Despite the exponential growth of hunting film over the past several decades, The Full Draw Film Tour has stood out as the standard for hunting films of the highest quality. Episode #001 - It's raw and uncut so please excuse the sound quality. We had podcasters, bow hunters and fellow Oregon natives, Brian Call and Kody Kellom on. Brian is the host of one of the top outdoor podcasts on iTunes called The Gritty Bowmen and Kody runs Full Draw Film Tour as well as hosts a top ranked outdoor podcast as well. In this episode, we dig into how to start a podcast (because we put together this podcast in just 2 days and got some great tips on how to run the future podcast chats), how to take the leap from your day job to your dream job, how to turn passions like hunting into careers, and what it takes to find success at success and what the heck Success at Success even means. This podcast was inspired by Lewis Howes School of Greatness, Cameron Hanes Keep Hammering, The Gary V Show by Gary Vaynerchuk, the Joe Rogan Experience, and The Tim Ferriss Experiment.
On this episode of Gritty Bowmen we hang out with friend, Tim Burnett of SOLO HNTR. Earlier this year, I showed Tim a film I was working on to get his opinion on my edit of the film. Long story short, the hunt is a solo blacktail deer hunt. Tim asked me if I wanted to share my film on his TV Show, SOLO HNTR, and the rest is history. The film first debuted at the Full Draw Film Tour earlier this year. But now you can see the film on the SOLO HNTR TV Show that airs this week, starting August 9th on the Outdoor Channel. For more TV show times, go to SOLOHNTR.com or look-up SOLO HNTR on the Outdoor Channel. But if you’re like me, and you don’t really do the TV thing, Tim crushes it on Youtube. You can find a ton of great of content on the SOLO HNTR website and the SOLO HNTR Youtube channel. If you miss my film on the TV show, you can still see it when Tim posts it to YouTube. I hope you enjoy this podcast. I always enjoy hanging out with Tim Burnett. Tim is real. What you see is what you get and I find that refreshing.

In winter 2014 I decided I wanted to learn how to make a good outdoor film. I bought a computer, some editing software and some online tutorials. I started teaching myself how to make a movie. It didn’t take me long to realize I needed help. I stumbled across a 3-day film school hosted by the Full Draw Film Tour. Little did I know, this school would have a profound influence on my life and the advent of the Gritty Bowmen. On this episode of the Gritty Bowmen, I visit with a most excellent friend of mine, Grady Rawls. Grady was one of two instructors at the Full Draw Film School--Kody Kellom was the other. I drank from the proverbial firehose that weekend and I learned more about outdoor filmmaking in those 3 days than I had learned at home in the previous 3 months combined. But it wasn’t what I learned that would change the direction of my life--it was the confidence and the encouragement to follow my passion, given to me by the people I met over those 3 days. People like Grady, Kody, South Cox, Kristy Titus, Ty Stubblefield, Jason Phelps, Josh Keller and more. The Film School dumped gasoline on what previously had been just a spark of a flame. In the subsequent months, I began producing GRITTY content. And whenever I posted a video or a podcast and it seemed that nobody was watching or listening, Grady Rawls was ALWAYS there. He was a teacher and a mentor--but more than that, Grady believed in me and never stopped heaping gasoline on my fire. And for that, I am deeply indebted to him. On this episode of Gritty Bowmen, we hang out with Corey Jacobsen of Elk101, Kody Kellom of Full Draw Film Tour and Born And Raised Outdoors, and our mutual friend Clint Radford--elk hunter, blacktail hunter, high school teacher, Sitka gear-junky, and family man. On this podcast we finally talk about #PROJECTSUCCESS or rather, UEH. The University of Elk Hunting--this is Corey’s new online elk hunting course. This course is the culmination of 30-years of elk hunting experience. In fact, the course is more than 120,000 words, has more than 70 video components and hundreds of diagrams and images. This course is seriously awesome. On this podcast, Clint tells us about his thoughts on the training courses. This podcast can’t help but come off as a giant sales-pitch to get you to buy this online course--and even though that’s kinda what this podcast is--it’s also way more than that. I really do believe that the course is worth every penny to every elk hunter out there. And, shamelessly, I would love to see Corey get wildly rewarded for the work he’s put into this course and for the knowledge he freely shares to help elk hunters across the world find greater success year after year in the elk woods. Corey has worked his butt off to make this online course come to life. So sit back, listen to the show and if you like what you’ve heard--do yourself a solid, and enroll in UEH. The discount code is GRITTY40--the word GRITTY, G R I T T Y and the number 40--with this discount code you’ll save 40% off the University of Elk Hunting online course. The code expires on Halloween night. It’s $59 bucks with the code and $99 dollars without it. It’s worth every penny. Stay GRITTY friends! http://www.elk101.com/onlinecourse/
