Bonnie McKee chats about co-writing hits with Katy Perry, including "California Gurls" and "Roar," as well as her own artist career that has resulted in successful singles such as "American Girl." PART ONE:Scott and Paul share a little preview of what's to come as they prepare to celebrate Songcraft's 10 anniversaryPART TWOOur in-depth conversation with Bonnie McKeeABOUT BONNIE McKEE:Bonnie McKee grew up as a classically trained singer and pianist, but began pursuing a pop music career while still a teen. In 2004 she released her debut album, Trouble, with Reprise Records, but soon switched her focus to working as a behind-the-scenes songwriter. She has written ten songs that have hit #1 in either the US or UK, and is best known for her work with Katy Perry, which began with the Diamond-certified and international chart-topping album, Teenage Daydream. Bonnie contributed to three songs on the album, all of which became chart-topping singles: “California Gurls,” “Teenage Dream,” and “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.).” When the deluxe Complete Confection version of the album was released, Bonnie landed two more chart-topping singles with “Part of Me” and “Wide Awake.” She went on to collaborate with Katy Perry on four songs on the follow-up album, Prism, including the Top 20 single “Birthday” and the #1 hit “Roar.” Other successful singles from the Bonnie McKee songbook include “Dynamite” for Taio Cruz, “Hold it Against Me” for Britney Spears, “C'Mon” for Kesha, and the UK chart toppers “How We Do (Party)” by Rita Ora and “I Don't Care” by Cheryl. Additionally, she's written songs for Cher, Christina Aguilera, Kelly Clarkson, Avril Lavigne, Bebe Rexha, Jason Derulo, Kygo, and Adam Lambert, among others. In 2013, Bonnie reemerged as an artist with the single “American Girl” on Epic Records. She recorded an entire album, but parted ways with the label and it was shelved. Enough tracks and demos leaked online over the years, however, that fans were clamoring for it. Now, more than ten years later, Bonnie has re-recorded the album. She combined the re-recorded tracks with the original release of “American Girl,” which has now been streamed 23 million times on Spotify. The end result is Hot City, an album more than a decade in the making.

She's one of the biggest stars in the world and a human highlight reel. The story behind Britney Spears' early career comes from her aspirations too large for her small town. Britney knew she wanted to perform and see the world after her early roles in off-broadway plays and The Mickey Mouse Club, which led to her solo career in music. Her debut album, “...Baby One More Time” became a #1 hit and a global phenomenon. From the debut of her second album to her fourth, Britney was met with iconic moments such as opening for NSYNC, dancing with a python at the VMAs, and collaborating with Madonna. In the later 2000s, Britney continued to captivate the music world with additional hits like “Womanizer” and “Hold It Against Me”. The pop star currently holds 5 albums at #1 along with many accolades. Since recently being liberated from her conservatorship, fans are excited to see what Britney has in store next. What happens when we let a couple of good friends into the Secret Underground Studio to let them watch as we make our weekly magic? Find out on this week's all-new, slightly naughty episode of the Swish Edition. But first, let us say that, without a doubt, when we titled this episode "Tranny Garden Party," we say that controversial term with the most love we have for our dear friends who make up the "T" in GLBT. There's been an ongoing debate on whether the word is derogatory or not, but when many of our transsexual friends use it, well, we think we can to. Plus, it's fun to say. And we say it a lot this week as we tell the tale of the impromptu tranny garden party that happen Saturday night on our block. We halt the talk twice for two songs we think you'll dig. Sam Tsui is a rising young singer who has appeared on Oprah, Ellen and was featured in a Time Magazine piece. His cover of Britney's "Hold It Against Me" is haunting and his original tune, "Don't Want An Ending," is just as good as anything you'll hear on your favorite Top 40 station. We love this kid and you should check out his music and his entertaining music and comedy videos. Of course we have the latest news from Sean Bugg's Metro Weekly, as well as... Steve visits a psychic Scott gets an iPhone 4...finally Dale's gearing up and sprucing up for the redhead appreciation party Jason has the weird news that made headlines this week We talk about all the celebs being invited to the military ball via YouTube Break down the Lady Gaga/Bette Midler fued Gaga's meat dress is headed to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame You can get fined for walking and texting in Philly Celebrities and athletes: Are they really sorry for the shit they say? It's The Black Spark, y'all. He's here and he's raw. He's become wicked infamous in the last few weeks and on this episode we talk to him about his work, his cast and all the attention they've been getting. The hot 20 year-old filmmaker is quickly taking the internet by storm with his unique series of dark, haunting short films that show off his sex life complete with masks, creative camera work, a perfect soundtrack, even more perfect young bodies, and absolutely no holds barred. It's so hot, we had to tape the interview naked. You don't want to miss this one.Dale, Scott & Jason also welcome back semi-regular Swisher, Steven J. Walker to the studio; that boy wasn't going to turn down an opportunity to try to weasel his way into Black Spark's next production. And guess what? The Black Spark liked Steve's voice. Could we have a new (porn) star on our hands? The guys also discuss, in no particular order: The SuperBowl, the new season of "RuPaul's Drag Race," the return of "Glee," Madonna's summer tour, "Facts of Life" actress Geri Jewell's coming out, SNL's controversial (or was it?!) estrogen/transexual skit, Ryan Yezak's new video (parody?!) of Britney's "Hold It Against Me," actor Andrew Garfield's butt, actor Henry Cavill's butt, Justin Bieber's death on "CSI," Barbara Bush (the young one) comes out for gays, and Brent Everett's night with gay and straight twins! All that, loads of gay hilarity, and the news from Sean Bugg at "Metro Weekly" magazine.Episode 119 is called, "The Tao of Black Spark," and it should be listened to while wearing a blue bandana tied across the bottom half of your face, while making out with a few friends, while rolling around in a tangled mess of Christmas lights. Listen here or get it on SwishEdition.com.
For January 20, the Swish Edition is throwing out a fun little episode featuring hot DC-based deejay, DJ Wess. Together with Dale, Scott and Jason, the guys discuss what's hot on the dance floor right now, including Britney's auto-tuned-to-hell "Hold It Against Me." They also talk about dancing amongst the lesbians, the big gay wins on the Golden Globes, the return of "Big Love," revisit Elton John's poor baby, chat about how you can now go visit your gay peeps in the hospital, celebrate DC keeping gay marriage, why Piers Morgan won't ever have Madonna on his new CNN show, and shout out to Swish fan Pablo in Cali. The boys also talk about NPH and Scott's mutual love of cock...er...roosters, Regis leaving his show after 22 years, tell you why you NEED to search for "Black Spark" on XTube, and they follow it all up with a friendly game of "Would You Rather," the dirty version! Like, "Would you rather piss a marble or poop a bowling ball?" Hmmmm?Highbrow entertainment, people. Of course, we have all the news from Metro Weekly magazine, to boot.Episode 117 is called "How Do You Pronounce Thedj" in honor of Wess' Facebook page. Gotta listen to find out what that means.
