In The New & True Family of God, we explore how Jesus redefined family through faith and obedience. Misunderstood by His own family, Jesus modeled grace, love, and unwavering faithfulness. He called us into a new family, bound by obedience to God's will, not bloodlines. While earthly families may misunderstand our faith, we respond with trust in God, forgiveness, and peace. Through Jesus' perfect obedience, even to the cross, we are adopted as children of God, united into His family. Blaze Church is called to be the family our community needs, reflecting God's love through unity, grace, and obedience.

In today's show, we talk about the different processes by which we make decisions. We make decisions every day, and sometimes they can be life-changing. Our culture tells us one way, but as followers of Jesus, how do we discern God's will with the choices that come our way? We break down three different ways people make decisions: The way of Logic, The ignition way, and The way of discernment. We share some real-life stories where we learned the hard way and explore the lessons from those experiences. We dive into practical ways to help you navigate the discerning process. We cover topics such as how our egos or false self can affect our decision-making abilities and how some may have misconceptions about suffering related to God's will for our lives. Today, we ask a couple of essential questions that can help you uncover some patterns that may make you stuck; What do I believe about God, and Does he want the best for me and my family? We also discuss balancing our feelings while not letting our emotions rule our decisions. We have been working thoughtfully to develop a process to help our own family make big decisions and discern God's will for our lives. We genuinely hope these nine steps bless and assist you as you walk through your moments of discernment that arise. This process takes time, and we hope to encourage you to practice these steps slowly. The process: Focusing your attention on GodConsider what it means to be totally attached to God's agenda and willLay your choice before God and examine the matter thoroughly.Share your desires with God. More Than a Song - Discovering the Truth of Scripture Hidden in Today's Popular Christian Music
It may seem hopeless. Your life is shattered into a million pieces. You are broken and empty. God is calling you to Himself. He is the master artist who can take your broken pieces and assemble them like a stained glass masterpiece. Amanda Nolan sings about that in her song "Broken Pieces." Let's explore a "broken pieces" story in the Old Testament. In this episode, I discuss the following: Taking a B.I.T.E. out of Scripture – this week's Bible Interaction Tool Exercises include: Read in context Listen to an audio version of the text Repetition Consult an outside resource Start with God Follow the cross-references Remember, the characters described in the Bible were REAL The free one-page PDF Episode Guide to guide your study - Episode 461 Download A valuable resource to study Ruth - Teaching Ruth and Esther by Christopher Ash - Amazon paid link Reading Old Testament narratives correctly - Bible Project Video A word study on loyal love (translated kindness in Ruth) - Bible Project Video When reading Old Testament narratives, the line is not from Old Testament hero to me, it is from Old Testament to Christ, then to me in Christ Reading the book of Ruth as a foreshadowing of the gospel Five threads to examine as you read: Names of people Places Bethlehem Moab - Numbers 22-25; Deuteronomy 23:3-6 The verb to "turn" or "return" Chesed - loyal love, translated as "kindness" in Ruth Ruth 1:8 Ruth 2:20 Ruth 3:10 Emptiness to fullness The costly and sometimes painful journey to return to Christ Even as we see the broken pieces of Naomi's life, we see that it was God who caused her to return to the place of promise and hope. More Than a Song - Discovering the Truth of Scripture Hidden in Today's Popular Christian Music
In his song "Good Lord," David Leonard sings about looking back to see all that God has done, which provides the foundation for his declaration about the goodness of God. This is a celebrated practice throughout Scripture. This week we soak in a Psalm of Remembrance and learn the value of remembering and rehearsing the goodness of God. In this episode, I discuss the following: Taking a B.I.T.E. out of Scripture – this week's Bible Interaction Tool Exercises include: Read in context Listen to an audio version of the text Read aloud Repetition Make a list Start with God Follow the cross-references Looking for the songwriter's purpose - Psalm 78:1-4 The types of Psalms found in Scripture Psalm 78 as a didactic psalm - intended to instruct Reasons to teach our children/others the truths of Scripture - Psalm 78:5-8 Following the cross-references to the historical narrative summarized in Psalm 78 Three times the psalmist highlights the people testing God - Psalm 78:18, Psalm 78:41, Psalm 78:56) How when we test God in our hearts, it often comes from a false narrative The root of the testing was unbelief and a lack of trust in His saving power - Psalm 78:21-22 Another reason the people tested God -- they did not remember His power or the day when He redeemed them - Psalm 78:40-42 A warning to remind us that remembering what God has done is not enough - Psalm 78:35-37 Why did they test God? The prophet Elijah - come follow me Podcast for kids. Following the curriculum from the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. This week we learn The Holy Ghost speaks to me in a still, small voice. When the Lord asks me to sacrifice, I can obey in faith. I can choose to follow Jesus Christ.
