I don't think any career path in military infantry is more associated with killing than a sniper. But how close to reality is that perception?  Welcome to the Just Dumb Enough Podcast. A show that acknowledges no one is always an expert, by dispelling misconceptions with real experts.  My guest today is Johnathan Taylor. JT was a Marine Scout Sniper with multiple tours of duty in the Middle East before shifting to a job working with the Department of Veteran's Affairs. His experiences overseas paint a picture you may not have considered before, because it's not the primary focus of action movies. And maybe that contributes to the attitude that distance from a horrible event is proportional to the amount of mental trauma one develops. But that's a crazy thought to have! Join me as we learn more about this! ( Www.ScoutSniper.Org ) ( Www.MagicMind.Com/Dumb 20% off with Discount Code: DUMB20) Let's find a hidden position! Thank you all for listening. I know we covered a lot of stuff there, but I hope everyone takes what JT said to heart when he said "trauma is trauma". It really doesn't matter how you developed it, so long as you can remember that it's just as valid for you to have it as anyone else, and that you seek help. "It's not your fault, but it is your responsibility." Especially going through these seasons where having a little helping hand can make all the difference. Speaking of the season, it's almost halfway through the last month, and things are looking promising behind the scenes. Here are the updated rankings: 1. The United States, led by New York, South Carolina, and Oregon. 2. Germany. Still battling the US for number one! With Berlin topping the internal leaderboard. 3. The United Kingdom, with England now way ahead of the others 4. Australia, desperately holding on thanks to New South Wales. 5. Canada, almost back from the dead! Led by previous powerhouse Ontario. That's it for this week! Have a great week, a great weekend, and I'll see you all back here for the next episode! Until the next episode, please do all the things to help the show: rate, review, like, and subscribe.  Reach out to DumbEnoughPodcast@Gmail.Com or on any social media if you want to reach me personally. In the Marine Corps he became a scout sniper and had a traumatic experiences with death of fellow marines where he earned the Navy and Marine Corps Medal as well as almost losing his life during a beach landing. The Everyday Sniper Podcast: Marine Scout Sniper's are History Disturbing news dropped this week, on Tuesday, One day before the anniversary of Carlos Hathcock's passing, the USMC announced they are doing away with Scout Snipers as they currently exist.  Traditions mean nothing anymore and the Marines are being gutted in a lot of way.  Tim Parkhurst President of the Scout Sniper Association is on the podcast with me discussing the details.  Tim lays out the new orders and the direction the USMC plans on taking themselves in terms of the Sniper community.  It appears from Tim's reading of the Orders the Basic Scout Sniper School is going away. In fact the 0317 MOS will be retired, going away.  The details are public if you want to dig deeper. But I really appreciate Tim reaching out to me regarding this development.  With that said, the USMC Scout Sniper Association is stronger than ever with a lot of events and plans in motion.  Check out the Website for all the details, and be sure to support where you can. https://scoutsniper.org/ Also we are currently engaged in our 03/17 Day Sweepstakes for the Terry Cross Rifle I spoke about, you can enter here: https://scoutsniper.org/scout-sniper-annual-sweepstakes/ Terry Cross Zealot Rifle package with NF Scope is available.  Guys as always, thanks for listening, thanks for sharing, be sure to comment, and thank you Tim for joining me today.  Lowlight

