Simon and Mackelly throw some rice in celebration of the new couple.Chapter Review:Lord Commander Jon Snow waits with Alys Karstark as Melisandre prays to R'hllor. Jon notices that his top ranking brothers are not in attendance. Eventually, Melisandre asks who is to be wed. Jon escorts Alys to her groom Sigorn, the Magnar of Thenn. The pair say their vows, jump a ditch of fire, and it's done. As the guests make for the feast, Jon talks to Melisandre. She tells him she still sees danger in his future. Jon is skeptical. Cregan says she was promised to him by his lord father. Jon reminds him his father Arnolf is only the castellan of Karhold. Cregan tells Jon to kill him and be labeled a kinslayer. Jon suggests Cregan Take the Black before King Stannis arrives and executes him as a traitor. Never, is Cregan's response. At the feast, Jon tells Alys to send her old men and boys to the Night's Watch rather than let them die when winter comes. She promises that House Karstark remembers. A letter arrives from Eastwatch, the ships have finally set sail for Hardhome and the stranded wildlings. After Alys drags her new husband onto the dance floor, Axell Florent takes her seat and again asks Jon about Val's whereabouts. He wants to wed the wildling princess. Send us a textAsha Greyjoy bent the knee to King Stannis. She's been rewarded with shackles but is also treated as the king's prize in his army's ill-fated march on Winterfell. Simon and Mackelly hope she's packed her thermals.Chapter Review:Stannis Baratheon's army winds out of Deepwood Motte. Among the baggage rolls Asha Greyjoy, fettered and guarded by Alysane “She-Bear” Mormont. Asha is Stannis's living trophy for the lords of the north. The king plans to march 100 leagues through the forest in 15 days to Winterfell. A feat many of his followers claim his brother Robert would have done in 10 days. But this king is not his brother.Asha watches Stannis's grim procession with a broken ankle and a sharper mind. She recalls kneeling before him to save the last nine of her men and finds no mercy in the king, only duty. The southrons doubted the march but the northmen insisted.Snow begins on the fourth day and never stops. Wagons vanish through ice, men freeze or simply sit down to die. The queen's men call for a sacrifice to please their red god. “Pray harder,” Stannis tells them. Each night brings a smaller campfire and a growing list of losses. By day 20, Asha's cart horse dies. Her shackles come off, but she must walk. The food's gone, the grain's gone, and hope is dwindling. Only the northmen seem unaffected by "autumn's kiss."At last they find a crofter's village. An opportunity to fish the frozen lake and huddle in the storm. Come morning, there are no trumpets, no warhorns, only white silence. Stannis's army is snowbound, starving, and still a hundred miles from Winterfell. Characters/Places/Names/Events:Asha Greyjoy - princess of the Iron Islands.Stannis Baratheon - Claimant to the Iron Throne, as Cersei's children aren't Robert's.Justin Massey - Knight of the Crownlands.Dagmar Cleftjaw - Ironborn Captain, currently holding Torren's Square.Deepwood Motte - Fortified town in the north-west of the North. Send us a textDavos meets with Lord Wyman in front of a packed court. The Freys blame a most unlikely culprit for the Red Wedding. Davos' arguments for the Manderlys backing King Stannis fall on deaf ears, minus one. Ultimately, Lord Wyman makes his final decision; off with his head (and hands). Mackelly and Simon light a candle to the Father.Chapter Review:Davos Seaworth is brought before the Merman's Court. He'd hoped for a private audience with Lord Wyman Manderly, but the hall is packed with a host of people and a mischief of Freys. Davos makes his pitch for why the Manderlys should side with Stannis, but it doesn't go well. Wyllis Manderly (the heir) is a captive of the Lannisters and the family don't want to risk his life. The Freys spin an incredible yarn of their version of the Red Wedding: Robb Stark and his men turned into wolves and attacked everyone. Wendel Manderly died defending the Lord Walder Frey. Davos would use an exploding head emoji. Only Wyllis' daughter Wylla sides with Davos: they killed the Starks, they killed my uncle, how could we side with them?Rhaegar Frey argues that Robb abandoned the North, then abandoned the Riverlands. Lord Wyman agrees but not before a flash of disgust registers on his face. The king offers Jon a surprising gift, then adds to the shock by revealing his risky plan to win the