My returning guest is an actress who played “Cousin Geri” on “The Facts of Life”, and is the author of a new book, “Geri's Jewels & Gems”. We discuss her book, her memories, how she's coped with life's difficulties, and much more.
Geri Jewell (The Facts of Life, Deadwood) stops by to discuss her work in television and to talk about her latest book, "Geri's Jewels & Gems".
Geri Jewell shares her trailblazing career as the first actress with cerebral palsy to break into mainstream television. From her early stand-up days at The Comedy Store to her iconic roles on The Facts of Life and HBO's Deadwood, Geri reflects on the challenges and triumphs of her journey. She opens up about her influential friendship with Carol Burnett, the unforgettable moment she was cast by Norman Lear, and the humorous yet impactful experiences that shaped her career. Her stories offer a mix of inspiration, humor, and behind-the-scenes insights into breaking barriers in Hollywood. Episode Highlights: Comedy Roots: Geri recounts her journey into stand-up comedy, starting at the famous Comedy Store in 1978. From her struggles with early performances to becoming the first comedian with cerebral palsy to appear on national television, Geri's resilience shines through. Her candid reflection on bombing her second week at the Comedy Store—and what she learned from it—provides both humor and wisdom. Carol Burnett's Influence: One of the highlights of Geri's youth was becoming pen pals with her idol, Carol Burnett. Carol's words of encouragement inspired Geri to pursue her dreams in show business, despite the societal expectations placed on her due to her disability. Geri shares heartwarming memories of Carol's support and how it fueled her ambition. Meeting Norman Lear: A pivotal moment in Geri's career came when Norman Lear spotted her performance and immediately cast her as Cousin Geri on The Facts of Life. Geri recounts the whirlwind experience of joining the cast, humanizing the snobby Blair Warner, and the impact of being one of the first actresses with a visible disability on a major TV show. Decapitating Big Bird: In one of the funniest moments of the episode, Geri shares a story about her guest appearance on Sesame Street, where an unexpected accident involving roller skates and Big Bird left children screaming! Geri's retelling of how she managed to “decapitate” Big Bird during a live taping is guaranteed to leave you laughing. From Stand-Up to Deadwood: Geri takes us through her transition from sitcoms to the gritty world of HBO's Deadwood. A chance encounter with David Milch in a pharmacy led to her role as Jewel, a character created specifically for her. Geri's reflections on working with Ian McShane and the unique challenges of performing in such a raw, historical setting are captivating. New Book – Geri's Gems and Jewels: Geri discusses the inspiration behind her new book, a collection of essays and stories drawn from her life and career. The book combines humor and poignant reflections, with a special foreword from her dear friend, Norman Lear. Filled with laugh-out-loud moments, touching memories, and incredible career insights, this episode is a masterclass in resilience, humor, and the power of breaking barriers. Geri Jewell is a Comedian/Actor/Motivational Speaker/Author and (thanks to Norman Lear) the trailblazing first person with a visible disability to appear as a TV show regular! Geri went straight from special ed to special treatment as a Facts of Life cast member, portraying Blair's Cousin Geri and providing essential representation for kids growing up and living with Cerebral Palsy. Geri's life and career have always been an inspiration, as evidenced by her brand new coffee table book 'Geri's Jewels & Gems', which will provide you with a fresh, positive perspective on the inevitable hardships and struggles we all face. Brace for Geri's sunny outlook, grit and determination to shift your mood and encourage you to pursue your own dreams! As a child, Geri's imagination took her to Wimbledon, standup comedy stages and Hollywood. She was soon exchanging letters with Carol Burnett, performing at the Comedy Store and playing doubles with John McEnroe and Arthur Ash! Her mother had warned her, “Be careful what you wish for.” Geri teaches us that kids with disabilities often grow up emotionally stunted because so much emphasis is placed on their physical development. Cast in an NBC sitcom at the age of 23, Geri was a rich target for unscrupulous managers and “friends.” She frequently lost her way while being misunderstood, underestimated and searching for the courage to live an openly gay life. The physical beating of Cerebral Palsy can be very painful and poor balance leads to debilitating falls. Geri was recovering from back and neck surgery, waiting in line at CVS to purchase botox for her neck pain when David Milch approached her and felt inspired to cast her in Deadwood! Your next miracle could be just around the corner! Geri talks to us about her first inspirational book called I'm Walking As Straight As I Can, her determination to defy expectations, how CP has provided her with unique insights into the human condition and her intention to help others reach their potential. Then Geri's best friend, hearing impaired comedian Kathy Buckley joins us on the panel to share more truly adorable anecdotes and adventures. Dennis is joined via Zoom by Christian McLaughin, author of the novels Glamourpuss and Sex Toys of the Gods, to talk about his newest project; the