In this episode, we prowl the back alleys of London to get to the bottom of one of Andrew Lloyd Webber's defining musicals: Cats. We didn't leave Tom Hooper out of this though, because, for this episode, we're cats too. And you're a cat. We're all cats. No, no, don't look too closely at the CGI, just trust us, you're definitely a cat. Joining us to find the pick of the litter (and indulge in a surprising amount of musical numbers) are Claire Mulkerin, Miles Schneiderman, Annie Craton, and MeganBob! As we weave our way through the dark sidestreets and the musical numbers we try to sniff out if Rum Tum Tugger is all talk. Are we willing to be one of Jennyanydots projects? Can we get Munkustrap to actually talk about himself for a change? And wait, which one is Cassandra again? Hard Choices has been wild before, but this is Hard Choices after we've been hitting the catnip and a little drunk on cream. We finish up the Tales of a Gutsy Ninja arc and uncover Sasuke's love of cats in this two-some filler eps! Also, we agree that Cats: The Musical sucks.
Cats is a movie that actually was released in theatres back in the before times when that happened back in 2019. It is based on the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical of the same name...kind of. Enjoy our third and final installment of our format-breaking saga that started with Jimmy wanting to watch A Very Brady Christmas, Dan wanting to watch Perri for Valentine’s Day, and now Audrey unintentionally opening up a series of rabbit holes involving the existential dread that is Cats in all of its forms. Enjoy as we explore the important questions: is Jimmy a furry? Are cats dogs? Does Dan have a soul? Is Justice League accidentally a comedy? Is this movie accidentally porn? All the usual questions are answered in this episode of Scooping The Box.

As a young actor, my first big break was being cast as the 'Magical Mr. Mistoffelees' in a brand new national touring company of the blockbuster Broadway musical CATS. While I was 'living the dream' during those years in the 1980s, a nightmare called HIV/AIDS was taking thousands of lives from us. As a company, we wanted to do 'something,' so in 1987, we organized one of the first large-scale benefits performances by a touring company to help those affected by HIV. Amazingly, we raised over $36K in one night. Fast forward to today, and another viral pandemic is here. A few months ago, one of my former CATS castmates reached out to say, "Anyone want to do it again?" And so, we did. "With Love, Now and Forever! Cats4CovidRelief" premiered on October 23 and has so far raised over $21,000 to help those in the theater community affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The video event is currently available on YouTube here: https://youtu.be/TKmFNBpsj2o Today, I'm talking to two of my closest CATS castmates, Grammy Award-winner Leslie Ellis and two-time OutMusic Award-winner Matt Zarley, about this recent company reunion, collaborating on this special, uplifting video event, and reminiscing about the experience that was CATS. You can see Matt's moving video tribute featuring Leslie's gorgeous new take on "Memory" here: https://vimeo.com/463622446/aa0b820ad5

The Braw and The Brave is a podcast about people and their passions. Episode 104 is in conversation with trained ballet dancer Stephen Martin Allan. Moving from Glasgow to Canada as a teenager with his family he was accepted on a full scholarship to attend Canada National Ballet School despite having very little ballet training. His innate talent and impressive work ethic saw him receive awards during his time at the school and then go on to attend Guildford School of Acting in the UK. During his first year there he auditioned for CATS The Musical in Vienna and was cast as Mr Mistoffelees. Now living and working on the production in Vienna, Stephen also has a real passion for commercial dance and is teaching as well as performing. His story is one of self belief, determination and the real work behind the pursuit of a dream. Enjoy! Cats. It's coming to a theater near all of us later this month, but it's been a meme-worthy punching bag all year thanks to early trailers and the internet's never-ending hunger for things to ridicule. Sure, the new movie's CGI cast of cats looks kind of creepy. But do Matt and Tony have any skin in the game to either mock or stick up for Andrew Lloyd Webber's feline phenomenon? Nope, so here it is - the What Did We Miss? Cats episode. The guys talk about their familiarity with big Broadway productions and memories (sorry) of Cats as this strange thing they'd see commercials for during daytime TV when they were kids. They also talk about the merits and awfulness of cats in general, which they're pretty evenly split on. Then they dive into the music, the show's origins in T.S. Eliot poems, the performances, and the horny as hell characters in what they can't believe has been referred to as the "number one family musical of all time." Spoiler alert: Cats is pretty fuckin' weird, folks.