north. Jon redirects him to a new plan that is safer and has huge upsides. Mackelly and Simon fear that Stannis is not earning their loyalty.Chapter Review:Jon Snow joins Bowen Marsh to inspect winter food stores held beneath Castle Black. Despite past generosity from lords and a long summer, feeding Stannis' army and wildlings has depleted supplies. Marsh proposes winter rations early. Jon agrees, knowing it'll cause unrest.Jon later meets Stannis, Melisandre, and others in the king's solar. Stannis gifts Jon a controlled Rattleshirt as a soldier. Discussion turns to Mors Umber's terms for support. Stannis hesitates, but Jon urges acceptance, warning that rejecting Mors' terms would turn the North against him. Stannis reveals plans to take the Dreadfort, but Jon argues the Boltons will return too soon and crush Stannis' force. Pressed to arm wildlings, Jon reluctantly offers basic gear, wary of violating the Night's Watch vows. Privately, Stannis tempts Jon again with legitimization and Winterfell. Mackelly and Simon give him a pep talk.Chapter Review:Davos Seaworth arrives in White Harbor aboard the Merry Midwife. He's disguised as a common sailor. He notes signs of increased defense and military buildup. This could be good news, but then he sees the Lionstar at the dock, flying Tommen's colors. Inside the city, he sees many refugees who've fled down the White Knife to avoid Ramsay Bolton's tyranny. An apple seller tells him that the young men who arrive are being drafted into Lord Manderly's army. In a seedy winesink, Davos listens for gossip. It's mostly old news but he learns that Wyman Manderly's son is held by the Lannisters. Davos knows that he should have gone south with Salladhor Saan. Jon is summoned by King Stannis. The king offers Jon his dream come true; the title of Lord Stark of Winterfell. Stannis also plans to let the wildlings through the Wall, if they bend the knee. Jon agrees with the wildling plan but needs time to think about being legitimized and made lord of Winterfell. Simon and Mackelly consider shopping for castle-warming gifts.Chapter Review:Jon Snow spars in the yard of Castle Black with Satin. Melisandre interrupts; King Stannis wants a word with Jon. Stannis tells Jon he's heard much about him. Jon confirms some facts and dispels some rumors. The bottom line is that he never turned his cloak. The king believes him. Stannis knows Janos Slynt and knew Ned Stark. Stannis reveals that he plans to let the wildlings through the Wall, as long as they bend the knee and take R'hllor as their true god. The king explains that he's here to fight the true enemy: the Great Other. They will need the wildling's help in that fight.Stannis then tells Jon the primary reason he sent for him. The king doesn't need another sword in the Night's Watch. He needs the North. There's no better way to rally the North than through a son of Eddard Stark. He plans to legitimize Jon, making him Jon Stark the Lord of Winterfell. It was a dream of Jon's when he was young, but he never wanted harm to come to his siblings. However, he's likely the last of them alive. But there's another issue: he's taken The Black. Melisandre says his vow is meaningless, since it wasn't said to R'hellor. The final detail of the plan is that Stannis wants to marry Jon to the wildling Val. Jon asks for time to consider the offer.Characters/Places/Names/Events:Jon Snow - Bastard son of Ned Stark. Davos, with the aid of several co-conspirators, returns to his smuggling ways. When he comes clean to King Stannis and Melisandre they are really angry. Stannis prepares to take more than just a few fingers from Davos. However, Davos has what he hopes is an ace up his sleeve. Mackelly and Simon sure hope Davos knows what he's doing.Chapter Review:Davos Seaworth, and several trustworthy king's men, enter Maester Pylos' chambers. They ask for Edric Storm, and the maester tells Edric to listen to the King's Hand. The men take Edric to a boat. The boy tries to be brave but it becomes clear he's nervous and uncertain. Davos confirms Melisandre's story. He's been told that Joffrey died during his wedding feast. With that, Melisandre feels the case has been proven for her work with Edric's blood and asks for the rest of the boy to wake the stone dragons and win Stannis his throne.Davos explains why that's not possible. Stannis is extremely disappointed with his Hand. Davos explains that, as Hand, it is his job to help the king protect his people. Edric is one of the king's people. With the boy's king's blood, a