play Trumpery, which is having its world premier at the LA Fringe Festival through June 28th. Here's the shows not-so-implausible premise: Ex-President Trump (Austin Walker) is running from the law on a yacht with his wife Melania (Lauren Howard Hayes), daughter Tiffani (John Cantwell AKA Love Connie) daughter Ivanka (Tatjana Vujovic), son-in-law Jared Kushner (Felix Pire) and a mysterious stowaway (Natalie Whittle) and mayhem ensues. Christian talks about having the inspiration for the play way back in 2016, experiencing a breakthrough on the storyline while playing peek-a-boo with his cats on his birthday, why he simply had to include Tiffani's real vanity pop single "Like a Bird," and the kismet of having the show debut between the real Trump's conviction and sentencing. Christian also talks about his early days in LA, his career as a television writer on shows like Married With Children, Desperate Housewives and the 2001 MTV soap Spydergames, which he created. Other topics include: his life-long love of movie posters and the online store he started to sell them (www.westgategallery.com), revising his debut novel Glamourpuss for Kindle for its 25th anniversary, being college roommates with filmmaker Robert Rodriguez, the night comedian Geri Jewell came to see herself parodied in Christian's stage spoof The Phacts of Life, reenacting scenes from Search for Tomorrow as a child, how his parents are both awesome LGBT allies, and feeling more inspired and prolific than he has in his entire career. “Cousin Geri” (December 24, 1980) Fun game for listeners: Take a shot every time Drew mentions the phrase “gigantic bitch” in connection with Lisa Welchel's Blair, who is in rare form this episode as she shuns her disabled cousin Geri for reasons that aren't the ones you're probably assuming. In this discussion, we bring up why Geri Jewell is a trailblazer as far as being queer and also one other thing and also why “actress recurring on Deadwood” is lowkey code for lesbian. Flowing East and West: The Perfectly Imperfect Journey to a Fulfilled Life
There are all kinds of reasons Chris Hendricks could have a poor outlook: he was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at age 4 and his doctor told him he would have a hard time in life; he was in and out of a wheelchair in middle and high school and suffered the particular brand of cruelty practiced by teenagers; at one point, he lost his grandmother, his girlfriend and his band all at the same time. Life has not been easy for Chris. However, Chris chooses to look for magical moments instead of miserable ones. He uses music when he needs inspiration and lives by the philosophy that believing is seeing instead of the opposite. Please listen in to hear some of Chris' story, and his amazing music that are part of his perfectly imperfect journey. Bio Chris Hendricks' music is a blend of pop and RnB with sprinkles of influence from James Taylor to Eminmen. Chris began singing at the age of four for friends and family and hasn't stopped since. He's been a songwriter, poet, lyricist and guitarist for over 15 years. His debut album Noise (2010) sold over 10,000 units. He's performed across the United States, Canada and in Europe. His music has been used by the National Hockey League, the National Football League, and Major League Soccer. He's written music for film (Hunny Bunny in 2020, Carol of the Bells in 2021, OCD in 2021) and television (Radical Dating in 2017). His single “Noise” was the theme song for the NHL's Carolina Hurricanes and Florida Panthers for the 2012 and 2013 season. His song “Anthem” was used as the signature “goal scoring song” for both NHL teams as well. His most recent releases “Soul on Fire” and “Stars” (2022) have been used as pump up music for the Sandiego Chargers. Chris has toured with, and opened for grammy award winners Amy Grant and Mercy Me as well as the grammy nominated group Delta Rae. Chris has shared the stage with well known artists such as Daughtry, Parachute, Tyler Bryant, Andy McKee, Geri Jewell, Kathy Buckley, Donnie/Andy Demmers, and Jim Parsons. Chris has performed the National Anthem for the Carolina Hurricanes and Durham Bulls. Chris has performed in Prague, Bulgaria, the United Kingdom and the Caribbean. Chris has performed at notable venues across the U.S. including the Alex Theater (LA), Bluebird Cafe (Nashville), The Listening Lounge (NYC), Eddie's Attic (ATL), The Carolina Theater (Durham, NC), The Evening Muse (Charlotte, NC), Lincoln Theater (Raleigh, NC) and Disney World. Chris has performed at many colleges and universities including Elon University, East Carolina University, University of Pittsburgh, UNC Chapel Hill, UNC Wilmington, UNC Greensboro, Duke University, and Peace University. Currently he lives in Chapel Hill NC with his partner Heather and daughter Fern. Website: http://www.iamchrishendricks.com/ Latest Album: https://music.apple.com/us/album/stars-single/1655076559
Kathy believed that her disability did not make her less than anyone else. While questioning herself, she aimed high. Yet her headshot was thrown into the trash by a comedy club owner. As a stroke of luck, famous comedian Geri Jewell saw it in the trash and pulled it out. This led to Kathy's first comedy gig, where she was an instant hit. She ran into Tony Robbins in the parking lot, where Kathy was invited to share the stage with him for years to come, and she performed all over the country. Kathy did the impossible and became the world's first hearing-impaired comedian.