Kody Kellom joins the show to talk about this year's Full Draw Film Tour (FDFT). We also dive into some elk hunting topics. You don't want to miss the FDFT, so be sure to check out the show notes and see when the tour will be coming to your area! http://exomountaingear.com/35

This week on Gritty Bowmen we travel to Tamarack Idaho for the annual NW Mountain Challenge Archery Shoot and we talk to Corey Jacobsen, 7-time world champion elk caller, elk killing machine, and Owner of Extreme Elk Magazine, and most importantly, Husband and father to 3 awesome kids, Isaac, Jessi, and Samuel. Young Isaac is quite the elk caller—here he is giving my hunting partners, Ben and Anthony a lesson on how to bugle with attitude. The NW Mt. Challenge was a total blast. After Corey graciously spent the late-afternoon shooting this podcast with us, we had the pleasure of spending the evening shooting our bows on the night course with he and his family. We met is lovely wife Jennifer, who is super cool for many reasons, not least of which because she’s an archer and shoots a cool bow. The night shoot at Tamarack was super cool and was fun for the whole family. Donnie Drake, Corey’s longtime friend and hunting partner shot the night course with us and we were able to get a glimpse of the brotherhood these men share. In today’s podcast you’ll hear about what makes a good hunting partner. Corey will tell you how long he’s hunted with his hunting partners and why. And you’ll learn about things such as Corey’s dream situation for killing big bulls. If you missed the NW Mt. Challenge in Tamarack ID you can still attend the NW Mt. Challenge at the Hoodoo Ski Resort in Oregon July 24th, 25th, & 26th. There are 4, 3-D courses on the mountain, including a kids course. There are archery competitions. Raffles and more. The Full Draw Film Tour will be at Hoodoo Saturday night with a presentation of the film tour on a big outdoor screen. And you can see our film there. We hope to see you at Hoodoo!
On this episode of Gritty Bowmen we are back in Tamarack Idaho for the annual NW Mountain Challenge Archery Shoot and we talk to Ty Stubblefield and Josh Keller of Born and Raised Outdoors. We discuss Ty’s new role with BackCountry Hunters & Anglers as Chapter Coordinator and the importance of conservation, the threat against our hunting lifestyle and how we can join the fight to preserve our traditions, values and way of life. If you’re not familiar with Born and Raised Outdoors you should take some time to get to know these boys through their films which are some of the most real, honest and entertain elk hunting films I’ve seen. I really hope you enjoy this podcast because it’s important—the opposition facing hunters today is very real—and Ty Stubblefield is one of those people who is on the front-lines battling to keep our public lands public. In today’s podcast we travel to Hoodoo Oregon for the second-leg of the NW Mt Challenge. We meet up with Kody Kellom of Born and Raised Outdoors and Jon Walusiak, joint owners of the Full Draw Film Tour. Jon is also the owner of W- Design company. These two guys are the engine that run the Full Draw Film Tour. Now... some of you may be asking, “what is the Full Draw Film Tour?” To quote the Gritty Scotsman, “If you donn’a know what the tour is, you need to climb out from under the rock you been livin’ under and listen to this podcast.” In this podcast you’ll learn all about the Full Draw Film Tour. You’ll learn about Jon and Kody’s vision behind it. As Kody said: “Our goal with the FDFT is to capture them, move them, and change them.” You’ll hear Kody and Jon’s opinion on the 3 ingredients that make a good film based on their combined years of experience running the tour and literally observing nearly 100 different audiences--learning what they like, what captures them, what moves them and what changes them. I first met Kody at the FDF School. Where I met South Cox, Kristy Titus, Born and Raised Outdoors, Joe Sanchez, Grady Rawls, Walt Ramage and more. We were put into teams of 3 and I was grouped with Kristy Titus and Josh Keller who were a TON of fun. And these people inspired me. And for this reason and many more, I have a special affection for this tour and these guys. It’s undeniable that the Full Draw Film Tour has had a huge impact on my life. So it was pleasure to sit and talk to Jon and Kody about the tour. To hear about the money they’ve raised for charities like hunt of a lifetime and Wishes for Warriors. To hear how the tour has inspired people and changed lives. I STILL think the tour should have been called The GRITTY Full Draw Film Tour, but whatever. I’m Brian Call, and I’m your host, Mark Brownlee--the Gritty Scotsman--is my co-host and without Further ado, here is today’s podcast.
