The second half of our season preview on the Oregon Ducks examines their talented defense. Mario Cristobal has brought in elite players like Kayvon Thibodeaux and Noah Sewell, and Justin Flowe, and new defensive coordinator Tim DeRuyter may present Ohio State and their young starting quarterback with some looks that they haven't seen before. Can the Ducks slow down the Buckeyes enough to pull off a big upset win in the Horseshoe?James Crepea, the Ducks beat writer for the Oregonian and the host of the James Crepea show joins host Tom Orr for part two of their season preview for the 2021 Oregon Ducks football team.
It's a year later than initially planned, but Ohio State and Oregon are set to kick off one of 2021's most-anticipated non-conference matchups this September at Ohio Stadium. The Ducks will have a new starting quarterback this fall, but return most of the rest of the offense from their 2020 Pac-12 championship team. Will that be enough to put up big numbers against a largely unproven back seven for Ohio State?Oregonian beat writer James Crepea joins host Tom Orr to break down the Ducks' crazy 2020 season, and what this year's Oregon team could look like on offense. It's the first of a two-part series previewing the 2021 Oregon Ducks football team. That series will conclude tomorrow with a look at the Oregon defense.
Minnesota football seemed like it was headed for big things after an 11-win season in 2019, but the Gophers took a big step back in 2020. How much of that was the weird year, and how much is a legitimate cause for concern?Andy Greder of the St. Paul Pioneer Press and TwinCities.com joins host Tom Orr to discuss that, and what it could mean for the 2021 Gophers. Tanner Morgan returns for his fourth season as starting quarterback, and Mo Ibrahim will carry a big part of the load again at running back. Can the nation's most experienced offensive line make up for the loss of Rashod Bateman in the passing game? And will the Gophers have enough talent in their defensive back seven to hold Ohio State's passing game in check? All that, plus some dining recommendations for fans traveling to the game.

If you're tired of math-averse college football coaches punting on 4th-and-1 at midfield, Championship Analytics is the company for you. They run the numbers for college football programs and provide coaches with a new book every week telling them when to punt, kick a field goal, or go for it on fourth down. They're also turning conventional wisdom on its head when it comes to when teams should go for two after a touchdown. Rob Ash is the director of coaching development at Championship Analytics. He joins host Tom Orr to explain why a lot of things your favorite team's coach is doing might be wrong. Is it more important to be aggressive on fourth down when you're a favorite or an underdog? Should Ohio State push things more against teams like Akron or Oregon? Did Ryan Day make the right call in one crucial recent moment in the College Football Playoffs? And what do the numbers say about college football's most aggressive new coach, Presbyterian's Kevin Kelley?
Ohio State is about to host its first major recruiting weekend in more than a year. Most of the Buckeyes' current 2022 commits are expected to be in Columbus, along with a number of the program's top targets for 2022 and beyond. Buckeye Scoop recruiting analyst Alex Gleitman joins host Tom Orr to preview the weekend and answer some big questions. Which visitor is most likely to commit to OSU next? Which player would be the biggest "get" for the Buckeyes? Which current recruit might need to be won over again in person? And which of this weekend's visitors is going to end up ranked much higher than his current rating?
Recruiting is always the craziest and most unpredictable part of college football, but there has never been a month of recruiting like June 2021 will be. For the first time in more than a year, the NCAA is allowing players to visit campuses across the country, and programs in every conference will be welcoming in as many official visitors in one month as they normally have in an entire year. How are programs juggling all of those visits, how much will happen this month, and an inside look at one of college football's biggest and best recruiting operations: the Ohio State Buckeyes.Buckeye Scoop beat writer Tony Gerdeman joins host Tom Orr to discuss that and more.