Next, Sam explains the plot of Cats, just so we can all understand the movie when it comes out. Grab some popcorn, watch out for aliens, and Stay Horrified!

Two dog people watch a musical about cats. One of them cries. Emma and Danica wonder if there's a point to the extremely successful and long-running musical from Andrew Lloyd Webber while discussing weird soda, rapping Rum Tum Tugger, and Otis the old gumbie dog. Also there's a movie coming out this year?? I wonder what that's gonna be like. Email: secondimpressionspodcast@gmail.com Twitter: @impressionspod Instagram: @secondimpressionspodcast

Episode 2: We talk about the differences between freelancing and a permanent theater position. Adam wants to be a lackey. Alessandro pretends he's in charge of his life. No one understands Cats: The Musical.
He is the original Conjuring Cat. He is peak Grizabella. He is…the most cultured guest EVER to grace the LC mic. Tyler Coates is here - and class is in session. Tyler saw Bernadette Peters on Broadway more times than you did (listen and check and report back to me). Tyler saw Beauty And The Beast ON ICE as a child (and it was formative - can you say the same?). And if that wasn’t enough culture - the man has seen CATS THE MUSICAL!! Yes honey, Tyler’s “culture that defined him” is Cats the Musical - so buckle up the little ones and rum tum tug on this spicy podcast. Jennifer Lawrence gets dragged. The Oscars get dragged (Kobe Bryant?? Seriously???). Even Balloons get dragged. Like the famous saying goes: “no one is safe from these Advanced Actresses!” LAS CULTURISTAS HAS A PATREON! Also, guess who's wrong this week?! Enjoy!
Georgina Pazcoguin, now playing Victoriathe Cat in Andrew Lloyd Webber's iconic musical CATS joins host Robin Milling. For the sake of familiarity, Gina met Robin for an informal chat in Central Park with her adorable black Labs in tow, Jett and Marco, to talk about her turn as the white cat. Gina tells Robin walking in the park is essential for her to wind down on her days off from her hectic Broadway schedule; doing eight shows a week. A day in the life of CATS for Gina begins with ballet class where she puts on her pointe shoes so she can keep herself in shape for the vigorous Andy Blankenbuehler dance work-out followed by acupuncture and physical therapy. On hiatus as a soloist for The New York City Ballet, she had to learn how to apply her own Victoria make-up which proved to be a learning curve for the self-described “rogue ballerina.” While still working with NYC Ballet, she practiced in her dressing room psyching herself up with songs like Cat Scratch Fever and What's New cat. Cat themes are all the rage backstage at the Neil Simon Theater where becoming a cat entailed studying videos and channeling your inner feline nature. Gina tells Robin she modelled Victoria after a close friend's cat named Emma, “she is this beautiful white-gray cat who is kind of like a dog. She come when you call. She is a little shy. And kind of my inspiration for Victoria.” Listen here for more behind-the-scenes stories including “owning her body in a white unitard” and a very special opening night gift Gina gave her CATS cast mates. If you can't tell from the squeals of delight, Emily is super excited to finally focus an entire episode on her love for cats! Since we did an episode raising our glasses to dogs last year, we found it only appropriate to give our feline friends some equal love and attention (even if they don't appreciate it). This episode's wine: Casillero del Diablo 2012 Pinot Grigio, Chile This episode's cheese: Roasted Garlic with Tomato & Basil cheese Visit our website, classylittlepodcast.com for more info! Clearly, this is all about the musical, "Cats." No, not really, but we do talk about Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical based on T. S. Eliot's book, "Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats." Emily's cats tend to distract us for this episode ... although, they distract us from most other episodes, but we didn't edit