In this episode of Partnering Leadership, Mahan Tavakoli speaks with Greg Bennick, keynote speaker, humanitarian, and author of Reclaim the Moment: Seven Strategies to Build a Better Now. Greg shares how his upbringing in a small Connecticut town with nontraditional parents helped shape his views on purpose, disruption, and transformation. Through vivid personal stories—including a near-death experience involving a truck crashing into a bookstore—Greg explores the chaos of modern life, the influence of technology, and the power of reclaiming presence and humanity.Together, Mahan and Greg dive deep into themes of self-awareness, leadership, kindness, and the role of meaningful relationships in navigating an increasingly noisy and fast-paced world. With humor and humility, Greg invites listeners to rethink success, stay grounded, and embrace possibility—both in life and leadership.Highlights from the ConversationWhy noise and chaos dominate our lives—and who benefits from itHow modern technology hijacks our attention and focusReclaiming the now in a world driven by spectacle and distractionThe near-death bookstore experience that led Greg to rediscover purposeBelieving in the possibility of kindness to escape the trap of pessimismWhy leaders must stop assuming the worst and start cultivating trustThe importance of emotional buy-in and meaningful work connectionsReverberation vs. ripple effect in leadership and idea-sharingCritique of traditional self-help and Greg's human-first philosophyDaily practices that help Greg stay authentic and focusedThe role of relationships in countering isolation and building purposeAsking whether we are using technology—or being used by itConnect with Greg Bennick:Greg Bennick on LinkedInGreg Bennick's Official Website"Reclaim the Moment: Seven Strategies to Build a Better Now"Connect with Mahan Tavakoli: Mahan Tavakoli Website Mahan Tavakoli on LinkedIn Partnering Leadership Website

This was one of my most enjoyable interviews. Greg Bennick is nothing short of amazing. He's an author, filmmaker, producer, singer/songwriter, philanthropist, non-founder and co-founder, and an extraordinary juggler. Greg is a TEDx speaker, speaking coach, and influencer who is devoted to transforming the world by inspiring personal and social change. I'm not sure where Greg finds the energy, but it all starts with his philosophy: What if...? Asking "What if...?" opens up doorways that for most seem closed and remote. Imagine what your life could be like if you had an idea that could potentially change the world and simply asked "What if...?" Greg is an engaging storyteller and you'll appreciate his sense of humor and infectious spirit. I hope you enjoy this episode and much as I did. You can connect with Greg on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/gregbennick/ or on his personal website: https://gregbennick.com. His new book - Reclaim the Moment: Seven Strategies to Build a Better Now - is available on Amazon and other national booksellers. ******************************************** Want to learn how to attract, hire, and retain top-tier employees? Bonus 5 - Greg Bennick, a fascinating guest of this episode, has led a life as eclectic as it is inspiring. From his upbringing in a small Connecticut town with career renegade parents to his gritty move to Seattle where he immersed himself in the punk music scene, Greg's journey underscores the beauty of living life on one's own terms. We explore his transition from aspiring rockstar to embracing roles in acting, music, and public speaking, along with his love for numismatics. His story is a testament to the power of pursuing passions and redefining success, promising listeners an engaging exploration of a life lived authentically. In a riveting account, Greg shares a pivotal moment from his youth that taught him the importance of focus and presence. Using the metaphor of "keeping your eyes on the knife," he emphasizes the necessity of attention amidst life's distractions. This concept is central to his book, "Reclaim the Moment: Seven Strategies to Build a Better Now," where he challenges the superficial allure of modern society. Inspired by Guy Debord's "Society of the Spectacle," Greg urges us to engage directly with life, encouraging listeners to seize opportunities and live beyond the superficial distractions that often cloud our experiences. Finally, listeners are taken on a global journey featuring Greg's spoken word tour across Russia and Ukraine, which highlights the shared humanity that transcends cultural boundaries. Greg challenges fear-driven narratives as he shares lessons on kindness from his travels to places like South Africa, Rwanda, and Thailand.
