TrulySignificant.com honors the extraordinary culture of the Texas Parks & Wildlife division led by Rodney Franklin. Hear Rodney's backstory, starting with his upbringing in Paris, Texas and the positive influence of his Spanish teacher. And here is an excerpt from the upcoming book Big Hearted Texans that captures the spirit of this podcast:Every significant life has a moment—sometimes a single flash, sometimes a slow dawn—when a person realizes: This isn't just work. This is stewardship. For Rodney, it sharpened when his world expanded from a small historic site to the wide acreage of Lake Bob Sandlin State Park. Here was a state park as a backyard. Here was prescribed fire and wildlife biology and the living, breathing complexity of ecosystems. Here were school groups arriving wide-eyed—kids experiencing the outdoors for the first time.Rodney watched their faces change as they learned, as fear turned into curiosity, as wonder landed and stuck. And he realized something that sits at the center of this whole conversation: A Culture of Significance is built when you understand the impact of an ordinary day on someone else's forever.Seeing is believing. Check out www.tpwd.texas.gov and you will understand how this narrative unfoldsTexas parks have been called the “soul of the state.” If you're a native Texan—or even a long-term adopter—you understand why.Texas is rugged. Generous. Wide open. And proud. But Rodney makes the hard truth plain: in a state this big, less than five percent is public land. That fact changes the entire moral math. What you have is precious because there is so little of it.So the question becomes: how do you protect a place without turning it into a museum behind a fence? Rodney's answer is the balancing act at the heart of stewardship: protect the resource, and still invite the public in—because people won't fight to preserve what they've never been allowed to love. That means thoughtful trails. Responsible infrastructure. Planning systems that manage crowds. And experts—biologists, archaeologists, historians, interpreters—people who understand that parks are not “just” parks. They're habitat and heritage, science and story.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/success-made-to-last-legends--4302039/support.

TrulySignificant.com brings back a favorite guest, author and futurist Marc Morgenstern. Read his books..The Soul of Deal Making...is our favorite. Here's why you should listen to Marc.Marc is significant because he reframes the concept of “deal making” from being purely transactional to being deeply relational, values-driven, and purpose-centered. Here's why that matters: 1. He Elevates Deal Making from Tactics to Character Most books on deal making focus on:Negotiation tacticsFinancial engineeringLegal structureCompetitive advantageMorgenstern shifts the conversation to:IntentIntegrityAlignment of valuesLong-term relationship healthHis central idea is that great deals are not won — they are built. And they are built on trust, clarity, and shared purpose. 2. He Connects Business with Soul The “soul” in Soul of Deal Making represents:AuthenticityMoral groundingEmotional intelligenceRespect for all stakeholdersThis is especially significant in an era when:Short-term wins often override long-term sustainabilityDeals can damage reputations if misalignedLeadership credibility is fragileMorgenstern argues that the quality of the deal mirrors the quality of the people making it. 3. He Bridges Strategy and Humanity His work resonates with leaders who:Care about culture as much as capitalBelieve business is a vehicle for impactWant to create outcomes that endureRather than viewing negotiations as adversarial, he promotes:Mutual value creationListening deeplyUnderstanding motivations beneath positionsThat's a higher-level view of business — closer to stewardship than conquest. 4. Why It's Relevant Today In a world of:PE rollupsStartup exitsComplex partnershipsCross-border M&ADeals fail less because of math and more because of:Misaligned expectationsCultural incompatibilityEgoPoor communicationMorgenstern's message anticipates this reality. 5. Broader Significance His contribution sits in the same philosophical neighborhood as:Conscious capitalismStakeholder-driven leadershipValues-based entrepreneurshipHe reminds leaders that the true asset in any transaction is trust.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/success-made-to-last-legends--4302039/support.