stone dragon will come to life and aid Stannis in claiming the realm.Stannis is reluctant to give up the boy. He is the king's own blood. Davos speaks the truth to king Stannis and is rewarded with his freedom and a promotion. Melisandre uses the blood (not all of it, thankfully) of Edric Storm to curse the false kings: Joffrey Baratheon, Balong Greyjoy, and Robb Stark. Mackelly and Simon hope that Robb's string of bad luck is behind him.Chapter Review:Davos Seaworth is brought from the dungeons of Dragonstone by Axel Florent, the brother of his cellmate Alester. Florent shares that he has seen Stannis on the throne in the flames. But a precondition was that he, Axel, become Stannis' Hand of the King. If Davos supports Florent good things will follow, but woe betide Seaworth should he fail to.Stannis asks Davos what he thinks of Floernt's plan to invade Claw Isle as punishment for Lord Celtigar's decision to bend the knee to Joffrey. Davos, Stannis' spirit animal, cannot help himself and dismisses the plan as pointless and unfair. The men of Claw Isle fought and died for Stannis on the Blackwater, while victory would be assured, those people deserve better of their king. Stannis agrees, dismisses Florent and makes Davos his Hand of the King.Enter Melisandre with a plate of swollen leeches. The blood comes from Edric Storm, Robert's bastard son, who is already much beloved within Dragonstone. The three leeches go in the flames each with a curse for Joffrey Baratheon, Balon Greyjoy, and Robb Stark.Characters/Places/Names/Events:Davos Seaworth - The Onion Knight. Davos is imprisoned in the Dragonstone dungeon. He receives a visit from Melisandre, where he learns that she had no role in the disaster on the Blackwater, as well as learns that she believes Stannis is Azor Ahai reborn. Next he welcomes a new cellmate, in the form of Hand of the King Lord Alester Florent. Mackelly and Simon bake some cookies for the newbie on the block.Chapter Review:Davos Seaworth finds himself in the dungeon of Dragonstone. It's dark and dank but at least it's warm. His illness from his time on the little island in Blackwater Bay has gotten worse. However, just when Davos thinks he'll soon die, Maester Pylos nurses him back to health.Melisandre pays him a visit. The Red Woman tells Davos that there is a war that has raged on since the dawn of time. A war between R'hllor and The Great Other. She also divulges that Stannis Baratheon is the Chosen One of R'hllor. He is Azor Ahai reborn. She saw it in her flames. Davos asks why she didn't save them from the flames on the Blackwater, if she can see the future? She explains that Stannis' faith was weak, and he left her at home. If she'd been there the outcome of the battle would've been different. Three days later, Davos gets a new cellmate. It's Stannis' Hand of the King Alester Florent. He's here for the crime of trying to broker a peace deal with the Lannisters, without the knowledge of King Stannis. His plan was for Stannis to recant his claims of Lannister incest and bend the knee to Joffery Baratheon. In response, the Lannisters will name Stannis lord of Dragonstone and Storm's End. To seal the deal, Shireen Baratheon and Tommen Lannister will marry. Davos can see the flaw in this plan. Davos gets back to Dragonstone where Salladhor Saan tries to dissuade him from attempting to murder Melisandre. Davos is determined, but is arrested before he even gets close. Simon and Mackelly apply the aloe.Chapter Review:Davos Seaworth returns to a much changed Dragonstone. The harbor is only sparsely populated with Lysene ships and there are very few people around. He meets with old friend Salladhor Saan, who fills him in on the news. King Stannis and Melisandre spend all their time together staring into the flames of the volcano. Queen Selyse and her uncle Alester have taken over the day-to-day running of the diminished kingdom. Their zeal for the religion of R'Hellor has now seen them burning alive those who don't follow it, or them.Saan confirms that Davos' son Devan was saved and is in Dragonstone. The Lyseni suggests that Davos return to the seas. He has a ship he could captain, and the new laws allow for them to intercept, board, and pillage almost any ships in the bay. It'll be fun. Like old times. Maybe go visit Mrs. Seaworth at Cape Wrath? Davos is having none of it. He was saved from death by the Mother. And the Mother has only one mission for him: kill the red priestess who brought down all this misfortune upon them.He goes to the castle, where he is