So many times as Moms we have thoughts and emotions that we can't share with anyone else. We feel like if someone else knew what was really going on with us, they would take our children away. The reality is that so many of the feelings of rage, thoughts of guilt and grieving that we experience are very common. Once we say these secret things out loud, we can begin to get the help we need. Today's guest is here to have an extremely honest conversation about her experience as a Mom. Audrey Schoen is family therapist in CA. She works with law enforcement and families in her practice, but today we are talking more personally about Motherhood. She is a Mom of twins and her husband is in law enforcement. Audrey's wake up call happened when she was 7 weeks pregnant and she found out she was expecting twins. She was angry and immediately knew that her life was going to have a massive change almost immediately. She had so many complications throughout her pregnancy and even after they were born she ended up back in the hospital while the twins came home. Everything about this experience was not at all what she expected. Show Highlights: Why Audrey says that being a Mom is mundane. How Audrey managed to breastfeed her twins for 2 years. How Audrey was aware of her postpartum depression Rage and how it was a part of Audrey's postpartum journey Demystifying the bad thoughts that she experienced Being terrified of the judgment that would come if Audrey's true thoughts were revealed. The healing power of saying the secret thoughts out loud. How sleep deprivation amplifies postpartum symptoms. Yes, if they want one. God will always use us if we want Him to. In other words, we could say that we don't necessarily have a mission. God isn't going to wait around for us when things need to be done right now, but if we want a mission, if we want to be part of God's army, if we want Him to work through us, if we want the hardships and rewards available to us through life mission, He would love nothing better than to partner with us and show us the way. It's our choice.”~Audrey Rindlisbacher “It is impossible for us to break the law. We can only break ourselves against the law.”~Cecil B. DeMille “Our mission is to convey God's love”~Mother Teresa “Love is the will to extend ones self for the purpose of nurturing one's own or another's spiritual growth.”~Scott Peck “I know that these laws will lead you on a path that will lead you to be the best you can be, learning how to partner with God, and how to, as Mother Theresa said, “Convey God's love.” That is our mission. And my challenge to you is to…Get onto the mission path because your life will never be the same. It's a great adventure.”~Audrey Rindlisbacher Books from this episode:

It's one thing to know how important it is to play and another to work it into a busy schedule. Hear how Audrey "Mourning" Wood took on boredom. She's been a member of the L.A. Derby Dolls Sirens team since 2011 and was a member of All Stars from 2012-2015. She's a derby trainer and has been head trainer, captain of the Sirens and co-captain of All Stars. And this is only one of the many things she does "just" for fun. I invited her onto the show because we need to hear that people like Audrey face the same challenges so many of us do, but she's managed to take purposeful, conscious steps into new and sometimes scary territory to find fun and meaning in life. So, for those of us who regularly stay late at work and collapse in a heap in front of Netflix the moment we get home, Audrey has advice on how to not only find and create community and fun outside of work, but how to have the energy to enjoy it. In this episode, you'll hear about: How to be purposeful about how you spend your time instead of reactive Getting over the fear of being the instigator of fun How Audrey uses the Self Journal to set goals and keep them How reaching health and fitness goals give you the energy to enjoy life (energy you might not have right now) What feeling accomplished outside of paid work can do for your energy levels How you can get involved in roller derby in your area, including the L.A. Derby Dolls!