This week's Urban Valor episode features Marine Scout Sniper & Vietnam combat veteran, RJ Jackson. RJ enlisted into the Marine Corps in 1966 after hearing one of his good friends was shot and killed in Vietnam. He was selected to become a scout sniper after demonstrating expert proficiency with his rifle. During his tour in Vietnam, RJ was ambushed and wounded multiple times. During one ambush he was hit with a grenade and took shrapnel all over his body. As he lay on the ground to play dead, several enemy fighters walked past him thinking he wasn't alive. RJ said some of the enemy fighters who walked by him were Chinese, which one of his Lieutenants confirmed later. Sitting down with and hearing RJ story was an honor, and we're proud to have documented it and solidified it's place in history. At Urban Valor, our mission is to give Veterans a voice by presenting them with a platform to share THEIR story in THEIR words, allowing them to share the story they wish to share. Ed was notified he was under investigation months after returning home but naively assumed his command and investigators would see through the absurdity of what was being said. After all, the claims of this small group defied eyewitnesses, logic, and were downright outrageous. Then, on September 11, 2018 he was arrested and unjustly charged with war crimes. He was arrested from a TBI (traumatic brain injury) treatment clinic and thrown in jail with a prison population of convicted sex offenders for eight months before his trial. He was denied desperately-needed medical care, legal counsel, and even basic necessities like food and hygiene. The actions of the government - the very Navy Eddie served for 20 years - were appalling. The public has a high expectation that law enforcement officers should be able to see in the future and know what is going to happen on a call for service. We have seen new legislation that is based upon this presumption, especially in situations where force is used. How exactly are officers supposed to learn how to see into the future, much less through clothing and concealed areas to know if there is a weapon present on a suspect or not? Today's guests on the Policing Matters podcast may be able to show us how we can sharpen our senses and use science to help us predict outcomes based on human reactions. When US Marines admit they are exhausted and tired, I assure you that you have no idea what that really means. They do not give in to tired and exhaustion. United States Marines are the toughest fighting force this planet has ever known. Even they have limits and struggles. After all, they are human. We begin to hear Grant's struggles as they finish up the battle of Fallujah and prepare to come home.

The movie "A Few Good Men" was based on real life events. David Cox was a motivated Marine Scout Sniper on Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. He did participate in a code red that inspired the movie, however in reality no one died as a result of the hazing. The police believe that David may have known his killer. His body was found in a nature reserve on the Charles River. It was a twenty minute walk into this secluded area, between two shooting ranges. There was almost a foot of newly fallen snow in the area, yet he did not wear boots, however in a startling contrast, David was attired in some military gear, that he seldom chose to wear, was this a ruse? This case is a real whodunit!! Please share this episode! Subscribe on Apple or Spotify!Thank you to our sponsor:A Great Podcast: Military True Crime Addicthttps://apple.co/32NkYJu

Our next guest has one of the strongest American names I’ve ever heard and it’s fitting because he is a true American hero. A Santa Barbara, CA native, he joined the Marine Corps after 9/11 and initially served in the Infantry, then as a PSD (Personal Security Detail) and then as an elite operator in the Marine Scout Sniper platoon deploying to Iraq in 2009 and 2010. After retiring from the military, his desire to serve his country and humanity continued while working with a non-profit called Direct Relief International where he was deployed to Haiti twice in 2010 in efforts to help NGO’s (non-governmental organizations) and hospitals get medical supplies after the horrific earthquake that devastated the country. Following his 5 year stint with the non-profit, he moved into private security for a year, doing executive protection for clients based in Santa Barbara and Los Angeles. Basically an overwhelmingly qualified baby sitter at times I would assume for some celebrities and big business personal, but I digress… Now a days, he is the range master for the Santa Barbara Police Department for the past 8 years and in his spare time he runs a firearms training company, DEFEND, where he teaches professional firearms training and tactics derived from real world scenarios and experiences making the training from him the highest of quality, which is what separates him from some of the ‘Influencer firearms instructors’. As if that wasn’t impressive enough, he’s a father of 2 daughters, a husband and has a Kinesiology degree from one of the most prestigious Kinesiology departments in the country, Westmont College, also my alma mater. He’s a warrior, a pipe hitter built like a Brock, his favorite music artist is Lady Gaga, and he’s a man your kids should look up to be like when their older because he embodies what being a true American hero really is… Give it up for our next guest to the show, Nate Brock!