happy to see Shireen, puzzled by Patchface's prophetic babbling, and meets Edric Storm, Robert's bastard son, who proves to be a decent lad. Before Davos can get any further, Axell Florent and armed guards arrest him and send him to the dungeons for attempting to assassinate "their lady." Characters/Places/Names/Events:Davos Seaworth - Onion Knight. He's eked out an existence for a couple of weeks, but his fresh water is gone, and he's delerious. He recalls the battle and the almost certain death of four of his sons, and wonders if he should just let the sea take him.A ship appears heading in his direction. He's not sure if he wants saving, but he prays to the mother and she appears to remind him that he took part in the burning of her effigy on Dragonstone. Davos is pretty sorry for all that he has done. But his ruminations give him a new determination to survive. He waves his hands and the ship sends a boat to rescue him.Davos recognizes the markings as Lyseni, so he expects that they fought for Stannis, but it is a heart-in-mouth moment admitting his loyalty. Davos sails into Blackwater Bay with Stannis' giant fleet. He has some misgivings, but initially the battle goes to plan. However, a series of barges full of wildfire sail into the fleet and all is lost. Davos is thrown overboard but is being drawn into the burning mess that is gathering on Tyrion's great chain. Simon and Mackelly pick through the flotsam.Chapter Review:Davos Seaworth stands on the deck of the Black Betha, in the second row of King Stannis Baratheon's fleet. The enormous fleet is made up of 10 rows of 20 ships, not including the ships of Salladhor Saan's Lysene fleet that will stay out in the Blackwater Bay as the rear guard.Ser Imry Florent, brother to Stannis's wife Selyse, has been named Lord High Captain of the fleet. He plans to use the fleet's superior numbers to overwhelm the much smaller royal fleet. Once they've been dispatched, the ships will both land troops on the northern bank of the Blackwater Rush and ferry Stannis and his army across from the southern bank. Ser Davos has reservations about the plan, most notably the decision to take all 200 ships into the river at once. When the two sides meet, the fighting is fierce. However, it's clear that the numbers of Stannis' fleet will carry the day for them. Everything changes when boats ladened with wildfire are drifted into the fleet. As they are rammed or catch fire, the explosions are immense. When the first boat explodes, Davos is thrown from his ship. As he treads water, he sees many other ships engulfed in green flames. Davos figures he'll let the river current take him out to the bay to meet up with Saan's fleet for rescue. But as he looks down-river, he sees that a thick boom chain has been raised across the mouth of the river, trapping them all. The current is taking him right for it and the burning husks that have been trapped against it.Characters/Places/Names/Events:Ser Davos Seaworth - The Onion Knight. Davos has rejoined his king, but admires the implacable Cortnay Penrose a lot more than Stannis' new supporters. Davos smuggles Melisandre beneath the walls of Storm's End where she gives birth to a shadow in Stannis' form. Simon and Mackelly pick over the afterbirth. Chapter Review: Ser Cortnay parlays with Stannis and supporters beneath the walls of Storm's End. He refuses to yield the castle while one of the conditions is handing over Edric Storm. Stannis' new bannermen try to reassure Penrose, but the old knight throws scorn on their trustworthiness. Ser Cortnay offers single combat to settle matters without a siege, but Stannis demurs. Davos rides back with Stannis who confides that forgiving the lords that followed Renly sticks in his craw. Davos advises the king to forget Storm's End and focus on King's Landing. But Stannis is confident that Ser Cortnay dies tonight and the castle, and his bastard nephew, will be his. To that end, Davos recreates his fabled onion-run when he saved Stannis and the denizens of Storm's End from salvation. This time, he brings not food, but Melisandre. She may also cause tears. En route, they discuss good and evil and the grey areas in between. When they arrive beneath the walls, the way is blocked by a portcullis, but they're close enough. Meslisandre reveals that she is very pregnant and immediately gives birth to a shadow the size and shape of Stannis Baratheon. Davos wonders what he's done. Cat prays for a quick and bloodless end to the war between the Baratheon brothers. She needs to be