POPULARITY
In this very first episode of Season Two, I am talking about obstacles that keep folks from working on their book project.I cover the five most common messages that the voice of self-doubt sends that end up getting in the way. 1. Self Doubt Message #1: You're Not “Expert Enough” to Write this Book2. Self-Doubt Message #2: Your Book Idea Isn't Good Enough3. Self-Doubt Message #3: You're Not Popular Enough4. Self-Doubt Message #4: Who You, a Writer?5. Self-Doubt Message #5: You're Too Old to Be a “First-Time Author”Resources I mentioned:Two of my favorite teachers are Kate Swoboda aka Kate Courageous and Tanya Geisler. Here is something about Tanya's Yum & Yay folder idea.If you are in midlife like I am, there are some wonderful voices out there, check out Sara Smeaton's Midlife Manifesto and Lou Blaser's Midlife Cues newsletter & podcast. Also, here's an article I wrote on the same topic of self-doubt that also includes additional actions to try.If you're enjoying the podcast be sure to subscribe & consider leaving a 5-star rating and brief review on Apple Podcasts.

Kate Swoboda, also known as Kate Courageous, wears many hats including life coach, consultant to organizations, contributing columnist to magazines such as USAToday, Forbes and Business Insider and is also the author of a brand new book called The Courage Habit. Kate tells us how to make courage an everyday part of our lives by simply learning how to practice it.
"Like - this is my life and I got shit to do...like good shit to do. Good, awesome, amazing things that I'm excited to do and I'm doing them and that's that." ~ Kate Courageous Meet Kate Kate Swoboda is creator of YourCourageousLife.com, Director of the Courageous Living Coach Certification at TribeCLCC.com and author of The Courage Habit: How to Accept Your Fears, Release the Past, and Live Your Courageous Life. She helps individuals, teams, and companies see where old, fear-based habits have kept people stuck or started to limit what’s possible for an organization, and then start creating more courageous lives by getting into “the courage habit,” a four-part process for behavioral and organizational change. Kate has appeared in MindBodyGreen, Entrepreneur, USA Today, Forbes, Lifetime Moms, The Intelligent Optimist, Business Insider, and more, and her website Your Courageous Life was named a top-50 blog for happiness by Greatist. She’s spoken at conferences and seminars on the topic of courage as it relates to personal development, releasing overwhelm, business and marketing, money mindset, wellness, increasing emotional resilience, and healthy goal-setting using habit-formation techniques. My fave moments from this conversation: I mean...first of all, Kate Courageous was my very first life coach EVER and she taught me a personal growth lesson having to do with tight pants and I've got to tell you...I've carried that lesson with me years later still! And I am SO STINKING EXCITED + PROUD of her on the release of her very first book, The Courage Habit. How fear-based behaviors become fear-based habits and what we can stop that shit and practice courage-based habits instead. Kate's journey through an auto-immune diagnosis all while thinking...I'm doing the right things SO WHY AM I SICK? The hard-won courage and knowing when you're able to say - it's ok - I'll get to the other side. How the shadow side of working on our 'stuff' can show up in relationships and boundaries. The four predominant ways fear shows up for us. I especially love that Kate takes us through a super practical and relatable example of how to practice The Courage Habit when needing to have an uncomfortable conversation with a close friend. How short-term "rewards" like a decrease in stress is a fear-based way of how we can self-sabotage our long-term goals and desires. (