If you feel like pretty much every Wisconsin team for the past decade or so has been pretty similar, you're not wrong. Sometimes the Badgers are a little better, sometimes they're a little worse, but they're one of college football's most consistent programs. The 2021 Wisconsin football team looks like it may be one of the better versions of those Badger teams. With a veteran offensive line, solid running back, talented wide receiver corps, and proven defense, there's reason to think this could be the year they finally break through and win the conference for the first time since 2012. The big questions are at quarterback, where talented but young Graham Mertz has to take the next step in his development, and a brutal early-season schedule. Colten Bartholomew, the Wisconsin football beat writer for Madison.com and the host of The Red Zone podcast joins host Tom Orr to preview the 2021 Wisconsin football team.

The top-ranked player in the class of 2021 still hasn't signed with a college program. Buckeye Scoop's ultimate insider NevadaBuck just broke the story about the details of JT Tuimoloau's upcoming visit to Ohio State. When will he be in Columbus, who's coming with him, how long will he be in town, and where is he headed after that?Nevada has all the insider details you've come to expect. Plus, a look at what freshman phenom Jack Sawyer has done to impress the coaching staff since the spring game, the young cornerback who could be on the verge of stardom, the Ohio State position group that could be the very best in the nation, and the player on the team who has done the most to completely remake his physique since first arriving on campus.
For the first time, Ohio's legislature now has a bill concerning the name, imagine, and likeness rights of student-athletes to consider. State Sen. Niraj Antani introduced the bill Monday, and also held a press conference with Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith to discuss it, and its possible impact on the Buckeyes and every other college sports team in the state.Hear directly from both Antani and Smith on the bill itself, its goals, and what it could mean for the future of Ohio State athletics.
College football is all about finding new players to step up or improve their games to fill the holes that every team has each offseason. Buckeye Scoop beat writer Tony Gerdeman joins host Tom Orr to discuss five players in their second or third year who could take another big step to being crucial pieces of the 2021 Buckeyes. Some have already started, some might not even win a starting job this fall, but a good season for each of them would go a long way toward making 2021 another championship season for the Buckeyes.

The wildest month in the history of college football recruiting will kick off in less than two weeks. Ryan Day and Ohio State are already off to a great start for the 2022 class, and about to welcome in some of the top players in the entire nation for visits. How solid are Ohio State's current commitments from players like Quinn Ewers and Jyaire Brown? And how likely is it that they'll be able to add 5-star targets like OT Zach Rice and DE Omari Abor to the class? Buckeye Scoop recruiting analyst Alex Gleitman joins host Tom Orr to answer those questions and provide an update on where the Buckeyes are trending right now with some of their top remaining targets.
Some of the top players in Ohio State's 2022 class are from the south, and the Buckeyes are hoping to add some more talent from that region soon. Buckeye Scoop's Marc Givler is traveling all over the area on his Buckeye Scoop Southern Swing, presented by Steamboat Dry Goods. He joins host Tom Orr to discuss some of the players he's seen already, including current commits Benji Gosnell, Jaheim Singletary, and Ryan Turner, and top targets including 4-star defensive end Marvin Jones, Jr., 5-star wide receiver Brandon Inniss, top-100 defensive end Kenyatta Jackson, and more. Please visit SteamboatDryGoods.com and use promo code roadtrip for 20 percent off your purchase.
The top player in the class of 2021 is also one of the only players in the nation who hasn't yet signed with a college football program. Ohio State is considered the front-runner to land standout defensive lineman JT Tuimoloau, and the Buckeyes got a piece of encouraging news about their pursuit earlier this week. Buckeye Scoop recruiting analyst Bill Greene joins host Tom Orr to discuss the latest development in the chase for Tuimoloau, as well as some of the top prospects for 2022. Does a recent coaching change improve the Buckeyes' chances of flipping a 5-star cornerback for 2022? And which 5-star defensive end may now be trending away from Oklahoma and toward Ohio State?
Spring practice is over and the start of fall camp is still close to three months away. But there is still a lot going on inside the Woody Hayes Athletic Center and football facilities like it all across the country.Teams aren't allowed to practice, and coaches are extremely limited in what they can even do this time of year. So what's actually happening inside the walls of the WHAC right now, and why does it matter so much for this fall's team?Buckeye Scoop's Kirk Barton, a former captain and all-American, joins host Tom Orr to discuss that and more. What are players allowed to do right now, and what's against the rules? What kinds of workouts are different position groups doing? And is it true that "you can't win a national championship in the summer, but you can lose one"?