careful what she prays for because she gets mostly that. Renly is mysteriously killed by what appears to be a shadow assassin. But poor, innocent Brienne takes the blame. Simon and Mackelly examine the details of the wild night.Chapter Review: Catelyn Stark prays in a tiny sept to any of The Seven who will heed her pleas. She prays for safety and strength for her family and herself. She also prays to the Mother to watch over the men who will fight in the up-coming battle between Stannis Baratheon's meager forces and his brother Renly Baratheon's much larger army. While ruminating in the sept, Cat realizes that if Stannis' claim of incest between Queen Cersei Lannister and her brother Jamie Lannister are true, it gives possible validation to her belief that a Lannister sent the man to kill Bran. The boy must have seen them at their incest. Later, in Renly's tent, she proposes to Renly that they bring Bran forward to tell the realm what he saw. After the Lannisters have been discredited, a great council can be held to determine who should sit the Iron Throne. She asks that the battle be put on hold until she can similarly propose the plan to Stannis. Renly rejects the idea. Moments later, Renly's shadow raises its sword and plunges its shadow sword through Renly's neck. As the blood pours from him, the dying Renly falls into the arms of Brienne, who had been dressing him for battle. The commotion draws the attention of the guards. They rush in and see Brienne holding the dead king. Assuming she killed Renly, they attack. Cat convinces Robar Royce of Brienne's innocence, and he helps the women flee. Cat tries to keep the peace between Renly and Stannis Baratheon. Neither is willing to budge an inch, so Cat and the rest prepare for war. Simon and Mackelly predict the likely outcome. Chapter Review: Catelyn Stark is first to reach the hill where the two sides will parley. She cannot see the sea, but can smell it in the air. In the distance, the giant fortress of Storm's End looms with Stannis Baratheon's small army arrayed before it. The siege looks entirely pointless. Stannis arrives and exhibits the coldness he's famous for when expressing his sorrow about Ned's death. He's not there to make friends (king's don't have friends, only subjects and enemies), and reminds Cat that Robb will be next once he's dealt with Renly and Joffrey. Renly arrives and the brothers exchange unpleasantries. Each offers the other the lordship of Storm's End if he'll support the other's claim to the throne. Neither will. So the talks come to nothing. As she leaves Melisandre warns Renly to look to his sins. War is inevitable and Cat wants no part in it, but Renly refuses her request to leave. He wants her to witness his army's power and his ruthlessness in putting down dissent (even from his own kin) so that Robb will hear of it. She goes to a nearby sept to pray. Characters/Places/Names/Events: Catelyn Stark - Lady of Winterfell. Widow of Lord Eddard Stark and daughter of Hoster Tully, the Lord Paramount of the Riverlands. Stannis Baratheon - Elder brother of Renly Baratheon, rightful heir to the Iron Throne. Renly Baratheon - Robert and Stannis' youngest brother. Lord of Storm's End. Husband to Margaery Tyrell. Claimant to the Iron Throne. Margaery Tyrell - Daughter of Mace Tyrell, Lord Paramount of the Reach. Sister to Ser Loras Tyrell. Wife to King Renly Baratheon. She is reputed to resemble Lyanna Stark. Ser Loras Tyrell - Knight of Flowers. Youngest son of Mace Tyrell. Dashing and renowned swordsman. Brienne of Tarth - Tall and homely daughter of Lord Selwyn Tarth the Evenstar. She is an expert sword fighter. Member of King Renly's Rainbow Guard. Randyll Tarly - Lord of Horn Hill. Father of Samwell Tarly. Melisandre - A priestess of the red god R'hellor and trusted advisor to King Stannis. On Dragonstone, Davos watches Melisandre burn the gods of The Seven. He has a drink with pirate Salladhor Saan. He meets with King Stannis and is commissioned to go spread the word of Stannis' rightful claim to the people of Westeros. Simon and Mackelly consider converting.  Chapter Review: Melisandre reveals the prophecy of Azor Ahai and his flaming sword Lighhtbringer, from the time of heroes. She tells that Stannis is the embodiment of the fabled hero and he withdraws a flaming sword from the burning effigies of the seven false gods of Westeros. Davos is impressed by Melisandre's powers, but concerned by Stannis' willingness to alienate what few allies they have.  