleet of robots is helping drive our mission to eliminate all chemicals from farming and food.Website: greenfieldincorporated.comCompany Facebook Page: facebook.com/greenfieldroboticsInstagram Handle: @greenfieldrobotics Other URL: startengine.com/offering/greenfield-roboticsBiographical Information: Clint is a third-generation regenerative farmer turned agtech entrepreneur, with deep roots in Midwest agriculture and a career spanning both broad-acre and greenhouse growing. Before returning fully to farming, he was an early data science systems pioneer at Sony, where he helped launch Sony's e-book systems in North America. He later bridged technology and agriculture by creating a regeneratively grown ingredients supply chain for Canidae Pet Food, proving that scalable, soil-first farming models can succeed inside global consumer brands.Clint's work is deeply personal. His father developed Parkinson's disease after years of chemical exposure on their family farm and ultimately passed away from it—a tragedy echoed across the Midwest, where Parkinson's rates among farmers over 50 have reached epidemic levels linked to long-term herbicide and pesticide use. Greenfield Robotics was born from this reality and a single driving question: What if we could farm without poisoning the people who feed us? Today, Clint is building technology to remove toxic chemicals from agriculture, protecting farmers, restoring soil, and redefining what modern farming can—and must—be.LinkedIn Profile: linkedin.com/in/clintbrauerThe Super Crowd, Inc., a public benefit corporation, is proud to have been named a finalist in the media category of the impact-focused, global Bold Awards.Support Our SponsorsOur generous sponsors make our work possible, serving impact investors, social entrepreneurs, community builders and diverse founders. In this NGPF Speaker Series episode, Tim Ranzetta interviews high school junior Sid Tripathi, founder of the Dollar Investigators, a youth-led initiative teaching elementary students foundational money skills. Sid shares how family conversations about finances and early entrepreneurship shaped his "long game" mindset around saving, investing, and avoiding get-rich-quick thinking. He explains how his team brings concepts like needs versus wants, budgeting, banking, debt, and compound interest to younger learners through hands-on activities and roleplay. Tim and Sid also discuss what motivates students, how to make financial topics immediately relevant, and what Sid has observed about teen investing apps, sports betting, and crypto hype. The conversation highlights how student-led teaching can normalize money talk, build confidence, and plant early "seeds" of financial decision-making. Educators will leave with practical ideas for engaging lessons, inspiring youth leadership, and ways to scale financial literacy impact beyond a single classroom.
In this episode, I'm sitting down with the incredible Dr. Caroline Fleck, clinical psychologist and author of the transformative new book, Validation. We often talk about allyship as a series of seemingly small, intentional actions, and some of the most profound work happens in the small, everyday moments of how we see and hear one another. Dr. Fleck joins me to pull back the curtain on validation—a skill that is frequently misunderstood but serves as a fundamental prerequisite for belonging and true connection. We dive into her "Validation Ladder" and explore how these techniques can revolutionize not just our corporate cultures, but our personal relationships and how we show up for ourselves. 3 Key Takeaways from Our Conversation: Validation is Not Agreement or Praise: One of the biggest hurdles to being a good ally is the fear that validating a perspective means you agree with it. Dr. Fleck clarifies that validation is about acknowledging the truth in someone's experience—showing them you're there, you get it, and you care—without needing to agree with their logic or offer a "good job." The "Validation Ladder" Framework: Effective validation is a tiered process. It starts at base camp with mindfulness (being fully present), moves through understanding (equalizing and contextualizing why someone feels the way they do), and reaches the top at empathy (authentically emoting and taking supportive action). The Power of Self-Validation: Especially for marginalized groups who have been conditioned to "cover" or minimize their feelings to fit in, practicing self-validation is an essential act of reclamation. Using these tools introspectively allows us to honor our own experiences as valid, which is the first step toward showing up as a confident, authentic leader. Follow Dr. Caroline Fleck and get her book at https://drcarolinefleck.com/.

Anecdotal stories suggesting that weight-loss drugs can help people shake long-standing addictions have been spreading fast in the past few years, through online forums, weight-loss clinics and news headlines. And now, clinical data are starting to back them up.Over a dozen randomized clinical studies testing whether GLP-1 drugs like Ozempic can suppress addiction are now under way, and neuroscientists are working out how these weight-loss drugs act on brain regions that control craving, reward and motivation.Scientists warn that the research is still in its early stages, but some researchers and physicians are excited, as no truly new class of addiction medicine has won approval from regulators in decades. This is an audio version of our Feature: Will blockbuster obesity drugs revolutionize addiction treatment? Big construction projects in the U.S. are notoriously unpredictable, often finishing over budget and behind schedule. Part of the problem is the inherent complexity of these kinds of projects, like data centers and first-of-a-kind plants. But there's another problem: the companies that actually build these projects — called EPC firms for engineering, procurement, and construction — often lack strong incentives to control costs or deliver on time. That's the thesis behind Unlimited Industries, a new startup focused on using AI to develop multiple project designs upfront and reduce project risks. So what would it take to actually cut costs and shorten construction timelines? In this episode, Shayle talks to Alex Modon, co-founder and CEO of Unlimited Industries. The company recently announced a $12 million fundraise as it emerged from stealth. Shayle and Alex cover topics like: How EPC incentives and contract structures drive cost overruns Why bespoke projects prevent learning and standardization The role software and AI can play in design and risk reduction EPC Managing risks – including geopolitics, contractor reliability, and supply chains Resources: Catalyst: FOAK tales The Green Blueprint: Shortening the nuclear development cycle from decades to years Catalyst: The cost of nuclear Credits: Hosted by Shayle Kann. In this 2024 fireside chat I share my advice to companies who are looking to bring common sense back into their marketing strategies. Too many companies get scared of taking risks and go back to what's tried and true. I also share my two cents about the importance of the creative and why it is the variable of any marketing conversation. A winning strategy is going consumer up, not boardroom down. It's all about trying new things in your day-to-day advertising and letting the intelligence of AI bring your ads to the right audience!
