The first type of soil that Jesus describes is soil that has been hardened by the treading of the world. The Sower throws seed on this heart soil, and it is instantly snatched away by Satan and never allowed to grow. Suffering of the world, sin in ourselves and from others, and the constantly treading of others has a hardening effect on our hearts. This ground needs love, care and attention to be softened, tilled and receptive to the new growth of the Kingdom of God.

Pharoah's heart was hardened by God so the He could perform the signs and wonders of the 10 Plagues on the Egyptians.  On the surface, this seems unfair.  Did God take away Pharaoh's free will so that he would be defiant, allowing God to visit more suffering on the Egyptians?  This can't be true, because we know that God is always and completely right and just.  So what's the answer? The truth is that God did not initiate Pharaoh's hardened heart. Welcome to The Daily, where we study the Bible verse by verse, chapter by chapter, every day. And here is a shout-out today to Ben Gandy from Hugo, MN. Ben, thank you for being part of Project23. Because of your faithfulness, we get to plant the Word of God in more lives every day. This one's for you. Today, we're looking at Mark 4:1-9: Again he began to teach beside the sea. And a very large crowd gathered about him, so that he got into a boat and sat in it on the sea, and the whole crowd was beside the sea on the land. And he was teaching them many things in parables, and in his teaching he said to them: “Listen! Behold, a sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seed fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured it. Other seed fell on rocky ground, where it did not have much soil, and immediately it sprang up, since it had no depth of soil. And when the sun rose, it was scorched, and since it had no root, it withered away. Other seed fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it, and it yielded no grain. And other seeds fell into good soil and produced grain, growing up and increasing and yielding thirtyfold and sixtyfold and a hundredfold.” And he said, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”— Mark 4:1-9 Jesus sits in a boat, teaching a crowd so large He has to back away from shore to be seen and heard. He launches into a story—a parable—that has echoed across history: A sower went out to sow. Some seeds land on the path. Some seeds hit the rocky ground. Some seeds fall among thorns. Some seeds land on good soil—and multiply. It's simple imagery, but Jesus isn't giving a farming lesson. He's giving a heart lesson. And this isn't a story merely about the Sower—or even the Seed. It's a story about the soil. Jesus is spading the soil of the heart of all mankind, asking: What kind of soil is your heart? Is it hard and unreceptive, like the path? Shallow and emotionally reactive, like the rocky ground? Distracted and overgrown with worry, like the thorns? Or soft and ready—like the good soil that produces lasting fruit? You see, the Seed is always good. The Word of God never fails. But the condition of the heart determines the harvest. And here's the good news of this parable: the soil of your heart doesn't have to be fixed in the hardened state. It can be plowed. Broken up. Prepared again. So if your heart's been hardened by disappointment… Or shallow from busyness… Or choked by distraction… Let Jesus work your soil. Let his pick axe, plow, and grader work on your heart. Soften it to him and let him produce results in and through you. Today—don't just hear the Word. Listen to it by changing your heart to him. #HeartCheck, #GoodSoil, #ParableOfTheSower ASK THIS: Which type of soil best describes your heart right now? What has hardened, distracted, or shallowly rooted your spiritual growth? Are you actively allowing God to break up and prepare your heart? What fruit have you seen when you've responded with a soft heart? DO THIS: Ask God to reveal one area of your heart that needs softening—and surrender it to him today. PRAY THIS: Father, break up the hard places in my heart and prepare me to receive your Word. Help me listen with surrender and grow lasting fruit through your Spirit. Amen. Welcome to The Daily, where we study the Bible verse by verse, chapter by chapter, every single day. And a big shout-out today to Michael Forte from Astoria, OR. Today, we're looking at Mark 3:28-30: “Truly, I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the children of man, and whatever blasphemies they utter, but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin”—for they were saying, “He has an unclean spirit.” — Mark 3:28-30 This text contains one of the most sobering statements Jesus ever made. He begins with an incredible promise: “All sins will be forgiven… even blasphemies.” There's real hope in that. No sin is too big for God to redeem. No past is too messy. But it's followed by a serious warning: “Whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness.” So, what is this unforgivable sin? Understanding the context is key. The religious leaders were witnessing Jesus perform undeniable works of God—and claiming they came from Satan. They weren't confused. They were willfully rejecting the truth. They were crediting the Spirit's power to the enemy himself. That's not simple disbelief—it's deliberate rejection. Persistent hardness. A refusal to acknowledge the Spirit's witness about Jesus. This warning isn't for the tender believer who fears they've lost salvation. It's a line drawn for those whose hearts have completely closed themselves off to the truth—after seeing it clearly. The unforgivable sin isn't a moment of doubt—it's a life of denial. It's not a stumble—it's a hardened stand. So if you're worried you've committed the unforgivable sin—you haven't. That concern is evidence the Spirit is still working on your heart. But this is a warning worth heeding. We need to stay soft to the Spirit at all times. When He convicts—listen. When He draws—respond. Because the longer we resist, the easier it is to grow calloused. We all have the tendency to slide into judgmentalism and legalism—attitudes that resist the Spirit and reject the grace of the Father and the Son. So listen when the Spirit calls today. Don't harden your heart. Keep saying "yes" to the voice of God. ASK THIS: When has conviction prompted you to respond or resist? What attitudes or beliefs tend to harden your heart against the Spirit? How do you recognize the Spirit's gentle voice in your daily life? In what areas do you need to say yes to the Spirit's prompting? DO THIS: When the Spirit convicts you today, repent immediately to keep your heart soft. PRAY THIS: Father, thank you for forgiving every sin through Jesus. Keep my heart soft to the Spirit and help me say yes when he convicts me. Amen. PLAY THIS: Softly and Tenderly.