Until the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq he held the record for the most confirmed kills in the United States military. He was known by the army he hunted as "White Feather" for the single white feather he kept tucked in a band on his bush hat. In this episode we brought on special guests from the Army Sniper community, Christopher Roberts and Christopher Rance. Both Roberts and Rance have spent some time not only as Snipers but as instructors at the US Army Sniper School in Fort Benning, GA. At Modern Day Sniper, we want to ensure the term "Modern Day Sniper" doesn't just revolve around what "Caylen and Phil" are up to, but to ensure all of our audience understands that being a Modern Day Sniper is a mindset that we are always learning and always evolving to be as proficient as we can in how we employ our long range precision rifle system, regardless of application. Obviously, for military snipers, it's the development on how to be as proficient and lethal on the battlefield as we can be. For the longest time we've wanted our Army counter-parts to talk about their community and some of the differences of being employed as a Sniper in the Army versus as a Marine Scout Sniper. We've decided we wanted to make this a series, to ensure those that are listening are getting the full understanding of the Army side of the house, from their pipeline, to how their employed, their weapon systems and what are some curriculum differences between their program and the Marine Scout Sniper program. We hope you enjoy this series and please let us know if you have any questions about the Army Sniper program in the comments for the next podcast for us to answer.Don't forget to grab your free pass to the Modern Day Rifleman Virtual Summit. Doing this show, we meet some guys with incredibly interesting backgrounds. Todd Opalski's history is particularly unique though, making the transition from serving in the Marine Corps as an Officer, a Marine Scout Sniper, and a part of Force Reconnaissance, to then going into the Army and being an Assault Commander in the Special Missions Unit. Prior to that, Todd was also a natural bodybuilder. After leaving the military, Todd transitioned to the tech world in Silicon Valley. So, you may wonder, where does one go from there? Todd has a pretty awesome plan for 2019 to open Camp Zen Commando in Costa Rica. Zen Commando plans on instructing people in a wide array of skills from self-defense to yoga. Todd's even looking for some people to help him on this journey which he gets into with us. Enjoy this great in-studio interview, and be sure to leave a review on Apple Podcasts when you're done with it. Learn more about your ad-choices at https://news.iheart.com/podcast-advertisers

On this episode, we get into some war stories that are certainly not for the faint of heart.  Jesse is a Marine Scout Sniper who served with Jason Delgado, and is one of the names featured in his memoir "Bounty Hunter 4/3."  Jesse also served in the Army with Special Forces, though he seems to look more highly upon his years as a Marine, and he talks about why. We also speak on the massacre in Texas, and the hero of the situation, Stephen Willeford who stopped the shooter in his tracks.  SOFREP has been doing a stellar job covering the situation, and we read from one of the articles on the site digging deeper into the situation written by Green Beret Mark Miller.  We love hearing from our audience, so shoot over any emails to sofrep.radio@sofrep.com.  Your input is always much appreciated. The Total Tutor Neil Haley will interview Jason Delgado, Author of BOUNTY HUNTER 4/3. Jason Delgado knows the mean streets. He survived them as a kid during the height of the crack epidemic that ravaged the South Bronx, while friends and family fell into the violence wrought by the drug plague. As a young man he survived them again – a different type of “mean streets” -- this time as a lead sniper during Operation Iraqi Freedom. In his powerful memoir, BOUNTY HUNTER 4/3: My Life in Combat from Marine Scout Sniper to MARSOC (St. Martin's Press, on sale October 3, 2017, $27.99), co-authored with Chris Martin, Delgado recounts how surviving the Bronx was crucial for lessons needed for surviving Iraq, and just as important to him, discovering who he was as shaped by his lifelong battles here and abroad. ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Jason Delgado is an accomplished sniper, entrepreneur, tattoo artist, and father. He escaped the dangers of life in the streets of the Bronx only to battle for his life in Iraq during two combat tours as a Marine scout sniper. One of the most important snipers and instructors of the modern era, Delgado helped shaped the future of sniping for American specialist operations while serving as MARSOC's first lead sniper instructor. He is currently working for a security services contractor in Afghanistan as Movement Team Leader for Garda World Global Services.
