Tina Turner war schon in den 60ern ein Star – in den 70ern dagegen sank ihr Stern. Mit "Private Dancer" gelang ihr jedoch Mitte der 80er eines der größten Comebacks der Musikgeschichte. Mit Titeln wie "Let's Stay Together" oder "What's Love Got to Do with It" wurde sie weltberühmt. Als "Private Dancer" von Tina Turner im Mai 1984 herauskam war eigentlich klar: das wird ein echtes Comeback. Zwei Singles "Let's Stay Together" und "What's Love Got to Do with It" waren bereits vorher erschienen und erfolgreich. Doch das es das erstaunlichste und nachhaltigste Comeback der Musikgeschichte werden würde, konnte damals niemand ahnen. Comeback der Queen of Rock Die erste Single "Let's Stay Together" wurde schon 1983 veröffentlicht, also lange vor dem Album selbst. Dabei handelte es sich um eine Cover-Version von Al Queen. Es wurde Turners erster Chart-Erfolg nach der Trennung von ihrem damaligen gewalttätigen Ehemann Ike Turner. Damals gab es zwischen den beiden diverse Rechtsstreitigkeiten, auch um den Namen "Tina Turner", denn Ike hatte sich die Rechte an diesem eintragen lassen. Sie selbst hieß gebürtig Anna Mae Bullock. Letztlich gewann sie den Streit jedoch. Nach der Trennung von Ike, haben ihr die britische Musikszene und große britische Musiker den Rücken gestärkt, indem sie ihre kleinen Club-Konzerte besuchten. Unter den Musikern fanden sich beispielsweise David Bowie oder auch Mick Jagger. Durch diesen Rückhalt kam ihre Karriere wieder ins Rollen und sie traf auf ihren neuen Manager Roger Davis, mit dem die Nummer "Let's Stay Together" enstand. One Take Wonder In ihrer Autobiografie "Tina Turner, My Love Story" hat sie geschrieben: "Wenn ich ein Lied das erste Mal höre, singe ich so lange mit, bis ich den Dreh raus habe. So hatte ich es schon als Kind mit den Titeln aus dem Radio gemacht. Sobald ich einen Song verinnerlicht habe, fühlt er sich an, als würde er mir gehören und ich bin bereit für eine Aufzeichnung. Ich gehe ins Studio, stelle mich ans Mikrofon und erledige die Sache. Ich will den Song komplett einsingen, von vorne bis hinten, weil ich eine Geschichte erzähle. Und die hat einen Anfang, einen Mittelteil und einen Schluss." Sie hat "Let's Play Together" tatsächlich in einem Take eingesungen und aufgenommen und wurde dann auch im Studio das “One Take Wonder” genannt", so Heinius. Dazu gehört eine Menge Disziplin und harte Arbeit.  Tina Turner hat sich zwar darauf spezialisiert Songs von anderen zu ihren zu machen — einen einzigen Song hat sie jedoch selbst geschrieben, der auch ein ganz großer wurde: "Nutbush City Limits". Sex ohne Liebe — "What's Love Got to Do with It" "What's Love Got to Do with It" kam kurz vor dem Album "Private Dancer" als Single heraus, wurde gleich Tina Turners erste Solo-Nummer und gilt als einer der besten Songs aller Zeiten. "What's Love Got to Do with It" wurde mehrfach mit einem Grammy ausgezeichnet und auch das Video hat den MTV Video-Award gewonnen, obwohl Tina Turner den Song anfangs gar nicht singen wollte.   Da musste vor allem ihr Manager Davies große Überzeugungsarbeit leisten. Doch er blieb hartnäckig und schickte sie zum Proben zu den Autoren des Songs. Dort gefiel er ihr schon besser und sie ließ sich schließlich auf die Aufnahme ein. Interessanterweise steht genau dieser Song heute wie kein anderer für sie, weshalb er auch der Titel ihres Biopics, der Verfilmung ihres Lebens, wurde.   