The last time I spoke with Colby Blaine, was back in 2020, and we were able to hear about what he was building over at College of Idaho for their men's basketball program. Since that time SO MUCH has happened, which is exactly why I needed to circle back with the man to  hear the updates.  The Yotes basketball program won the national championship in 2023 and 2025 with some big runs into the Elite 8 and the Fab 4 of the NAIA National Tournament in the past few years. He's also finished with an NABC NAIA Coach of the Year award in 2023 and 2025.  According to Wikipedia "The NABC Coach of the Year is an award given annually by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) to recognize the top head coach in men's college basketball across the four largest college athletic associations in the United States."  To say Coach Blaine has achieved success at this program, would be a massive understatement. And it's due in large part to his amazing leadership qualities! As a coach, I have the opportunity to see just how powerful team basketball can truly be when playing the game of basketball. That said, I never realized what actually happened when he left college. How he kept pushing through adversity. Jacob Hobson has quite the story on how he became a Bullpen Catcher for the Kansas City Royals. And that's why I love doing this podcast, as you have an opportunity to find out the 'story behind the story' if you will.  From a call from his dad to a staff member at Cal State Fullerton, to now helping at the Arizona facility for the Royals as he helps the pitchers who are rehabbing and getting back to playing shape, Jacob has quite the journey as a bullpen catcher.  We'll get to learn about what that position even is. Dalton Lins knows what it's like to compete at a high level. Growing up in Hawaii, Dalton fell in love with the game of football through his father. He competed at a very high level in his high school days and ended up as a preferred walk-on at Boise State, where his college days began.  The cool part about this story, is how Dalton kept showing up!! Through his career, he was typically a backup Center on the O-Line, but he kept showing up and earned an opportunity to play special teams and travel with the team. A great, valuable lesson to be learned here for the younger generation, on the importance of continuing to show up!!  In our conversation, we'll discuss Dalton's career and the memories he had at Boise State. We'll chat about stadiums he played in, and some of the leaders he was around. We'll also talk about the journey OUT of football when the playing days were over.  The transition from playing to the ‘real world' is not always an easy one. We'll chat about his ability to find a job that allowed him to utilize his skills he acquired in his sports career, into his professional career in sales.  Also, a major piece to this conversation also revolves around Dalton's fitness journey too. Since completing his football career, he's now focused on his health and has completely transformed his mind, body, and spirit! I met Jake through my sports media platforms when he was coaching high school football here locally in Idaho. Today, through this interview, I learn about his story on how he got to where he's at and what helped shape him in his journey. Through our conversation we'll learn about his business at In The Trenches Academy and what inspired this business plan.  This is an incredibly insightful interview. After competing at a high level in Softball for UCLA in the early 2000s, Tara Henry took some time away from the sport before she ended up overseas to finish a Master's Program. After that time, she was re-introduced to softball and it created an entirely new surge in her career. Tara is now the GM of Softball America as well as the Head Coach for the Great Britain National Team.  The goal for Softball America is to provide additional coverage to the sport through various channels. Gabe Tanner is a current student-athlete for Columbia High School out of Nampa, ID. He came to Idaho from Chicago when he was younger, and he has major aspirations to compete in athletics at the next level. Today we get to hear what it's like for him to compete as a dual sport athlete in both baseball and football and the lessons he's learned along the way. Colorado State Women's basketball is where Annie Brady calls home. Where she once played, she's now on the coaching staff. In her new position, she's bringing an incredible skillset and expertise to the mix. Today I sit down with Annie as we chat about her sports background. What she learned playing junior college (JUCO) volleyball and basketball at Salt Lake Community College, and then what she learned heading to Colorado State. We also learn about her experience serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and what she was able to take with her through the other parts of her life. When you understand that there's a bigger plan in place for you, it changes the way in which you go about things and handle some of the difficult situations in life. Man oh man, does Mike Lacey have some fun stories about his playing days at BYU!  Lacey was a football player at Brigham Young University who played in some very meaningful games with some amazing people. Jordan Trejo was surrounded by lacrosse superstars in her family from the time she was born. She fell in love with the sport and competed in lacrosse at a very young age.  In high school, she had aspirations to play at the next level and had different opportunities prior to finding a home at BYU in Provo, Utah. Now she is the Head Coach at Boise State for their Women's Lacrosse club!  We'll chat about her journey and the ups and downs of her own recruiting cycle when she was in high school. If you know wrestling in the high school space, you know of Hudson Rogers. The man just keeps on winning! Having been here in Idaho, and being connected with my Alma Mater (Meridian High School), I kept hearing his name year after year.. It seemed as if he just kept winning more and more tournaments in the sport of wrestling.  Now we have a chance to hear from him on the podcast!  Hudson's been wrestling since he was three years old, and he's now committed to Utah Valley University, where he expects to make an immediate impact upon arriving.  What you'll learn about wrestlers on this show, is just how dedicated they are to their craft. At 6'11 and athletic, it's no surprise that basketball was the sport of choice for Greg Kite. Major shoutout to Cash Burgess!! This guy is a standup human being who returned my lost wallet in a Boise parking lot and returned it to my home! For the last few years I've had the honor of watching Avery Howell as she took the girls basketball scene by storm as a leader for her Boise High School squad! The growth she had over the past few years was insane and to see how she handled the pressure when the spotlight was on her, was incredible.  Her work ethic and her passion are large reasons why she found herself with the honors of being a McDonald's All-American in 2024 after her senior year at Boise, and why she will be playing basketball at USC next season!  Avery is just one of two girls basketball players from Idaho to be named a McDonald's All-American, so you may consider taking notes on this one because she knows what it requires to get to that next level.  From waking up early for YEARS and putting in the work. From the diamond to the business world, Brandon Buck knows a thing or two about what it takes to be a leader and a motivator in life.