Davos has a pint with Salladhor Saan, a Lysene pirate. He brings news of the wars on the mainland and demands that they attack King's Landing while it is vulnerable. Saan also has a very negative view of the whole Azor Ahai thing - he, Azor Ahai, murdered his wife to make his sword, not exactly an inspiring antecedent for Stannis to emulate.  Davos meets with Stannis. The king wants his smuggler to sail to every port in Westeros with news of Joffrey's parentage and Stannis' rightful claim. Davos doubts that they have the proof, but Stannis reminds him of Edric Storm - Robert's recognized bastard son at Storm's End. Stannis bemoans that he is in the right, but has the least gold and men of the various claimants. He notes that his only assets are his navy and Melisandre.  Characters/Places/Names/Events: Stannis Baratheon - (Arguably) The rightful King of the Seven Kingdoms. Elder brother of Renly Baratheon. Husband to Selyse. Father of Shireen.  Melisandre - The Red Woman of Ashaii. Priestess of R'Hellor, the Lord of Light. Advisor to King Stannis.  Selyse (Florent) Baratheon - Wife of Stannis Baratheon, (arguably) rightful Queen of the Seven Kingdoms. Mother of Shireen.  Ser Davos Seaworth - The Onion Knight. Advisor to King Stannis Baratheon.  Maester Pylos - Young maester, sent to Dargonstone to replace the frail Maester Cresson. Maester Cresson - 80 year-old maester of Dragonstone. Long-time servant of the Baratheon family.  Robb Stark - Eldest son of Eddard (Ned) and Catelyn (Cat) Stark. Crowned King in the North after his victory at Riverrun.  Eddard "Ned" Stark - Erstwhile hand of the King, Lord of Winterfell, and deceased King Robert's closest friend. Beheaded for treason by order of King Joffrey Baratheon.  Renly Baratheon - Robert and Stannis' youngest brother. Lord of Storm's End. Husband to Margery Tyrell. Claimant to the Iron Throne.  Joffrey Baratheon - King of the Seven Kingdoms, as son of the former King Robert. Known to be the bastard son of his mother Cersei and her twin Jamie Lannister.  Salladhor Saan - Pirate prince of the Narrow Sea. Former accomplice of Davos Seaworth's smuggling. Now recruited to King Stannis' cause.  Check out our merchandise store:  https://ghostsofharrenhal.threadless.com/If you like what we're doing, please consider rating and reviewing us at Apple Podcasts, podchaser.com, and anywhere else you can leave a rate and review.  We'd love to hear from you. On Dragonstone, King Stannis Baratheon's entourage debate how to actualize his claim. Stannis' unforgiving nature makes allies hard to come by. There's some infighting, culminating in an attempted poisoning that backfires. Simon and Mackelly take a careful sip. Chapter Review: Maester Cresson ruminates on various omens and portents: a white raven signifying the end of summer, the red comet, the growing influence on Dragonstone of Melisandre the Red Priestess of R'hllor, his aching old bones, and so on. He has a friendly chat with Stannis' daughter princess Shireen and her creepy fool Patchface. He meets with Stannis but every idea for bolstering their numbers or courting allies is rebuffed by the king. The only concession seems to be the idea of marrying Shireen to Lord Robert Arryn of the Vale. Stannis' grievances now include his own younger brother Renly claiming the throne, Robb Stark styling himself as King in the North, his dead brother Robert for favoring Ned Stark over him, and so on. Stannis' open mindedness is not helped by Melisandre, who claims to have seen his ascension to the throne in the flames. Stannis feels his future is set, he need not compromise. Cresson decides to do away with Melisandre. As a peace offering, he offers her a goblet of poisoned wine. She is suspicious but drinks most of it down, Cresson swallows the rest. As he chokes and dies, she informs him that her Lord of Light really does have power, as she is unaffected by the toxin. Characters/Places/Names/Events: Stannis Baratheon - (Arguably) The rightful King of the 7 kingdoms. Elder brother of Renly Baratheon. Husband to Selyse. Father of Shireen. Melisandre - The Red Woman of Ashaii. Priestess of R'Hellor, the Lord of Light. Advisor to King Stannis. Selyse (Florent) Baratheon - Wife of Stannis Baratheon, (arguably) rightful Queen of the 7 Kingdoms. Mother of Shireen. Shireen Baratheon - 9 y/o daughter of Stannis and Selyse Baratheon. Suffers from greyscale on the face and neck. Ser Davos Seaworth - The Onion Knight. Advisor to King Stannis Baratheon. Maester Pylos - Young maester, sent to Dargonstone to replace the frail maester Cresson. Maester