Turner trifft ihre große Liebe   Ende der 80er in Köln am Flughafen trifft sie den deutschen Musik-Manager Erwin Bach das allererste Mal. Er ist zu dem Zeitpunkt bei ihrer europäischen Plattenfirma angestellt und holt sie ab, um sie ins Hotel zu bringen — der Beginn einer großen Liebe. Tina Turner und die Dire Straits Ursprünglich war die Nummer "Private Dancer" für das "Love Over Gold"-Album von den Dire Straits geplant. Während der Demo-Aufnahme für den Song merkte Mark Knopfler, dass es nicht zu ihnen passt und gab ihn an Turner weiter. Ein kleiner Teil von "Private Dancer" hat es dennoch auf das Dire Straits-Album geschafft... Welcher das ist, erfahren sie im Podcast. Im Song "Private Dancer" geht Tina Turner ganz tief in die Emotionen rein. In ihrer Autobiografie hat sie dazu geschrieben: "Während des Einsingens habe ich daran gedacht, wieso ich eigentlich immer nachgegeben hat? Wieso ich geschwiegen hatte, um einen Streit zu vermeiden. Wie ich blieb, obwohl ich mich danach sehnte zu gehen? All das ging mir beim Singen durch den Kopf. Es ging mir bei dem Song um die Trauer, die uns begleitet, wenn wir etwas tun müssen, was wir nicht wollen und das jeden Tag. Es ging mir um Gefühle, die ganz tief gehen". Und diese tiefen wunderbaren Emotionen hat sie uns für immer hinterlassen... Abschied von einer Ikone Anmerkung der Redaktion: Am 24. Mai 2023 ist Tina Turner gestorben. Das hat uns und viele Menschen weltweit zutiefst bewegt. Mit der Wiederholung dieses Meilensteine-Klassikers möchten wir ihr Leben und Werk erneut würdigen. Neben Tina Turner ist auch Jeff Beck, der sein Gitarren-Spiel beigesteuert hat, zu hören. Auch er ist nicht mehr unter uns. This part 2 of another session I recorded with aiwazz, its downbeat psybient goodness for your ears. Aiwazz says. Alrighty gang. A new mix for the select to peruse at your leisure. In 2004 (my god it’s really been that long?) hypno and i produced a mix called the slumbering gods… Hypno had introduced me to the wonders of psybient music, and i wanted to work with it. I also had my own leanings into obscure music designed for visionary escapades by the likes of steve roach. At that time in mixing I was really enjoying the concept of harmonic mixing. i wanted to test myself. What’s one of the deadliest harmonics in the world to mix with? The harmonics produced by bells and gongs. Complex and rich yet catastrophic when not mated well with other tones, bells offer a unique challenge to harmonic mixing. They also have a great power to alter brainwave patterns and therefore are used by the tibetans and others for meditation practice. I grew up with my parents always playing a series of tibetan bell recordings (called the the tibetan bells 1-4) by henry wolf and nancy hennings. They consist of experiments using traditional tibetan bells. They are powerful stuff to those who open their ears. So the concept was born: mix bells and tones with dub/psybient/otherworldy music that was modified to gel with a storyline engineered specifically to demonstrate the theme of a gods (insert favorite deity here) dreams. There was a parallel ofcourse thematically with the latent skills inherent in our own cells that may be considered by some to be “sleeping”. The first mix used the movie “the children of dune” for storyline weaving, this one uses “dune” so in a way it is a prequel, yet in others a sequel, as the dream is becoming a “waking dream”. The elephants eye below is open this time… Grin technically i feel it’s my best mastering work ever. I also wrote track 08 and have been exploring stereo field work. The tracks by me are labeled mixes/remixes as that’s what they are. lots of original material was written throughout. 7 months, 544 files in 48 folders equaling 40.4 gigs and making 24 tracks of audio at some points in 32 bit manipulation with audition. I didn’t use all the “freshest hottest tracks” i used tracks that meant the most to me in this context, so some are tracks that have been the soundtrack to my life. Such as the bells, which were written before I was born… into this vessel… Big love to hypno, it’s always such a blast working with ya. 01.