One person I didn't expect to see at DLD is the feted Turkish writer Ece Temelkuran. Not exactly a regular on the tech circuit, Temelkuran is best known as a critic of the Erdogan regime and author of the influential 2019 book How to Lose a Country: The 7 Steps from Democracy to Dictatorship. In our conversation at DLD, Temelkuran argued that the world is experiencing a profound transformation comparable to the Industrial Revolution, where neoliberalism is eroding both democracy and basic human morals. She sees modern fascism operating through entertainment and spectacle rather than traditional military aesthetics, and emphasizes the importance of friendship as both a personal anchor and political concept in resisting authoritarian forces. Currently living in Berlin, she expressed concern about rising far-right movements across Europe. She critiques Silicon Valley and social media, arguing that questions of ownership and profit motives are often obscured by technological utopianism. Despite the challenges, she finds hope in humanity's persistent moral compass and resistance to cynicism, though she prefers the term "faith" over "hope" as it implies a more active engagement with political change.Ece Temelkuran is a prominent Turkish journalist, author, and political commentator born in 1973 in Izmir, Turkey. She began her journalism career in the 1990s and became one of Turkey's most well-known political columnists, writing for major newspapers including Milliyet and Habertürk. Her writings often focus on Turkish politics, women's rights, and global political movements. She has been particularly critical of authoritarianism and populism, drawing from her experiences in Turkey. After facing political pressure, she left Turkey and has lived in various countries including Croatia and the UK. Some of her notable books include: "Turkey: The Insane and the Melancholy" (2016), "How to Lose a Country: The 7 Steps from Democracy to Dictatorship" (2019) and "Together: 10 Choices for a Better Now" (2021) She writes in both Turkish and English, and her work has been translated into multiple languages. Her books often combine personal narrative with political analysis, examining themes of democracy, resistance, and social justice.Named as one of the "100 most connected men" by GQ magazine, Andrew Keen is amongst the world's best known broadcasters and commentators. This week on The TRU Leader Podcast, Greg Bennick joins us as he talks about his book, "Reclaim the Moment: 7 Strategies to Build a Better Now," which offers practical advice for achieving clarity and focus in a world filled with distractions. Greg emphasizes the importance of self-centering and understanding one's actions to prevent burnout and maintain meaningful connections. Greg also advocates for intentionality in relationships, encouraging a shift from transactional to transformational interactions where kindness and support lead to mutual growth. This approach enhances both professional and personal relationships by showing how small acts of kindness can transform everyday experiences. In this episode of the Impostor Syndrome Files, we talk about how to create a meaningful “now” in the midst of everything going on in the world around us. With the upcoming election here in the US, volatility across the world and constant negativity on social media and the news, how do we get back on track and shift our attention to building a better now? Having spent an entire lifetime moving in countless global directions, from starting an international humanitarian nonprofit organization, to fronting a touring punk band, to speaking on stages in twenty-seven countries, Greg had no idea that severe ADHD was behind his journey until later in life. With that realization, he began to trace his journey backwards, arriving at seeing a single juggling ball in flight when he was a child. That moment of clarity was the key to unlock his life's work. He explores what focus means to each of us, and the effect it has on our psychology. In his Build a Better Now® keynote, he asks us to consider what our own single juggling ball actually is. We are all deeply affected by distractions amidst the modern rat race. People everywhere are overworked, anxious, and entirely stressed out. We need to be focusing today on today. Greg shares new angles on how focus builds self-esteem. He explains how increased self esteem affects how we show up, as a leader, as a teammate, and as a communicator. Greg transforms audiences and has a good time while doing it. He shares ideas about focus learned and earned over decades of interaction and engagement with people from literally all around the world. His core keynote presentation is Build a Better Now® and it is fun, insightful, and inspiring. It is available worldwide. Tyler Sj. describes himself as a "very average guy writing about very average things. Slightly better than average at doing it.” He likes to write about the things most folks know like family, growing up, figuring stuff out, and sobriety. He writes from his own experience and whether you listen to the songs on his new album, Long Bit of Weather, or read his articles on his website, you somehow get the feeling you're getting to know him. That's because you are. Tyler might be what Joe Walsh called an ordinary average guy, but as an artist he is far above average. Super excited to announce new guest, Conrad Fisher, to The Story!Music industry Veteran Matt Lindsey (Mel Tillis, Hal Ketchum) was planning a quiet evening at home when he got a call from his friend, legendary music producer Jim Rooney (John Prine, Nanci Griffith).