TrulySignificant.com riffs with Kevin Adler, new Daddy, founder of Miracle Messages. Kevin F. Adler is an award-winning social entrepreneur, author, speaker, and “street sociologist” whose work focuses on homelessness, relational poverty, and community connection. He is best known for founding Miracle Messages, a nonprofit dedicated to helping people experiencing homelessness rebuild social support systems and find belonging and stability. He has been featured in major media outlets including The New York Times, Washington Post, PBS NewsHour, and delivered a TED Talk on his work. Adler has received recognition as a TED Resident, Presidential Leadership Scholar, American Express / Ashoka Emerging Innovator, and more. Educationally, he holds graduate degrees from UC Berkeley, the University of Cambridge, and is pursuing a Ph.D. in sociology at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Miracle Messages (Organization) Miracle Messages is a nonprofit focused on addressing what Adler calls relational poverty — the isolation and lost social ties common among people experiencing homelessness. The organization helps unhoused individuals by:Reuniting them with family and loved ones through volunteer-led message and reconnection services.Providing “phone buddies” — volunteers who connect weekly with unhoused neighbors for consistent social support.Direct cash support pilots, such as basic income experiments backed by Google.org and USC research. The mission reframes homelessness not just as a housing issue but as a crisis of community, connection, dignity, and belonging. When We Walk By (Book) When We Walk By: Forgotten Humanity, Broken Systems, and the Role We Can Each Play in Ending Homelessness in America is Adler's book (co-authored with Donald W. Burnes) that explores the deeper causes of homelessness and proposes constructive ways individuals and systems can help. Key themes include:Humanizing people experiencing homelessness — challenging stereotypes and urging readers to see their shared humanity.Relational poverty — the idea that losing social connections is a core contributor to people becoming and remaining unhoused.Critiques of broken systems — showing how social services and public narratives often fail to address root causes.Actionable solutions — from individual empathy and connection to evidence-based policy and community-driven approaches. The book blends social analysis, personal stories, history, and practical guidance, showing how walking with rather than walking by people experiencing homelessness can transform both individuals and systems. Why His Work Matters Adler's work is influential because it reframes homelessness from a problem to be managed into a shared human challenge that society can solve through empathy, connection, and better policy. His approach emphasizes relationships and agency rather than judgment or paternalism, and it has measurably reunited thousands of unhoused people with loved ones and helped inform innovative solutions like basic income pilotsBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/success-made-to-last-legends--4302039/support.

TrulySignificant.com honors Texas legendary musician and author Bob Livingston. Bob Livingston's true significance isn't just that he's an Austin “legendary guitarist.” It's that he quietly helped define the soul of Texas music while never chasing the spotlight—and then spent decades using music as a bridge between cultures. Here's why Bob Livingston truly matters: A Founding Voice of the Austin Sound Bob Livingston was part of the original Austin progressive country / cosmic cowboy movement in the late '60s and '70s—before Austin was branded as the Live Music Capital of the World. He co-founded Lost Gonzo Band, which became the house band at the Armadillo World Headquarters, ground zero for Willie Nelson, Jerry Jeff Walker, and the outlaw-country revolution.Livingston wasn't a sideman chasing trends; he was helping invent the sound that blurred folk, country, rock, and storytelling. If Willie Nelson opened the door, Livingston helped build the room. ✍️ A Songwriter's Songwriter Bob's songwriting is deceptively simple—honest, literate, and emotionally precise. His songs have been recorded by artists like Jerry Jeff Walker and Gary P. Nunn.He writes with a novelist's eye: place, character, regret, hope—all without flash. In Austin terms: Bob Livingston is the guy musicians listen to after the gig. A Cultural Bridge, not just a Musician. What elevates Livingston beyond “local legend” is what he did after Austin fame was available to him.He became deeply connected to Mexico and Latin American music, blending Texan folk with regional Mexican styles.Bob Livingston used music as soft power—a way to humanize people across borders through shared stories and rhythms. Integrity Over Industry Livingston consistently chose:Artistic authenticity over commercial packagingCommunity over celebrityLong-term influence over short-term applauseThat choice is why he's revered rather than merely remembered. In a town known for ego and excess, Bob Livingston became a symbol of quiet excellence. The True Significance (If You Strip It All Down) Bob Livingston represents something increasingly rare: A life where talent, humility, curiosity, and service stayed aligned. He helped shape Austin's musical identity, then spent the rest of his career proving that music is not about fame—it's about connection, belonging, and shared humanity. Remember this from Dare of an Angel- We did it simply to do it. We did it to be tender, yet tough, We did it for the beauty of music. Isn't that explanation enough.Visit www.BobLivingstonMusic.com to buy Gypsi Alibi- A Gonzo Memoir and all of Bob's music. TrulySignificant.com honors Natalie Bruce, U.S. record holder in free-diving. There are places the noise cannot follow you. Not the noise of headlines or deadlines. Not the noise of self-doubt or self-importance.Not even the noise of fear—at least not for long. One of those places lies a hundred meters