Geri shares her ups and downs. She gets asked to speak at the White House, not just once but three times. Once with Ronald Reagan and twice with Barack Obama. But she is also sexually assaulted by creeps that prey on disabled people. A frequent guest on Hollywood's red-carpet events, her life has thrilling highs and indescribable lows. Through it all, Geri does one thing well, she keeps going and never loses her ability to make people laugh. In the process, Geri continues to inspire millions.
Geri shares her stories of working with Cheech and Chong, auditioning for Burt Reynolds, decapitating Big Bird, and how she landed her starring role on ABC's "Facts of Life". But success had its ups and downs. Cerebral palsy causes a lot of pain. Geri would later find herself at death's door, addicted to painkillers, too sick to work, and in a failing marriage. She would get a second shot at success when a famous producer recognized Geri at a pharmacy and offered her a role on HBO's Deadwood.
Unhappy with school, Geri tries to join the military but they don't want her. Geri tries everything, and even writes letters to TV star Carol Burnett and tells her that she is interested in a stand-up comedy career. Unbelievably, Carol writes back and encourages Geri to go for it. Right after high school, Geri auditions for a comedy club on Hollywood Boulevard. In her first attempt at stand-up comedy, Geri received a standing ovation. The audience loves her and she is an instant hit in the Hollywood comedy scene. After performing on stage for a couple of years in Hollywood and around Los Angeles, Geri lied her way into landing a spot on national television!
Being the world's smallest premature baby at that time, Geri Jewell began her life with trauma. She started life at three pounds and then dropped to two. She was isolated and no one was allowed to touch her, so she had no physical attention for the first 3 months of life. Geri was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Her first stage appearance was as a baby where she was used at a medical convention for doctors to observe. Geri is upset that she cannot attend a “normal” school and is continuously bullied and abused by school children and kids and parents in the neighborhood. Her younger sister Gloria is her saving grace, and when they play together Gloria puts popsicle sticks on Barbie Dolls so that Geri feels normal with her leg braces.