She helps individuals who feel stuck start connecting to their most courageous selves, and she helps companies to create more innovative office cultures where teams at every level feel valued for their contribution to the whole. Kate was deemed one of the top 50 bloggers in health, fitness, and happiness by Greatist. What does it mean to be courageous? What does it look like to overcome failure? How can we navigate life with more joy? These are age old questions that many of us find ourselves asking. What is refreshing about this interview with life coach Kate Swoboda, more commonly known as Kate Courageous, is the unique perspective Kate takes on how to navigate these topics without perpetuating harmful narratives of individualism and meritocracy. Kate Swoboda is joining me today to celebrate the release of her brand new book, The Courage Habit: How to Accept Your Fears, Release the Past, and Live Your Courageous Life. Kate (who is also known as Kate Courageous) is a life coach, the founder of Courageous Living Coach Certification, and Your Courageous Life. And, I’ve had the pleasure of working with her previously as a mentor in her coaching certification program. Kate’s work has been multifaceted around courage and fear, and her path to becoming a published author is inspiring. After having her book proposal accepted, she came to the realization that she wanted to go deeper on the questions of how we develop courage, and what holds us back from acting courageously. She asked her publisher if she could change up the focus of the book (they said yes!) and she created a book that brings in neuroscience, behavioral psychology, and other fields to develop the framework for The Courage Habit. In this episode, Kate Swoboda and I talk about: Her new book, The Courage Habit Her road to becoming a published author, along with her advice to anyone wishing to get a book published (keep trying) How she proposed a new angle on the book, after the proposal was accepted How to start practicing courage based behaviors and get “unstuck” Experiencing fear, and practicing mindfulness to recognize that you’re experiencing fear, while also stepping back to observe your own “stress responses” The Inner Critic, and the ways that the Inner Critic counteracts courage: o Perfectionism o People Pleasing o Sabotage o Pessimism That we need to work with (instead of against) the Inner Critic, by meeting him/her with unconditional love and acceptance The role of community in developing courage The question of “what if courage could be easy.” Resources The Courage Habit: How to Accept Your Fears, Release the Past, and Live Your Courageous Life by Kate Swoboda on Amazon Courageous Living Coach Certification - CLCC Kate Swoboda’s site: Your Courageous Life Kate Swoboda on past Jump Start Your Joy episodes: Kate Swoboda on “Courage as a Path to Healing (Episode 8, Season 1) The Crossroads of Courage and Creating Habits with guest Kate Courageous (Episode 80, Season 2) Season Two Finale: A Roundtable on Joy, Finding Inspiration, and Self Care in Difficult Times (Episode 101, Season 2)

Grace & Grit Podcast: Helping Women Everywhere Live Happier, Healthier and More Fit Lives
A lot of women this time of year are starting to think about how they are going to address their health concerns in 2017. Get ready because everywhere you look for the next several weeks, you are going to see ads for diets and exercise programs promising to help you reach your goals in the quickest way possible with the least amount of effort. Wouldn't it be nice if getting healthy was as simple as just addressing food and exercise? But it's not. Food and exercise are slivers of the health pie, but they do not, by any means, complete it. Sometimes the very thing that is standing in the way of a woman doing what needs to be done to reclaim her health and happiness is the very thing she is most terrified of addressing: A broken marriage A job she has hated for 20 years. An unanswered calling on her life. Beliefs that no longer serve the life she wants to live. These are often the mountains standing in the way of true health, and none of these mountains can be conquered with clean food and a better strength program... to summit these mountains a woman needs a heavy dose of courage... Courage to honor who she is, what she wants and the courage to take action around making it possible. So, I have invited life coach Kate Swoboda, also known as Kate Courageous to the show today to help us dive deeper into the topic of courage. Ask Kate Swoboda what it takes to start a business and she'll tell you it takes courage. In fact, courage is such a central element in her message that she often goes by the name Kate Courageous. Kate went from college English professor to life coach several years ago, and now trains life coaches to move through their own doubts and fears and accept the challenges they come up against. In this episode of Hack the Process, Kate will discuss how she realized that life coaching was her next calling, why chasing motivation can be a distraction from getting things done, and how one common core fear keeps many of us from pursuing our dreams.