below the surface of the ocean. And Natalie Bruce goes there on a single breath. She is a U.S. record holder in freediving—one of the very few humans on Earth who routinely descends into crushing pressure with nothing but lungs, training, and trust. But to call Natalie Bruce merely an athlete would be like calling the ocean “wet.” It is accurate—and it misses the point. What Natalie practices, what she embodies, is not escapism. It is engagement at its purest form. She enters what psychologists call FLOW state—a condition first studied by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, describing moments when action and awareness merge, time dissolves, and the self stops narrating long enough to let life speak. Natalie does not flirt with FLOW. She stakes her life on it. Commissioner Sid Miller and his wife Debra are honored on this special, bonus section to the Truly Significant chapter featuring their journey. Enjoy hearing about their journey of serving others and how this rancher means more to us Texans, especially in 2026. Here's our original tribute to him ....God made a Rancher. And on the eighth day… God looked down on His planned paradise and said,“I need a caretaker.” So God created a rancher. God said, “I need somebody willing to get up before daylight, check the fences, tend the cattle, then put on a clean shirt and go fight for folks who'll never know his name.” So God created a rancher. God said, “I need somebody strong enough to ride out droughts and floods, stubborn enough to stand his ground, and humble enough to know the land doesn't belong to him—he belongs to it.”So God created a rancher. God said, “I need somebody who knows the smell of fresh hay,the weight of responsibility, and the meaning of a handshake that still counts as a contract.” So God created a rancher. God said, “I need somebody who'll love Texas not just for its size, but for its soil… its people…and the generations who work the land long after the cameras are gone.” So God created Sid Miller. A man who wears a cowboy hat not as a costume, but as a testimony. A man who understands agriculture isn't a policy debate—it's breakfast on a school tray, livelihoods on family farms, and dignity for rural communities.God said, “I need somebody who'll stand up for farmers when it's unpopular, push back when Washington forgets where food comes from, and remind folks that common sense is still a virtue.” So God created a rancher who would becomeTexas Commissioner of Agriculture. But not a politician who visited ranches—a rancher who went to Austin.God said, “I need somebody who knows that leadership isn't about polish—it's about purpose. That significance isn't found in titles, but in lifting others up.” So God created a rancher. One who believes faith belongs in everyday work, that freedom is worth defending, and that feeding people well is a moral responsibility. God said, “I need somebody who'll tell the truth plainly, stand tall when criticized, and go home at night knowing he did right by Texas.” So God created Sid Miller. And while the rest of the world argues about trends, this rancher keeps his boots on the ground, his eyes on the horizon, and his heart set on service. Because long before the votes were counted, before the office doors opened, before the speeches were written— God already knew. Texas needed a rancher.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/success-made-to-last-legends--4302039/support.

TrulySignificant.com honors John Lennon on the 45th anniversary of his assassination. Featured on this show is the talented Darin Murphy, featured in the Broadway musical Lennon. Hear the inside story on John Lennon based on Darin doing the show through a beautiful blog that Ariana Huffington published. Enjoy this and the rare insightful stories about John Lennon through the lens of Darin Murphy who channeled his best Lennon on Broadway with Yoko Ono in the audience. When I was born in the fall of1964, the Beatles had just completed a full-scale invasion of the world (they actually were greeted as liberators). In my home the sound of the Beatles was like mother's milk, and the voice of John Lennon was as recognizable as those of my own parents. It was the envy of the music industry and ironically, John himself despised it, but in no way could it ever be mistaken for anyone else's. And I couldn't get enough of it. “Psychedelic vision is reality to me and always was. When I looked in the mirror at twelve, thirteen…I'd trance out and watch my face changing, becoming cosmic and complete. My eyes would get bigger and the room would vanish.” On December 8, 1980, I was 16 and watching Monday Night Football as Howard Cosell announced John's murder to America. Many would say that a part of them died that night, but not me. On the contrary, a part of me was born. I had always been an admirer, but suddenly I identified with John more than ever, and I discovered I could deliver a spot-on impression of that distinct voice. When I acquired my first 4- track tape machine, I would dissect the Beatles' recordings and recreate them as closely as possible. Those recordings eventually led to a job performing in a Lennon production on Broadway, which was seen by Arianna Huffington, which led to you reading this at this moment. That's just one of many serendipities and synchronicities that occurred within the cast and crew of LENNON over this past year, and they fed profound energy to a project that was already unique to anything else any of us had ever done. For all of us in the company, and Yoko Ono, who visited often, LENNON was a spiritual trip that transcended both show and show business, and I got to know a few sides of John that I hadn't before. Though we were dealing with a forty-year-long story that ended a quarter century ago, many of us, onstage and in the seats, felt as though we were actually experiencing John in the here and now. Perhaps that is where the real story of John Lennon lies, not in the places and dates and times, but in the people who have