Americans like their prescription drugs. According to WebMD, the number of prescriptions filled for Americans rose 85% between 1997 and 2016. That’s four times the population growth during that same period. While many Americans count on their prescription drugs, many also have an unfavorable opinion of the pharmaceutical industry. John Osborn is a senior advisor with the Washington office of the international law firm Hogan Lovells. He spent over 20 years with leading life sciences and healthcare companies. Osborn recently visited William & Mary as a guest of the Schroeder Center for Health Policy. He spoke with students about the pharmaceutical industry, drug pricing, and health policy issues. We are all blessed with certain unique gifts or “super powers”. We all have the potential to use these gifts to do good in the world. Some of us have a small circle of influence, others have a huge one. Dr. Barbara Van Dahlen's three guests on this episode of Inner Space all have impressive talents and each is using his rather large sphere of influence to help those who are hurting. Dr. Barbara's first guest, John Osborne, is a compassionate and gifted teacher with the Art of Living Foundation who is using his gift to help many – including veterans struggling with the invisible injuries of war. Dr. Barbara's second guest, Bruce Cohen is an Academy Award winning Hollywood producer who chooses projects that entertain, inspire and challenge us, and like Bruce, her final guest is an accomplished award winning storyteller. Charlie Stewart uses the medium of the documentary film to engage and inform his audience. On this final episode of Dr. Barbara's first season of Inner Space, we'll discover how these very special men use their gifts and their platforms to bring hope and help to those in need.Host Dr Barbara Van DahlenExecutive Producer Adell ColemanProducer Jackie GarofanoAssociate Producer Brandon TagoeTechnical Producer Greg SchweizerTalent and Booking Team: A Lopez MediaDistributor: DCP Entertainment See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

John Osborn recently made a major leap when he moved to media agency OMD after 25 years at creative shop BBDO. But the seemingly sharp turn in his career was the result of an organized mind. On this episode of Starting Out, Osborn discusses being an over-programmer, obsessively charting out his career path, which began -- like many kids -- with mowing lawns.

Gioachino Rossini was only 37-years-old when he wrote his final opera, William Tell. Although he lived for another 40 years, this epic work would remain a swan song of sorts. The libretto — based on a French play by Friedrich Schiller — tells the story of a Swiss community fighting for political freedom under Hapsburg rule. Through the music, we understand Tell's struggle to keep his family together while serving the greater good, and we experience a love that transcends tribal and national boundaries. On this week's episode of He Sang/She Sang, hosts Merrin Lazyan and Julian Fleisher are joined by author Fred Plotkin to discuss the glorious music of Rossini's final opera, William Tell. We also speak with the Tony-nominated set designer George Tsypin about the themes of nature and freedom that inspired him. Fred's YouTube pick (Luciano Pavarotti): Merrin's YouTube pick (Mary Schneider): Julian's YouTube pick: This episode features excerpts from the following album: Rossini: William Tell (EMI Classics, 2011)— Gerald Finley, baritone; Marie-Nicole Lemieux, contralto; Elena Xanthoudakis, soprano; Malin Byström, soprano; John Osborn, tenor; Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia conducted by Antonio Pappano

Asyl Cahier is a Tokyo-based DJ who also hosts a series of events entitled LSI Dream. While he was born in Japan, it was moving to New York that led him to explore music more deeply and begin to DJ. There he was influenced by, and had the chance to play alongside, house luminaries like Fred P, DJ Qu, and Baaz. There he also fell in love with the beauty of techno music and discovered more abstract sounds. When DJing Asyl seeks to fuse together these different influences, open to experimenting without ever losing sight of the dancefloor, with a consistent groove grounding his sets. His considered approach has established him as a name to watch in the Tokyo scene, and he has supported many international acts, including Shed, Svreca, Powell, Lena Willikens, Mosca and the Giegling crew. For our next installment of the AYLI podcast, we’re honored to bring you Berlin based, British born, Tanstaafl Records label-head John Osborn. He made his North America debut for us in 2012 alongside 2562 at the BeatBox, followed that morning by a 6 AM session at the legendary 222 Hyde. It’s rare that we release second podcasts from artists and even rarer for us to release a podcast without an upcoming planned performance. However, when the opportunity came to release his second AYLI podcast, we jumped at it. Take a moment to dig into this special “after-hours” session. Quality.
Bristol-based DJ October established his style of New York-indebted house and techno with a string of sought after releases for the likes of BRSTL, Aus and Fred P’s Soul People Music, while he now finds a regular home on Skudge and his own TANSTAAFL label (an acronym for 'There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch') that he runs with Berlin’s John Osborn. In this mix he strays from the usual hard house and smoky techno, smashing together a slew of snarling post-punk, EBM, New Beat and industrial. It’s a bit of a special one, this. The tenor always gets the girl, and The Barber of Seville is no exception. But it takes some wrangling, disguises and subterfuge to finally get Count Almaviva and his beloved Rosina together. Tenor John Osborn is certainly up to the task, a Rossini 'specialist' who is just coming off of a series of critically acclaimed performances of the composer's Otello. Listen in as Nicolas Reveles interviews this talented singer about his career and about the role.