What made him commit to the Buckeyes? Is his recruitment closed or will he take visits elsewhere? What position will he play in Columbus? Find out the answers to those questions and more in this week's edition of Around The Oval, presented by Todd Pennington with Revolution Mortgage. For the second time in a week, Ohio State just beat out some of the nation's top programs for a defensive back recruit from Florida. Buckeye Scoop's Bill Greene joins host Tom Orr to share a scouting report on new commit Ryan Turner, as well as which former 5-star corner recruit a coach compared him to. Plus, how 5-star commit Jaheim Singletary impressed some of Bill's sources, who are generally not easy to impress. And why are the Buckeyes having so much success in Florida? They've already pulled three strong prospects out of the state for 2022, and are in the running for a number of other players. How is that happening?
Right now there are hundreds of college football and basketball players in the NCAA Transfer Portal, but most people have no idea what that actually means. Zaid Hamdan just spent three years as a defensive lineman for the Buckeyes before entering the portal and committing to FCS powerhouse James Madison. But what do you have to do to enter the portal? And then what happens next? Hamdan walks you through the whole process, and also shares the biggest things he learned from OSU defensive line coach Larry Johnson, his most memorable moment as a Buckeye, and more.
The Transfer Portal has brought something close to free agency to the sports of college football and college basketball. In just the last week, the Buckeyes lost one of last year's starters to a team they could face in the College Football Playoff, and could be on the verge of adding a starter to their defense. Buckeye Scoop beat reporter Tony Gerdeman joins host Tom Orr to discuss the impact the transfer market has had on Ohio State and the sport of college football on the whole.Which teams benefit most from the portal? The blue bloods who just need one piece to patch over a hole, like when OSU added Jonah Jackson, Justin Fields, or Trey Sermon? Or the mid-level teams who can add players who might not have considered them coming out of high school, but who now just want to get on the field?
Ohio State added another commit to its 2022 class over the weekend, from a player many fans may not know much about.Buckeye Scoop's Marc Givler joins host Tom Orr to break down the commitment of Kye Stokes, a 3-star safety from Florida. Where does he project to play in the Ohio State defense? And what does his commitment mean for the rest of the 2022 class? Plus, Marc just teamed up with Bill Greene for the most ambitious project in the history of Buckeye Scoop, the Scoop 100. Marc explains how they put their new national rankings of 2022 prospects together, which player they may be far higher on than other services, which player could be about to take a big jump up the rankings, and where he and Bill had their biggest disagreements.
Ryan Day isn't the only football coach on Ohio State's campus with a championship program. James Grega coaches the club football team, which won the 2019 National Club Football Association national title. He joins host Tom Orr to discuss the program, some memorable moments from that championship season, and having to more or less start from scratch this year after missing an entire season due to COVID.
Ohio State is in the middle of an incredible run of quarterback talent. From Dwayne Haskins and Justin Fields to CJ Stroud, Jack Miller, and Kyle McCord, and now Quinn Ewers. Ewers is the top-ranked player in the class of 2022 regardless of position and is next in the line of incredible talent assembled by Ryan Day. Greg Powers is a Senior Recruiting Analyst for Dave Campbell's Texas Football, and the president of Next Level Athlete. He has scouted Ewers in person for several years and just watched him win the Elite 11 Dallas regional. He joins host Tom Orr and Buckeye Scoop recruiting analyst Bill Greene to discuss what makes Ewers such an exciting prospect, and what he will bring to the Buckeyes. How would Greg compare him to other top quarterbacks he has scouted in the past, like Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields?OSU also has a commitment from 5-star WR Caleb Burton, who comes from the same high school as Garrett Wilson. How does he compare to other receivers from Texas like Garrett Wilson and Jaxon Smith-Njigba?