Today on Too Opinionated we visit with Television historian, archivist and podcast pioneer Stu Shostack! Award-winning filmmaker CJ Wallis' latest documentary STU'S SHOW, chronicling the relationship between legendary actress Lucille Ball and TV historian Stu Shostak, premieres on digital May 2, 2022 from Upstream Flix. The story of TV historian and archivist Stu Shostak, the documentary features screen-legends Tony Dow (“Leave it to Beaver”), Michael Cole ("The Mod Squad"), the late Ed Asner (“Lou Grant”), Butch Patrick (“The Munsters”), Academy Award Winner Margaret O'Brien, Geri Jewell and many, many more. Shostak got his start handing out tickets to Norman Lear sitcom tapings to people in Hollywood and parlayed that into doing audience warm-ups prior to tapings for shows such as “All In The Family” and “One Day At A Time”. The film also indirectly tells the story of television legend Lucille Ball who, contrast to popular belief, was an extremely kind and generous person who treated those around her like family. Ball is hired to hold Q&A's at a Los Angeles based College which provides a window of opportunity that alters the course of Stu's life. Shostak's encyclopedic knowledge of Ball's career earns his way into becoming an essential part of her small inner circle as her archivist and assistant to her husband Gary Morton. After Ball passes away, Shostak pioneers what we know now as “podcasting”, hosting internet shows interviewing celebrity cast and crew of the golden age of television. He also co-produces the widely successful LOVING LUCY conventions which welcomed prior cast, crew and superfans from around the world to come together for a few days to celebrate their love of I Love Lucy. At one of these Loving Lucy conventions Stu meets Jeanine Kasun, a music teacher and Lucy super-fan, who noticed Shostak hosting game shows, events and trivia contests. The two speak on the phone at length and eventually begin dating until Jeanine suffers a brain aneurysm and the two, alongside the legends of television, enter into a war with the medical industry to keep her alive. What fun and gorgeousness! Time flew with two-time Emmy-nominated actress, Lee Purcell, and, world's collided all over the place. It is a small world, after all. From her runway days at three (I know!), Native American ancestry, multi-generational military mantle, to dancing, singing, regional TVing', Lee went on to best 500 hopefuls, handpicked by Steve McQueen hisself (who mentored Lee in all things life, career & fitness––sweet surprise story there), to co-star with Kirk's son, fairly green, Michael Douglas. Lee later co-starred with Kirk, and they're not her only father/son dynasty co-stars. Not a bad place to start. Follow that teaming with Orson Welles, earning an Emmy nomination alongside Mark Harmon, and then another co-starring with Beau Bridges, and father Lloyd. In fact, Lee had lots of Bridges. Hysterical. Old friends with Jeff and his later girlfriend, Candy Clark, well, there are stories then and now, there, too. There's Malcolm McDowell, Chadwick Bostwick, Jon Voight, a brand spanking new, Nicolas Cage, in Valley Girl (his first feature film), and that's barely scratching the Lee Hollywood leading men, surface. The most guest-starring roles on Murder She Wrote, and loads of other TV appearances, cross-genres. We talked fabulous friends, Donny Most, Anson Williams, Geri Jewell, Roslyn Kind, Joey Travolta, and his important inclusion film, Carol of the Bells, and the wondrous Donna Pescow––how we connected, and how those soul sisters found each other and just knew. What a delightful, easy, breezy sit down with this stunning, age-defying beauty, who managed to manifest her dreams and continues to do so. Looking forward to her upcoming, Chocolate Is Not Better Than Sex. You're telling me. Blair, Natalie, Tootie and…a bunch of other girls. That’s how it all began. A spin-off of Diff’rent Strokes, The Facts of Life showcased a ton of teen talent. The TV show also featured many ‘hot topics’. Sexuality, adultery, and racism for starters – and that's just in the first 5 episodes. Old Roommates revisits seasons 1 and 2 of this long-running NBC comedy. Is Christina a “Jo”? Is Brian a “Blair”? And why does he keep swearing? Listen to this. Follow Old Roommates on Facebook, Twitter & Instagram @OldRoommates, and email us at oldroommatespod@gmail.com. And, of course, rate, review and subscribe on iTunes, Spotify & wherever you listen to podcasts.
If you were a “Facts Of Life” fan…and really, who wasn't…. then you will LOVE our next guest. Geri Jewell was the beloved “Cousin Geri” on the famous sitcom. The cousin of the beautiful Blair who made frequent appearances on the show. Her groundbreaking role made her the FIRST person with a disablilty (cerebral palsy) to have a major role on a primetime series. Her work would open doors for the likes of Chris Burke “Corky” on Life Goes On.

Geri Jewell was the first person with a disability to score a regular role on a prime time series, when she starred in “The Facts of Life.” The fact of life is that Geri has accomplished more than most in show business…from stand-up comedy to top-selling author to world renowned motivational speaker. She received an Emmy consideration for her work on the HBO hit series “Deadwood,” and is famous for her ability to use humor to change attitudes in the right direction. Her dear feline friend Juliette was in on our conversation as well. Geri, we love you! Learn more about your host Jordan Rich at chartproductions.com.