it out this week. Lots of "dawwws" and sighs over cats throughout this episode. We call dogs "whorish" a few times in this episode just because cats are so particular about who they show affection to. James tells us about the numerous historical figures who love cats, almost as much as Emily does. And, be prepared for Emily to go crazy-cat-lady with the puns in this episode. Some of those mentioned are Albert Einstein, John Lennon, Sir Isaac Newton and Freddie Mercury! No Google search would be complete without finding some cats on the Internet, including Bonsai Kittens, the Kitty Cat Dance, Simon's Cat, Nyan Cat, the eHarmony Cat Lady (and the Songify remix video), Grumpy Cat, and more! Why are cats so popular on the internet? We find a few theories about this phenomenon. James talks about heroic cats who have made the news, and how they've captured our hearts. Emily drops her mic following her diatribe about the idiocy of Timmy getting stuck in the well all the time. We also find out people can volunteer their time playing with cats at local shelters! And, we implore Christian Bale to come on our podcast, yet again! Want to watch some heroic cats? Watch the videos in our show notes! We discuss some fun facts about cats, including why cats are known for getting stuck up trees and why you should stop scaring your cats with cucumbers. And, Emily has a new cat-related obsession: Putting YouTube Videos on that are specifically for cats. We finally found a way to keep cats' attention! A much less beloved jew may or may not be living in my building! GAAAAH! Anyway this week we talk about my blood sugar, defensive writers, cats, Cats: The Musical, Tim Burton, and other pressing topics. There is also Difficult People commentary for episodes 5 and 6 with none other than Scott King! Faeries and cogs for each of you. Gadzooks!
Happy Ryan "Hot Lips" Houlihan Day! This week's show features TV Critic JAMES PONIEWOZIK, who is here to tell us what to watch this summer. Also: A street harasser expresses his desire to scratch Julie's summer scalp, an open call for Coen Bros-themed tattoos, Robin Leach's fascinating wife, White Castle and its disgusting food and enigmatic "Hall of Fame," an extensive discussion of Denis Leary's new TV show, how looking back is a thing one does when one is depressed, rejecting the notion of watching a new thing, damnit! Plus: Welcome back, Rosie O'Donnell's trutherism on The View! CATS: The Musical, now returning to the state with rapping! Why they shoula hired Paul Giamatti for AMERICAN HUSTLE. And Baby Boomers' Terminator vision. Hey! There are t-shirts for sale now at HowWasYourWeek.com! That's a bonus thing as well. Enjoy!
Oh, hi! How are you doing? Okay! This week's episode of How Was Your Week features two fascinating and intelligent guests, plus a long ramble from Julie at the top of the show about the tautological and downright Jeff Foxworthian lyrics of the opening number from CATS: The Musical. Where are you going? There's more! First, Steve Kandell, the Editor-in-Chief of SPIN Magazine is here to tell a great story about the time Bono blessed his unborn child. Then, Tig Notaro joins Julie to talk about her recent terrifying hospital visit, Butterflies and whether they bite, and the extreme highs and lows she's experienced in the last few months alone. Also--Jason Alexander's impassioned pleas, a warning to take pro-biotics all the damn time. what C-Diff is, the last line of "Beasts of the Southern Wild," why bacon needs to pack it in, what pretension really means, dogs wearing bandannas, and a sad story about Tig's loss and resilience. And finally, in a bid to stay economically viable and (as of now) ad and network-free, we're asking for PayPal donations to klausnerama (at) gmail (dot) com, if you are so inclined. It's called "Tip Spoony," and all the cash will go to me and Chris Spooner, so we can continue to give you Class-A entertainment week to week. Plea over! Anyway. This is an important and thought/feeling-provoking show! I hope you love it.