Kate Swoboda, or Kate Courageous, is a one of a kind coach, mentor, and the creator of the Courageous Coaching Training Program. She has also created the Coaching Blueprint, and a program for individuals, Your Courageous Life. I recently graduated from CCTP (Courageous Coaching Training Program), and found my time in the program to be inspiring, intense, and life changing. It was a little over a year ago that I first got on a call with Kate to chat about joining CCTP. Getting on that call, I was scared to death I would not make the cut. Truth be told, over the last year in the program, I've wrestled a good deal with those feelings that I'm either not good enough, or don't deserve the good things that come my way. But this was different, Kate wanted to truly understand who I "be," and how I wanted to connect with others. I knew from that first call that the program was a fit, and that Kate was different, in the very best of ways, that she saw potential in people, that she was all heart, and that she was as courageous as her name suggests. In other words, CCTP was the real deal and it was the right program for me. Now a year later, I was super happy that Kate agreed to jump on a call for an interview. Again I was nervous, but this time, it was because I was in the driver's seat. Not that a client can't interview their coach (heck, I interviewed my former coach, and now buddy, Michelle just a couple of episodes ag). But I had heartfelt questions about the program I'd just graduated from, I wanted Kate to know I respected her and all that she's done. And, OK, I kind of nerded out and loved that I GOT to talk about Pema Chodron with the very person who'd introduced her to me. Mostly, though, I wanted her to feel at home on my podcast. I think you'll like this interview; Kate is a powerhouse and I am honored to have her on the show. In this episode we talk about: - what to do when "things fall apart" in your life; and how to deal with the emotions that come up - what to do if you've been working on personal development for a while, but it doesn't seem to stick - how to approach being an entrepreneur - that you "take yourself with you" wherever you go, including your corporate job, or to your own business - how she approached creating the Courageous Coaching Training Program - Kate's definitions of fear and courage - what keeps her going, and what she loves about being an entrepreneur - what it's like to be a "new-ish" mother Resources for this show: Kate's website: Your Courageous Life Coaching Blueprint: Marketing course for coaches Courageous Coaching Training Program (tell Kate that Paula sent you) Dream Into Action Retreat - running 11/13-15 - sign up for the "Love Notes" to get information on how to win a free spot! Today we’ve got another great episode for you with my long-time friend and super awesome all-around woman, Kate Courageous. Kate is a coach, writer and speaker who teaches people about working with fear, how to practice with courage in the face of fear. I brought Kate on because this topic is ever-present for most of us and something I continue to be committed to working on in my own life, and sharing that journey with all of you. Too often we think we’re being courageous by doing everything on our own and “handling” our problems by ourselves because we don’t want to bother or burden others. This is you, right? Thought so! Although Kate now teaches that these are just voices in our heads, and we must do what’s contrary to them in order to grow. Kate teaches, and I concur, that it’s when we ask for others’ support that we are most courageous.

Today’s Guest I can't even remember how I first came across Kate Swoboda, more commonly known as Kate Courageous, but I've been reading for blog for at least a couple of years. She's been on my list of people to get in touch with for quite a while, and I'm so excited to feature her on this show! Kate Courageous is a life coach, writer and speaker who teaches people how the practice of courage is revolutionary. Since 2009, thousands of people have visited Your Courageous Life to learn more about working with fear and practicing courage–with the core message being that when you’re trying to eradicate fear or pretend that it doesn’t exist, you’re working against yourself. Her approach is a sexy-soulful combination of intuitive spirituality with brass-tacks, pragmatic wisdom. She defines courage as feeling afraid, diving in anyway, and transforming. Kate is the author of the Courageous Living Program and The Coaching Blueprint. She’s lead retreats in Italy and California, created marketing seminars for the Interchange Counseling Institute in San Francisco, and rocked out leading a breakout session at the World Domination Summit held annually in Portland. Kate Courageous joins the YKAL podcast! I’ve watched Kate from afar for a while now…like when you’re in high school it’s one of those, look at that really pretty, smart, kind girl that knows everyone. So, I did some internet stalking (as we all do) and was SO hoping she wasn’t going to talk about how to get rid of fear. Please, please, please! And what I found was that she is AWESOME and no, doesn’t talk about kicking fears ass, but instead talks about understanding fear and having a better relationship with it. From Kate’s website: “Your Courageous Life sounds the call for you to revolutionize your life from within through practicing courage. Kate defines courage as: feeling afraid, diving in anyway, and transforming.” So, I knew I HAD to speak to this woman.