Welcome to Epi81 of Succotash, The Comedy Podcast Podcast. I, Marc Hershon, am not alone this week. Joining me as co-host for the show, via Skype, is Associate Producer Tyson Saner! It was about a year ago that Tyson began sending me a stray clip or two, testing the waters to see if his choices jibed with the "flow of the show". And it wasn't long after that I recognized his value in helping me to canvas the vastness that is Podcastland in our ever-widening efforts to sample comedy podcasts. By the end of last summer he'd been named our Honorary Associate Producer. He supplies the show with at least three and as many as a half-dozen of the clips you hear every week, as well as giving me valuable background info on both the specific clips and the shows from which they've been harvested. At the beginning of the year he became our ACTUAL Associate Producer – as you can now hear in Bill Heywatt's closing credits – and this won't be the last time we hear his dulcet tones on the show, methinks. In the course of the show we find out a little of Tyson's background, how he stumbled into being a massive podcast listener and fan, how he found Succotash and what really catches his attention when it comes to deciding to click that Subscribe button on a show. We also have a DOZEN clips in this show, not to mention our Burst O' Durst, a brand new Henderson's Pants ad, and even a song from out of Tyson's repertoire of original music (most of which is available - for free - from SoundCloud!) PLUS we have a Special Bonus Interview at the very end of this epi! Keep listening after Bill Heywatt says "Goodbye!" to hear my interview with Cole Stratton, co-organizer of the 13th Annual San Francisco Sketchfest and co-host of podcasting's Pop My Culture. We were backstage (or "mid-stage", actually) following his appearance in Speechless (a show I help produce) at the Sketchfest. Our chat is only about nine minutes long but, as it comes at the end of the longest Succotash episode yet recorded, it's a while getting there. Top 10 Most Active Shows In Stitcher's Top 100 Comedy Podcast List No wild swings up or down the Stitcher 100 list this past week, but there definitely was some movement in the chart… AT MOVED 9. SModcast >> Tell ‘Em, Steve-Dave +630. The Brian & Jill Show -737. Fitzdog Radio +552. Keith & The Girl Comedy Talk Show -860. A Mediocre Time with Tom & Dan +772. Jim Florentine’s Metal Comedy Midgets +573. Righteous Prick +785. LightCast -794. SModcast >> FeaB +2097. Never Not Funny/Jimmy Pardo -12 I guess there WAS a major jump up the charts, actually, if you look at Succotash's nuimbers. We went from #5945 last week to #5107 this week, so that's pretty sweet! The 2nd Annual Stitcher Awards were last week and I attended the ceremony, which was held at The Chapel in San Francisco. Many awards were given out for categories across the spectrum. I recount the winner in this episode of Succotash, but you can also go see the list of top prize getters on the Stitcher blog. Burst O' Durst In this episode's installment of comedian Will Durst's running commentary, he takes some potshots at the ultra-rich. Podcast Review For my portion of This Week In Comedy Podcasts over on Splitsider.com, I've reviewed The Nerdist with hosts Chris Hardwick, Jonah Ray, and Matt Mira, interview B.J. Novak, actor/writer from The Office and the author of a new book of short stories. The Clips Chillpak Hollywood HourThis week’s clip from CHH with Dean Haglund & Phil Leirness features them thanking me for catching a big ol’ audio snafu in their recent episode. (Hey, we podcasters have to help each other out, right?) SModcastVintage SModcast (from July 10th, 2008) wherein Kevin Smith turns ordinary circumstances into "What If?" adventure time, pushing Scott Mosier furthur and further outside his comfort zone as the "What if"s become more and more unlikey, bizarre and often outrageous. EdumacationThe idea behind this show (form the SModcast universe) is that Kevin Smith needs educating so Andy McElfresh brings in stories and information from around the world while Kevin asks as many questions as he possibly can which Andy also attempts to answer. Hilarity Ensues. This clip is of Andy attempting to apply real world diagnoses to the cast of The Cosby Kids. Fitzdog RadioBobcat Goldthwait’s always entertaining and this time Greg Fitzsimmons has him. We get an interesting glimpse into the life of the once celebrated madman comedian whose ambition these days is all about making and directing movies. To fuel his interest, he’s back in the clubs, which leads to an interesting series of comedy club anecdotes. Perfectly ImperfectThis panel-based comedy commentary show features four variously "challenged" hosts – Kathy Buckley, Tobias Forrest, Geri Jewell and Mark Povinelli – who take off on, debate, and otherwise have their way with a variety of topics. In this clip, it's about marriage equality and Muppets. Broadcast BasementI was a guest with Chris Lanuti, the main host of