experienced him. There are those close to John who were enchanted by his charm, warmed by his generosity, frustrated by his stubbornness and wounded by his cruelty. And there are those far from him who are captivated by his charisma, inspired or enraged by his politics, enamored by his expressions of love or, like me, galvanized by his craftsmanship and charged by his spirit. Today as much as ever, artists use the talents of John Lennon the way Native Americans used the bison. Besides his musicianship and sensibility, we gain inspiration from his work ethic, his intellect, his literary skills, his presence onscreen, his comic timing, his artistic boldness, his naked candor, and his philosophy on life, which changed shape as his search for his own authenticity widened. “…The hardest thing is facing yourself. It's much easier to shout “Revolution” and “Power to the People” than it is to take a look at yourself; find out what's real inside you and what isn't, when you're pulling the wool over your own eyes, that's the hardest one.' It was no accident that Lennon left such a lasting musical legacy. He and McCartney had set out to do it purposely, to create music for future audiences as well as their own. But John had an even loftier goal: advancing the evolution of human consciousness. He talked and sang about it constantly, about how everyone could make it happen just by getting their minds together, “projecting our images in space and in time…raising the spirit of peace and love.” But he also warned us that the responsibility for bringing about such change lies in each of us as individuals. “You have to do it yourself…I can't wake you up. You can wake you up. I can't cure you. You can cure you.” We've been challenged, more than ever now, to recognize the man- made forces that lie behind our suffering; the prisons we've built for ourselves by limiting our thinking and our perceptions of reality; the ego-influenced illusions by which we live and die. These issues are front-page headlines, right now, every day, and that is why the words and dreams of John Lennon matter every bit as much now as they did then. At the heart of the matter is Truth, and it's important to realize, as Lennon did, that Truth is not some inanimate object to be manipulated, but a natural force living in the fabric of the soul that must be respected. But first, it helps to remember the most simple and basic of all the man's messages, the one he repeated over and over and would no doubt utter again if he had one more moment among us: I Love You. And we love you, too, John. Thanks!Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/success-made-to-last-legends--4302039/support.

Enjoy our conversation on what's important in life. We riff about Dr. Viktor Frankl, Sigmund Freud, and Bill Halamandaris. Christopher Wyze & the Tellers has won the 2025 Blues Blast Music Award for Best New Artist Debut Album for their thirteen-track release, Stuck in the Mud. The album, which landed on multiple blues charts around the world, received critical acclaim for its raw storytelling and powerful, fresh take on contemporary blues.Presented by Blues Blast Magazine, the Blues Blast Music Awards recognize excellence across the spectrum of blues styles and artists. A panel of blues industry professionals select nominees. Fan voting from around the world determines the winners. Joining Wyze & the Tellers in this year's winner's circle include Tab Benoit, Derek Trucks, Charlie Musselwhite, Shemekia Copeland, Bobby Rush, and Keb' Mo,' among others.“We haven't toured. We made a record of our original music — and let the music do the traveling,” shares frontman Christopher Wyze. “People told us we had to be out there gigging for the record to get noticed. We wrote, recorded, released, and built a fanbase around the world without ever hitting the road.”The band of veteran blues musicians was formed specifically to record ‘Stuck in the Mud,' with members all meeting for the first time in the studio. In the time between recording ‘Stuck in the Mud' and their follow-up live album, ‘LIVE in CLARKSDALE,' they played a single live gig — the live album performance – a fact that has made the group's rise all the more improbable. The band recorded ‘Stuck in the Mud' in two of America's most iconic musical locations: Clarksdale, Mississippi and Muscle Shoals, Alabama — both deeply rooted in the blues and roots traditions that inspire Wyze's sound. It burst onto the scene in late summer of 2024 and quickly gained traction worldwide, with listeners streaming in 90 countries. A string of radio and streaming charting successes propelled the album, along with nine of its singles. The album landed #1 hits with “Back to Clarksdale” (RMR) and the title track, “Stuck in the Mud” (iTunes Blues Charts: Germany, Mexico). It climbed onto multiple Blues Charts: in U.S., U.K., France, Canada, Switzerland, Belgium and Australia. ‘Stuck in the Mud' ended the year at #38 out of the Top 200 Blues Albums ranked by Roots Music Report (RMR) – one of just 3 albums by debut artists to break into the top 50.“When I first heard Christopher Wyze, I felt something raw, honest, deeply rooted in the blues – and unique,” said Johnny Phillips. “I've seen more than a few acts through the years. He's not trying to be anyone else. He's telling his stories — doing it with soul, grit, and a harmonica that cuts straight through. We're proud to have him on the Big Radio Records label. This award is a testament to what happens when you make good music.”Christopher Wyze & the Tellers are currently working on new material and planning select live performances in 2026.Listen to ‘Stuck In The Mud': cwyze.lnk.to/StuckInTheMudAlbumPRFor more information, visit christopherwyzeandthetellers.com.About the Blues Blast Music Awards:Founded in 2008, the Blues Blast Music Awards are presented annually by Blues Blast Magazine, the largest weekly internet blues publication in the world, with over 44,000 subscribers across all 50 U.S. states and more than 90 countries.