I am very excited about it because it is about the heart!All that I am learning about and experiencing relates to my current direction in life, which is an adventure in becoming a Certified Life Coach centered on the heart. I have never considered being a Life Coach before, yet a few months ago, I got a strong impression that this is what I need to do, so here I am, taking another step in my faith journey.  Since starting this program, I've learned so much about heart connections, not only to my heart but also to others. This knowledge helps me recognize how to be more in tune with my feelings and intuition.In Baptist De Pape's book "The Power of the Heart," I read:"Our very first heartbeat begins spontaneously."…”The beating starts the moment that specialized heart cells form and multiply in the fetus. The cells beat even before the whole heart has formed. And they beat in unison." Knowing that the heart is the first organ to develop before any other parts or organs of the body is exciting. This tiny vital organ has a rhythmic beat that continues to grow, becoming a big part of our bodies' development.Neal Donald Walsch said:  "The beat of your heart is the energy of life itself.”…"The secret of the human heart is that it contains not only your identity but God's, wrapped up in one."  Many scriptures refer to a heart.One of them comes from the Bible in the book of Mathew 5:8Jesus said: "Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God." -  Matthew 5:8What does it mean to Have a Pure Heart? Have you ever wondered about having a pure heart, dear listener? Here is an answer for me and perhaps for you: A pure heart is charity. It means I am forgiving, patient, and not critical or judgmental of others. It means I look at others with compassion and grace, the way Jesus looks at me. When I know I am in that space, of having a pure heart, I am willing to connect and understand others.   Robin Johnson, my mentor and coaching instructor, wrote a book titled "The Heart of the Gospel," which beautifully describes the five states of the heart. Here are the descriptions of the five hearts:A Hardened Heart - is a heart of anger, hate, malice, pride, animosity, judgment, absence of love, and hurting others.A Broken Heart - A heart of grief, sadness, wounded, anguished, depressed, lonely, heavy and in pain.A Disconnected Heart - A heart of numbness, fear, emotionlessness, pain avoidance, apathy, and no passion for life.A Faint Heart - is weary from life's challenges, depleted, disheartened, hopeless, exhausted. A Pure Heart -  is the Heart of Christ, a heart in a state of oneness: One with self, God, and humanity. It is all the evidence required to prove what is still unseen.Substance - hypostasis● It can refer to a foundation, ground, or base - something that stands underneath andprovides support● It can mean substance, essence, or actual being● It can convey the sense of confidence, assurance, or guarantee● Our faith NEEDS something to add substance to.1. It shows us the destination.Godly wisdom is like my GPS, or my map. It helps me plot the way there.Faith is the vehicle that takes me there.Love is the fuel in the faith vehicle!2. Hope sustained with the Word of faith will result in the miracleHebrews 6:13,18' When God made his promise to Abraham, he backed it all the way, putting his own reputationon the line. He said, “I promise that I'll bless you with everything I have—bless and bless andbless!” Abraham stuck it out and got everything that had been promised to him. When peoplemake promises, they guarantee them by appeal to some authority above them so that if there isany question that they'll make good on the promise, the authority will back them up. When Godwanted to guarantee his promises, he gave his word, a rock-solid guarantee—God can't breakhis word. And because his word cannot change, the promise is likewise unchangeable. We whohave run for our very lives to God have every reason to grab the promised hope with both handsand never let go. Guard against Unbelief● A willful rejection or hardening against divine truth● Persistent resistance rather than honest questioning● A heart condition that prevents faith from taking root●Examples: The Pharisees & Sadducees, The Home crowd of Nazareth, Zachariahc. Guard against a Hardened HeartThis represents a more severe spiritual condition than either doubt or unbelief. It's characterizedby a deliberate, progressive resistance to God's truth that eventually becomes a fixed state ofspiritual insensitivity.● It's progressive, occurring over time● It is having eyes that cannot see and ears that cannot hearExamples: Pharaoh, the Israelites in the Wilderness, the disciples of Christ!Mark 6:52 For they had not understood about the loaves; their hearts were hardened.Mark 8:17-18 Are your hearts hardened? A hard heart is difficult to surrender to God. The Scriptures call us to soften our hearts and make them available to be molded and shaped by God, much like a potter shapes clay. Though the process can be difficult, in the end we will come out refined and looking the way God created us to be.
