Today, Jim continues to consult with business executives of major companies seeking to improve business performance. What's that shriek in the distance? That rustle in the bushes? Those glowing eyes in the foggy woods? That slimy skin breaking the surface of the sea? It's the fifteenth installment of Do Be A Monster! Albert and Ryan have returned from a week long Monster Road Trip through the states of New England. The boys traversed the northeast and hunted a wide array of freaky monstrosities: Melon Heads in Connecticut, The Great Glawackus, The Winsted Wildman, Mercy Brown the Vampire, Pukwudgies, The Gloucester Sea Serpent, Cassie the Sea Serpent, The Pig Man of Northfield, Champy, and the Headless Horseman. They may not have eaten any healthy food the entire week, but they certainly found ways to blow their wads on postcards and tickets to Satanic and Cryptozoology museums. Plug on in and join the boys as they relive one hell of a monster journey. Next week, Don't Be An Idiom returns!

(Dec 2, 2022) What if the mythical Loch Ness-style sea monster in Lake Champlain, Champy, were real? Two filmmakers from Columbia University set out to build that world in a new short film shot on location in the Champlain Valley. Also: New York's redistricting commission finished its job of redrawing state Assembly lines, with much less drama than its previous work.

I had a wonderful time performing at the Comedy Catch in Chattanooga, Tenessee- one of the longest running family-owned clubs in the county! Chattanooga is known for their fried chicken so Danielle and I went to Champy's Famous Fried Chicken. We had delicious sweet-heat smoked wings but the real star of the meal was their golden friend chicken! Danielle and I talked about the business of comedy, networking and all the great people we meet along the way (stay till the end for a bonus shout-out segment!) She also explains how she and her husband unwittingly became the poster couple for weddings at The Strat in Las Vegas. In this episode of Five Minute Myths, Elena explores the legend of Champy, the mysterious creature of Lake Champlain. What do we know about this creature? Does it really exist? And is it possible that anglers catch it every day?