Join us this week as we discuss Elijah the Prophet and his amazing faith, confidence, and ability to command the heavens! From Come Follow Me:The house of Israel was in disarray. The unity and prosperity achieved under David and Solomon were long past, and the nation's covenant relationship with the Lord was, for many people, a distant memory. The Kingdom of Israel had divided, with ten tribes forming the Northern Kingdom of Israel and two tribes forming the Southern Kingdom of Judah. Both kingdoms were unstable spiritually, led by kings who violated their covenants with the Lord and influenced others to do likewise (see 1 Kings 11–16). But the apostasy was especially severe in the Northern Kingdom, where King Ahab encouraged Israel to worship the false god Baal.It was in this setting that the prophet Elijah was called to preach. The account of his ministry makes clear that personal faith in the Lord can thrive among the righteous even in a wicked environment. Sometimes the Lord responds to such faith with impressive, public miracles, like fire falling from heaven. But He also works quiet, private miracles, like meeting the personal needs of a faithful widow and her son. And most often His miracles are so individual that they are known only to you—for example, when the Lord reveals Himself and His will through “a still small voice” (1 Kings 19:12).#Elijah #oldtestament #biblestudy #lds #ldspodcast #christinapodcast #yallkeeponstriving #prophetsSupport the show

He has taught in the history department of three universities and has been part of award-winning history publications. He received his BS in psychology with a Hebrew minor from BYU, his MA in Ancient Near Eastern studies from BYU, and his PhD from UCLA in Egyptology. He and his wife, Julianne, are the parents of six children. In his latest book, God Will Prevail: Ancient Covenants, Modern Blessings, and the Gathering of Israel, he encourages readers to take hold of God's promise to gather His covenant people by recognizing the connection between covenant making and the eternal and transformative love of the Savior. Highlights 5:20 Found that most of his students didn't really understand the covenant; even the teachers didn't understand it as well as they probably should 9:10 Foundation of what the covenant is: the covenant that has existed since the foundation of the world, was established with Adam and Eve, and needs to be re-established periodically THE new and everlasting covenant (vs. "a" new and everlasting covenant) The Abrahamic covenant The baptismal covenant The marriage covenant 13:30 Teaching 8-year-olds prior to baptism about the covenant they are making 15:00 Its primary purpose is establishing a closer, higher relationship with God; we can have that as we change our nature and become more like him 18:20 "Leveling up" 20:15 Blessings: you become a holier person and God will give instructions so you know how to act, and the Holy Ghost is key to that 22:45 Making covenants brings us to neutral ground, and keeping or not keeping the commandments leads to consequences in the form of blessings or curses Negative consequences are to humble us (covenant corruption cycle) Love and mercy are always available to those in the covenant; He will always give us another chance: this is the gathering of Israel There is a long history in the scriptures of the Israelites losing their blessings and consistently getting them back 31:50 Sacrament restriction: the sacrament is a covenant renewal ceremony, so the primary reason to restrict it is to keep people from renewing the covenant when they aren't ready 35:00 For everyone who sins, there is a balance in the struggle Am I really seeking to do this? We are bound together with God Follow the Spirit in determining when someone is ready to take the sacrament after a period of restriction The goal of leaders should be the same as God: to get people back into the covenant 42:00 Divorce and families in the eternities: We really don't know how sealings will work after this life, but recognize that if we are exalted we will be happy with the results 43:45 There is only one thing we can completely control: our relationship with God; once you are in this covenant, God will not leave you 45:35 Children and sealings to parents: we need to look at the larger picture and recognize the sealing is into the house of Israel 49:30 The doctrine of geography about families being together forever; the empty chairs spectre: odds are, you don't have to worry so much; there is always hope 55:00 Grace in covenants: grace is available to everyone, but it only has its full effects on someone who chooses to form a full relationship with God Exalting grace is available to those who have fully bound themselves to Christ; if you allow that relationship, eventually it will change you The atoning power of Christ's sacrifice cannot enter in if we are not willing to submit ourselves to it 59:35 A leader is supposed to represent Christ and you do that by binding yourself to Him, then forgetting yourself and serving others Links God Will Prevail: Ancient Covenants, Modern Blessings, and the Gathering of Israel outofthedust.