Cresson - 80-year-old maester of Dragonstone. Long-time servant of the Baratheon family. Patchface - Fool and friend to Shireen Baratheon. Reputed to have skills as an entertainer, but lost his wits in a near-drowning. Renly Baratheon - Robert and Stannis' youngest brother. Lord of Storm's End. Claimant to the Iron Throne. Ardrian Celtigar - Head of house Celtigar. Vassal of Stannis Baratheon. Monford Velaryon - Head of house Velaryon. Vassal of Stannis Baratheon. Axell Florent - Uncle to Selyse Baratheon. Castellan of Dragonstone. The King is dead. Long live King Joffrey? King Stannis? King Renly? Whoever! Ned and Cersei confront in the throne room. Ned is sure he has the manpower advantage to win the day, but then Petyr Baelish delivers a lasting lesson in the school of "Don't trust anyone." Mackelly and Simon take sides.Chapter Review: Eddard Stark is awoken to a Lannister show of strength outside his window, and the day only goes downhill from there. At breakfast, he allows Arya to have one last "dance lesson" but refuses Sansa a final goodbye with prince Joffrey, before the girls board the ship headed for Winterfell. The news causes an outraged Sansa to storm off.The day's downward spiral continues when Grand Maester Pycelle arrives and announces that King Robert has died. A heavy-hearted Ned convenes the small council (apart from Renly, who having carefully weighed up the situation has scarpered from King's Landing) and has Barristan Selmy break the seal on Robert's will. As we know, Ned is supposed to act as Protector of the Realm until Robert's heir comes of age. Before Ned can obtain oaths of allegiance, the council is summoned to the presence of the new king. Ned's helped to the throne room by Littlefinger who assures him that the gold cloaks are on the payroll. Joffrey demands a rapid coronation. Cersei tears up Robert's will and demands that Ned bend the knee. Instead, he reveals that Cersei's children are not Robert's and that the gold cloaks should escort the royal family to their rooms. The city guard do exactly what they've been paid to do, and kill all of Ned's men. Ned himself is taken into custody by Littlefinger himself. Characters/Places/Names/Events: Eddard "Ned" Stark - Hand of the King, Lord of Winterfell, and king Robert's closest friend. King Robert Baratheon - King of the Andals, the Rhoynar, and the First Men. Aside from being king, he's also Ned's lifelong best friend. Oh and now he's dead.  Renly Baratheon - King Robert's youngest brother. Lord of Storm's End and Master of Laws. Petyr "Littlefinger" Baelish - Master of Coin, member of the Small Council, and childhood friend to Catelyn Tully.  Lord Varys - The Spider. Eunuch and Master of Whispers. Support the podcast. Welcome the newest episode of Dark Discussions, your place for the discussion of horror film, fiction, and all that’s fantastic. It's now one of the most highly anticipated shows on television. HBO's series, Game of Thrones, based off the book series, The Song of Ice and Fire, by George R.R. Martin, has become a smash hit. Its an odd take of a fantasy world where magic, monsters, and myth are nothing more than a backdrop to various families fighting for power to become the ruler of the seven kingdoms. With a large budget and fantastic acting from mostly a group of unknowns and character actors, the series is now about to enter its fourth season starting in April, 2014. Season 3 follows the ensemble cast on their many different and divergent journeys. King Stannis has returned to Dragonstone after his defeat at Blackwater. Can he regroup in time to hold onto power? Daenerys has headed to the slave islands looking for an army that she can use to head back to Westeros. Theon Greyjoy was last seen being taken away as a prisoner. The Lannisters and Tyrells have an unsteady alliance. The "King of the North", Rob Stark, tries to regroup after his own army dwindles. Other characters like Samwell Tarly come to the forefront and begin to play an important role in the series. Dark Discussions talks about all these things. Ponderings include the army of the unsullied, the brotherhood without banners, the red wedding, obsidian and the white walkers, Melisandre and the red god, the revolt of the black watch, the political intrigue of the Tyrells, and John Snow's allegiance. Though this is volume 2 of our Game of Throne's retrospective, the talk focuses mostly on Season 3. As always we welcome your comments: darkdiscussions@aol.com (written email or attached mp3 files) WWW.DARKDISCUSSIONS.COM