Here are the first 5 minutes of Bill's interview! Unfortunately, we had some connection issues so we had to cut the recording short, but below is a brief synopsis of what we talked about: What would you tell your 30 year old self teaching tennis? To not stay at the club the whole time- Go and be with your family! Who are your mentors? Branch Curington, Ruth Lay Teaching Pro Mentors: Jerry Baskin ED: John Callen, Henry Talbert from Southern California Peers and Colleagues: Andrea Sanders and Darren Potkey Maria Cercone, Sandy Hastings, Mary Hatfield You have a unique hobby of collecting golf balls- what's the rough estimate of golf balls you've picked up over the years? Conservatively, more than 5k and less than 10k (and sidenote: Bill gives most of them away!) Rapid Fire Questions If you could have a meal with 1-3 people, who would it be: Eric Voges, Mary Hatfield, and Sandy Hastings at Champy's Chicken in Chattanooga. Last night's dinner: The best New York Pizza south of New York at a local place called Napoli's with my wife Bonnie and two good friends from Southern California. One surprising fact about yourself: I've been walking and exercising a lot more and lost 55lbs! What are you reading/watching/or listening to right now? I watched the Superbowl (my kids knew all the words to Snoop Dog, Dr. Dre, Eminem, 50 cent-- who they are now calling $1.50 since he has bulked up a little bit!). We also watched the new Jack Reacher series on Amazon Prime. What's one item on your bucket list? I'd like to drive across the country, to the west coast, taking my time, however long it takes in my Tesla. When are you coming out with your cookbook about the best places to eat in the United States? It's still happening! A lot of my best eating has been at Gas Stations. Today we ate at a place called Weezer's in Gainesville, GA and the food was great there too. Is there anything you'd like to mention/any shout outs? The sport I've been playing the most in the last year and a half is Pickleball and it's going to grow, but The USTA has the greatest delivery system for youth tennis/for any sport- look at the tournament structure, the coaches, the facilities, and everything that is available. There is no other sport that comes close to what tennis does for people (the opportunity, the life skills) and we need to focus on increasing the amount of junior tennis and the support for it! On l'écoute ? Si, par contre vous écoutez cet épisode bien après sa sortie, allez faire un tour là où vous téléchargez vos applications mobiles pour voir où en est Tumult... Leaders model behavior and inspire others to emulate them in their personal lives and on a bigger scale. Just as we have a choice to do the right thing in our personal lives, business leaders have that choice at work. Many strive to be people of good character in all aspects of their lives. But, what does it really mean to be a person of good character? Or, from a business perspective, a company of character? If character is the critical component of ethical leadership, how do we cultivate it in ourselves and in our organizations? In this episode, Gautam Mukunda speaks with the Head of the Department of Behavioral Sciences and Leadership at West Point and Soldier’s Medal recipient, Col. Everett Spain and the legendary former CEO of PepsiCo, Indra Nooyi about how today’s leaders can model courage to do the right thing. “The character of a corporation is not the personality. The character of a corporation is the integrity and morality of the company. How much does the company believe in the betterment of society? How much does the company believe it cannot succeed at the expense of society? That is the true character of a corporation. I don't want us to lose sight of that.” — Indra Nooyi Follow @GMukunda on Twitter Books Referenced: The Arc of Ambition, by James A. A native of Pensacola, Florida, Everett received a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering from West Point, a Master of Business Administration from Duke’s Fuqua School, and a Doctor of Business Administration from Harvard Business School. He actively researches and writes about talent management. Additionally, he serves as a senior advisor to the Army Talent Management Task Force, is the president of the Harvard Veterans Alumni Organization 501(c)(3), and volunteers as a Holocaust Legacy Partner. Everett and his spouse Julia live at West Point and enjoy raising their four children, including a West Point cadet, a college freshman enrolled in Army ROTC, and two high school sophomores. Indra Nooyi is the former Chairman and CEO of PepsiCo (2006-2019); a Fortune 50 company with operations in over 180 countries. In this role, Mrs. Nooyi was the chief architect of Performance with Purpose, PepsiCo’s pledge to do what’s right for the business by being responsive to the needs of the world around us. As part of Performance with Purpose, PepsiCo was focused on delivering sustained growth by making more nutritious products, limiting its environmental footprint and protecting the planet, and empowering its associates and people in the communities it serves. During her tenure, PepsiCo grew net revenue by more than 80%, and PepsiCo’s total shareholder return was 162%. Before joining PepsiCo in 1994 Mrs. Nooyi held senior positions at The Boston Consulting Group, Motorola, and Asea Brown Boveri. runtime: 46 mins / from juniors days to college tennis to the proshey y'all! This was fun! We all met in Mason, Ohio, Alvin drove two and a half hours, I drove up from Lexington an hour and half minutes away, and Champ about thirty minutes. This was Alvin's idea, he wanted to interview Champy and me as former players, and he wanted to ask questions from a coach's point of view. Nicely done, Alvin! we sat there for about two hours in total, then we packed up and headed to a restaurant on Univ. of Cincinnati campus that served some pretty nice Malaysian food! Great day that was! Thanks boys, lets do it again!

We rejoin the episode with Part 2, and it starts with discussing the South East Asian Games (SEA Games) and one of the best Indonesian male players, Benny Widjaya. Enjoy!
runtime: 76 mins / tennis, college, life, Indonesia, food Its epsiode 7 and we are cruising along! Champy was an excellent conversation, I personally got a lot out of it, with his dogged pursuit of playing tennis at the highest levels, and the names he mentioned evoked a lot of nostalgia! Names that were legendary, players I looked up to and to watch them play at the Selangor Club padang on grass against the best in Asia. Champy lives in Northern Cincinnati with a very young and beautiful family, all girls. A devoted father and husband, and he loves tennis! So, we met at a Panera in Newport, KY. Our entire meeting lasted five hours, and the actual recording was 2hr 21m. We just got lost talking about how each of our countries approached tennis. Amazing stuff. What a journey Champy had in his tennis formative years, he competed for respected among the best, his generation was very good indeed, several of the guy's he competed with for spots on National Team squads and very respectable careers on the ATP Tour. But this guy is tough, he held his own. Good for you Champy!
Alexander "Sandy" Treadwell had an illustrious career in New York State as a Republican County activist and close associate and friend of three-term Gov. George Pataki. He also spent six years as the Secretary of State of New York, one of Pataki's key cabinet members. He is also a "Never Trumper" who fears America's authoritarian turn during the past four years. He was born in England, where his father was a general officer in the British Army and where his parents met during World War II. Treadwell is the grandson of a founding executive of General Electric, and a graduate of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He split his time between Manhattan and upstate New York's rural Essex County where his family farmed. After college he went into journalism, figuring if he couldn't become a sports hero like Mickey Mantle, he could write about them. He met his wife while working at Sports Illustrated, covering college football among other sports. Although a Republican, Treadwell was inspired to get into politics by the example of John F. Kennedy and the idealism of civic service. Treadwell is also steady contributor to the New Yorker magazine's cartoon caption contest, which he won several years from amid more than 6,000 selections; he has also been one of three finalists another time, a nearly unprecedented feat. Treadwell, known as an inclusive moderate, made friends across the political aisle as he worked his way through the state party jobs such as county chairman and joined Pataki on the GOP's platform committee. After moving to Ojai 10 years ago, his wife prompted him to find something to do, so at age 70, he took a charcoal drawing class with well-regarded local artist Dan Shultz, where he discovered a previously unknown talent as a portraitist. He has exhibited widely and is available for private commissions at https://www.sandytreadwell.com/ A few other links to learn more about this fascinating Ojai resident ... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_Treadwell https://www.nytimes.com/2001/03/10/nyregion/nice-guy-tough-gop-job-new-state-chairman-takes-challenge-uniting-party-stride.html We did not get around to talking about Chester A. Arthur's correspondence with Julia Sand, the UNC v. Duke rivalry or Lake Champlain's Champy monster.