If you're an Ohio State fan who has spent any meaningful amount of time on Buckeye message boards, you've undoubtedly heard of NevadaBuck and his wise men. They've worked together to break some of the biggest stories of the last 30 years, and are still producing incredible insights into the OSU program today. But who are these mysterious insiders? Nevada joins host Tom Orr to share the history of his Wiseman before Thursday's Four Wisemen takeover on the Ask The Insiders board at Buckeye Scoop.com. Plus, with the College Football Playoff considering expanding the field to 6, 8, 10, 12, or even 16 teams, what kind of impact would a seismic shift in the college football postseason have on the sport on the whole and the Buckeyes in particular?
The state of Florida has been a crucial recruiting ground for Ohio State over the years. Recently, star players like Shaun Wade, Damon Arnette, and Joey and Nick Bosa have headed to Columbus and been a big part of championship teams. So who is the next star from the Sunshine State who will head north to play for the Buckeyes? Dominique Smith is Buckeye Scoop's man on the ground in Florida. He joins host Tom Orr to run through several names for OSU fans to know, including some 5-star talented on the defensive side of the ball.

Will Ohio State land Henry To'o To'o per his latest nugget? How did he get started in the "insider" business? Who are the "Four Wisemen of Ohio State football" and what will they be doing on Thursday? Ohio State hasn't lost many recruits over the past few years, but the decommitment of Dasan McCullough is unquestionably a big blow to the Buckeyes. How will OSU replace the talented linebacker in their 2022 class? Buckeye Scoop's Marc Givler joins host Tom Orr to discuss that and more. Why it might not be as simple as sliding top-100 linebacker Shawn Murphy into the class instead, and a look ahead at one of the most-anticipated days in Buckeye Scoop's history later this week.
The Ohio State running back room is pretty crowded with talented players, but true freshman TreVeyon Henderson still made a big impression on the Buckeyes' coaching staff this spring. Can the five-star prospect turn that early momentum into a starting role this fall? Buckeye Scoop beat reporter Tony Gerdeman joins host Tom Orr to discuss that and more. When does Ryan Day want to have a starting quarterback named? How much will the skill set of that starting QB impact what they do on offense this fall? Plus, why both Day and defensive coordinator Kerry Coombs are feeling optimistic about the defensive backfield. Which young players made an impression this spring, and who might work their way into the rotation later this summer?
Ohio State's offense was good enough to win the national championship in 2020. The defense... not so much. So what's going to change for the Buckeyes in 2021 to get their title hopes back on track?Buckeye Scoop's Xs and Os guru Ross Fulton joins host Tom Orr to break down his takeaways from the spring game, and what he thinks it will mean for the Ohio State defense this fall. What change did the 2020 defense make that this year's team might reverse? How can a simple switch of two players move the Buckeyes from being able to defense a run-heavy team like Wisconsin to a spread passing team?
The 2019-2020 men's basketball season ended with a thud for Chris Holtmann's Ohio State program, but the Buckeyes have been busy rebuilding their roster and are now set to make another run at a title next fall. Two in-conference transfers will fill much-needed holes, and the return of big man Kyle Young answers another huge question. Buckeye Scoop's Mick Walker joins host Tom Orr to run through the players who have come and gone since the team's surprising loss to Oral Roberts, and what represents a realistic expectation for the coming season.
The 2021 Ohio State spring game gave Buckeye fans their first look at this year's team. But several players who could play crucial roles this fall weren't out on the field. Buckeye Scoop beat reporter Tony Gerdeman joins host Tom Orr to look at some of those players, and what fans can expect from them when the season kicks off in September.
Since Ryan Day arrived in Columbus before the 2017 season, the Buckeyes have never had a major issue scoring points on offense. The only thing standing between them and championship seasons has been an inconsistent defense. The 2020 team struggled to stop opposing passing attacks, and enters the 2021 season still looking for answers at a number of positions around the field. So what did we learn about the Buckeye linebackers and defensive backfield this spring? Buckeye Scoop's Bill Greene joins host Tom Orr to answer those questions and more. Just how good can freshman phenom Jack Sawyer be? Are the Buckeyes likely to add a top linebacker in the transfer portal? And where do things stand in the race for the starting quarterback job?
