Jasmine Mian was elected Councillor for Ward 3 in the Calgary General Election on Oct. 18, 2021. She is the youngest woman ever elected to Calgary City Council. A second-generation Canadian, Councillor Mian holds Masters degrees in Public Policy and Psychology and has worked in both the private and public sectors. She represented Canada in the sport of wrestling at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Councillor Mian is passionate about pedestrian and road safety due to being struck by a driver when she was only four years old. She completed her Master's thesis on pedestrian safety and continues to advocate for safer streets. Perhaps few have walked a more unique path. Born at Pasqua Hospital in Regina, Jeff Walters was raised by a loving couple with roots in Saskatchewan going back generations. He is now the leader of the Saskatchewan Liberal Party. Jeff worked his way through university with the help of scholarships and student loans. Specializing in Human Rights, he attained a PhD (ABD) in Sociology. Recruited out of graduate school, Jeffrey came to Regina permanently in 2006 to work as a Senior Programs Officer for Agriculture and Agri-food Canada. From there, he moved on to the Federal Indian Residential Schools Adjudication Secretariat, specializing in compensating victims of residential schools in Canada, before being hired by SGI CANADA in 2011 as a Corporate Business Consultant. In 2012, Jeff received his first contract to teach a course at the University of Regina as a sessional lecturer. Currently, he is one of only a handful of full-time instructors at the University of Regina that has been designated IV (A) Priority, a position title showing the highest seniority at the university for a Sessional Lecturer. He teaches predominantly for the Department's of Sociology and Justice Studies. Jeff, his wife Kristin, and 5 children are proud to be residents not only of the great province of Saskatchewan, but of the wonderful City of Regina as well. The rich, complex, and sometimes messy lives we lead as women allow us to birth remarkable stories and experiences. And those are the stories that heal us and connect us to one another. We need that more than ever. There is no “village” to raise our kids. We create the village; on the internet; in our kids’ schools. Within these communities, we find the antidote to feeling profound isolation. Providing listeners with the conversations on MILF podcast is a way for me to help mitigate that isolation for moms in all stages of motherhood. At least for one hour. I never felt so alone as when I was first home from the hospital, by myself with my newborn, and I was certain that I was already failing.