Maison Champy began in 1720 and has the honourable distinction of being the oldest wine company in Burgundy. Extraordinary. Brilliance, of course, needs quite a lot more than venerability! Three centuries might simply imply dusty cellars. Not so with Maison Champy who in 1866 helped Louis Pasteur develop his, 'Etudes sur le Vin: Diseases, Causes, New Process to Keep and Age Wine'. Then in 1890 (celebrating 170 years young) Maison Champy built a new winery in Beaune using Eiffel's (he of the Tower) architecture. By 1912 87% of the vineyards owned by Champy were of Cru appellation. Today Maison Champy has a new boutique and tasting rooms in the heart of Beaune opposite the Hospices de Beaune and has developed a new logo and design for its branded wines. Nothing dusty here! In this podcast Technical Director and Oenologist for the past 20 years at Maison Champy, Dimitri Bazas, brings us up to speed with the vineyards and wines of of this amazing house. The wines of Maison Champy are distributed by Classic Drinks. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- While all restaurants in Ireland were closed until recently many have now reopened. This is great news - Open Again! We should remember that many of these, including the wonderful Monty's of Kathmandu, are family businesses. They are often small and brilliant and need our support more than ever. Keep Safe and Keep well. Kevin Ecock's WinePod is brought to us with the assistance of the Santa Rita Wine Room at Monty's of Kathmandu - an excellent place to host your next event or celebration. (Jun 20, 2019) Dr. Curt Stager went to a conference in Scotland in where one of the topics was the possibility of lake monsters such as the famous denizen of Loch Ness, or Lake Champlain's Champy. Could the commonly reportedly long-necked monsters be plesiosaurs, left over from the Jurassic era? Probably not.

The Iliamna Lake Monster Also dubbed as "Illie" by the locals, the Iliamna Lake Monster is a cryptid that haunts a small southwester Alaskan fishing village. Stories of Illie date back to the natives living near the lake. The Tlingit People refer to a large creature called the "Gonakadet" (onakadet) whose head and tail were like that of a wolf but the body was of an orca. Another group, the Aleut People, also share stories of a monster fish called the "Jig-ik-nak." These monster fish travelled in groups and attacked warriors in their canoes. 4. The Thunderbird One of the most enduring cryptids in America, the Thunderbird refers to the cryptozoological bird-like creatures known for their massive size. They're reported to have lived in North America, Alaska and Central America and In Native American Mythologies, a similar type of bird is often discussed. Usually, these are large eagles that are strong and big enough to carry even whales to their nests. Even as pioneers began migrating to the west, the settlers along the way gave reports of seeing extremely large birds. 2. Loveland Frog Few people, even from cryptid circles have ever even heard of the Ohio based creature known as the Loveland Frog. But if the sightings and reports are to be believed, it could be every bit as real and perplexing as the many other popular cryptids out there. The Loveland Frog is described as similar to a regular frog except that it’s Much bigger, roughly the size of smaller grown man and it can walk upright. Legends about it have been around since before Loveland, Ohio even existed. 1. Champy of Lake Champlain We all know about Nessie but have you heard about Champy?
