Champ the Lake Champlain MonsterThis week we dive into the legend of Champ, the Lake Champlain Monster, exploring over 300 reported sightings dating back to 1609 when Samuel de Champlain claimed to witness a 20-foot serpent-like creature. We chronicle key evidence including Sandra Mansi's famous 1977 photograph, sonar readings capturing unusual shapes, and alleged echolocation recordings from cryptozoologist Katy Elizabeth.Throughout the episode, we discuss theories about whether Champ could be a prehistoric survivor like a plesiosaur or tanystropheus, citing Lake Champlain's substantial depth of 400 feet as a potential habitat. We also look at alternative explanations for the Lake Champlain cryptid, including large sturgeon (which can reach 27 feet), groups of otters swimming in formation creating a serpentine illusion, or partially submerged logs moved by underwater currents called seiches.Patreon: Support Believing the Bizarre and get tons of extra content by joining our Patreon. For updates, news, and extra content, follow Believing the Bizarre on social media:InstagramFacebookTwitterDiscordShop Merch: You can rep Believing the Bizarre and buy some unique merchWant to send BTB something? Ken has recently released his latest book "The Essential Guide To Loch Ness and other Aquatic Cryptids" and we dive into the history of Nessie since she first came to the media's attention in 1933.   We cover some of the famous early sightings, THAT photo, the famous cryptozoologists who have joined the search for this enigmatic creature and Ken's theory on what Nessie could possibly be.   We then hop across the Atlantic Ocean to look into another aquatic beasty allegedly caught on camera more than once, Champ. Lake Champlain's own mysterious creature has been reported for the best part of 300 years and we look at the Sandra Mansi incident, some notable sightings and the work people like Katy Elizabeth are doing hunting for the USA's top aquatic monster.   Ken's site can be found here: His books can be found here:   A massive thank you to Ken for joining me once more on Mysteries and Monsters.   Our Patreon is now live, with bonus content, early release of the regular show, articles and monthly prizes for everyone who signs up!   Join here now for the flat fee of $4 a month which is a bargain!   Don't forget, you can now show your support with our Merchandise shop on Redbubble! I Want to Believe – Episode 13 PODCAST NOTES: On the Trail of… Champ Source: smalltownmonsters.com Small Town Monsters began as an independent film series exploring lost and bizarre history around the United States. Focusing on small town folklore, our team tells stories through the words and experiences of those who were most affected by them - residents and witnesses. On the Trail of… Champ On the trial of…Champ chronicles North America’s most infamous lake monster, affectionately known as “Champ”. Centuries of lore, sightings and mystery surround this creature as well as the lake it calls home. Shot on location at Lake Champlain, Vermont/New York, USA, On the trail of…Champ dives deep into the rich history of the region in connection with Champ, as well as Champ’s cultural impact in many of the rural communities that border the lake. Various eyewitnesses of the creature recall their encounters, including Sandra Mansi, who in 1977 took a photo of the creature considered by some to be the best evidence for any lake monster. Katy Elizabeth of Champ Search, as well as Scott Mardis & William Dranginis, comprise of research teams using different methods and state of the art technology to document and prove the existence of monsters in Lake Champlain. Their hunt for the creature takes them from the deep waters of the lake to its winding rivers and primeval swamps and marshlands. While definitive proof of Champ is yet to be claimed, the monster has certainly succeeded in captivating the hearts and minds of many people, whether witnesses, researchers or fascinated locals. These are their stories…on the trail of Champ. This Week's episode is all about telling the truth! Katy Elizabeth and Ellie come up with an elaborate lie to avoid getting in trouble, but they find out that lying only leads to more lying and more trouble. We ask Nerlin the Space Alien, Captain Crazy Two Shoes, and Boltz the Robot to each write a poem about why it's good to tell the truth.  As always, we interview some cute kids about telling the truth and we end the episode with an orignal Sugarcrash Kids song!