“He was very insistent that I come down to a show in town,” Lindsey recalls. “He told me he'd found someone he wanted me to hear. He told me he thought this guy had a big future ahead of him. Once again, Rooney was right.”That was the night Lindsey met Conrad Fisher, a young singer / songwriter from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Fisher had come to Nashville to sit in with Rooney and his Irregulars (a stew of acclaimed session guys like Dan Dugmore, Dave Pomeroy along with acclaimed artists like Tim O' Brien, Pat Alger, Shawn Camp and more).“I loved what he did,” says Lindsey. “His music is so natural. I wanted to work with him immediately.”Indeed, FIsher possesses an immediately likable vocal style, is a fine guitar player skills and brought great original songs to the table. Lindsey and his Ashbrook Recordings partner Jeff Gordon (Elizabeth Cook) wanted to get Fisher into the studio as soon as possible. The result is Fisher's new Trouble With A Hammer, a 7–song collection of 5 originals and 2 covers; Tom Petty's “Walls,” and Waylon Jennings' “You Asked Me To.” On his originals, Fisher draws from a deep well of influences like Buck Owens (on the title track), Don Williams (“Old Lonesome Feeling” and “Better Now”), and even The Monkees (“Baby I've Got You”).Fisher provided vocals, keyboard, guitars, harmonic, percussion and kazoo and recorded the project at the famed Nashville recording studio, The Sound Emporium. Other noted musicians joining in were Fred Eltringham (drums, percussion), Russ Pahl (steel guitar/electric guitar), Pete Wasner (piano, Hammond organ, Wurlitzer), Gideon Klein (bass, fiddle) and Beth Fisher (vocals). The Pennyslvania-born singer and songwriter grew up in a Mennonite household where his dad played Johnny Cash records and where the young Fisher learned to love the harmonies of the church he attended. In 2018 Fisher went to Nashville to seek out his songwriting heroes like Roger Cook (“I'd Like To Teach The World To Sing”), Dickey Lee (“She Thinks I Still Care”), Dallas Frazier (“Elvira”), and Bill Anderson (“Tip of my Fingers”), among others.Still based in Pennsylvania, Fisher is an accomplished carpenter and spends time in his workshop building things for his family and friends. You can find Conrad and his projects here:Website: http://conradfishermusic.comYoutube: http://www.youtube.com/conradfisherFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/ConradFisherMusic/Insta: https://www.instagram.com/conradfishermusicFind The Story Podcast here: coryrosenproductions.com/podcastsSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/the-story/donations

This makes Posty the artist with the most RIAA Diamond-certified singles at eight total. Therefore, he'll be unleashing a greatest hits album called The Diamond Collection, to celebrate his victory. We had the pleasure of interviewing MARO over Zoom video.MARO, born and raised in Portugal, started her music studies at the age of four. Her mother, a music teacher, and her father, a music lover, MARO grew up gathering many sounds ranging from Rajery and Milton Nascimento to The Beatles and Bulgarian choirs. She crossed the pond to attend the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA where she linked up with “best friend” and regular collaborator John Blanda [Khalid, John Legend].Settling in Los Angeles upon graduation, she released a series of LPs and caught the attention of multi-GRAMMY® Award winner Jacob Collier who championed her music early on. Signing to Quincy Jones Productions, she accompanied Jacob on tour as a featured vocalist and instrumentalist. In 2021, she teamed up with NASAYA for the PIRILAMPO EP. Of the latter, Billboard raved, “The whole thing is exquisite.” She lent her voice to Odesza's 2022 single “Better Now,” while “saudade, saudade” appeared on the Festival da Canção 2022 compilation and made waves internationally.Beyond going gold in Portugal and eclipsing 11 million Spotify streams, it elevated her to the finals of EUROVISION 2022, placing in the Top 10. Now, the singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist threads together plainspoken straight-from-the-heart lyrics with delicate songcraft on her independent full-length debut, can you see me?We want to hear from you!