podcasting’s Broadcast Basement this week. He asked me what kinds of podcasts I don’t particular like and which ones I do. Also how Broadcast Basement can get mentioned on our show more. Having me on as a guest is obviously one way… Nardwuar, The Human ServietteNardwuar's chats with musicians are among some of the most unique in the history of music interviews. He plays his own version of This Is Your Life complete with memorabilia and gifts for his guests. In this clip, he's speaking with eclectic musician Jaap Blonk. Do The Right ThingAnother fine British recommendation from our friend @Good_Podcasts, Do The Right Thing is a comedy panel show hosted by Danielle Ward with team captains Michael Legge and Margaret Cabourn-Smith. Guest team members this week are Jason Manford & Sara Pascoe. In the “Agony Aunt” sequence this episode, the panel answers a letter about how to deal with a free-loading, loser former best friend. Comedy Bang BangHosted by Scott Aukerman, the premise of the show is simple: Scott interviews celebrities, musicians and comedians. Another comedian or performer comes in after the initial interview and pretends to be someone else – sometimes a famous actor, but often a character from a television show, or sometimes a brand new original character. The featured guest is Park & Rec's Nick Offerman, who is interrupted by a whiny, pissy Paul Giamatti…voiced to perfection by James Adomian. A Mediocre Time with Tom & DanThis show was one of the six podcasts nominated for Best Comedy Podcast for the recent Stitcher Awards. The winner was Comedy Bang Bang, but it must mean something that Tom and Dan got in there. They’ve got a subscription model show and a free version and they do their show out of Orlando, Florida. In this clip, they ruminate about Salem witch trials, a hot new restaurant idea, and they also talk about making it big in Nashville with one of their songs. Adam & JPGot a note AND a clip in the Tweetsack this week from the Adam & JP podcast: “Hey Marc, I just recently found your show and I love it. Really great work! In advance, thanks for giving us a shout out. Basically, we talk all things geek (gaming, comics, movies, music, pop culture) with a comedic slant. We host a two hour radio show on a local station every Saturday morning and do a weekly podcast. I have attached a clip from our latest episode, in case you wanted to use it. Thanks again and we would love to chat with you on the show sometime to discuss your show." J Patrick Pretty funny stuff, guys! That's a pretty full show! Almost TWO hours of Succotash! Enjoy it, savor it, and please remember to pass the Succotash along, too! — Marc Hershon

It's The Black Spark, y'all. He's here and he's raw. He's become wicked infamous in the last few weeks and on this episode we talk to him about his work, his cast and all the attention they've been getting. The hot 20 year-old filmmaker is quickly taking the internet by storm with his unique series of dark, haunting short films that show off his sex life complete with masks, creative camera work, a perfect soundtrack, even more perfect young bodies, and absolutely no holds barred. It's so hot, we had to tape the interview naked. You don't want to miss this one.Dale, Scott & Jason also welcome back semi-regular Swisher, Steven J. Walker to the studio; that boy wasn't going to turn down an opportunity to try to weasel his way into Black Spark's next production. And guess what? The Black Spark liked Steve's voice. Could we have a new (porn) star on our hands? The guys also discuss, in no particular order: The SuperBowl, the new season of "RuPaul's Drag Race," the return of "Glee," Madonna's summer tour, "Facts of Life" actress Geri Jewell's coming out, SNL's controversial (or was it?!) estrogen/transexual skit, Ryan Yezak's new video (parody?!) of Britney's "Hold It Against Me," actor Andrew Garfield's butt, actor Henry Cavill's butt, Justin Bieber's death on "CSI," Barbara Bush (the young one) comes out for gays, and Brent Everett's night with gay and straight twins! All that, loads of gay hilarity, and the news from Sean Bugg at "Metro Weekly" magazine.Episode 119 is called, "The Tao of Black Spark," and it should be listened to while wearing a blue bandana tied across the bottom half of your face, while making out with a few friends, while rolling around in a tangled mess of Christmas lights. Listen here or get it on SwishEdition.com.

Geri Jewell played "Jewel", the disabled woman who cleaned Al Swearengen's Gem Saloon, on the HBO Deadwood series. She originally came to fame playing "Cousin Geri" on the NBC sitcom "The Facts of Life." She was the first person with a disability to have a regular role on a prime-time series. She began her career doing stand up comedy at the Comedy Store in 1978. This is part of her presentation at the Deadwood Chamber of Commerce banquet in Deadwood, SD in 2005 where she was the featured speaker. Find out more about Geri at her website, http://www.gerijewell.com
